This was absolutely adorable 😍 Loved seeing all the different personalities and issues being worked through, and this was quick and light and fluffy. The art was super cute and was what lead me to request it, but seeing these animals struggle with loving themselves, anxiety and being good friends with lots of coffee was just what I needed
Review to be posted on Blog/Goodreads in May 2020.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I love comics and in these harsh times (I read this one in March when we were all stuck inside due to Corona) I could use some laughter and some fun. I spotted this book and of course had to grab it to read it. A comic about a cat with a cafe? Coffee jokes and more? Sign me up!
But this book is actually much more than just a cat with his cafe, more than customers with a very heavy coffee addiction (really, some of these animals need to lay off the coffee for a while). This is also about anxiety, friendship, setting goals for yourself and conquering them, dreams, making friends and being there for your friends, compliments, love. There is still enough coffee and cafe, but there is also plenty of that other stuff. And sure, on the one hand I loved it, but on the other hand I came here for coffee and cats. So I am a bit conflicted. Don't get me wrong I love the stuff that takes place outside of the coffee shop, but I hope it is understandable that I am also a tad sad that it isn't just about a coffeeshop owned by a cat.
We meet various animals that live in the world. We see various fun friendships begin, dreams be made (and I loved the sea star and his girlfriend), I loved that this world has such an abundance of different animals. From alpacas to armadillos to snakes and gators (who had a crush on our coffee cat), this world is never once boring. There are also various seasons and I loved seeing our animals do all sorts of things in each season.
But yeah, my feelings are still a bit over the place, I thought this book would cheer me up, give me a smile at the end, maybe some big belly laughs, but given it also has enough sad feelings and anxiety and tears... It didn't really help out. Still I had fun reading it, and I loved the art style it is really cute.
Cat's Cafe is an adorable collection filled with endearing characters and bright, fun illustrations. Cat and friends may all have their own problems to deal with, but they offer each other support along the way and teach each other some valuable lessons. No one's life is perfect, but it's better with good coffee and good friends.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy.
This was super wholesome, cute, funny, marvelous, adorable, fantastic, etc
But in all seriousness I recommend to anyone who needs to unwind to give this comic a go because for sure you won't regret. It deals with depression, anxiety and other social problems in such a wholesome way. The humor of this book is also great. Everything is perfect.
Just do it! Read it!
This series of webcomics is a heartwarming take on our dependencies on coffee and how we can support each other going through our mental health struggles. The art is adorable, which adds to the heartwarming nature of the book. Each page acts as a single page comic panel, but throughout the book, there are connecting storylines with some characters. Some panels ask you to examine your own mental health as well. There is a recurring cast of animals, most of which ends up having a few panels specifically on them. Overall, this book is really cute and something that I may read once or gift to a friend.
I received a review copy by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I didn't know this comic series and I'm in love with it. Cat has their own café and serves delicious coffee to the people in town. The style is adorable and each character is unique. I love how the stories can go from funny and cute to serious but in a way that never feels exploitative.
Sometimes people feel a little down and need support and the comic shows not only the good days but the bad ones as well, presenting ways to cope with mental health problems. Also, they town's people support each other and their so full of love.
Absolutely adorable and heart-felt. I enjoyed this immensely and I'm going to buy my own copy. It's jsut so good, enjoyable, and heartwarming. <3
Cat's Cafe is a lovely and uplifting collection of comics that presents different tones, situations and resolutions with a wonderful balance of sensitivity and understanding. The art style, use of colour and vast of characters are full of life and heart.

This was the most adorable and heart warming thing that I have ever read.
This dealt with mental illness in such a positive and beautiful way, with advice and friendship and this was just absolutely amazing.
I’m so thankful that I got to read this early.
5/5 ⭐️
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Such a cute and uplifting comic! With everything that is going on right now, I needed to hear these uplifting words and phrases. It portrays a life that I wish and we could try to live in the real world.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my copy to read and review.
I never knew about this comic series before reading this and I am in love with it. It's like a cuteness overload! The art is so cute and colorful. Every character is unique. Penguin and Bunny were my favorites. I related to Bunny the most. I have anxiety issues as well as depression. I loved that this comic could be really light and funny to really serious without being inconsiderate to people with mental illnesses. It really showed you that you didnt have to go through things alone and that someone will always be there for whether you believe it or not even on your good days. I think everyone would enjoy this comic it's such a heart felt and funny read. I will most definitely be getting me a copy whenever it comes out. I hope they continue making more of this comic.
This is frigging cute and gave me all the warm fuzzies.
Cat has a Cafe where all the animals gather, not only for their coffee but also for company, help and affirmation. The customers are as different as possible: from beetles over elephants to snakes, and even a hearing impaired person communicating with sign language.
Despite being a comic strip style book, this one has character developement. Another nice addition are suggested exercises for self love that are embedded in the story.
I want moooorree.
