A precious walk-through to creating your own website.

I run my first web server (and website) back in 1994, yet I found this book to be a concise, first-hand blueprint for building a modern, up-to-date website. The most outstanding characteristic of this book is that it paints in accessible terms the complex scenario of today’s website planning, creation, and maintenance.
While there are plenty of reviews (and links, of course) to the mainstream services and brands, the author makes clear that these could vanish or change in the next years, and therefore she guides the reader in understanding the underlying technologies, which will remain the same, at least conceptually.
In contrast with most buzzword-bloated text you can find around, this book uses everyday language, without falling into the obvious. DNS, VPN, style sheets, back-end, and User Experience are explained in a plain, comprehensible manner, requiring no prior knowledge on those topics.
Last but not least, the appendix is an invaluable trove of curated links and materials useful to deepen one’s knowledge and making the first, all-important steps.

How to Create Your Website was a timely book for me as I am just learning my way around navigating my own website. While not all of the parts were applicable, I found the section on SEO especially helpful and it was a great tool for explaining all the different and important aspects of having a fully functioning and secure website.
There did seem to be strong feelings from the author about the use of different platforms which may be a deterrent to some...but I did appreciate the suggestion of knowing how to ulutize and create your own site instead of relying heaving on social media platforms which can change or remove content at any time.
A very good beginner guide for readers aiming to create their first website. Very well explained and illustrated.

One of the few books I've read in the last time dedicated to upper level issues related to setting up a website. The advice included covers issues such as security and the online safety, the choice of a platform (mostly focused on the platforms aimed at the needs of writers) and SEO. It is very useful especially if your knowledge goes a step beyond the 101 Internet knowledge. Although many of the things recommended can be done automatically while using a specific platform or provider, it is important after all to know what do you deal with and what kind of packages to choose when you select a specific provider. Reading it does not require a specific vocabulary and additional reading, unless you want to cover in depth some of the concepts addressed. Recommended to anyone curious to make his or her way around creating websites and understanding the principles of website maintenance and online security. The book is also well structured and organised in useful batches of information which makes the reading an useful experience, especially if you have time limitations yet interested to have your website ready and functional to get more leads.
An excellent resource book for writers who are starting out or who have little experience with handling websites and blogs.
If you're trying to look at website options, or, like me, are struggling with your blog productivity, this is a great and comprehensive guide. So comprehensive in fact that it brought up things that had never even occurred to me. If the book had been written less effectively, I might have started to feel overwhelmed.
Fortunately the book is laid out in a straightforward, easy to read way and filled with helpful tips and checklists.
A must-have reference book for beginners.
My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is an excellent resource for those of us who need help creating our own websites and blogs. You are given detailed and understandable examples and cues on how to grow this project from its infancy to completion.
Highly recommended.
A short read. Well written and interesting!
If you're interested in creating your website, this will help you! It's well divided into chapters, easy to read and understand.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publlisher and author for allowing me access to this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.
An excellent resource for creative types who want to develop cost-effective doable websites. Written in nontechnical language, this super helpful guide includes a basic to-do list, with chapters on domains and emails, privacy and security, hosting services, landing pages, website builders and blogs, platforms, building your website, search engine optimization and Google, useful apps and tools, and recommended reading. Info rich for just 116 pages, with a clean design that makes it a snap to skim and use. 5/5

A helpful, well put together guide on how to create a website!
I sat in front of my laptop crying because I was so overwhelmed by the various articles I was reading on the internet to help guide me.
This book took all the information that I was gathering and lined it up in a row for me, streamlining the process and making it so I actually had a sense of what I was doing, and not just blindly following directions.
Would definitely recommend to anyone struggling to make a website for the first time, or just in need of a refresher.
Great advice for a newbie like me. Good, useful and very practical tips and tricks, and written in an easy to read and understand way. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review.
I enjoyed this book. It was filled with a lot of good useful information.. I recommend it highly! It was easy to get all the information I needed and expected.
It was an interesting read. I can't wait to implement some of the suggestions.
This is a good resource for those of us who need help creating our own websites.
This is a good book for those that are clueless and want to start a website. The only downside is I wished the author would have covered a large range of free websites such as blogger. I have had a blogger for years and by first looks, you cannot tell is a blog, other than that she covers a few different providers for a website so you should be able to find one to fit your bill.
This book will get you started on SEO, but there is a deeper level for SEO for authors and all other kinds of business out there so make sure you keep digging and learning SEO after you get the hang of the simple steps this book can give you. If you can get your SEO right when anyone is searching for an item that you have to offer your website will be on the first pages of searches.
This book is very detailed so anyone will be able to understand and follow the author’s steps.
I recommend this book to any aspiring author, aspiring blogger or new handmade sellers.
** Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with the digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review **
From one that is absolutely clueless with anything to do with a website. I found this book informative with some interesting tips. Now time to put it into practice.
I like this book! It's very detailed and useful for those who (like me) dream of having my own website, my own blog, and not just on IG. Great resource!!
Oh finally, creating a website in plain English! I was particularly interested in learning about SEO as everything I was finding online was over my head! I highly recommend this useful guide!

For those looking to find a guide to help create their own website, this book could be quite helpful. I found it to be a bit more technical than I expected, but that means it will serve a greater number of needs. Those who need less information can easily skip what they don't need. Those who need more will find it here.
The author has sifted through to find what will work best for writers on a budget. A comparison is given with pros and cons of each recommendation. For those on tight budgets, this book gives info about the practically free ways you can set up a basic website for blogging. It also gives explanations about alternatives to the more costly Wordpress business package, and also speaks on the prevalence of hacking on Wordpress.
I recommend this book as one resource to be used along with others when seeking to set up a new website. I read the ebook and feel a hard copy would be more helpful to have in hand to work through when engaged with the actual project. Also the reader needs to keep in mind how quickly information changes in this field so some info in this book may not be relevant for long such as the costs quoted.
I was given a free ebook copy by #netgalley to read and give and honest review. This is my honest opinion. I have not used the book for actually setting up a website, but based on my limited knowledge, I found no reason to think this book would lead astray except for the reasonable expectation of fast industry updates.
This book is an easy to read and understand resource for anyone that wants to create their own website.
As a freelance writer and blogger, I definitely know how important it is to have a working website. This book is super short, so it doesn't go into great detail about anything, but it does contain the basics of setting up a website for yourself if you're a writer. I found some of the descriptions of website terms really helpful; I definitely have a better understanding of some of the terminologies now. This book is a great read for someone just starting out who is completely unfamiliar with starting their own website, but might not be ideal for people who are already familiar with things like SEO and website domains.
Even just having a blog means having to learn about creating a website, managing all that goes with it and what to do to persuade people to visit it.
This book gives even the most technologically challenged of us the information necessary to make us confident enough to set up that first blog.
