Take It Away, Tommy!

A really cute story about some kitty antics. As a crazy cat lady, I thought it was a really cute book.

Just as adorable as the first book, which I recommend is read before this book so the reader knows who all the cats are. If you have a cat this is a must read! This will be a must buy for my library and I will booktalk this book as much as I did the first.

A fun and inviting text, fit for the classroom shelf. I’m glad I had the chance to read this creative story and would gladly share it with others.

The Breaking Cat News team is at it again!

I love the sections that provide a cat perspective on everyday life. "Vacuum Cleaner Preparednes." What to do (more like what NOT to do, I guess) when a cactus comes to live in the home. Cats & Christmas trees.

And, this book did send me down a rabbit hole looking up videos of cats and cucumbers. There's a reason the internet is full of cat videos.

I love Breaking Cat News! I used to read it in web comic form but it was so hard to keep track of where I was. For years I have been hoping they would make them into books. I am so glad that they are continuing to put them in book form!

Breaking Cat news is a comic that is great for any age. It is about 3 indoor cats that have a news cast about everything that goes on in the apartment. Along the way they meet new friends that help them as special correspondents in other apartments or outside. It is funny and endearing. I would recommend it to everyone who needs a lighthearted read to get them through the day!

I really love these comics. I might have gotten a little ready when the ghost cat was buried next to her owner. This is a fun graphic novel series for kids and cat lovers.

Tommy and the kitty gang at the Breaking Cat News station have done it again. This is the third book in the Breaking Cat News graphic novel series, and the humor from books one and two continues. The cats relate news about their family, as well as remotely broadcasting about happenings in the neighborhood. In this volume, they meet a neighboring Barn Cat whose specialty is AV, and he assists them in their broadcasts. This is a quick and enjoyably humorous read, and readers of any age will appreciate the kitty humor, whether or not they are cat owners or cat fanciers.

The Breaking Cat News felines are here with more news to keep you informed. In this collection they share about a ghostly feline who keeps showing up looking for someone, they have a run-in with a local mouse gang at Christmas, and assorted other little adventures mixed in.

I liked the Christmas comics story line the best out of this collection. It has a good message and some funny cats at Christmas things woven in. There are a couple new cats introduced to the feline crowd from the neighborhood as well as some recurring fictional ones in a TV series that various critters are rather into. Those who don’t like ghost stories may want to skip the first part of this book. It isn’t really scary, but it does make ghosts seem real to the people and cats in the comics. Overall, it’s a cute and humorous comics collection perfect for cat lovers middle grade on up.

Notes on content [based on ARC]: No language issues or sexual content. As mentioned there’s a ghost story and it is stated there was a past accident that resulted in a sudden death. (No gory details.)

Also had great fun reading the sections covering Thanksgiving and Christmas. The extra goodies at the end include paper dolls, a fun rock craft, and a colorful apartment layout. A great addition to the BCN series!

I freaking love everything Georgia Dunn does! This is such a clever concept. I don't know if my favorite segment was the ghost cat, robbers or the Soap Opera. (Can't wait to see the rest of that soap opera!)

The blurb might say these books are for middle grade readers but I have been a fanatical fan and loyal daily reader of the strip since stumbling upon it when I got a chance to review the first book “Breaking Cat News” four years ago. Since then, the strip has gone into syndication and creator Georgia Dunn has been gradually reworking some of the older material for the new format. However, some of the story arcs just weren’t going to work as well. This book has some fan favorites such as the long requested “Ghost Cat in the Big Pink House” and the original Pucky’s Perfect Christmas Tips that introduced the four incorrigible Robber Mice. Then there is the beloved “Our IX Lives” cat soap opera (brought to you by Yummy Nom Nom Kitty Treats) complete with heroic and roguish Kit Chase trying to win the paw of the rich Angora Taggart (cue DRAMATIC MUSIC). Puck has been addicted for a long time but Elvis is only slowly beginning to watch it. The Ceiling Cats as well as cat-about-town reporter Tommy in his trademark Hawaiian shirt plus his friend artist Sophie (who works in mixed modern media style with “found objects”) and AV cat Burt are all there, too. Dive into the world from the cats’ point of view but for best understanding, starting back at the beginning is probably best. A-

In hard-hitting news format, the cats of Breaking Cat News bring stories of how to avoid the vacuum, and the cat (and litter) shortages. A new audio tech has joined the team and set up in the basement. There is also the story of a mysterious ghost cat that is lingering around the house.