I recieved a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This set of comics was absolutely adorable. I’m not even a car lover and this was cute! I love the illustrations and how it incorporates all kinds of animals. Coffee lovers will enjoy this one too. It’s light and relatable even. Gives you chances to smile and laugh. The sloth one was me. All day. I highly recommend this for something cute, light, and guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
I absolutely adored this comic book filled with different encounters with the sweet characters that live around Cat’s cafe. My personal favorites were existential crisis duck and platypus mailman. It was funny and sweet.
I received a free digital copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
I was not prepared for how cute and utterly heartwarming this book would be. I loved it! I love how it addresses different issues like anxiety and depression.
I love the different characters. Penguin the hardcore coffee fanatic. Gator, shyly in love with Cat. (I'm rooting for them in the next book). Then there's the deeply anxious Bunny and the aggressively happy Armadillo. Can't wait for the next book!
I randomly stumbled across Cat's Cafe comics on the interwebs and fell in love with the adorable critters and their friendships. I am not one for positive platitudes and motivational witticisms, but there's something about the presentation in this comic that just makes me so happy-sad.
Each critter has their own mental health issue, but their friends are always there to help them feel better, whether it's cheering them up, making them coffee, or just crying with them, with no judgement--just lots of coffee. If only society was more like anthropomorphic animal worlds!
This is a must read for anyone who loves cute animal comics in general, and who needs to have a book they can dip into from time to time for some cute-therapy and some positive wisdom.
Positively addictive content pulled from the popular webcomic, starring cute animals with caffeine habits, pondering their existences and going about their lives. Try it, you'll like it!
*Disclaimer: I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
As you can probably tell from the cover, Cat's Cafe is an adorable comic collection full of cute characters and great messages. It is very much focused around mental wellbeing and friendship which is nice to see.
I really enjoyed this. I think it would be a good introduction to comics for readers of any age and the fact that it had me relating to tiny animal characters makes me want to recommend it. I think if you are needing something to cheer you up, which many people do right now, this is a great one to read.
3 out of 5 stars!
A big thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me an advanced copy of this book for my review. I really enjoyed reading this one!
Firstly, I have to say the main thing that stood out for me was the love and positive messages depicted in each page! Most, if not all, the panels are filled with so much love and heartwarming tales and feel good vibes.
The illustrations are simple but very cute and pleasing. Initially I thought the stories would be boring and repetitious because the book is 160 pages and each story is just a one page humorous snippet of what happens in the coffee shop. But surprisingly, the stories are very quirky and innovative, and ranges from the different type of customers who come in for their brew to the different situations they find themselves in. The creatures themselves range outside your typical land critters to dragons, octopus, and what not. The author also covers a wide range of topics like love, friendship, anxiety, depression and stress.
The only thing which I felt a little odd was the order in which the author arranged the stories. Initially I thought all the panels would center on the café or be coffee themed. But some of the stories just divert to random characters and focus on their daily activities. For example, rabbit having fun jumping in the rain puddles or lying on the grass and seeing the clouds. Don’t get me wrong. I loved reading these as well but I just felt it was odd to include it in this book. Perhaps they could have released a separate book just for these characters and story-lines outside the café?
Overall, I really enjoyed reading Cat’s Café! I have never read the web series prior to reading this, but I have subscribed to the website and am loving the new updates! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to read a simple feel good book without any negativity in it.
This was cute! I really liked the art style of these comics and I thought the shorts were good too. I hope to read more things like this soon!!
This was surprisingly a cute book! On the surface it has comics with cute animal characters. But some pages have comics where it digs deeper and pulls out real emotion. I found myself being able to identify with some of the animals, and I think that's great! The book is full of smiles and even some legitimate laughs.
Such a cute collection of comics with adorable characters! Positive messages are littered throughout the story, and it provides such a cute and uplifting story.
So cute and wholesome little comics! Tackling big things like social anxiety, insecurities, and depression, this comic series has a lot of sweet warm-fuzzy moments with adorably-drawn animals <3
I adore these comics! A little bit of humour, a little bit of positivity, and a whole lot of cute! I think the small messages are really great and it’s a wonderful book for kids and adults to smile with.
In this comic based around the lives of animals who interact daily with each other at Cats Café, we see how mental health is the base line and how anxiety, stress, lack of self love etc all effect the adorable animals and how they help build each other up and become friends with each other.
A book showing how a little kindness can go a long loving way I relate most to the anxious bunny especially on the anxiety reducing headphones part, that's totally me!
Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!
Cat’s Cafe is heartwarming and so so cute. At first, I thought this was just a cutesy feel-good type of book, but if you look closer, you can definitely start to see yourself in some of the animals and everything starts to have a deeper meaning. I personally related to the rabbit lol because of how anxious it was to do everything correctly while trying to be social. I loved all of the different characters and their personalities. Personally, my favorite was penguin and its love for coffee haha.
