Being the first artist masterclass I've had the privilege to review, I look forward to This being another amazing series.

Aim at young readers...this is a clever introduction to the art of Gustav Klimt.

It has a little of Klimt's history, his background and early life. It also shows how he developed his art style the ‘Secession’ movement and how you could make your own artwork in his style. Using sticker, tin foil or even sweet wrappers, what a marvellous way to kindle an interest in art.

It has pages where you can draw your own pictures and some where you can embellished Klimt's own work....a lovely way to spark a child’s imagination...and a few adults too.

Art Masterclass with Gustav Klimt
by Lucy Brownridge
Illustrations by Hanna Konola

Short succinct introduction to Klimt’s life and paintings that allows young or old to experiment with his techniques and style.

I enjoyed seeing what Klimt looked like wearing his painting smock and loved that he was holding his cat in the photo. The timelines gave a quick glimpse of Klimt’s life and what he was doing at various times.

The book includes projects for application of his style that include:
* patterns
* nature – flowers
* outlines
* trees
* senses
* painting a song
* bedazzling ideas in place of gold leaf
* and more

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
How do I see it being used?
* by teachers
* by children of parents who want to engage their children in artist
* as an activity in camps
* in museum programs for youth
* as a gift to a children

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Wide Eyed Editions for the ARC. This is my honest review.

What a lovely and fun introduction to Gustav Klimt and his wonderful and bright art! The timeline touched on important dates in his life while giving the reader a bit about his history and how he became an artist. As for the masterclass, I liked that Klimt's style and techniques were sectioned and shown in more detail for readers to copy and recreate, and that the reader is encouraged to try out different mediums and methods to achieve work like his. It shows that little details do make a bigger picture. I knocked off a star because I was missing more of Klimt's art for reference. Kids who are not familiar with him might not get the excitement for his paintings. It's a quirky and well designed book, very engaging and easy to follow.

Very simple but instructive resource on how to use different mediums to create works of art. I liked that the author gives the reader an area in every section to practice what is covered.

This book is a well thought-out, step-by-step guide, to breaking down the art process. However, Klimt's subject matter is often better for older teens than the elementary school students this book seems aimed at, due both to its sensual, often nude, subject matter and also advanced mythological/biblical and emotional references. While the artist does a terrific job showing the details of Klimt's art and how to reproduce them, and while she gives an excellent history of the artist, she doesn't do enough to show a gallery of his paintings to generate excitement in a student unfamiliar with the artist. Therefore, I think this book would be well placed in museum book stores, where children who are already excited about the artist would be able to use this as a followup resource, or in a classroom where Klimt has already been studied. The author needs to be careful about proofreading the text -- there are several grammatical errors that should be fixed and on page/step 8 she refers to "The Kiss" as one of Kandinsky's best known works.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a children's nonfiction book. I got this book from a wish! Lose it! I am not an artist, so this is on my level! It breaks down the artists work into manageable pieces. Especially enjoyed the show to make patterns page! Truly enjoyed the book. Young artists hopefully would read and take off running! I rate it 4.5 stars

Another informative book! I didn't know very much about Klimt before reading this book, and I have to say he's got such a wide verity of style! Another great book for artists of any age!

Interesting and easy to follow. Can see this book being a huge hit for artistic followered. Lots to read about and learn from

You have to hope the copious errors – timeline in wrong order, Kandinsky credited with "The Kiss", etc – had been corrected by the time this hit the press. It's a fine little book, with some colourful presentations of Klimt artworks and ideas of how to add to, alter or replicate them. I did initially think the audience would be put off by the complexity of the originals, but I think with some soft parental guidance they would be happy with what they came up with after these exercises. It's a nicely interactive book, with stickers and a blank poster for your final masterpiece, although the merits of the book would slightly rely on the paper quality I can't judge from this e-arc. Either way, the balance of education and artistic endeavour to be undergone is nice.

Wow! I absolutely love this series for children and will definitely be purchasing a physical copy to use with my kindergarten students and own children at home! I love how tangibly I can help them create art in the style of different master artists.

This book is part of a wonderful series from Wide-Eyed Editions. In this entry about Gustav Klimt there are ample opportunities to learn about the artist and his way of creating; the reader then can create their own works using their knowledge. The beginning of the book lists the tools needed to complete the projects; I loved that the artist's eyes and learning to look was included.

Klimt's biography is given. The reader learns of how he wanted to break away from tradition to make his own art. The reader will find that shapes and gold were important to Klimt and will find out why. In terms of projects, there is the chance to create pictures and even to use stickers.

I think that this series provides such an appealing entree to learning about art. I can't wait for the next volume.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This is a brilliant, educational book. The idea of learning alongside Klimt s art is brilliant. Perfect for children and for use in the classroom.

What an incredible art education resource! Not only do we learn a touch of art history and theory, but we are given practical exercises to create art in the style of Klimt. The book is written with a child's audience in mind, however parents, teachers, and librarians will gain plenty of inspiration. Educators could adapt the exercises and information in this book to be appropriate for any elementary school grade.

The book encourages kids to use the same materials that Klimt used - mainly tempura paint and gold leaf. However, it notes that you can use any material and do the exercises too. It doesn't just cover Klimt's most recognizable images. We learn how to make patterns like him, how to draw from nature, how to use outline, how to understand the depth of colours, and more. One of the most interesting exercises encourages kids to "paint a song like Klimt."

