I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review
The 30% that tried to be about plot and intrigue was tedious, but the other 70% that was just straight up nasty was amazing. Lots of fun
Even though Spring is supposed to be coming soon this is the perfect book to curl up with to help thaw out the last of winter! A perfect, romance and sexy book to read and wish away the winter!
This is one sexy historical romance. I mean we start with a passionate night, that ends in a surprising revelation for our heroine. The plot is hilarious at times in a way that only a historical romance could be. I think the improper wife part makes it feel more modern, but with historical elements. I enjoyed Caroline's strong spirit, and how she just went after what she wanted, yet she has very realistic insecurities. Taran is all over the place, but I really grew to liked him as the story went on. Overall, it's a fun jaunt with secrets, villains, and sexy, sexy times.
Thanks to Backlit PR and NetGalley for the eBook in exchange for an honest review!
Not one for historical romance, but this was a good quick read and the characters were good, wanted a little bit more info on him. That was probably the only thing I didn't like.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance read, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Aphrodite is no lady. Betrothal to the callous Lord Blackhall painted a future devoid of love. Upon his death, Lady Caroline Wilmont is promised to the younger brother. When I started reading I couldn't put it down.KyAnn Waters and Tarah Scott are magnifysent and amazing writers.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can't wait for the next book.
This was a light, fun read. Very steamy, even though the author used some of my least favorite euphemisms for sexy things. The resolution of the big misunderstanding was anticlimactic, and I wish there had been more character development. I liked the hero, but I really wanted to know more about him. I also liked that the focus was really on the couple, although there was a side story. It just wasn't very fleshed out, which might annoy some people. I give it 3.5 stars but rounded down to a 3 for excessive use of the word "cream".
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I received a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The highlander's improper wife was a lot of fun to read. I did not want to put it down. Caroline has no choice but to marry the brother of the man she was bethroed to who died because her uncle has ordered her to do so. Tara must marry the heiress to help his people. I like both characters and the relationship progression.
Thankfully, the mystery doesn't come to a head like it does in other books- when Taran finds out that his dalliance was with his wife, they don't break up or have a giant fight, and that was refreshing to see. Although, I don't think that people used a lot of the same terms in the 1800s as the author wrote.
Very erotic and hot romance that will satisfy anyone wanting something a bit more than your standard Regency romance. Characters were developed quickly and had more depth than normal romance novels. I also appreciated the writers did not go overboard on the main character's Scottish accent, which often takes away from the storyline. Recommend to readers of romance who want a short, quick, but very sexy read.
I just finished reading this book and....hold on, I need to take another cold shower. Ok, this story was HOT, HOT, HOT!!!! I absolutely adored the hero and heroine, Caroline and Taran. They have so much chemistry, it leaps from the pages and I really did love everything about the story. Not one boring page at all throughout the book, it's steamy scenes and action all the way through. Very well written and I look forward to reading many more Tarah Scott books!!
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I enjoyed reading this book. There is plenty of erotic pleasure in this story. It would have been an even better book if there had been more information about the deception, murder and the cover up. I felt bad for the heroine because she was being married off by her uncle for a reason, I still am not sure why. The main storyline is about a woman seeking a rare evening of pleasure before a loveless and heartless marriage. Come to find out the evening of passion was spent with her betrothed. Now the subplot is a little murky. From what I can tell the uncle is guilty of some serious crimes and has done some horribly drastic things to cover it up. What I don't get is how does the heroine fit into the uncle's plan or not fit. There is room for improvement in this story but I did like the romance plot. I would definitely read another book by these authors.
Caroline Wilmont wants to spend her last night as an unmarried lady doing something fun. That is how she finds herself dressed as Aphrodite and attending a scandalous Masque. Determined to have a good time, Caroline selects a partner for the evening. She just wants to experience a little passion before she marries a man who couldn't even be bothered to get to know her before their wedding. When she learns her passionate encounter is with her own betrothed, Caroline is shocked.
Lord Blackhall, Taran Robertson, cannot forget the beauty he met at the Masque. Unfortunately, he has a wedding to attend before he can begin his search for her. Taran's new wife is not at all what he expected. She delights him in many ways, but he cannot help but long for his Aphrodite. Imagine Taran' delight when he discovers his very own bride is the woman he's been searching for. What will happen when the truth comes out?
Although, THE HIGHLANDER'S IMPROPER WIFE is a very enjoyable read, it lacked a little storyline for me. I would have liked to see a little more background on the characters, especially Taran. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I felt the plot was overshadowed by the frequent sex scenes. I felt the book concluded a little abruptly with what all was going on at the end. I give THE HIGHLANDER'S IMPROPER WIFE a 3.5 star rating if for no other reason than the chemistry was palpable between Taran and Caroline.