Cat's Cafe is a delightfully sweet and fluffy comic that revolves around a cat who owns a cafe. It's filled with lovable creatures that each have their own strong personalities and some have their own neuroses. It's filled with acceptance, self care and above all spreading love and positivity with a hot cup of coffee.
Every comic is sure to brighten your day or give you something to think about. Broaching tough topics such as depression, loneliness, anxiety and existential crisis with cute creatures and optimism.
I recommend this 100%. The art is adorable and the message is sweet.
What an absolute joy! There is a warmth and softness to this book that everyone could benefit from. I’m so happy to be introduced to Tarpley’s work through this book.
These were so adorable and very needed in a time like now. I don't typically read comics, but the title caught my eye, of course. In this weird time we're in, I figured something cute and out of my realm would be nice. I giggled out loud several times. Totally enjoyed this!
I would honestly rate this higher if I could cause I LOVED IT. This is a graphic novel composed of comics about a cat who owns a cafe and his life with all his friends and customers. It also discusses mental illness in a really lighthearted yet honest and subtle way. There’s also little fun activities to do throughout the book. Every comic made me smile and I could relate to almost the entire book. This is honestly just such a heartwarming and inspirational read so I highly recommend it to Every. Single. Person. Everybody could use a case of warm and floofies!
I adore this sweet cartoon collection. Cat runs such a helpful cafe for his many featured friends, who each also are the subjects of some of their own cartoons. Coffee lovers will enjoy the many coffee themed strips as Cat takes care of his customers.
This book touches on some universal feelings and truths with its warm humor. I highly recommend it. I feel so much better for visiting Cat's care.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.
Love the drawings, the theme and the message. The art is very cute and the reading light, all the characters are adorable with their unique personalities. This book deals with anxiety, mental issues and struggles we all have in some way. And in the end, all comes to coffee, the cat is always there to deliver coffee to everyone and in a funny way too. Not only is funny but it also inspires and shows motivational phrases. Adorable and heart-warming comics.
This is a very cute comic collection and I really had a great time reading through it. The art style is simple and cute with great colors. I absolutely loved all the different animal characters, specifically Axel the Axolotl!
Although it's very cute and fun it does have overtones of more serious topics like depression.
I can't wait to get a physical copy for my library. And also share it with friends and family
Thanks to net galley and publisher's for the opportunity to read and review this book!
This is a cute book about friendship, positive mental health and a group of animal friends looking out for each other. It was fun and had great messages, but it was a little too cute- bordering on cheesy- when I read it all in one go. It would probably be more enjoyable to dip into it now and again, rather than read it cover to cover.
This book took me by surprise. I was expecting something cute and heartwarming - which this book very much is - but this book also has a great message about lifting those around us up and is full of positive messages.
There is some most representation for mental health issues throughout this book as well as having representation for the Deaf community through Fox. Mental health is treated sensitively and no character is ostracised for their struggles. The uplifting words of characters as they help their friends jumps out the page to support the reader with any struggles that they might be having.
Well worth a read.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
Cat’s Cafe surpassed my expectations! I abosuelty loved this entire book and the positive messages it contained. Especially with the state of the world right now and the increased anxiety people may be feeling due to Covid-19, this is exactly what we need! There were so many different pages where I related to the characters and shared relatable parts with my friends. I appreciated Matt Tarpley’s discussion of difficult topics in a quick and easily digestible manner such as how self-talk can change how we think about ourselves. I will definitely be going out to purchase a copy of Cat’s Cafe when it comes out and I can’t wait to see what Matt Tarpley does next!
This is utterly precious!! Each of the animals have thighs going on that sometimes make getting through the day harder, but they’ve got support from one another and are making steps to handle anxiety, depression, and self depreciating thoughts. This is so cute and the art is adorable, plus the way it handles different mental illness and coping strategies was so gentle to read.
4,5 stars!
So so pure and wholesome! I’ve been a fan of the webcomic for quite some time now and when I saw there is going to be a physical copy available, I rejoiced.
Cat’s Cafe is such a feel-good comic that will put a smile on your face when you’re feeling down. I loved following the adventures of all the animals, especially how Cat interacts with all their friends. The comic also touches on serious topics such as anxiety and insecurity, and I found that very well-handled.
I loved this comic and will definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a pick-me-up!
I love love LOVE! this book!!! I thought it was thoughtful, cute, and up-lifting. It has a lot of great lessons without being preachy and reminded me of what the important things are in life. It talks about dealing with mental health issues and being there for friends and relying on friends is such an important part of life. It also talks about the importance of communication and expressing emotions. The artwork was adorable and the jokes were relatable. Besides being thoughtful about life it was also funny in way that I kept saying to myself "that's me!" or "there's my best friend" because it deals with real life.
Maybe a 4.5
eARC provided by Netgalley as well as read some of the comics online at the wbesite.
