As I pondered the concept of this cookery book, I realised that should I want or need to fill my refrigerator with five day’s worth of what are effectively ready meals, albeit healthy, nutritious and frankly, delicious, I would have no idea how to go about it. Now, I’m a confident and competent cook but fifteen meals is a lot of cooking in one day! So this is where Vegan Yack Attack’s Plant-Based Meal Prep comes in handy. Also, there is more to this book than the prepping menus.

The first couple of chapters follow the usual recipe book formula, one selling the benefits, one listing store cupboard essentials, another listing basic equipment. I like these chapters as they make me feel a little smug when I can tick off most of the items.

From then on, Sobon presents a selection of weekly menus, categorised by ease, number of ingredients, time, free froms etc. There is a shopping list and prepping guidelines. Each week’s menu features breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks and full details on how to prep all of them in one session. You will end up with five identical breakfasts, five identical lunches and five identical dinners but I guess this is the only option if the whole convenience thing is to work.

However, there are mix and match menus and also stand alone recipes and having followed a plant-based diet for over forty years, I can honestly say that some of these are absolutely scrumptious. Of course, there is no need to cook enough for five, so I reduced the quantities just to try some, although the Smoky Sweet Potato Soup is so good it’s worth making enough for ten!

I love the photographs and I understand that Sobon is an accomplished food photographer. I wonder if she could make my soup look as good as hers…

This is a great cookbook for vegans, like myself, who are overwhelmed with meal planning. So many vegan recipes have lots of ingredients, so it can be hard to compile a good grocery list. This book breaks down week by week what the menus and grocery lists are, plus there are many colorful pictures and variations if someone wants to personalize their menu. Everything is broken down and organized well so that even the most inexperienced cook can follow along, and the recipes look amazing. Can't wait to try some of these out!

Great information on meal prepping for plant based meals. Meal prepping is very important in our busy lives these days. I really like that there is a meal prep for one person and not a whole family per usual and it included a menu and shopping list. I will definitely be referencing this. This was a neat book, especially as lots of people, vegans included, love meal prep to make life easier. The book has a great variety in the recipes, which makes it more interesting.

This is a great book for using a variety of methods and recipes for keeping the fridge well stocked and having your meals well planned ahead. Sometimes this is quite difficult for a vegan diet. The author not only provides recipes. but also meal plans and shopping lists, and all of these are adaptable and interchangeable. The photographs are mouth watering, and I just wished there were more of them. I thought it was brilliant the way there were sheet pan recipes, recipes for the instant pot and even for the freezer. The only downside for me is that the recipes themselves were not as appealing as I had hoped. But overall this is a very good, and informative book.

Vegan Yack Attack’s Plant Based Meal Prep was much more than I expected. As well as giving you tips on how to make meal prepping easier, there are also so many weekly plans.. plans for single people, couples, mix and match, kid friendly food ideas etc. Although not every single recipe was to my taste (which is to be expected), it’s still full of amazing recipes and I can definitely see myself using some of most of their weekly plans.
I really love the style of this book, from the fonts that are used to the photos of the food.. it is all very aesthetically pleasing. Whether you’re looking to meal prep or just want some new recipes ideas, I would highly recommend.

Great little book of easy to follow food preparation. The step by step tips from shopping to food prep makes healthy eating a pleasure and so easy rather than a chore, to fit in to most lifestyles and makes your week easier.
Lovely recipes too for delicious and simple healthy eating. For everyone, not just those following a plant based diet.
I would recommend this book especially to my students to encourage them to start life planning ahead without much trouble to make eating healthily a real option in their lives.

As someone who has not done any meal prep before and would like to, I found this book to be very informative and easy to follow. There are lots of recipes that I would like to try and I found the instructions on how meal prepping work to be easy to follow.

As a vegetarian that can't have dairy I tend to have to look at the vegan options more and often there isn't much to choose from most places, so having meals ready will be a big help.

I would highly recommend this book even for people that don't do meal prep yet.

Love, love, love this book. It's not easy to come by a vegan cookbook for one let alone a vegan cookbook for one with meal prep! Amazing. I started doing meal prep a few months ago and would have loved to have this book on hand. The beginning of the book breaks down meal prep completely- step by step- from what to buy to what order to make things to how to make the delicious sounding recipes (and I love that the author took into consideration there will be left over ingredients that could be used in the following week's recipes). The book gives great suggestions for structure but also provides tips for making meals with others (families, friends) and mixing up the recipes. The pictures were beautiful. A step-by-step guide to meal prep, vegan style. Many ideas in here, many delicious looking recipes, and I can't wait to give some of this a go, even though meal prep isn't really for me.