There is a mistake on the timeline page near the beginning. The year 1994 is included on the timeline where it should be 1894.

I highly recommend for anyone running an art program or class for kids. Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reading copy.

Another great addition to the Art Masterclass series. As each of the entries have the same format, this book was as perfect as the others. It has the right mixture of information and creative space.

In this book, there are 12 lessons which teach you how to create art just like Klimt. In each chapter you learn a little about Klimt's style, you are then given the opportunity to recreate his work or using his ethos create your own.

I found the book intriguing and creative I would love to buy it for my nephew who is 10. He would get a thrill from doing something that is unique or at least considered unusual.

The thing I did not like about it was because I was reading it digitally the text did not enlarge much and as I was reading it on a smartphone it was difficult to see. I'm sure this would not be a problem with the printed edition.

There was one mistake that stood out in the diagram of Klimt's life it is obvious that the writer Lucy Brownridge meant 1894 but it seemed that 1994 had been printed by mistake.

Other than that printing mistake I enjoyed the book.

I love the works of Gustav Klimt so I was curious about this book. Part art lesson, part drawing therapy, part biography of Klimt, this book is full of how Klimt painted: his use of patterns, creating texture, using bold metallic colors and various styles that he went through before finding his style. Though I'm not quite sure if this is targeted to kids, because the way the tone of the book sometimes sounded to me.

Klimt painted out of the box and I'm glad to be reminded of being unconventional and abstract. I want to try the activities there now, wondering what I'll get (me who wishes I can paint and draw properly...but what is proper anyway?).

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for a copy of this book.

This is a clever little book because it can be used by anyone wanting to get an insight into he art of Gustav Klimt. It is primarily aimed at children but would suit anyone wanting an insight into his life, work, and methods. It gives you an immediate feel for his style. It is also excellent for introducing children to great artists with plenty of fun stickers and 'have a go' sections as you go along. Overall a really useful, versatile, and well designed book.

Most kids' books about art and artists take one of two approaches: 1) the life of the artist; 2) examples of the the artist's most famous works. Now, both of those things are present in these books but the larger focus is on elements of the artist's style. In both books, we are presented with a painting that exemplifies some element of the art style. Motion, shadow, shape, focus. We look at the element and then experiment with replicating the element. These books allow young artists to experiment and develop their own art styles as well as looking at the artists' work through a new lens.

Absolutely loved! Such a fun way for kids to learn and show teach them cultural aspects to if not love but to appreciate.
Thank you the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read this novel in exchange for an honest review.

A super insight into one of the great artists. The brief but clear history of Klimt was engaging. I thought the twelve mini tutorials were fun and inviting, giving the reader chance to study the different techniques and then have a go themselves. Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher, Wide Eyed Editions(Quarto Publishing) for an ARC.

The Art Masterclass series by Quarto Publishing is a genius collection of titles aimed at helping young readers create art akin to their favorite artists. This book, which focuses on Gustav Klimt, covers the many techniques that he utilized in his beautiful paintings, such as patterns/shapes, outlining, and using senses.

I felt this was a solid first step in helping children understand & realize that art can be broken down and created using skills they already possess. My only issue is that it is aimed at Kindergarten to 2nd grade. While the fonts and general layout support this, the text/instructions are better suited for late elementary - maybe even early middle school. The only way I see this working for the 5-to-7 age range is in a classroom setting, being lead by a teacher or art instructor.

Overall, though, I thoroughly enjoyed this particular book and the entire series, as well. It is a solid 4.5/5 stars.

Thank You to Quarto Publishing and NetGalley for this digital copy to read and review!

Klimt has been one of my favourite artists for years, I love his use of colour and contrast, the way he translates sounds and music into a visual picture. This workbook is a simple yet detailed introduction to the style of Klimt. I can absolutely see this workbook inspiring some joy and creativity.Lucy Brownridge focuses on all the things I feel are essentially Klimt and the illustrations made me want to take another look at his original art.

This is a fun and interesting series for children (and adults too, if you ask me!) that introduces a different artist in each book. The artist's work is discussed, covering techniques used, influences, things to look for in their style, etc. I liked that the works are broken down into pieces- use of color, use of shapes, how brushstrokes are used, light and shadow- making the work more accessible and easier to understand. Each aspect of the work has some practice exercises, leading you to create your own version of the artist's style at the end. This would make a great gift for any art lover, young or old!

Thanks for sharing this one. There are a few typos, but otherwise it's a great, inspirational art book. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.

I applaud this series from Quarto Publishing

In this beautiful material, children develop their visual acuity and appreciation of Master Klimt's artistic style. Each lesson addresses a representative feature, such as the way the artist drew human faces and features, composition with complicated patterns to suggest the rest of the painting, his landscape scenes with his “abstract impressionistic” style, his use of shimmering gold , etc.
Each lesson is accompanied by images of the artist's artwork, so that children can learn about important works, develop their visual art acuity and judgment. In the end the child is invited to invent and create their own exhibition of works of art putting everything into practice!
The Art reflects an outstanding feature of our humanity, the ability of creative expression, the master command of symbolic language, transforming the objective in infinite subjective interpretations.

My sincere appreciation to the Publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to review the book