This was so wholesome. My main complaint was the messages could definitely come off as a little trite and cliche, but I liked how people's struggles were shown in different ways, how some of the characters struggled throughout the whole book to come to any sort of resolution or change. Some didn't at all, and some battled with stuff every day with setbacks and victories.
It's a cute story, and definitely a great pick-me-up if you're feeling down or bored. There were little stories included just for fun that showed characters being goofy and friendly. A few interactive sections were included as well, which really brings the book's messages much more personal if you draw in the little cartoons and write in the specific spots.
As a whole, I highly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrew McMeel Publishing for the ARC provided
This comic was absolutely adorable and cute 😍. I never thought with this simple and cute illustrations it was also deliver an important messages such as friendship, confidence, advices, positive vibes through each characters.
Cat’s Cafe is a coffee shop where everybody who visited that place has their own story. Penguin who likes coffee for daily basis and treat it as a superenergy for him, Rabbit who work there but troubled with its confidence, Snake who has no friends and a lot more. And of course Cat, the owner and the role model for Rabbit cause Cat’s characters teach us that is alright if we do some mistakes in our life, its alright to cry too, and get ready for a new day and new challenge each day of our live.
Real life issue that being written and ilustrated in here is what every day life issue for everyone, I fall in love with Penguin instantly cause of the addiction of the coffee, Rabbit was my early teenager issues with lack of confidence, easily to cry but refused to giving up. Believe me, this book will bring your smile in your face again, realized that everyday is a challenge but also fun, no one’s life is perfect.
Coffee and good friends, this is what Cat’s cafe delivers from this book. I wish I can find this coffee shop around me and able to meet positive people anytime I like
You are getting exactly what you think you are getting with this little book: an utterly adorable, sweet read for everyone, especially those who are fans of <I>Animal Crossing</I> and <I>Winnie the Pooh</i>.
This book is very cute. this book looks at some mental illnesses in a positive light. centered around rabbit's coffee shop. it shows positive ways of supporting someone with mental illness in a light hearted way.
This comic was absolutely what I needed right now. It was so sweet and wholesome and just absolutely fantastic. I had never heard of the webcomic before picking up this book, but now I want to share it with the world and buy the book for everyone.
Each character brought something special to the story. They were adorable, and funny and oh so relatable. I found myself connecting with many of the characters depending on the storyline. The comic ranged from being sweet and innocent, with scenes about taking cute Instagram pics of your coffee - to more serious topics like anxiety and depression. I'm having difficulty articulating just how much I resonated with and loved this comic. It was just perfect.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
Cat's Cafe is a cute book with very adorable pictures. Each comic shows that meaningful friendships are so priceless. This is a great little book that promises to cheer the reader up.
I think this is a super-friendly comic book for children of all age groups; especially, beginners who are first starting to learn how to read. The story does a great job of hitting on some pretty difficult topics; such as depression, the feeling of loneliness, and the importance of true friendship. Throughout the book, the reader is introduced to Cat, a coffee shop owner. Cat takes a lot of pride in providing top-notch service for all the guests who look at the coffee shop as a safe haven and as the epicenter for the growth of new budding friendships. Cat hires the first employee, Rabbit, who really looks up to Cat as a mentor.
The book is broken up with many activities along the way, which not only stimulates the mind but makes things more fun and interesting for young readers. The creativity and artistic flow of the illustrations add to the overall experience and enjoyment of the story.
At first glance, this comic is a cute love story to coffee. There’s penguins and cats and otters and hyenas and snakes (all adorably drawn) that congregate in a cafe and obsess over coffee. However, if you read deeper you see a way more beautiful narrative about mental health. I was very impressed with the way the author handled things like anxiety in a sensitive and beautiful way. I’m glad that future generations will grow up hearing stories like this one: that’s it’s okay to not always be okay.
A compilation of the popular web comic where the Cat's Cafe is a safe space with sweet affirmations. I had never read any of the comics before reading this compilation. Definitely not uproariously funny, but plenty of the cartoons have positive messages presented in a colorful way with a cast of regular characters (cats, dinosaur and penguin among others) who inhabit (visit) the cafe. I imagine this would be well used with elementary school children to discuss the messages. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This combines two things I could never live without, coffee and cats. I started reading the daily Cat's Cafe comics after a friend posted one on Facebook. I was so excited to see it come out as a nice book all put together in one place. Cat's Cafe is not only funny it's pretty uplifting at times as well. The comics are relatable and often reflect things that impact us in real life.
It's very hard to decide upon one favorite character. Cat is understanding and seems to be able to see what everyone needs. Rabbit has so much hidden strength, we start off with Rabbit being so unsure and shy and as the comic progresses we see so much growth and a confidence boost.. Kiwi proves that you should never underestimate anyone, sometimes it the cutest ones you need to watch. Axel teaches not to judge. I think Penguin is just me in another form, so much energy once you add coffee. I always say coffee gives me super powers. No matter who you are, you can find at least one character like yourself. It mirrors the world and shows that everyone is a bit different and that's okay.
