This is a very colorful and educational book intended for kids, which means there are lots of pictures !! Such a pleasure to read, and it's a nice idea to let kids with cats in their homes read about how to get along and take care of cats. Five full stars :)
I simply cannot resist a good cat book!! This one is a lovely cat guide intended for kids, as the title suggests. It will make a lovely gift to families with felines, or would be families as well.
I would like to thank the publisher for giving me a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
What a wonderfully engrossing book! It is more than educational but also fun to read. Includes a little trivia but what kids will really like is the cat Casey who has some insights into feline behavior as well as a few other well-placed comments from guest cats. Glad for tips on training cats as most people don’t believe they are trainable. Loved this book and even taught this experienced cat person a few tricks!!
I received an advanced reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for my volunteer review.
I must thank Storey Publishing for allowing me to read the ARC edition of this book through Netgalley.
This is really cool guide not only for children but also for adult cat carers, especially for the first-time owners. I've read a bunch of cat guides, each had its own merits, but this one covers everything in a way children (and adults) can easily understand. Adults who are already familiar with the subject can still find themselves inspired to try something new!
The advice range from the history and species trivia to general care and understanding of your pets' anatomy and behavioral cues, to some specific health and other subjects (such as adoption, dangers in and out of your home, training, food choice, health check, vet visits etc.) and do-it-yourself projects for your pets' entertainment and safety. The visuals and side notes are so cute and very entertaining, which is helpful for children to keep paying attention. I liked step-by-step advice and hints that may ameliorate relationships of children (and adults!) with pets. I think it still isn't a book for very young children, but rather for those aged 8 and up, but youngsters might easily follow it with their parents' help. I liked also a recommended reading list at the end, very useful for first-time owners who wish to go into more detail.
My nine year old daughter wants to be a vet more than anything, and this was a great way for her to get engaged in understanding more about cats and what their individual mannerisms mean. It is also helping her out with our cats! Greatly illustrated and shows things very visually. Would definitely recommend!
This is a great nonfiction title! What I really like about this book is that it is well organized without overloading you with information. Different sections are broken up with fun DIY projects and there are, of course, lots of adorable cat pictures. As a cat lover, I appreciated the research that went into this title. It is up-to-date with tons of great information that many cat owners have yet to encounter. Any child that reads this book will know lots about cats and be able to be a great cat caretaker!
This is an excellent and informative guide to looking after cats, designed for children. It has lovely, colourful illustrations and photographs throughout. It is packed with useful information, not only on how to care for your cat, but also on how to cheaply make toys, boxes, scratching posts and so on. I really love the fact that as well as the basics (food, water, vets etc), it also tells you how to train your cat - both for fun, and to make necessary things (eg nail trims, vet trips etc) far less stressful for you and your cat.
This guide wouldn’t be suitable for very young children (though you could read it to them), but is very much aimed at the child (or children) taking responsibility for looking after the pet themselves. If I had a child who wanted a cat, this would definitely be the guide I’d buy for them.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