This is a fun series, but at the 3rd volume, some of the bits feel like ones I've read before. I still think it's fun though and I love the fun activities that are included with each volume.

This is a hilarious graphic novel, with cats reporting on the news.

The cats report on various issues in the house, including a ghost, holidays, and a kidnapping of a toy mouse. Their perspectives on human actions were so funny. They insisted on fixing a man’s hair once he got a haircut by licking his head. They had the common enemy of the vacuum cleaner, who they tried to become friends with despite the danger. They also got into any food that was left around the house.

There were some cute crafts at the end of the book. One idea was to make pet rocks for anyone who can’t have a pet cat. Another craft was paper dolls of the characters that could be cut out of the back of the book.

This book was so funny! It’s a great gift for anyone who loves cats!

Breaking Cat News is a webcomic that has been running on the GoComics website since 2014. It follows three cats, Elvis, Lupin and Puck, intrepid reporters broadcasting from their downstairs apartment of a Victorian home that was converted into apartments. Sharing their home are The Man, The Woman, The Toddler, and The Baby, as well other cats inside and outside their home, all reporting on “the news important to cats.”

Our three news reporters, Elvis, Lupin, and Puck, are joined by field correspondent Tommy as they report on the pressing news of the day: bacon on the breakfast table, a new cat in the backyard, fuzzy blanket season, as well as some seasonal hijinks at Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

It should come as no surprise I loved this book. But it’s not just because I love cats. This book is genuinely funny. The three main cats, Elvis, Lupin, and Puck are so full of personality. Elvis is very protective and like all Siamese has a high opinion of himself. Lupin is the main anchor and the upbeat, outgoing member of the team. Puck is the shy, quiet one who really just wants everyone to get along. All three of them are so endearing, whether it’s Puck seeing ghosts, Elvis indignant about a cat outside, or Lupin getting paint all over himself and the rest of the apartment. I had several laugh-out-loud moments just watching these three.

Adding to the cast is Tommy, a big fluffy cat who lives in the apartment next door and likes to go outside, and his roommate, Sophia, who doesn’t care for him too much. He constantly tries to be her friend, while she firmly rebuffs him, which he accepts quite cheerfully. Tabitha and Figaro are cats that live upstairs and don’t appear much in this volume, but Tabitha apparently has a rivalry with Elvis. Burt, the newest addition, is a barn cat that isn’t as interested in reporting as working behind the scenes in AV, linking the cats’ broadcasts for live feeds as well as pre-recorded segments.

While several of the stories are short, lasting one to two pages, there are a few longer ones. For Halloween, a ghost cat appears that only Lupin can see, and the humans discover the bittersweet story of the original owner of the house, Winifred Quinn, and the fate of her cat Matilda. There is also an extended story for Christmas, involving robber mice and Puck’s friend Buzzy Mouse. This one had a lot of humor but ends on a touching note.

I can’t recommend this book or series enough. The news stories the cats report are funny, especially if you have or have known a cat. Out of litter and kibble? No toilet paper for the People! Vacuum Cleaner Preparedness? Every cat should be aware! There is also a TV soap opera the cats (and mice) watch, Our IX Lives, which is everything you would think it is. The book also includes some activities, such as paper dolls that can be printed out, and painting rocks to look like the cats. There are three books in this series so far, and every one of them belongs in a middle school library or graphic novel collection. It’s also a great book for a “feel good” list of comics.