I'm giving this a 5/5 Star review but as Armadillo says "It's at least a six or seven out of five."
This was so wholesome and cute, and I kept smiling throughout reading it.
It's a reassuring book for anxiety and depression and feeling you're alone or not good enough, despite it's cutesy style, it helps make them all go away. Through the cat cafe owned by Cat and the help of Rabbit, they meet different animals, each one of them deals with a different type of anxiety and we see how they deal with it in these interconnected comic strips.
I'm thankful for netgalley for the digital arc, and I'd definitely read it again if I needed a pick-me-up!
Cat's Cafe is such cute book, it's so wholesome and pure. The illustrations are just so cute and on point. I honestly have no words to describe this amazing book. I totally recommend it to everyone. Rating: 4/5 stars.
I dont know which character I most relate to: the anxiety bunny, the lonely snake, or the depressed opossum - but it is definitely one of them.
Super short, cute little comics akin to Sarah Scribbles or Bird Brain but with more animals and coffee. Great if you like page-a-day type books with little plot.
I've read this now it's April 2020, a terrible period of the year. This book is so precious and cute. It feels so warm in my heart, and I forgot the real life for just a second.
I wish there is merch for this, tote bags, t-shirts and plushies because I would buy everything with these adorable characters.
Ok I won't lie, I wanted to read this simply because of the title and the fact that there are a range of animals portrayed, including a cat and a penguin, but I'm so glad I picked it up. This collection features short comics revolving around the same group of animal characters, all with different personality traits and struggles. The central theme that connects them is that they live in the same community and frequent the same cafe (owned by Cat!).
There are tons of little discussions regarding anxiety, self confidence issues, depression and more. Each comic was a great snapshot into different situations and were full of inspiration and heartwarming messages.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was such a cute and uplifting comic compilation! It was the perfect mix of funny and inspiring, Each animal had their own distinguishable temperament which was super fun to follow over the course of the comics, I would suggest this to anybody who needs a bright spot in their day because these comics will surely provide it!
Cat's Cafe is an uplifting book of comics that center around a neighborhood cafe and the friends who visit. I loved this series of webcomics and the characters...especially penguin! What's not to love about animals and coffee...my two favorite things!
Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me to read this title early. The thoughts and opinions I share are completely my own.
I was expecting a cutesy fun book, but this just blew me away. It was so absolutely adorable, I can’t even. The drawings and character design were pretty simple, the colors even more so, and yet they complemented the story beautifully. I loved how all the character were dealing with their own lives and issues, but still strived to be better and happier every day. My favorite was probably Kiwi because of his rhymes. I laughed a lot throughout this book and I definitely recommend it if you need a pick-me-up or are just in the mood for a feel-good comic.
I stumbled upon Cat's Cafe by Matt Tarpley while looking up some other books on Netgalley. It look like a cute read so I decided to download it. Let me just say I enjoyed reading it. Who doesn't like coffee shops and cute animals?!
The author did a great job with this graphic novel. He covered issues like depression and anxiety to self confidence and friendship. It was done in an adorable and wonderful way.
I definitely think this book would make a good gift.
Cat's Cafe is a collection of short comic vignettes featuring a group of cute little animal friends. This is a great book for this stressful time. The comics are adorable and full of uplifting messages. The artwork is very cute, colorful and appealing. While the tone overall is positive and upbeat, the book isn't too saccharine. I recommend this to anyone looking for a quick escape.
This is such a cute story with a lot of inspiration! I really enjoyed the illustrations and the characters have really great personalities.
Can this book be any more delightful? Sometimes the greatest lessons are found in the simplest books. If you love animals and coffee and happiness, this is the book for you.
"No matter how you look, how you love, or how you live - all are welcome!"
I have been following the Cat's Café comics for years now, so reading its first collection was more of a recap for me. Still, I smiled at each strip and was warmed by them as if I had read them for the first time. It was wonderful to reread the earlier comics, seeing the art style develop, all characters to come together - and it is wonderful that this collection exists so that all the adventures of the Cat's Café characters can be found and enjoyed by many more.
The Cat's Café characters are lovely in their diversity, not only because they are all different animals but because everyone has its own distinct personality, their own struggles and fears and strengths - and with these struggles, fears, and strengths the reader can identify themselves: anxiety, panic disorders, self-doubt, lack of confidence, depression, feeling left out or lonely, communicative problems, etc. Or more light-hearted struggles such as deadlines. There is also a deaf character. And despite their differences and their struggles, they are all treated the same: With kindness and love, support and patience. None of them is diminished; all of them are seen and acknowledged. Cat, Rabbit, Hyena, Penguin, Whale, Kiwi, Otter, and all the others support each other, guide each other through their storms as best as they can.
There are light-hearted strips; there are ones which deal with more pressing topics. The former to make you smile, the latter to make you feel seen and acknowledged in your struggles. And the support you see depicted in the collection is also offered to you - directly in one strip, indirectly in all the others.
