Description
From the author of The Tea Dragon Society comes Dewdrop, the delightful children's tale of an adorable axolotl who cheers on his underwater friends as they each bring their talents to the pond's sports fair!
Dewdrop is an easygoing, gentle axolotl who enjoys naps, worm pie, and cheerleading. When the yearly sports fair nears, he and his friends—Mia the weightlifting turtle, Newman the musical newt, and three minnows who love to cook—get ready to showcase their skills to the whole pond! However, as the day of the fair gets closer, Dewdrop's friends can't help putting pressure on themselves to be the best. It's up to Dewdrop to remind them how to be mindful, go at their own pace, and find joy in their own achievements.

This is one of the most beautifully done children's books I have ever seen. The story is engaging, the characters are expressive, and it has the perfect message to share with its audience. It has a clear message that encourages other people to be themselves and spread kindness to others. O'Neill has outdone herself once again with her beautiful art and adorable storyline. I love this book so much. Thank you for the chance to read and review it!
As always, Katie O'Neill is the sweetest soul. This adorable book shows Dewdrop encouraging his friends when they feel the pressure of being the best get to them. As a mother, I see this happen so often. I love the sweet approach Dewdrop takes. Not to mention, THE ILLUSTRATIONS. Can we just all agree that Ms. O'Neill could draw goop and it'd be adorable? Perfection.
I adore The Tea Dragon Society graphic novels so as soon as I saw this I hit request! Katie O'Neills art style is perfect for children, she creates such imaginative characters.
This is exactly the type of positive friendships representation children need to read about. Encouraging your friends and being there for them is the message Katie O'Neill has tried to convey in Dewdrop and it was evident on every page.
I loved everything about this book.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this comic!
My rating: 5 stars
I am a huge fan of Katie O'Neill so obviously I instantly requested this when I saw it on NetGalley! The artwork was stunning, as always, the story was short but impactful, like with all her graphic novels!
This is the perfect book for children and adults alike. Dewdrop and his friends were absolutely adorable and the messages O'Neill weaves into her work are so effortless and necessary.
My only complaint is that I wanted more!
Dewdrop is so sweet and heartwarming! I love all of Katie O'Neill's comics and her beautiful art and Dewdrops fits right in with the rest.
Dewdrop is a short story which seems to be aimed at a younger audience (nothing wrong with that! I love it anyway) about Dewdrops and their friends getting ready for a Sports Fair. Everyone faces doubts and insecurities but Dewdrop with their endless positivity and kindness helps everyone strive to do their best and overcome their negativity!
Highly recommend Dewdrops for it's adorable art and story and especially for Dewdrop who us the cutest!
This was the most precious and amazing little story!
As always Katie O’Neill, has some of the cutest and most amazing characters in her books and this on is no exception. This was so precious and lovely, and as always, the artstyle was so beautiful!
What a lovely book. So colourful and engaging. Children and adults alike with love this book and Dewdrop. Just be yourself and spread a little kindness is the moral.
The pictures draw you into the book. The book shows a little love and kindness goes a long way.
I love Katie O'Neill's work as an illustrator and graphic novelist, and "Dewdrop" only made me cherish her even more. This story follows an adorable axolotl, Dewdrop, and her friends as they prepare for and compete in their pond's festive sports fair. Dewdrop's friends are clearly passionate about their own unique talents and interests but eventually begin struggling with feelings of self-doubt and insecurity as they assess the competition. Sound familiar? After noticing her friends' behavior, Dewdrop comes along and reminds them of what really matters.
"Dewdrop" is an uplifting and encouraging story for readers of all ages. I can't wait to purchase my own copy!
This is one of the most beautiful picture books I've read in a long time. The illustrations and the colour palette are very pleasant to look at and I really like that the author chose axolotl as the protagonist, it's such an interesting animal. On top of that, the story itself makes perfect sense and has a great message. It's better to try your best rather than compare yourself to others, help each other and be yourself. I think that every kid would love this, it's colourful, cute and has an enjoyable storyline. I mean... an axolotl who is also a cheerleader, come on! And to be completely honest, even adults would enjoy these illustrations, they're adorable. I definitely want to check out other works by Katie O’Neill, even though I’m 22 years old and without kids. They're just so cute.
An arc was kindly provided to me by the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I know this is a children book, but at this point I would read literally anything that Katie O'Neill writes/draws. I just love her stories and her drawing style so much, they are always so cute!
This story has a lovely axolotl as the main character and it was all so sweet! It talks about how sometimes people can feel self-doubt and how the help of friends can help to overcome it, it's such a good and important message and the execution was brilliant as only Katie O'Neill is able to do.
Such a sweet little book about friendship and supporting each other! I cannot wait till this book is published so I can buy copies for my nieces and nephew, because come on, we all need a little cheerleader in our life <3
I love everything Katie O'Neill does! She excels at creating adorable characters who are both the softest cinnamon rolls and also passionate and caring. Dewdrop is a lovely story about supporting your friends and being yourself. I loved it!
*Thank you to NetGalley and Oni Press for providing a digital ARC.*
Dewrop is the cutest axolotl (I can’t even pronounce it but who cares!) and he cares a lot about his friends. My son told me to pick this book to read because Dewdrop looked so cute. The art throughout the book is absolutely adorable and the story is sweet and heartfelt. The book is told in comic book style with the word bubble appearing when a character speaks. I love how Dewdrop helps his friends by encouraging them when they feel a little anxiety about their role in the sports fair. This book definitely resonates with my seven year old who needs encouragement to not give up when things get challenging.