This actually looks REALLY GOOD.

It is easy to look at, visually appealing, and laid out in such a way that it is easy to use. It doesn't waste your time with a bunch of boring stories you don't care about or go over basics that you already know. What it DOES do it make vegan meal prep look less daunting, and it makes the recipes look satisfying and like something you look forward to eating.

This book is filled with helpful advice on vegan meal prepping, especially for a beginner. There is a variety of options for each meal, including snacks, which is nice since you will be eating the same meal several times in one week. This means that from week to week, you will be varying your palette. The instructions provided are great, including step-by-step lists for "day zero" (prep day). There are recipes for just one person prepping for the entire week, prepping for a family, and even a few options for the kids. While it is laid out in menu style, you can tweak it to suit your needs, though that would require some finagling for the prep day instructions. Unfortunately, the mix-and-match section does not provide a weekly grocery list, which would have been helpful (for the premade menus).

My biggest complaint is that there are no reheating instructions. Is it best to reheat in the oven? What about microwave times? While it bothered me that there wasn't even a suggestion in the introduction, I didn't feel I could justify knocking down the rating.

I'd recommend this to anyone interested in getting started in beyond basic meal prep (chopping some veggies or prepping salad for the week). The recipes look tasty and well seasoned, and I think they would appeal to vegan and non-vegan alike.

This book has absolutely everything I want from a recipe book. I am a reluctant cook with a gluten sensitive tummy so I was thrilled with how easy this book made cooking. It provides you with a shopping list, clear instructions and clearly shows information such as allergies and calorie counts. I wish all cook books were like this. It takes almost any sort of thinking out of the task and lets you enjoy the process of cooking and eating the meals!

Firstly this book is colourful, well set out and shows mouth watering dishes all Vegan style.
The book shows at the beginning what equipment and cupboard essentials you will need to use it effectively. Each weekly menu has a shopping list and a set of prepping instructions to follow and covers breakfast, lunch, snacks and tea time in each weekly menu. The book also lists mix and match menus and singular menus too so it covers meals not only for familys but for individuals too.
I really enjoyed this and can't wait to put some of the menus into practice and prep too.

Vegan Yack Attack’s Plant-Based Meal Prep is the perfect gift for a vegan in your life or for yourself. It is filled with beautiful photos and great recipes. The layout of the book and the recipes are easy to follow. I love the organization of the meal prep- grocery lists, weekly plans, and step-by step instructions to make your meal prepping as efficient as possible. I’ve already made the rice pudding and big batch of the vegetable scrap broth to start my winter off right!

Vegan Yack Attack's Plant-Based Meal Prep is a tutorial and recipe guide for meal-prep based on a vegan diet. Due out 7th Jan 2020 from Quarto on their Fair Winds Press imprint, it's 176 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

There have been a lot of times when I've come home from work and literally had no plan for dinner and a not-inspiring collection of ingredients and no idea what to cook for my family (we usually wind up with takeout food in those cases). I've been familiar for ages with the concept of once-a-month-cooking and meal planning and prep, but it always seemed to take a lot more organizational skills than I honestly have. I'm sort of an extreme case of course, but I wanted to read this book and see if I could get some tips I could use to be more food prep organized.

This book is certainly organized. The first ~7% of the page content covers the introduction, definitions and concepts involved in meal prep, along with lists of very basic kitchen utensils and storage items. There are also lists of staples with quantities to have on hand for maximum efficiency.

My main interest personally in food prep is to take care of my 5 day work-week lunchtimes. I work in a hospital lab and it's just so convenient to eat at the cafeteria which is generally full of high fat, calorie dense, carbohydrate laden food with almost zero plant based options. This book contains 6 sample weekly lunchtime meal prep menus for one which are -perfect- for my lunch-box problem.

The recipes are well illustrated and appealing. This is a huge bonus for me. Ingredient measurements are supplied in American and standard (metric) measurements. The nutritional information: fat, carbs, protein content are listed for the recipes as well as serving sizes. Extra tips or recipe alternatives are listed in sidebars with the recipes. The recipes themselves are fairly straightforward and are made with easily sourced ingredients. Many are very simple, none of them are overly complex.