These comics are for sunny days to make the day brighter, for rainy ones to ease the clouds away.
These comics are there to help you out of your storm, to guide you to better days filled with warmth. Little by little. As best as they can.
5/5 stars - would forever recommend
This books is adorable. I enjoyed the different scenes and how the characters interacted with each other. Great themes. Our high school students are going to love this one.
I've loved so much this comic!
Cat's Cafe is not only about some cutie little animals that love coffe. Every character has his own issues that often leads him to isolate himself and not to have confidence in himself.
But with friendship and self love problems seem to be easier to deal with.
Matt Tarpley's drawing style is simple but effective! The color palette makes a lot of the various sets of soul of the characters.
I've found a lot of positive vibesthat made me happy during the reading. Sometimes I've cried. I was in love with all of the characters (even Whale and Axolotl that are animals that I don't like).
I hope there will be other books about this little animals and their slice of life.
EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS COMIC BOOK!
I've probably seen one or two of the comic strips in this book on Tumblr and Twitter and thought them cute and sweet but didn't know how profound, how wise, how joyful all of this would turn out to be. It was a great comfort and in the last weeks to read about sweet little critters being quirky, finding friends, battling anxiety and depression. This book makes me so happy! Also, now I have a new gift idea for so many of my friends!
Love this book. I found the little characters relatable, witty, and cute. Would buy it for a personal collection, but not for the library.
I love cats, so I couldn't stop reading this comic. It's a light read, it's fun and, a highlight for a HQ, it works well as an e-book too. I confess that I expected a little more history in reading, it has a lot of image, but little text and little involvement with the story itself. But it was still fun to read.
Huge thank you to Netgalley for providing me an e-ARC of this book!
I adore this book. Plain and simple. It's a series of short comic strips that sometimes directly relate to one another and sometimes not, but they all feature the same cast of characters, starting from Cat who owns a cafe, Penguin who is obsessed with coffee to Rabbit who struggles with anxiety.
At first I thought that Cat's Cafe is a cute comic collection that little children would easily enjoy with the art style and very short strips that are easy to understand. And that remains true, but Cat's Cafe is more than that. Cat's Cafe also explores a myriad of issues, such as lack of self-esteem, seasonal depression and mental illnesses. It reminds us that we are not alone fighting these mental illnesses, and is just a general reminder for us to look after ourselves.
I think Cat's Cafe is a comic collection that is not only suitable, but also should be read by people of all ages. As someone who is mentally ill, it hits home on a couple of counts, but it still made me smile and feel good by the time I finished the book. Perhaps it's the constant reminder through the comics that while it is absolutely okay to feel lost and sad, we will get better over time, or perhaps it's just the adorable art style. Whatever it was, it was definitely worth the read.
Also, I would especially recommend this to people who enjoy Animal Crossing and Winnie the Pooh!
Such a wonderful, wonderful comic this is! Cat's Café isn't just super cute, it's also wise and inspiring.
I'd say that this is close to the perfect how-to-guide for self-acceptance for both children and adults alike. Adorable drawings, fun and clever "plots" for each of the comic strips. Just lovely and brilliant!
*I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
This was such a cute collection of comics! Originally I figured it would be considered a kid's title due to the adorable art style, but the more I read the more I realized it was probably meant for adults due to its (positive) discussion of mental health. I read this one during the pandemic, so it was a nice breath of fresh air for the time.
Pure, wholesome, feel-good comic that will put a smile on your face in the times we are living in today. The comic touches on tough topics on different mental health issues. You’re sometimes asked to examine your own mental health but in a super relatable way. Overall, I’m obsessed with Cat and Penguin’s characters and would recommend this comic to anyone and everyone!
ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley I’m exchange for an honest review
Cat's Cafe is an adorable collection of comics with cute characters!
It was a short and lovely read. Much recommended to those in a reading slump.
Illustration books rock!
Thank you, Netgalley for the free eArc in exchange for an honest review.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review which has not altered my opinion of this book.
This is honestly one of the cutest and most heartwarming book I have read in a very long while. The cast of characters was so diverse as far as just about everything. There is depiction of anxiety, depression, deafness, love, and so much more! All of these characters bring their unique personalities to Cat’s café and e get to see how the interact and it is wonderful.
This whole story is so inspiring and encouraging and I really enjoyed everything that it had to offer and I can’t help but recommend it everyone. It’s so cute and wonderful and you should go read it now! I give this 5 out of 5.
This was deeply adorable! It's the kind of small graphic novels I definitely see myself rereading from time to time whenever I feel low!
Such a cute, adorable read. I read this in one sitting and I really love how this tackles mental health in a light, positive way.
This collection of comics is an adorable illustration of the importance of friendship (and coffee) for being able to get through life and find the happy moments in everyday. Tarpley explores these relationships and their impacts on our mental health through bright illustrations and an eclectic collection of characters who all support one another in reaching their dreams. This is definitely a collection of comics that I'll be recommending and revisiting.
