Description
A DELTA DEVLIN NOVEL
After a near-fatal car crash, Royce Vandeweghe wakes up to find he's one of the first patients to undergo a radical new procedure: a full-body transplant. Convalescing years later and suffering from waking nightmares, he answers the door at his Long Island home and meets Delta Devlin, a New York detective. She sees things nobody else can--visions created by a mutation to her eyes--and meeting Royce sets off an unraveling chain of events...
Royce becomes Devlin's prime suspect in a string of grisly murders. Desperate for answers, he tracks down the grieving widow of the man whose body he now inhabits. Out of time, and perhaps his mind, they spiral into a world of black-market body parts and billionaires where nothing can stand in the way of living forever-not even death itself.

"The Dreaming Tree is a taut thriller injected with mesmerizing hard science. A walking lie detector makes an incredible detective-Delta Devlin is a franchise character worth losing your head over."

"Another mind-bending story by the master of technothrillers! If Cyberstorm was brilliant, then The Dreaming Tree is genius!"
-Nicholas Sansbury Smith, New York Times bestselling author of the Hell Divers series
"For nearly a century, ever since The Hands of Orlac, readers have been fascinated by the notion of a body at war with itself. Now, in The Dreaming Tree, Matthew Mather ramps up this classic concept to an even higher level of thrills and suspense. In a believable near-future setting, rich guy Roy Lowell-Vandeweghe undergoes a full-body transplant-courtesy of the mysterious Eden Corporation-awaking to find his head grafted onto a donor form. What follows is a nightmare odyssey of identity confusion, uncovering the legacy of the past, and coming to terms with one's own sins and those of others. Add in a murder mystery under the investigation of classy, sassy female cop Delta Devlin, and you have a twin-barreled blast of creepy, high-tech, gothic grue."

Featured Reviews
The Dreaming Tree is a unique book that has a entertaining storyline. The characters are interesting. A decent book.
Medical science fiction dominates the first part of the book so a solid background can be established for the murder mystery that follows. Interesting concept that allows for an entertaining novel.
This was my first time reading anything by Matthew Mather, but I have a feeling I’ll read more in the future. The novel was well written, the characters well rounded, and the ending a beautiful twist.
The first part was hard for me to get through. Mather sets up all the moving parts without showing what the end result will be. As such, it seemed to drag on a bit. But that all changed. Like a switch was flipped, the novel went from dragging along to full sprinting to the finish line.
I absolutely adore this book. It keeps you guessing the whole time, has some surprises, and makes it really hard to take breaks for real life. I love how cutting edge of the science was but at the same time so applicable to real life that it makes it almost scary. I've read two other books by Matthew Mather and he's quickly becoming my favorite author. Thank you
