New insight into the Cosa Nostra, June 6, 2012 By Ronald E. Rivkin "mensch" (Calabasas, CA United States) - I Siciliani: (The Sicilians) (Hardcover) In I Siciliani, Lou Quattro brings authentic understanding to the traditions of power, influence and control behind the Cosa Nostra in Sicily. It's really in contrast to the corruption of the new 'mob' in America and how it has twisted the original traditions and constructive values to their communities in Sicily. They did serve an important purpose originally.
In America they devolved into the gangsters that we see in the movies. I'm a fan of "Godfather" and Mario Puzo's vision.Lou Quattro on the other hand gives the reader another perspective on these Goodguys in Italy. I Siciliani is thought provoking work from someone who sounds like they 'know'. It's a slightly different sociological perspective. Very enjoyable. A good story while being revealing, 'real' and educational as well. Hope this becomes a movie.
5.0 out of 5 stars Greed, corruption & power in idylic Tuscany, May 25, 2012 By Alan Gee - I Siciliani (Kindle Edition) I SicilianiI was given this book to read by a friend, and I wasn't expecting too much from this first time author. But the book became compelling and a real page-tuner.
We've all heard about greed and corruption in Italy, most notably from the south - the home of the Mafia, Cosa Nostra et al. But in Tuscany?
When the honest mayor of the small town of Campannori near Lucca was seen taking a bribe in the parking lot of a Supermarket, everyone assumed the worst. He would lose the upcoming election, power and influence would shift and he would be disgraced. But was it all that it seemed to be?
Antonio Lombardi was with the carabiniere, the police force in what seemed to him a dead end job. He know the mayor, Giacomo Morelli well and coulnd't believe he was corrupt. For Lombardi this was the opportunity he needed to get out from behind his desk for once in his life and do some real detective work. With his diligent digging and his desire for justice Lombardi uncovers lies and cover-ups worthy of the best of Sicily... and in so doing realizes that the links from there to Tuscany are closer than he thought.
Lou Quattro does a fabulous job with this his first novel.
It looks like he's a name to look out for in the future!