This book (or collection of comics, I suppose) starts off as probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Cat owns a cafe, Penguin drinks a lot of coffee, and all of their cute friends did cute things that made me smile.
Then it became apparent that many of the characters were struggling with their mental health and coping mechanisms and that was unexpected but very appreciated! I related to Rabbit’s anxiety most of all, and I really loved the message that it’s okay to be sad, it’s okay to be anxious, it’s okay to cry… and it’s okay to lean on your friends for support.
This was a really great collection and if you love cute animals, you’ll probably love it too.
Thank you to Andrew McMeel Publishing and Netgalley for access to the digital ARC.
Cat's Cafe is simply wonderful! It handles the subject of mental health and depression in a way I have not seen before in this format. If I could rate it higher than a 5 stars I would.
Oh my golly gosh this book was SO adorable!! The art style was wonderful, I wanted to hug all the animals, they're the freaking cutest. I loved how it was funny and relatable it was but also taught to teach some valuable life lessons and give advice. I loved how it dealt with mental illness and the structure. I loved all the coffee and the cafe element. Ughhh just so great and I'm very glad I read this one. Definitely a graphic novel you won't want to miss!
Based on the popular webcomic, Cat’s Café, this book introduces new and old readers to the adorable citizens of this world. There's Penguin, who has a bit of a coffee problem; Rabbit, whose anxiety sometimes overwhelms him; Axolotl, whose confidence inspires his friends; the always-supportive Cat, who provides hot drinks made with love and a supportive ear for anyone's troubles.
I was delightfully surprised by this collection of comics. Not because it was cute, I mean it’s about cats; cats who make coffee...a dream come true in my book! But it is full of positive moments, kindnesses that I wish were more common amongst humans, a Penguin who reminded me of myself when I need coffee, and one little cute Rabbit who needs a hug--often.
It is the perfect remedy for these scary times and the loneliness some of us in quarantine are feeling because of the isolation.
I loved this! Grab a copy, a good cup of coffee, and experience the warm fuzzies.
I received this book free from Andrews McMeel Publishing and Netgalley for my honest, unbiased review.

Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. It was cute. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.
I was unfamiliar with this web comic until I read this book. I loved it! I will be following this comic now for sure. The characters are all cute, but have deep issues. I love how it dives into issues of self esteem, loneliness and mental health issues with wisdom and humor. This comic feels like a nice warm hug and will give you the warm fuzzies.
A heartwarming comic that's more than what I had expected it to be. It's not only lighthearted and adorable, but also deep in a gentle and optimistic way. I adore how bright this comic is, and how it approaches topics like anxiety and self-doubt, negativity and more. The fact that it focuses on the world outside of the cafe is brilliant (because there's always a world outside of a safe bubble), and the way the creator brings it all back to the cafe in the end is just as great too.
Cat's Cafe is the pick-me-up I needed, and I believe it'll be the kind of comic for everyone who needs one as well.
Well if this wasn't the most unexpectedly delightful read ever!
I wasn't familiar with the Cat's Cafe webcomics, so I didn't really have any expectations of this book beyond "cute animals, I guess?". It pretty much won me over with the map of the animals' houses.
... for those who haven't read the book (yet), that's literally the first illustration. xD
The book doesn't have a storyline per se and is definitely a collection of short comic strips, but the core cast of characters stays the same throughout: different animals with their own personalities, quirks and difficulties. The book broaches difficult topics such as mental health, but does it with a kindness and softness that was so extremely warm and fuzzy and wholesome that it melted even my own cold heart.
Snake and Hyena (and Duckie! <3) ware my personal faves, as were Platy, Chameleon and Fox, but, really, all of the characters were ridiculously adorable and relatable!
A+, would read again, will likely buy a paper copy to keep around.
This was a cute book and I pretty much love anything with cats. I enjoyed the illustrations and would recommend this to any cat lover!
This book was a delightful break from the current situation in the real world. With clever quips and adorable illustrations, I could hardly keep the smile from my face as I read it all in one sitting.
Wowow this is so adorable!
Cat's Cafe is a collection of 1-2 page snippets of the goings-on of the eccentric animals in a little town. There are lots of cute scenes, but some darker/more real ones too. The animals all work together to lift each other up and help each other out, whether it be to support each other through mental health struggles or to get their next coffee fix.
15/10 extremely wholesome. A great little 20 minute read if you need a wonderfully-illustrated reprieve from the real world.
P.S. This can definitely be used as a "tag yourself" meme. I'm the lonely snake that wants friends and the angrily positive armadillo.
Although I read graphic novels once in a while, I don't usually read webcomics, so I had never heard of Cat's Café before. However, the colourful cover grabbed my attention and I decided to give it a go. It must have been the best decision I made all week, because the funny, feel-good stories in this collection were just what I needed during quarantine.