This is a beautifully presented very well organized book. I would definitely recommend it to any of my friends who are looking to make their food prep even more efficient and vegan friendly. Once a week cooking can be made family friendly, and the authors have included mix-and-match recipes so that these meals can be incorporated into a family style meal environment. These would also work very well for singles or for one person (or whole family) following a plant based diet.

I think this is the second book I’ve read by the author. It’s full of good tips for those who are looking to eat more plant based options. It starts with tips on meal prep - what you can cook ahead, how to do that, how to store it. Etc. It then moves onto recipes that show you how to mix and match from the foods you prepped.

The recipe sections are:

- Mix and Match Menus

- Beautiful Breakfasts

- Bunches of Lunches

- Array of entrees

- Higher-Protein Meals

- Sheet Pan, Instant Pot, and Freezer Meals.

- Kid-Friendly Foods

The final section covers snacks and staples like sauces and seasoning mixes.

The last cookbook I reviewed was full of family friendly recipes to go more meatless. This one is full of meal prep ideas for me alone! My boys are not interested in going plant based, but this is a great compilation of relatively easy recipes that I could batch cook to have breakfasts and lunches on hand - my own home based meal service. I’m going to be the best fed teacher in the faculty room! Five stars for solo cooks... with some ideas here for couples and families.

This cookbook is probably more for the intermediate meal prepper but there are still some really simple recipes that don't have a lot of ingredients and can easily be made for days that are really busy or the reader is more on the go. There are options for the family but also some geared towards kids and quite a variety of options.

This is a great book for new and long term vegans or those looking to eat more plant-based meals. Often times, meal-prepping can seem tricky, but this takes so much work out of the task. I tried the weekly meal plans and they were great. for keeping me on track with healthy and sustainable eating. I didn't have to stress about what I was going to take to lunch for work, or what I would eat once I got home. Another bonus is that the ingredients are very easy to find at local grocery stores which are always nice to see in any vegan cookbooks. I will definitely be incorporating these meals into my weeks. Highly recommend!

I find meal prepping hard with my busy life, being a mom and a wife. However, with this book, I find myself actually interested in meal prepping! Vegan Yack Attacks Plant Based Meal Prep takes all the guesswork out with all the tools needed to get started. With the grocery lists, meal plans and easily accessible ingredients I find this book very appealing.The meal prep portion of this book is spot on. The way this book is laid out makes meal prepping a breeze for even the beginner.

When browsing cookbooks, my first go to is color… Does the pictures look enticing enough to eat? Does this book give an array of colorful foods to keep you healthy? I have to say, this book hits that mark for me. With all the colorful pages, I find myself choosing this book over others. Especially with the actually pictures of the food you will make.

When Making my selection of cookbooks I find that most cookbooks lack the knowledge of how long the food you make, stays good. While I chose this book to review, I didn’t expect this book to be anything different. But, little to my surprise this book delivered on what I wasn't expecting. At the end of the direction, it offers storing instructions. I also find the nutritional analysis a HUGE plus as I often don’t purchase cookbooks without this information that I find vital for any cookbook.

My only con would be, even though the recipes are very appealing, most of them require a grain. I would’ve loved to have found a larger selection of grain- free recipes.

Over all, I give this cookbook 5 stars.★★★★★ One of the best ones I have found in a long time.

Mmmmm!! This is such a colourful, non-preachy approach perfect for newbie meal preppers, vegans, veggies and carnivores alike, as well as seasoned pros to prepping.
I am one of the aforementioned newbies, a non vegan but very occasional meat eater, having spent 9 years a vegetarian, I often lean towards meat free meals.
I love how this book uses easy to follow instructions, and plenty of tips for substituting ingredients and mixing an matching sides and sauces. As a British reader living in Italy, we can't easily get some of the ingredients mentioned but it is easy enough to sub them out for other things, or tweak the recipes.
The instructions are very clear and it is easy to find the ideal recipes that you can make even a week in advance, some you can freeze, others don't even need refrigerating at all! There are also hints about meal prepping for one person or for the family. I don't tend to take packed lunches to work, but I find that the recipes are useful for preparing dinners in bulk ahead of time. Even if you aren't planning to 'meal prep' per se, this is a great selection of vegan-friendly recipes for dinner parties as the yields are quite large. Of course you can easily change the amounts to suit you and your needs.
As part of my 2020 resolution to live more naturally - meaning more fresh cooking from scratch and home grown herbs, this little guide will be by my side!

