I am trying to figure out exactly what it was about this book that made me adore it so much that I couldn't put it down. It was not what I expected and yet better than I hoped it would be. Edwin has been spending the past year trying to get over the girl who broke his heart and dumped him as she rose to reality TV fame. Enter Parker, misfit and mysterious girl who ends up paired up with Edwin for a project that involves interviewing a veteran. Enter Garland, a WWII Vet who will change both of their lives forever. The format of this story makes it easy to read as each chapter starts with a witty quip that will be addressed in the short chapters. I felt like the story was a little far fetched as Garland is LOADED and able to fly all three of them to France, to find the love of his life that he met when his had to jump from his plane in France.before D-Day. Through twists and turns of fate and chance, the three find their way on an epic adventure with love at the heart of it all. I loved the characters and the realistic writing of the teenage voice. The tour through France and the history that is recalled through Garland's stories, that are recorded by Edwin for youtube add an additional layer that kept my interest and made me think of my own grandfather and his experiences during this war. The story was heartfelt and it grabbed me right from the start. I really really enjoyed it and will highly recommend it because it truly was more than I thought it would be on so many levels. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

Oh my GOD this is one of the best books I have read in a long time. This book deserves TEN stars!!!! What a great story. Edwin Green lives in a small town in Alabama. He was dumped by his now famous ex who got famous by posting you-tube videos and being spotted on a kiss-cam at a baseball game kissing him. She is famous for nothing, as people get famous for now-a-days. That part is SO real. Edwin is chosen by new mysterious, fellow student, the gorgeous Parker to interview an elderly person about WW2. She takes him to a nursing home and introduces him to her friend Garland, a senior who is absolutely freaking hilarious, totally sane, and filthy rich, as well. Parker and Garland convince the very practical Edwin to go with them to France to find the long lost love of Edwin's life from 70 years ago, a girl he met during WW2 in a small village there. Edwin eventually caves after much convincing on Parker's end because he wants to get famous in hopes of winning his now famous ex-back by getting famous himself. What ensues is a hilarious journey for three of them from breaking Garland out of the nursing home in Alabama to flying to France, then driving throughout the countryside breaking many laws, all while on the run from authorities, all in search of Garland's long lost love, as the story unfolds in the press all over the world, but especially in the US. This book is SO well written, the story is amazing, the characters interesting, not a detail is missed, and absolutely everything about it is SO lovable from page 1. IMO, Mr Gibbs has an incredible future as a YA author!!! This book is amazing, funny and you will NOT be able to put it down!!!! Thanks SO SO much to NG for the ARC!!!!

Young Adult Fiction

A really good fun read.
I reviewed this book for Netgalley.

Edwin Green is a perfectly average American boy, with a perfectly average American girlfriend, until she becomes famous and disappears from his life. Understandably Edwin does not want to talk about Sadie Evans, who is in every gossip magazine and what feels like every TV channel one way or another. Meanwhile a red headed girl, gaining gossip like a rock gathers moss, appears in some of Edwins classes. Parker (red headed girl) singles out Edwin for a school project, out of the blue. But she doesn’t speak to anyone so why Edwin Green and why now?
The story begins relatively slowly building a wonderful suspense of what possibly could happen next.

The characters bond and develop all in good time and it gave me a good sense of their humour and personalities. I loved Edwin Greens headspace! The writing gives a great perception about what he’s all about.
Twists and turns that made me smile numerous times along with sadness and strong emotion for such a sweet story.
The more I read the more I wanted to know.
I’d recommend this book, I already have to my daughter. I could see this book being made into a film.
I look forward to reading more By Chad Alan Gibbs.

"Two Like Me and You" is such a fun and entertaining book! I'd like to thank NetGalley for a copy of this book to read and review. This is the story of three unlikely people who come together for the adventure of a lifetime...and boy does this adventure have heart. Parker is the girl most likely to beat you up if you ask her on a date. Edwin Green is known for having his heart broken by his ex-girlfriend who ran away to be a movie star/singing star. Parker and Edwin get together for a class project to interview WW2 vets. Enter the amazingly well developed character of 90 year old Garland Lenox. Garland lives in a nursing home and can tell some tall tales....probably most of them are too tall....as he frequently adds "You can't make this stuff up". Garland has some money and some time on his hands and he dreams of finding his long lost love in Paris. Parker dreams of adventures and getting away and Edwin dreams of getting famous. So why not just disappear one ditch their families, schools, and nursing homes and go to Paris? Oh and they may be breaking a lot of laws while doing so.... I will stay away from saying much more because that would only include spoilers. But this book has an intriguing plot line and will tug at your hearts strings! The relationships among all three of our main players is beautiful to see unfold across the pages. I agree with others who've compared this book to the works of John Green- but-I think I like his better than most of John Green's books. Still the pacing felt off in a few spots and sometimes the normally witty and lovely dialogue would get lengthy and distract me. Still this book is a huge winner and I enjoyed it a lot! I will keep my open for any future books from Chad Alan Gibbs!

