A bunch of oddball characters, each chasing their own dream, try to carve a place for themselves in neo-gothic American South.

Sally Hinson could have guessed that his business partner would leave him a heap of trouble along with their real estate holdings, but not that his partner’s last shady deal would see him competing with a growing group of oddballs, and their unusual dog, for a once-useless piece of land that now holds the key to each of their unique “American Dreams.” Determined scientist, Kat; anxious and unemployed expectant-father, Livingston; a pair of young weed-dealers; and aspiring reality television star Brittany and her doting but far from docile grandmother, all stand between Sally and the deal of a lifetime. But is it the deal of his dreams?

Kevin Winchester lives in North Carolina and holds an MFA from Queens University. His story, “Waiting on Something to Happen,” won the 2013 Thomas Wolfe Fiction Prize. Other work has appeared in Tin House, Gulf Coast, Barren Magazine, StorySouth, Barrelhouse, Dead Mule, and the anthologies Everything But the Baby and Making Notes: Music of the Carolinas. His short story collection, Everybody’s Gotta Eat, was published in 2009. He currently teaches writing at Wingate University. When he’s not writing, teaching, or hanging with his family, he’s hiking, playing music, or riding his Harley.