Brilliant book - recommend it to as many people as you can think of.
Veganuary is coming up so anyone who thinks cooking healthy home-made (and yes, vegan) meals takes too long can get this.
Some ingredients take a bit of getting used to and beginners should definitely start with the easy recipes, but other than that it is easy to follow, delicious, and most of all practical.
I like having meals ready and for one person it feels like a lot of work to cook every day so this is perfect!

My husband and I have been struggling to meal prep and cook at home, and this book was just what we needed! Although we are not vegan, we still found many of the recipes in this book to be very healthy, nutritious, and delicious. We would just grill some chicken to add on for our protein. This book is a great starting point for those struggling to meal prep and stick with it!

This is a phenomenal book for anyone interested in meal prep ideas for a healthy, plant-based diet! The recipes are relatively simple with basic ingredients. I especially look forward to making the Summer Veggie-Stuffed Potatoes, Creamy Avocado Tahini Zoodles and Savory Ris-Oat-O.

I loved this book. I find meal prep such a tiresome task but I loved the layout of the menus in this book. All the thinking is there for you so you're just left with the cooking. Some really nice vegan ideas that I hadn't seen before.

This is just what I would expect from Vegan Yack Attack's Jackie Sobon - the cookbook has beautiful pictures, the recipes are clear and easy to follow, and it is very well organized. Sample menu ideas, a kid-friendly section (that never happens), and desserts?! I've died and gone straight to heaven! I am a very visual person with food, so I was very happy to see a picture of the finished product is included with every recipe. I cannot wait for this to come out in print!

Let's start with the positives about this cookbook and there are many. First, it is very smartly organized, including a section that provides recipes according to a weekly meal plan so as to cut costs and eliminate waste. It also clearly labels which recipes require minimal time to fix, are appropriate for persons with lower cooking skill level, contain nuts, are gluten free, etc. So there is no need to search the list of ingredients of every recipe to make sure it does not contain a possible food allergen to which you or a family member may react. The book also contains sections that focus on a particular meal, such as breakfast. There is also an introductory section explaining for those who may have only recently adopted a plant-based diet what staples they should keep in their pantry and what basic equipment is ideal to have.

My criticism (which may not be a criticism at all for some readers, since obviously what strikes a person as appealing is a matter of taste) is that I simply did not find many of the recipes very appealing, and when photos did accompany a particular recipe, they did nothing to change this first impression. I say this not as a meat eater, but as someone who has eaten a plant-based diet for over 30 years. Certainly, they looked healthy, but they also looked boring and very often lacking in color (too many brown and green ingredients). And again, this is just my perspective. More concerning to me is that the book did not include nutritional information. Given that so many people worry about getting sufficient nutrients from a strictly plant-based diet, I think it is important to include this information, so as to debunk the myth that a plant-based diet cannot provide enough protein, etc. It would also be nice if it included caloric information, as many people who currently are rethinking their consumption of meat are doing so in order to lose weight and improve their health. And I know from experience that not all vegan options are necessarily lower in calories or even low in sodium.

I think that this cookbook may please many, especially given its utilitarian organization. But just not my cup of tea in terms of recipe offerings.

Although I am neither a full-time vegan nor a regular meal prepper, I enjoyed this book very much. I especially love the emphasis on cooking for one in the early part of the book. Solo eaters often eat randomly and without a lot of thought. This book is an excellent encouragement to eat food that is both healthy and tasty. The recipes look fantastic. I'm especially excited to try the zucchini noodles with tahini avocado sauce. The recipes are quick and easy but relatively interesting. I wish the book contained suggestions about how to reheat meals.

I enjoyed the concept of this cookbook immensely. As a young family of 5, we are constantly on the go and always looking for ways to make eating healthy easier. This book certainly would help with that. The only issue I really had is that we're not actually vegan, so I found myself adapting some of the recipes to our more paleo way of living. This created a little extra work, but wasn't too bad. I mean, it's really my fault since the book is obviously vegan! And some of the recipes ran a tad pricey for us. My kids enjoyed several of the recipes we tried and I enjoyed finding new ways to "hide" veggies and make healthy meals in advance. All in all I would recommend this book to those looking to find new ways to eat healthy.