I received an Advanced Review Copy of Two Like Me and You by Chad Alan Gibbs from the publisher Borne Back Books through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

What It’s About: Edwin Green's is still suffering heartbreak after his ex-girlfriend becomes famous and dumps him. He's convinced that if he can become famous, he will win her back. Then a quiet girl, Parker, in his class with a secret approaches him: she has a plan that will get him famous. There's an elderly WWII veteran, Garland, who is desperate to find his long lost love from the war in France. So Parker and Edwin are to break Garland out of the nursing home and fly to France. But chaos ensues.

What I Loved: If you're willing to suspend disbelief over teenagers breaking a 90 year old man out of nursing plane and flying him to France, then this book is hilarious. I literally laughed out loud several times. The shenanigans these three get themselves into are hilarious and the characters, particularly Garland are so well developed, you are just cheering for them. This book would make a perfect movie. I absolutely loved it.

What I didn’t like so much: Some of the shenanigans are a bit unbelieveable and how they get away with all of the things they do seems unrealistic but if you can deal with that you will find a fun journey.

Who Should Read It: People who love unlikely heroes. People who like adventures. People who like old loveable crummudgeon characters. People who can suspend disbelief for the sake of humor and enjoyment.

General Summary: A fun adventure book with really loveable characters.

Review

I would like to thank the author for a copy of Two Like Me and You in exchange for an honest review. Receiving an advanced copy of the novel did not influence my thoughts or opinions.

Alright, so I know what you are thinking… “David, this is so unlike you. Where are the swordy stab-stab battles? What about the pew-pew, die-die spaceship duels? Wait, have you gone soft? Did Kealan Patrick Burke scare you off of horror novels for good?”

To be honest, I am even a bit surprised myself. But when Chad reached out and said that he had a new novel in the works, I had to check it out. You see, Chad has written a few books already, mostly having to do with religion, football in the south, and some of the greatest sports rivalries of our age, but under a slightly different name. He also used to write an award-winning weekly column in a local paper when I was in college that I read religiously. To be it in perspective, I have read most of his works and he has to be one of THE funniest people I’ve ever come across.

Suffice it to say, this was a no-brainer.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I had some reservations about reading a YA novel, especially one concerning falling out of and back into love. It just really isn’t my forte. I mean, maybe my wife’s, but CERTAINLY, not mine. But I digress.

Gibbs absolutely captured me from page one, what with his comically foreshadowed chapter headlines, characters I became enamored with, and a gut-punchingly inspiring story that I could not put down. You can ask the Mrs. I literally kept picking this book back up over the course of Friday evening/Saturday day and finished it quicker than any other book I have reviewed over the past four (4) years.

Two Like Me and You is destined to become the “next big thing” in Teen/Young Adult coming-of-age fiction. I would put Gibbs up there with the John Greens and Stephen Chboskys of the world. It wouldn’t surprise me if you see this book on the big screen, capturing the hearts of teens and young adults everywhere; not to mention grownups. It is hilarious, heart-wrenching, and absolutely beautiful. Just read it.

This book was so good and sweet. It sort of reminds me of a John Green novel. I found myself laughing out loud. That’s why I love YA novels. They are so innocent. I felt like I was talking with my grandfather, at times. It brought back some really good memories.

This book is laugh out loud hilarious. Every twist and turn had me laughing throughout this story.

This story focuses on Edwin Green, a boy who is known for having his heart broken by his ex-girlfriend who ran away to be a famous star. Enter Parker, a girl that Edwin is partnered with to interview WWII veterans for a class project. When the pair meet and get to know Garland Lennox...the rest is history.

I don't want to say too much because going into this book without knowing much leaves it open for fun, hysterical surprises. Highly recommend this book.

I absolutely loved this book! It is a fast paced romp full of action, intrigue and romance. The characters were engaging and endearing. The story, while often wildly implausible, was extremely entertaining. I loved the diversity in age, personality and cultures. I loved the history that was included. And it should definitely be made into a movie. Fabulous!

