As soon as I saw this book, I snagged it and I don't regret it. The amount of creativity that fills each page along with the detailed illustrations went beyond my expectations. There's a section for each dragon specie and my favorite bit were the sea dragons.

Fantasy and dragon lovers should definitely pick up on this highly informative bestiary!~

Huge thank you to NetGalley for providing me with the free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I can’t say enough about the Dracopedia Field Guide. This is the kind of fantasy encyclopedia you’ve dreamed of, filled with every kind of dragon you could imagine and every minute detail you’d want to know. I was completely engrossed in the descriptions paired with the beautiful artwork. I’ve never seen a fictional field guide that’s so thorough and well-planned. If you’re a fantasy fan, I guarantee you’ll want a copy of this, if only to let your imagination soar for hours on end.

To start, each dragon is split into a genus with overarching histories, descriptions, and characteristics common to the species. We see the size of their eggs, the length of their wingspan, the various areas of the world they populate. Everything you could want to know is here in full, glorious color. Creating a guidebook to dragons is one thing but this book takes it to the next level.

I’m obsessed with the beautiful artwork on every page. These dragons are drawn so intricately, beautifully displayed at full wingspan and with a head and shoulders closeup. There are so many varieties I would never have imagined if not for the brilliant minds who put this book together. I can’t stress enough how epic this volume really is.

Overall, the Dracopedia Field Guide is something special, an encyclopedia of sorts that tells the story of a fabled world many dream of, where dragons are as common as birds and are spread across the globe in all their glory. It was a joy to read and take in the artwork, and I’ll be returning to this volume often.

Dracopedia Field Guide is a new guide to dragons and wyverns based on the great naturalist field guides of the Victorian era. Expected release date 7th May 2019, it's 160 pages and will be available in hardback and ebook formats. Written and illustrated by William O'Connor (sadly no longer with us), it is full of witty details from the 'stained' flyleaf with Dewey decimal accession number and tea splashes and Latinized author credit, to the dragon range maps and Linnaean nomenclature in the encyclopedia.

The book is stunningly illustrated. The additional details, from egg characteristics for the different species and uses of different dragons for travel and warfare, as well as field sketches on locomotion and anatomy, are wonderful and so realistic.

I received an eARC of the book in Kindle format and experienced some issues with viewing on an eReader (Kindle Oasis 2017 version). There were no observable issues on a color monitor or tablet. There is a contributor list at the end of the book with credits to the artists who stepped in to help complete the project on Mr. O'Connor's untimely passing.

This would make a superlative selection for a school or public library, for fantasy gamers, speculative fiction readers, all ages, and anyone who has longed to see dragons on the wing above them.

Five stars, beautiful book.

This book is so much fun, and packed with creativity. It takes me back to a favourite childhood movie: The Flight of Dragons.

DRACOPEDIA FIELD GUIDE is a must have book for the dragon lovers! I had no idea how many various types of dragons there were in the "imaginary world" of Dragons! The illustrations are so detailed and come to life! The descriptions of the various dragons will fulfill all imaginations! I was absolutely stunned by this fascinating book! I think I'd rather have a hard copy though.. the ebook is okay.. but, for the serious collectors.. trust me.. you'll WANT the physical book! I know I certainly do!