For someone who hasn’t eaten red meat for nearly 20 years and genuinely attempting to give up chicken and fish, any way of increasing my vegetarian (or vegan) intake is always welcomed. Fortunately, this book is a great addition to those I have previously bought, providing some nice recipes which can always be prepared exactly how the author details or throw in some of your own ideas specific to your tastes.

One good thing with Jackie Sobon’s book is that, as the title suggests there are instructions on preparing meals and snacks for the week which is always a huge benefit if you do not have the time to prepare meals like these daily.

A great book with healthy recipes and nutritional analysis for those who watch their macros.

When making the transition to a vegan way of life, it can be tough. This book makes it easier.
I was excited when I saw this book, because I have the author's pervious book, when is fantastic.
There are many great recipes and guides for prepping tasty vegan dishes in this book. Like a plug and play for eating. Highly recommended!

This book is great for vegans, both new and experienced. I loved all the colourful pictures because I feel that's what draws me into a recipe. The prepping tips were really helpful for me when batch cooking and although I didn't try many recipes, the ones I did were great. I love that most are whole food plant based. There are easy to see labels for oil-free, gluten-free, nut-free, sugar-free etc, as well as cook times (under 10 minutes, etc.) and freezer friendly. This allowed me to easily see what recipes I would like or would want to skip. I look forward to trying more recipes!

Really well thought out book. I enjoyed the recipes enough that I decided to purchase this one.

The recipes are different and original, but simple. The Dill Roasted Chickpeas with Potato Wedges was delicious. The shopping lists contained ingredients that were easily obtained at most local supermakets, even ones in smaller towns.

Everything was organized and easy to understand. I only had one small criticism. I don't do complicated breakfasts. I make some overnight oats with some dried fruit, or some granola. A lot of people are the same about quick uncomplicated breakfasts. I wish she had separated the shopping list, with the breakfast ingredients in a separate category. It didn't affect my rating because it was small flaw in a really great cookbook.

I did have to cut down the proportions because I am single person, but that was easy. Everything worked well, and tasted great. I was able to easily put away a week of meals without a lot of work.

The cleanup was also easy. I didn't make a lot of mess in the kitchen.

This one is a keeper.

Now this is my kind of cook book!

I like to mix up my lunch meals week on week as I hate having the same thing repeatedly. I had started to run out of ideas but this cook book has really added in some amazing new lunches to try and lays it out in an easy way for me to get organised! It has shopping lists and plans the meals out so you can make them in advanced if you need to. The smoky sweet potato soup is as good as it looks!

This cookbook is very informative and user friendly. The book contains recipes for people who have never done meal prep as well as some for those who have specific preferences. It also states macros which is super helpful.
The only thing I don’t like is that some of these ingredients are difficult to get at the store or are kind of expensive.
All in all I would definitely recommend this book to everyone (even if you aren’t vegan).

Vegan Yack Attack’s Plant-Based Meal Prep

Meal planning is something I have always wanted to try. I remember having the calendar out, allotting two days each week to husband, daughter and son and letting them choose the menu for the days that were theirs but it never lasted long. I know that planning is supposed to save time but so far have always found the organizational skills lacking or time lacking or whatever.

I believe THIS book would be beneficial to any number of plant-based vegan eaters who would like to begin planning meals for one or an entire family. The information is succinct about how to set yourself up for success and includes information on how to choose meals, where to find the recipes in the book, how to create a shopping list, what to put the food into for best storage, a four week planning device (again with recipes and page numbers) and plenty of delicious recipes to plunk into a planning grid when you are ready to begin.

The recipes that grabbed my interest were:
* Lemon-rosemary chickpea pasta casserole
* Naked seitan picata
* Peanut butter pancake sandwiches
* Shakshuka (really would love to try making those “eggs”)
* More than one snack/dessert
* Lentil walnut sausage crumbles (though I can’t find some of the ingredients where I live)
* More than one dressing/sauce

My only quibble is that more than one of these recipes requires an item I cannot find in local grocery stores but if I lived where I could find those ingredients I would make quite a few of the recipes in this book and give meal planning and prepping a try.