Edwin Green. A young man whose heart was broken one year ago by Sadie Even, now one of the most famous teen stars in the world. Edwin now tries dodge any questions about his ex, but has a secret fantasy of becoming famous himself and winning her back. He has set up a YouTube channel and posts videos of his daily happenings; the problem is that he only has half a dozen followers, so far.

Parker Haddaway. The new girl at school who keeps to herself. 7 schools in 4 years will do that to a kid. She's turned down countless "cool guys" for dates. Yet, when the history teacher announces a new assignment to interview someone who remembers WW2, she immediately chooses Edwin as her partner.

Garland Lenox. A nonagenarian WW2 veteran who lives at the old folks home where Parker's aunt works. His stories are crazy... but there might be some truth in some of them. One that he keeps repeating is the story of getting shot down over France just before D-Day and being sheltered by a beautiful woman named Madeleine.

They comprise the most unlikely crew and set out on a covert mission to fly over the Atlantic to find Garland's lost love.

Let me tell you all the ways I loved this book:

Three distinct voices that are funny, original, and heartfelt.

"In which our hero complains about his assigned seat" -  an example of one of the witty chapter headlines that kept looking for clues.

Hidden and not so hidden references to 90s hip hop, movie quotes, and all kinds of historical mishaps.

A wild romp of a plot.

Seventy years of feelings...

An ode to rebirth, a new start, and a man's last wish.

Pick up this YA novel that is authentic and pure!

5 out of 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Borne Back Books, and the author for an advanced copy for review.

Two like Me and You is the feel-good YA novel that the year 2019 needs. And that's the statement.

Before I jump with my review for this book, let me just extend my gratitude to Chad Alan Gibbs and Victory Editing for writing and publishing this gem. Huge thanks also to NetGalley for approving my request to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Two like Me and You is like a fresh fruit juice you suddenly had in your hand after a week of walking in the desert. Yeah, this book is definitely refreshing. It has all the elements I want in a book - romance, heartbreak, adventure, escapade, history, and touch of reality. Chad Gibbs perfectly mixed all these ingredients beforehand hence the amazing result is, with no doubt, perfectly presented as well.

The moment I read the gist before requesting this book, my attention was fully engaged. Talking about a hopeless romantic teenage guy who desperately wants to win his ex-girlfriend's attention back with an additional twist of a complete stranger who suddenly became a friendly savior plus a whole mix of adventure to Paris. Who wouldn't want to read a book so flavorful like this?

Also, the characters are uniquely relatable in their own ways. Edwin Green is the hopeless romantic most of us may have been at some point of our life while Sadie Evans is the image of the love of our life we so desperately want to end up with but for no apparent reason, the universe decided to not let our wish be. Parker Haddaway, or should I say Emily Bloom, represented us in a way how the society always judges a person through the cover but also an admirable character for her strong take on not letting others' thinking affect your whole persona.

But Garland and Madeleine's World War II love story is what sold me with this book mostly. How our young MCs crossed path with a WWII veteran who also happened to be in search for his long-lost love one if not being imprisoned in a seniors facility in Alabama. The sequence of this book also make me realize on how true the butterfly effect is, and how all of our main characters' action continued to ripple all throughout the book which started with a simple written project about World War II.

And of course, the writing is commendable as well. The way Chad Gibbs written this book is truly impactful and most of the sentences will either leave you rolling on floor laughing (yeah, I can't make this shit up, son) or silently sobbing because the words are wonderfully woven in an intricate pattern.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and devoured it in one sitting after an overnight shift. So if you are into teenage romance with a whole lot of adventure and escapade plus a sprinkle of World War II love story and a lot of unquestionable backstories, then this book should definitely be on your TBR. Ciao.

RATING: 5stars

This was such a unique story and something I haven’t come across before which is always refreshing. The plot was exciting and fun.

For me it started off a little slow but once once I started getting into it I couldn’t put it down.

I loved Parker’s personality, she’s confident, quirky and fiercely independent. Edwin has been spending his time pining over his now famous ex girlfriend Sadie. They meet Garland a WWII veteran who convinced them to take him to Paris to search for his long lost love and from there begins their adventure.

I really enjoyed this fun, unique young adult novel, it had the perfect amount of suspense along with strong likeable main characters and I’m very much looking forward to reading more from Chad Alan Gibbs.

I want to thank Netgalley for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review.