I feel like we do not deserve this book, it is just an incredibly pure story, so pure that my heart can't take it, it's like a big warm hug. I will always love Katie O'Neill's art, so beautiful and soft which makes you want to hug the characters so bad. And the moral of the story basically being "you can do it" and "do it for yourself" is just amazing. I love love love this book.
Dewdrop is Katie O'Neill's middle grade little graphic novel about an axolotl and their friends who prepare for a sport festival. It is amazing how Katie O'Neill manages to have such important themes is such a small amount of pages. Even as an adult, it was still nice to be reminded that you don't have to be the best one there is,you just have to be better than you were before and the only person you should compete with is yourself. And of course the cute and colorful art style made this book even more adorable. This would definitely be enjoyable for little kids and adults.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was given DEWDROP from Oni Press for an honest review.
AND I LOVED IT.
I'm a huge fan of Katie O'Neill's art and stories, but DEWDROP hit home for me. This new year I'm trying to be more positive and look at the brighter side, and that is precisely what our little axolotl does. I actually teared up a little, because Dewdrop is so cute and positive.
A+++ story. 10/10 will recommend to everyone — especially those who are struggling to achieve their goals.
Thank you, Katie, for another lovely story.
This book is one of the cutest, purest and most wholesome children stories I read. I love the art style by Katie O'neill, she´s one of my favourite illustrators. I would definitely recommend it for young children who are starting to read, as the storyline is easy to understand.
Another great book - beautiful in art and message - from Katie O'Neill. There are not enough superlatives to show how cute and awesome this book is. The art is amazing. The story is super-adorable. Check this one out!!
Dewdrop is the supportive friend we all need when we put too much pressure on ourselves. As the creatures of the pond get ready for the yearly sports fair, Dewdrop stops by all of them to lift their spirits, and encourage and support them in their chosen tasks.
**I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**
Dewdrop is a joyous story about being a good friend, an encouragement to those around you and being you - the best you can be. In the sweetest of ways this is age appropriate mindfulness and resilience training.
We are introduced to underwater friends who are preparing for a sports fair to showcase their talents and abilities. Some are participating others are helping to set up this event. Dewdrop is naturally upbeat, has few doubts and is the kindest of friends - one who notices what is going on around him and wants to help He provides great advice, through praise and reassurance.
As much as I love the story, it's the illustrations that had me enthralled. The colours are luminous and vivid, quite eye catching, with just the right amount of text - including those to indicate sound and movement. The action and movement jumps off the page. The written words, takes up a minimum amount of space.
The animals are adorable - their personas are the cutest, but many artists can draw cute and cuddly. It is the variety of expressions that convey anxiety, doubt, adoration, confidence which makes this a special read.
Least I forget to mention, this is not a one sided relationship, the friends who are helped acknowledge Dewdrop's effort in an appreciated way.
Dewdrop is a wonderful book that illustrates the power of words and friendship. It was a delight to read

Friends, it is no secret that I love anything Katie O'Neill publishes! She has a beautiful way of writing and has such beautiful artwork that I fall in love with every time. So when I found out she had a new book coming out, I was ready for a whole new piece of work to fall in love with. Needless to say, this was the cutest and sweetest thing I recently read. I truly felt like I was watching pond life and I think many readers will fall in love with this story.
Our story follows an axolotl named Dewdrop who is preparing to participate in a sports fair with all of their friends. However, long the way of preparing for the events of this fair, Dewdrop's friends develop anxiety and self-doubt about their talents. So it's up to Dewdrop to lift their spirits and support their friends no matter what happens!
I loved this book so much. The friendships that Dewdrop has are so precious. Dewdrop really shows what it means to be a true friend and how to be an encouraging, supportive friend. Our main character's friends slowly develop self-doubt and struggle with anxiety of being good enough. Dewdrop swoops in and lifts their friends up with love, support, and encouragement that truly warms the heart. The friendships and story-line moved me so much that I even reached out at the random to tell my own friends how much I loved them, that they doing well, and that I hope we can see each other soon. I truly believe that this will inspire the younger audience to really value and cherish the friendships they make.
Of course, the art work in O'Neill's books are always so beautiful, so soft, and really calming to read. I find myself constantly taking each page slowly to absorb the beauty of each page. Every page is it's own piece of work and every shade really sets the tone for each panel. Even if, for whatever reason, you're not reading the book for the story-line then the art work will truly capture your attention and your heart.
Overall, I loved this so much. It was an easy five stars from the beginning. I knew with my heart that this was something I needed to read right now and the art work was truly soothing for the soul. If you haven't read anything by Katie O'Neill yet then I highly recommend checking out any of her books. She is so creative and she writes about some note-worthy lessons that we all need reminders of once in a while. Plus, the art work is stunning. I feel like I always talk about how dreamy and lovely the art work is in each book, but it really is deserving of the highest praise. I can't recommend O'Neill's books enough!
Katie O'Neill's distinctive art style shines just as well in picture book format as it does in a graphic novel. She tells the story of a sports fair that an axolotl named Dewdrop and friends are participating in. The friends appear in a variety of roles highlighting their personal talents and abilities, but their confidence begins to waver. Dewdrop, who is incredibly confident and positive, comes to the rescue, encouraging all of their friends. The plot is perfect for preschoolers, but older children might find it a little dull. However, O'Neill's bright color scheme and cheery illustrations really help support a message about doing your best for young readers!