What The Highlanders Improper Wife lacks in plot and character development more than makes up for in the verra hawt sex, sex, and did I mention, SEX? So if you are looking for an erotica read set to the background of a regency masque where the theme is “Let’s get it on” and a HEA between a reluctant bride and groom that have a lust to love relationship, then this is the story for you.
Caroline, who was to marry Taran’s brother John before his untimely death, is now betrothed to the brother Taran in a deal handled by Taran’s father and Caroline’s uncle. By marrying his niece to a Lord, her uncle would achieve the status he has always wanted. There is a lot going on in this story, a masked ball, her father’s murder, his sister eloping, threats of two duels and the attempt to kill Taran. There is a HEA but a lot happens first which adds to all the action in the book. I would highly recommend this book as a great read.
What an interesting and engaging story about marriage and familial relationships.
The author has interwoven a tale consisting of proper and improper marital experiences. We see how most often people were stuck in and tried to make the best of loveless marriages. But our characters, one Scottish and the other English (or Sassenach), have found for themselves something unique and different. A chance to have a sensual, steamy sex life within the marriage. That is if they decide to settle down and realize what’s right under their noses.
This was a yummy read with all of the heat and saltiness you would expect from a Scottish medieval lovely. It did not disappoint.
Lacy Caroline was to be married to a man she didn’t know so she decides to go to a masque and experience lust. She meets Taran and sparks fly. Fast-paced read with lots of drama and great chemistry. I really liked it.
The Highlander's Improper Wife is a fun read if you like hot, Scottish romances. Caroline was being forced into a marriage with the brother of her dead fiance, who was a lout. Not expecting much from his brother, she decided to have a pre-wedding fling at a masked ball, not realizing that her suitor was her intended. Once her new husband realizes that his wife was the wanton woman of his dreams, rather than tell her he knows, he keeps playing her and tragedy almost ensues. A little honesty goes a long way in a marriage!
Thank you to NetGalley and Backlit PR for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
I really enjoyed Caroline and Taran's story. They meet at a Masque and are instantly attracted to one another. Too bad they are both to wed the next day. But as it would turn out, they are marrying each other. What happens when they learn the truth about their masked encounter? This is my first book by Scott and Waters and it won't be the last. If you are looking for a hot, steam read, this is the one to get!!
Wow.... This was one HOT and romantic book! The pages almost melted from steam here, and the plot was good.
One of those books that whisper to my ears - this is the stuff you should not be reading lady (too hot) - and on other side whispering to me - let's continue, because the plot is good, the action is good and the romance is good too!
So yes, I finished, and I can say from regular historical romance reads - this one was melting my pages and my heart at the same time!
Explosive enemies-to-lovers historical romance!
Oh my, Caroline is a heroine for the ages! She's not going to just sit by and let life make decisions for her. She may not be able to get out of the arranged marriage, but she certainly can take charge of a few other things! And Taran is hot, hot, hot! He's captivated by his Aphrodite, despite the fate that awaits him the next day. These two steam up every scene they're in, even when they're adversaries who think they know the whole story of the other.
This is a delicious, delightful romance that brings all the feels, all the heat, and all the happiness any couple could deserve. It was a joy to read, and one that I know I'll be reading again. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Love this story, Caroline is a super strong character and doesn't give a F about what her future husband will think. She was determine to have a good time at the masquerade ball, where she meets her future husband and had sex with him. The following day they get married and the women he knows as Aphrodite AKA Caroline, ends up as his Wife! The story is what it is, full of sex, full of erotic tension, and the growing of love between a couple who thought will be complete opposites.
A good story by KyAnn and Tarah. Loved the story of Taran and Caroline. Lots of steamy scenes. I really loved the storyline from start to end.
Lady Caroline Wilmont expected a loveless marriage from her betrothal to the cold John, Lord Blackhall. Then he dies and Caroline is almost immediately betrothed to his brother Taran, who she assumes will be just as bad as John. Determined to taste desire with a man who truly wants her at least once before her marriage, Caroline sneaks out to a Masque costumed as Aphrodite, intent on making memories of desire to see her through what is sure to be a cold marriage.
Taran Robertson, now Viscount Blackhall, despises the fact that he must marry the English heiress his father has chosen and makes no secret of that fact. He attends the Masque as a last indiscretion before his wedding, only to encounter the most seductive woman he's ever met, and one with obvious secrets.
When Caroline realizes who she's just had a tryst with she is horrified. From what she's heart of her new fiance she's sure he won't tolerate a wanton wife so she feels she must ensure he never finds out she was Aphrodite.