Two Like Me and You tells the story of how Edwin Green gets roped into a crazy Paris-bound adventure by new girl Parker Haddaway. The pair meets Garland Leno, a World War II veteran, and together the three venture to France in search of Garland’s long-lost love. Did I enjoy this book? Yes. Did it seem to go a bit off the rails at times? Definitely.

This book definitely has all the things: car chases, escaping from police custody, troubled childhoods, a famous ex-girlfriend, an irate old man who happens to be a pathological liar. It’s an entertaining tale, but sometimes I was left thinking, this is insane. I think we probably could have dialed down some of the craziness.

I wish we had dived a little deeper into Parker’s character. I feel like we get only a superficial view of her. Her character is very manic-pixie-dream-girl-esque, which I isn’t my favorite trope. She has never spoken to Edwin and yet after being assigned a project with him, recruits him to help with the plan to go to France because he can drive and speak French (or so she thinks). Throughout the book, we get to see just how quirky she is. She likes singing random rap lyrics, skips school to hang out at the retirement community, and *spoiler alert* thinks she killed her parents. A lot of the time, her character felt like a plot device designed to help Edwin get over his obsession with his famous ex-girlfriend and realize that there’s more more to life.

Edwin’s ex-girlfriend Sadie is the worst. For the life of me, I could not understand why he was so hung up on her, especially after the way she broke up with him. If someone did that to me, I would want to punch them in the face. I wouldn’t — but I’d want to. I did enjoy seeing Edwin’s view of Sadie change by the end of the story, and could appreciate that he seemed to grow as a person.

And Garland was the absolute best! I loved his insane stories (some true, some bald-faced lies) and how at the end he always goes, “You can’t make this stuff up.” Garland has such a big personality and I love that he’s willing to put everything on the line to find his long-lost love. I also enjoyed how he was willing to give everyone, including police officers, sass. His character really added a fun element to the book. He also made me realize how few characters from an older generation exist in the YA genre. We need more!

This book was a breath of fresh air. The concept was unlike anything I’ve read and I greatly enjoyed the action-packed adventure.

Two Like Me and You is an amazing debut novel that will make you laugh out loud and then squeeze your heart in the end.

Edwin Green, a highschool student got dumped when his girlfriend suddenly skyrocketed into fame. He definitely wants to win her back and keeps trying to make himself famous just so she will notice him again.

A history class project got him partnered with Parker Haddaway, his high school's new girl with mysterious past. The project led him to meet Garland Lenox, a World War II veteran stuck in a nursing home whose only wish is to reunite with his long lost love... in France.

This book was a rollercoaster of adventures of this unlikely trio. There's a lot of too-good-to-be-true but ridiculously funny scenes. There's a lot of law breaking reminiscent of a good old comedy film. But very cute and very sweet. It was so easy to read and I felt like it was unputdownable that I read it overnight!

Though Parker fit the Manic Pixie Dream Girl formula that most readers hate, I still fell for her and loved her and it is quite sad to have finished reading this so quickly and not read about her anymore.

I have to commend the very beautiful insights of this book. The connection between the characters were strong. I am sure Edwin grew up a lot from the adventures and all the lessons he learned are lessons that I will also keep close to my heart.

Chad Alan Gibbs did a great job at this debut. Very interested to read his future works!

This book was excellent! Loved the story line! The history, Love, and the laughter.

Hearing a love story from an elders point of view but also involved with teenagers was a great plus that you do not see often enough.

I enjoyed the fact just when you got to a point you knew what was going to happen then the storyline changed.

I received this book "Two Like Me and You" from NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own. A fun book! I loved this book. It was fun and exciting. Adventures everywhere. This is not a real life book - don't expect a storyline like that. This is a crazy adventure book. Just a fun entertaining read.

An amazing roller coaster story of lost love, of an adventure and of doing right. It had everything a book needs to have and more. There were tales of extreme bravery that no one could make up, slightly illegal breaking out, car chases, romantic scenes and not the clingy making you puke kinda but the good ones which make you feel alive and live there in the pages of the book, homourous narrative, colorful characters and beautiful writting.
The story is told from the perspective of lovestruck and heartbroken (since almost a year) Edwin Green when he gets stuck in a school project with the mysterious Parker Haddaway, a beautiful redhead with secrets and hell-may-care attitude. They talk to the effervescent ninety year old war veteran Garland Lenox as part of this project and find out about his adventures and bravery in WWII but most importantly the love of his life, Madeline, a beautiful french girl who saved his life but was believed to be dead. Until Lenox found her photo in one of their books. Thats when the story gets interesting and they find themselves in France dodging police and lenox's attorney while the world stops to breathe and wait to find out the finale of a love story from the age of the war.

