Guilty Knowledge

Sariah walks into the police department and asks to speak to the investigators in charge of a recent murder. Detectives Jesse Aaron and Camille Farris are not quite sure what to make of her.

She claims to have seen the killer .. in a vision. She knows his first name. She also knows who his next victim will be. Does she have a gift .. or did she actually witness a crime and is afraid to admit it? And to top things off ... the man she identified has been dead for several years.

Sariah comes across as this sweet, honest, butter wouldn't melt in her mouth innocence. But she has secrets. And while Detective Aaron is attracted to her, he is also wary of believing her story. Aaron's partner is loud, argumentative, rude ... jealous, maybe?

The plot is tightly woven, characters are deftly drawn. There are some surprising twists and turns leading to a surprising conclusion. No cliffhanger here .. but there does remain for another book in the future.

Honestly I wasn't paying enough attention and thought this was a book by Laura Griffin who is an author I love but since I do like romantic suspense and psychic characters I was excited to start this and see if I stumbled on a new favorite author.

The book has potential and I did love the concept of the book but it does stumble somewhat along the way. Sariah reports a murder that she saw in a vision to Detective Jesse Aaron. Jesse is of course skeptic when he finds out she claims she saw it in a vision but wonders if she just doesn't want to admit to actually witnessing a murder. He is attracted to her but Sariah has secrets that he discovers along the way. Jessie's partner is even more skeptical and warns Jesse not to get involved with Sariah.

The romance in this book just didn't work for me and I didn't feel the chemistry between the two. The flirty dialogue between the two felt forced and out of place. Sariah is a very complex character with so many issues/problems that it overshadows the romance.

The mystery was okay but at times the background information about the relevant religion and all the customs was clunky and I found myself skimming it a bit. Overall I felt this author did more telling than showing.