I didn't really follow Caroline's reasoning here. She was a bit of a brat when she wasn't in costume and honestly if both of them had just been honest with each other they could've solved a lot of problems. But then again, that angst was a driving force for the plot. There were several plot holes and confusing scenes, but the plot strengthens near the end with some danger elements that I appreciated, along with the intense amount of steam of course.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Lady Caroline and the Viscount of Blackhall are betrothed to be married. Neither are particularly happy about the upcoming union. Unbeknownst to the other they separately attend a masked ball for one last moment of freedom before entering what they believe will be a loveless marriage. Their night at the ball is just the beginning of passions and secrets being revealed.
This was a fun and steamy read. Fast paced and well written. Great chemistry between Caroline and Taran. I hated for the story to end and hope that we get more with these characters.
Lady Caroline Wilmont thought she had escaped from one despicable fiancee only to find that she is now betrothed to his younger brother, a man she has never met. On the eve of her wedding, she escapes to a masquerade in the hopes of having one memorable night before she is sacrificed on the altar of marriage.
Taran Robertson, Viscount of Blackhall, entends on having one last night of debauchery before he finds himself leg-shackled. When he crosses paths with the enigmatic Aphrodite, his entire world is rocked. He knows his mysterious lover has secrets, but he isn't expecting to see her again least of all at his wedding as the bride.
This book is a hot read that had been me hooked. I could not put it down. The sex scenes are intense, and the characters are engaging, and I love the banter between the two love interests. This book is definitely one to read if you're looking for an erotically charged read.
I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wow! This is one hot and steamy book that you won't want to put down. This is one seriously fun read featuring a strong, spirited female character, lots of steamy romance, a bit of angst and a few secrets thrown in as well. A 5 star book for sure.
A masquerade, passion and hotness wanted? Read this one. I absolutely loved it! I couldn't put it aside because of the way it was told. It's my first Tarah Scott novel but it won't be my last one!
Caroline attends a masked ball, and hooks up with Taran, not knowing (either of them) that they are actually supposed to get married. A lot of hot and heavy sex, hence the erotica genre note, but would also have liked a bit more story development as well. A good story overall, but could have been stronger. Would recommend at 3.5.
I enjoyed reading this book. The relationship between the main characters was very erotic from the very start of the book. It had a mystery and a “big misunderstanding” to complete it.
A steamy smoking hot romance book that will leave you breathless and wanting more from this author. Well written. Steamy romance.
I just love this author's stories and this one was no different. I enjoyed this story very much and can really recommend this book to all book friends
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book.
I hadn't realised when I requested this book that it had been published in 2017, so this review probably won't be needed. It's fun and raunchy with quite a few explicit scenes, (maybe one scene didn't need to be in there). I liked the main characters as they had wonderful chemistry and were decent people; except Caroline could be slightly dramatic at times.
Plot wise, the complication with her uncle seemed a bit abrupt but didn't affect the overall outcome in the end. This is the first book in a series which I can see doing very well for women who want some escapism.
3.5 stars
Great, multi-faceted characters. Very interesting plot. Just steamy enough. Kept me intrigued from the first page to the last.

This story will definitely steam up the glasses! An English lady forced into a betrothal to one man. When he died, she is again forced to that man's younger brother, a Scottish Viscount. Determined to find her first taste of desire before she is shackled to a man who does not want to marry her anymore than she marry him, she goes to a masquerade dressed as Aphrodite. Well that could only men she was looking for a tryst! She meets a man and all I can say is wowza. What she does not know is he is her betrothed! Talk about fate stepping in at an unexpected moment!
Now if only she did not have her wedding the next day.
Secrets, desire and a steamy romance that have you turning the pages. I read this through NetGallery.
I do love Scottish based stories and this one was a good fast read.Hot sexy scenes were abundant so if you don’t care for that don’t read it but I think the storyline was good and I enjoyed the book.I highly recommend this book for a one sitting book.
Secrets, this book is filed with them! I loved this historical romance book! It was filled with suspense and romance. Well they be able to live each other when they learn the truth? I can't wait to read more from this author!
Whew. This book is STEAMY! But it's not just sex scenes. Unlike many steamy books, the plotline is actually really interesting.
Caroline wants one night of passion the night before her wedding to the brother of her late fiancé. Her fiancé died in a horse riding accident and she is being forced to marry the brother. While she accepts her "duty" she understands that as the Viscountess, she will be expected to be a proper wife. She attends a masquerade ball in the hopes of one night of passion before her sex life turns into duty. The man she meets ignites her passion and curiosity and she has a night she will hold in her heart for all the boring nights of her marriage. As they are parting, she realizes he is the man she is supposed to marry the next day. Drama ensues.
What the story lacks in a cohesive plot, it makes up for in erotica. Overall, the book isn’t horrible but it definitely should be enjoyed for its sexual scenes rather than it’s story and characters. I found the flow to be a bit chaotic to match the sometimes confusing plot, and the characters to fall a little flat. The being said, this is a short spicy read that won’t take up much of your time if you’re looking for a bit of steam.