A story to be read, understood, enjoyed and read again. A story which makes you laugh, cry and fall in love.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC

Title: Two Like Me and You
Author: Chad Alan Gibbs
Genre: YA
Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Edwin Green’s still not over his ex-girlfriend. She’s famous. Like, really famous, everyone-knows-her-name famous. They split up a year ago—on Black Saturday—and Edwin’s been plotting to get her back ever since. His plan: to get famous, too. That’s not working out too well, so he’s stuck in high school, surrounded by idiots.

Until he ends up paired with mysterious new girl Parker Haddaway on a history project. She introduces him to Garland Lennox, a WWII veteran stuck in a nursing home. But Garland wants Edwin and Parker to sneak him out of the nursing home and to France, where he’s determined to find the love of his life, a girl he met during the war. Soon Edwin finds himself all over the news, but as the media is joined by the French police, he’s not sure being famous is all it’s cracked up to be.

I love the voice in this novel! Edwin grows a lot in this novel and realizes some things about himself—and his life—that he’s never considered before. He starts out as someone who lets life happen to him, but he learns to be an active participant in his own life along the way. He ends up in some hilarious predicaments, thanks to Garland and Parker, but it’s a thrilling, fun ride.

Chad Alan Gibbs lives in Alabama. Two Like Me and You is his first novel.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with this book, in exchange for an honest review.

I recently read a review for this book on Paul’s Picks blog. He made it sound so good that I just had to check it out myself. I’m happy to report that he has excellent taste. This book was funny, sweet, and heart warming.

Edwin Green has been in mourning since his ex sort-of girlfriend unceremoniously dumped him. He’s been unable to move on, since she’s now super famous and the constant topic of conversation at his high school. He’s been trying to become famous himself, in an effort to get his ex’s attention. Unfortunately, Edwin’s Youtube channel is less than popular.

That’s the state of things when his class is given an assignment- conduct interviews with a WW2 veteran. His partner is the only other ongoing topic of rumor at his school: Parker Haddaway. She’s sassy, confident, and not much is known about her. They speak to Garland Lennox, a cantankerous vet who convinces them to break him out of the nursing home. The three of them embark on an adventure of a lifetime overseas, trying to track down his long-lost love.

What I love about this book is how well everything just fits together. Each character has their own unique voice and motivation, as do all the people they meet along the way. While I have a soft spot for poor, pining Edwin, Garland is what pushed this book above and beyond for me. The stories he told about his life- maybe a third of which are true- were such fun to read about. The truth underneath his b.s. was heartwarming, and the resolution for his character was bittersweet and perfect.

And the hijinks they manage to get into! I laughed out loud at the incident involving a French police officer. This is one not to miss. It’ll make you smile.

Great read. The author wrote a story that was interesting and moved at a pace that kept me engaged. The characters were easy to invest in.

This book was so stinking cute. It was witty, hilarious and the main trio worked so well together. It was an adventure filled with so much randomness, but also history and love in the most unpredictible ways. It was a great summer read, I enjoyed sitting by the lake while reading. It felt lighthearted but it definitely was deeper than that. I think Chad Gibbs did an awesome job with his first novel. I am excited to read what he has in store next!

I loved everything about this book - it was so unexpected! Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down - I had to find out what happened. I loved Edwin Green, Parker Haddaway, and especially Garland Lennox - I have never laughed so hard when reading a book in my life! This is definitely one I'll be reading over and over again.

Edwin Green teams up with new girl Parker Haddaway for a history assignment in which they have to interview someone who lived through World War II. That’s how he meets Garland Lenox and somehow agrees to help “a crazy girl bust a ninety-year-old man out of his nursing home so we can take him to France against his attorney’s wishes to find a woman he met during World War II, all in the hope of becoming famous and winning back my ex-girlfriend.” Let’s see how that goes!

Our narrator Edwin is immediately engaging, with his fantastically sarcastic voice and love of lists. The way he weaves his story keeps you hooked, as do the outlandish chapter headings that give us a tantalizing taste of what is to come (ending in Chapter 66 with “In which—oh hell, just read it and find out.”).

