Description
Beth Gardner knows what she wants. As she approaches her thirtieth birthday, her life has progressed like the to-do list stuck to her refrigerator. Fulfilling job? Check. Condo in a trendy Atlanta neighborhood? Check. Supportive friends and a cat to cuddle? Check and check. Safe distance from her childhood in Tennessee? Big check. But something is still missing.
When she meets the charming Mark Berger out dancing one night, it’s love at first tango. Adventurous and athletic, Mark encourages her to venture out of her carefully constructed life and begin a new life with him in southwest Florida. “Slow down,” her friends advise. “What’s the hurry?” her therapist asks. “Why not?” Beth responds. “Why not happiness for a change?”
But will open-water diving, night lobster hunts, and off-shore sailing offer smooth waters for the couple? Or will the dangers and secrets of the deep pull them under? Determined to make this relationship work, Beth is about to find out.
Full of adventure and reflection, Summer Squall explores how the correct course in life isn’t always straight line.

“Summer Squall” is a great book to bring along for a beach day, just be careful not to get burnt because this book draws you in to the point that it’s easy to lose all track of time. Love is full of give and take and compromises. This novel explores what happens when one side takes more than they ever give.
Another win on #Netgalley #ARC #summersquall #sarahjones #bookstagram #bookreview #booknerd #obsessed #ilovebooks #kindlefire I love how this book had just enough details in it but it wasn't so over the top you wanted to skip ahead a few. #dontlieyoubedoneittoo this story is about the strength of women and the bonds of friendships. It's about love and marriage and maybe not quite knowing who Mr. Right is. #intriguing #mysterious you were rooting for the main character all while trying to figure out "her story". It was a quick fun read and I'd definitely recommend to all my #readerfriends #bookhangover
Princess Fuzzypants here: There were times when I wanted to scream at Beth. She was such a deluded doormat that it was frustrating to read how she would acquiesce to her husband and convince herself if she tried hard enough, she could make it all work out. Abused woman can rationalize almost anything and do. It does not make reading about it any easier. But unlike many tragic cases, Beth does finally confront her demons and takes back her life.
The cost is heartbreaking. She loses so much to gain a small measure of herself. I will not spoil the plot but there was a point where I cried. That is a compliment to the author. She is able to stir great emotion but it does take the reader on a rollercoaster ride. Beth is finally forced to look at her life and her husband and choose. She makes healthy decisions and the book ends on a promising note. It is a reward for the gruelling journey. Both Beth and the reader deserve a break.
Four purrs and two paws up.
A good book, full of emotions, engrossing and entertaining.
I loved the well written cast of characters, the setting, and the plot that flows and keeps you hooked.
I look forward to reading other books by this author.
Highly recommended!