The book is full of laugh-out-loud moments, and the author’s humor is even evident in his Acknowledgments section, which is the funniest I have come across. Despite the levity, the book also contains some of the most heart-wrenching descriptions of the war and one of the most bittersweet young adult romances that I have read. This is a wonderfully romantic and wacky story that will leave you yearning for more. As Garland Lenox is fond of saying, “You can’t make this shit up.” Except that the author did. Or did he?

My favorite read of the year so far. Even more amazing now I know it’s the author’s first novel.

Warnings: coarse language, war, suicide, sexual references, violence.

I read the synopsis of this book, and it is so much more! Such a fun, madcap adventure. All 3 major characters are well developed, unique, and instantly likable.

I have been a fan of the author’s nonfiction work for years, and was eagerly anticipating this release. It definitely did not disappoint.

From the first sentence, I was drawn into this book. Right away I knew that it would be humorous and entertaining.
Edwin was a fantastic main character. I loved the way that the author showed Edwin's progression throughout the book and it showed how Edwin grew to better understand himself and the situations that he was a part of.

I loved the way that the author used Parker and Garland to teach Edwin who he truly was, without letting him know that they were doing so.
The development of Parker somewhat surprised me to be honest. While I did see the progression of her and Edwin's friendship, I was not expecting the way it concluded.

However, I did 100% predict the way that Edwin and Sadie's relationship would end up.
I both loved and was disappointed by Garland's story. I wish that there had been more detail into who he truly was, I also hoped for a better resolution for his story. For that reason, I read this book a 4/5 stars.

Overall, this was a very engaging and humorous read. The storyline was easy to follow, the characters were relatable, and the story finished well.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I just adored this book. Chad Gibbs created a fun and memorable book that I couldn't put down. I loved everything about it, from the chapter headlines to the characters. To be honest, the story itself is pretty outlandish and far fetched, but that didn't stop me from really enjoying it! I've read a lot of heavy subject books lately so this was a breath of fresh air for me. This book is all about the characters, the stars of the book. I love all of the self discovery that the characters experience and the antics. I am still surprised at how much I adored it!

A perfect mix of Jerry Spinelli’s Stargirl and almost anything by John Green!

Where do I start? What an amazing adventure!

The book starts off a little slow but it quickly grabs your attention. It just as quickly has you falling in love with a crazy group of amazingly written characters. Two Like Me and You is indubitably an exciting read and will constantly have you exclaiming “oh my god”. As I approached the end I was afraid to keep reading because I knew the book hangover would be rough.

An absolute epic and exciting adventure. I can’t believe this is Gibbs’ debut. I highly recommend this book and am definitely looking forward to more by Gibbs!

Thank you Netgalley and Borne Back Books for a copy of this book.

So much fun!
I literally read this all in one sitting, it's just so funny and cute and it sucked me in. The main character Edwin is great. He's a loner with a famous ex girlfriend that he can't escape. Enter Parker, the new girl with a tough exterior who has a plan to escape with elderly veteran Garland to Paris. They rope Edwin into this crazy plot that involves stolen cars, fake identities, and an explosion.
Garland is awesome, his stories are hilarious and always involve the phrase "You can't make this shit up." They're so outlandish that you want to believe them and I wish I could meet Garland in real life. The chapters have fun names and are short, so you feel like you're speeding through. I couldn't put this down and I highly recommend checking it out!

Aw man. This book. This book! it was a funny rollercoaster sweet heartbreaking ride!
I loved every character, well expect Sadie Evans, but i am sure that it was set up to be that way.
I loved to follow Garland, Parker and Edwin on a search for Garland's lost love, even though it didn't exactly end as i had hoped, it was beautiful and heartbreaking. It makes me want to re-read it again, just so i can follow them on the crazy wierd, fun and heartbreaking ride once again. But i am not sure my heart would tollerate it.

Thank you NetGalley and Borne Back Books for an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book. This book was not what I expected. This a coming-of-age, coming to terms with the end of your life adventure story. This book centers around 3 characters, 2 teenagers and 1 ninety-year old man with dementia who wants to escape his nursing home to go to Paris to find a lost love. What ensues is so much fun, this was a very meaningful book and thoroughly enjoyable. What a pleasant surprise.

Edwin's ex-girlfriend Sadie is famous. Like, really famous. So when new girl Parker Haddaway enlists Edwin on a cross-Atlantic mission, Edwin agrees in the hope that it might catch the attention of Sadie. Add a 90 year old WW2 veteran into the mix and chaos ensues.

This book had me gripped from the get go. Parker's mystery mixed with Edwin's desire for Sadie's attention makes for a gripping tale. I was drawn into Garland's story and loved hearing his tales from the war.

I didn’t know this book would make me laugh so much! It was light and funny and full of adventures and stories, I have a hard time believing it’s a debut. This book is a refreshing new voice in YA literature, is filled with humor and charismatic characters that’d make you root for them till the end. Also, finally, finally there’s a YA book by a male author featuring a male protagonist that’s not John Green or Patrick Ness. Yay!

Two Like Me and You might mislead you with its cover and title, because this book isn’t exclusively about romance. It’s about two high school kids and an old man. Edwin Green is fed up of people at school asking him about his ex-girlfriend Sadie Evans, who is now a highly popular Hollywood star. When Parker Haddaway, the mysterious new girl at school offers to help him gain fame and his girlfriend back, Edwin is cautious and hesitates, but finally relents. Together, in pretense of a history assignment, they break out Garland Lenox, a World-War II veteran, from his nursing home and the three of them fly to Paris in search of Garland’s long lost love.

At first, I got the cliché mysterious-new-girl-at-school-and-the-boy-protagonist vibes, but soon the story took a round-about turn. Ever since Garland’s character made the entry, there was no turning back. He’s hilarious, and Parker and Edwin are no less. The characters have amazing chemistry and are well-developed. I loved all the descriptions about Paris and the way the author incorporated stories from World War II. Never would I have thought history could be this hilariously told. Chad’s writing is definitely one of the best things about this book – he has a distinctive humorous tone. While at first the brief one line summary at the top of each chapter felt like they’d spoil the fun, I later found myself actually looking forward to them. It’s a unique idea and it worked.

All in all, I loved how this book is different from the other YA books, especially that ending. I’m so happy it ended the way it did. It also has a slight hinting at a sequel, and if it comes, I’d be first in queue to read it!

Two Like Me and You by Chad Alan Gibbs is a very entertaining book, which I really enjoyed. Edwin is a teenager who is upset his ex girlfriend dumped him, and now she is famous. Edwin and Parker, a mysterious new girl at school become friends. For a school project, Parker introduces Edwin to Garland a world war II veteran. One thing leads to another, and the three of them are headed to France. What a fun and crazy adventure. If you are looking for the perfect escape or a summer read, I highly recommend this book. I will be reading more books by this author.

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.

What a fun summer read 'Two Like Me and You' turned out to be!

Edwin Green, the most cautious teenager in the world, has been pining for his famous ex-girlfriend Sadie for a year now. So when a ninety-year-old World War II veteran Garland and Edwin's newish classmate Parker who might or might not be an undercover cop hatch a plan to bust Garland out of his nursing home and take him to France to find his long lost love, Edwin is not thrilled. But what if this crazy escapade made Edwin famous and won Sadie back?

If you are a fan of road-trip novels, definitely check this one out. It's cute, it's hilarious, it's heartfelt, it makes you laugh but also shed a tear. Or two. The characters are very likable and their stories tug at your heartstrings.

I also liked those little summaries at the beginning of each chapter which were funny in themselves.

Perfect for John Green fans.

In this entertaining adventure story, Edwin, the main character, finds more than he bargained for on his quest to become famous. After being dumped by his famous ex-girlfriend, Edwin vows to do whatever it takes to get her back. But when he pairs up with Parker Haddaway, the new girl in school, he gets dragged through a whirlwind adventure through Europe that involves a World War II vet and the French police. The storyline wraps up nicely, but you'll have to read it to find out if Edwin becomes famous or attains notoriety.

I rated this 4.5 stars, and the only reason I knocked off the half star is because Parker was so much the manic pixie dream girl trope. However, I really enjoyed her anyway, as well as all the other characters. This book was so refreshing as it didn't focus entirely on the romance plot, and was more of a hilarious adventure with some romantic themes. I really loved the WW2 aspect of it and how Garland told his stories, and thought the plot as a whole was really unique. I'd definitely love to read more from this author.

I loved this book so much, I could hardly put it down. The humour was brilliant, the main characters were awesome, the plot was great, the chapter openers made me laugh, and the ending was pretty heart-wrenching. If you enjoy John Green and Maureen Johnson, you should enjoy “Two Like Me and You.”

You know what? This book really surprised me. I went into it kind of “meh” based on the description of the plot (which, amusingly enough, is a tongue-in-cheek joke made at one point in the book when one of the characters briefly restates what’s going on and the other character responds “Sounds like the plot of a book I wouldn’t read.” I genuinely laughed out loud at that.) So, yeah, my expectations were not all that high going into this book. Boy was I pleasantly surprised!

I loved EVERYTHING about this book. I’ve read some real misses this year, so this was an incredibly welcome surprise. Witty, smart, heart-wrenching, and laugh-out-loud - this book has everything. The writing was just amazing, and the characters were all so likable. Especially Garland. He’s the grandfather we all wish we had.

I can’t sing this book’s praises enough. It’s been awhile since I read such an enjoyable book - one that made me laugh, hope, and cry all at the same time. 5 very enthusiastic stars on this one!

Edwin is normally a cautious guy.
The day he meets Garland, that changed.

Edwin’s life hasn’t been the same since his girlfriend Sadie left him. She became famous by accident and left Edwin when a talent scout spotted her at 16.

This is a great journey.

Edwin’s class is assigned to interview someone around during WWII.
He gets paired up with the new girl at school, Parker
Parker knows exactly who she wants to interview. His name is Garland, he’s at the nursing home where her aunt works.

When Edwin meets Garland, Garland offers him $50,000 to take him and Parker to Paris. Garland is trying to track down his true love.

Edwin’s first instinct is, of course, to say no. He’s only in high school, he knows he won’t actually be allowed to do it. He doesn’t want to agree to do something behind his parents’ backs.
But a few things appeal to Edwin right away:
1) If he became famous for helping Garland, he might get Sadie back
2) his parents are worried about how to pay his college tuition
3) he is a romantic and he likes the idea of reuniting Garland with his lost love

What follows is an epic journey. The characters are likable and colorful.
I really enjoyed it.

I got to read an early copy of this book from NetGalley. Thanks!

I got to say this book is unlike what you see just from the synopsis or title. It's totally unexpectedly good and fun to read. Edwin and Parker were assigned to pair up for an school assignment and Parker introduces Garland who is a World War II veteran (someone they need to interview for their assignment). The adventure begin when 3 of them set to France to look for Garland's long lost love.
I enjoy the adventure in the story although the immaturity in Edwin who can't get over his ex can be a little annoying at some point. Overall, it is a fun and wild adventure that tackles the issues of growing up and hanging onto long lost love. This book made me laugh and tugged on my heart strings.

I received an ARC through Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Opfor an honest review.

I don't know what I was expecting when I first started reading Two Like Me and You. However, whatever I expected? This book exceeded those expectations. By far.
I was offered an ARC by Netgalley in exchange for a review. All opinions are strictly my own.

The story
Edwin Green's ex-girlfriend is famous. We're talking cover-of-every-tabloid-in-the-grocery-store-line famous. She dumped Edwin one year ago on what he refers to as Black Saturday, and in hopes of winning her back, he's spent the last twelve months trying to become famous himself. It hasn't gone well.

But when a history class assignment pairs Edwin with Parker Haddaway, the mysterious new girl at school, she introduces him to Garland Lenox, a nursing-home-bound World War II veteran who will change Edwin's life forever.

The three escape to France, in search of the old man's long-lost love, and as word of their adventure spreads, they become media darlings. But when things fall apart, they also become the focus of French authorities. In a race against time, who will find love, and who will only find more heartache?

The opinion
This story really has it all. There's romance, there's history, there's a chase for something possibly impossible that's just crazy enough to be plausble. And throughout all of that, there's an author who manages to get it just right every single time.

I mean, where do I begin, really? The slightly over the top-ness of just about everything that Garland says? The mystery that is Parker Haddaway, and the perfect pace with which the author manages to unveil just why and how she is the way she is? Or the melancholy, the acknowledgment of "why am I doing this" mixed with a heaping helping of "what am I even doing?" crossing through Edwin's mind for just about the entirety of his narration.

As Edwin, Parker and Garland make their way through France, there's a slow reveil of what exactly brought all three of them there. The culmination of that, which felt both so tragic and sad, but also so utterly perfect for each of these characters? The way the ending is hinted at-but-not-quite even from the first page. The way everything that happens seems just a little mad a bit insane... Yet I was so willing to go along in it, so rooting for them to find what they were looking for... That's the signs of a great author for me.

The rating: 5/5
I don' give 5 stars easily. I really don't - I almost have to feel that a book changed me, or my perspective. But Two Like Me and you definitely did that - and it left me sitting there, just staring in front of me, and wishing to experience that entire thing again. I absolutely loved it!