The stories seem simple at first, just a few funny characters and gags, but after a few pages you start to realize these characters actually have pretty defined personalities, be it the coffee-addicted penguin or the anxious bunny. Just like animals were used in fables to teach us moral lessons, here animals helps us see our problems from a distance, and therefore understand ourselves better. There's a character (or two!) out there in which we can see ourselves represented.
The art is a good example of "simple, not simplistic." Comics don't need to be drawn in an hyperrealistic manner to be good, and and the same time, being simple doesn't mean there's no work behind it. The intense colours are lovely, they're like a warm hug (or cup of coffee), and there being little dialogue, the drawing conveys plenty of emotions in subtle ways.
The comic feels modern, it seems to capture the present very well, and yet it is somewhat escapist in that it transports you to a more optimistic place, if only in your mind. It certainly made me chuckle several times. Evidently, I have now followed Cat's Café in social media so I can keep visiting this world when I feel blue.
(The review will appear on my blog on April 28th 2020.)
I wasn't aware this originated as a webcomic and had no idea what to expect. I thought it would just be cute little comics - and it was! There's a bunny who's a new hire at the cafe and is worried about the job. There's a penguin who LIVES for coffee. A starfish who dreams of actual stars. Over the course of the book, however, it went from cute and wholesome to introspective and thought-provoking, something I definitely wasn't expecting! There are notes to write and affirmations. Really sweet and pure.
These were by far my most beloved 170 pages from any book or any graphic novel ever read. There are so many lovely animals such as: Cat, Rabbit, Kiwi, Blue Jay AND ALSO PENGUIN!!! Oh God! This was so perfect even though I never drank or will drink coffee. But that thing with "HOT CHOCOLATE THROUGH MY VEINS" totally described me!!!!
oh, the warm fuzzy feeling...
At first, I thought it is a bunch of cute, cuddly, kind of silly cartoons
But sometimes it digs a little deeper and I would start doing self-association
and chocking with emotion
Again, warm fuzzy feeling with cute characters
Cat's Café: A Comics Collection is an adorably sweet, humorous collection of comics set in a wonderfully imaginative world, with the cutest cast of animal characters. The whole premise revolves around Cat, who owns a café, and the adventures of them and their café visitors.
Having never previously hearing about this webcomic series, digging into this collection for the first time was an absolute delight. I enjoyed the wide range of topics covered throughout the book, from the lighthearted tales of Penguin's extreme love of coffee, to Rabbit dealing with their anxiety and Snake feeling lonesome without friends. These more serious, mental health topics are handled in such a well-executed, positive light. It definitely helps to have a cute art style, that allows these serious topics to be softened in such ways that fit with the other stories of the collection (never feeling jarring or forced), and I greatly appreciated this. Personally, I felt very positively lifted in spirit after reading these, and I felt good!
Also, I also found it a nice touch most characters had no specific gender, as they are typically referred to by their animal name or the pronouns they/them.
This is such a heartwarming collection to read. Despite not being a very long collection, by the end I felt I got to know the characters and understood their personalities very well. There is definitely a character (or two, or more) that everyone can relate to, and combining that with the cutesy art style creates an enjoyable, highly recommendable read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the advanced copy, in exchange for an honest review!
This was extremely cute. A great collection of inspiring and relatable situations. There are a few puns which are hilarious. The animal characters are easy to follow and make you want to keep reading.
This book is absolutely ADORABLE!!! I love the characters, and the artwork, basically everything about it. This is a cute quick read that covers some potentially deep material in a very approachable way. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. Read it!!!
The comic book warms my heart. The art is cute, the characters adorable and relatable. Merge bunny, snake, and opossum together and you get me. It's the kind of comic that would cheer me up when I'm feeling down. I think most introverts can relate to at least one or even multiple characters.
The stories are short, usually only one page, which is perfectly fine. They're enough to show the personalities of the animals and to share a message with the reader.
A heartwarming comic about Cat and the various customers at her neighborhood café. Although these animals look cute and lovable, some of them suffer from mental issues like anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. And Cat and friends are there to support each other and to share the joy of simple things, like coffee and hugs and kindness. Very relatable, and exactly what everyone needs right now to bring a smile on their faces.
I really like the art style of this graphic novel and the colors too. The animals all look so cute. This was just so cute, I want to get myself a finished copy. I would get my niece this too, I think she would love it.
I don't think I've ever read something as cute as this book!
The characters are great with all their good sides and their flaws. And I love how they all strive to be better, just as we should. And the cafe owner - Cat is the most wholesome of all (and also reminds me of the main character of a favorite manga). All that is the perfect mix to help you get through a bad/lonely day.
All in all, cute, wholesome, this is the meaning of comfort read.
*Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a free digital copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.*
A heaping dose of caffeine and floofs, Cat's Cafe is a must-read for Hawaii fans and those in need of some calming vibes.
This is a cute comic collection about a cat who is the owner of a café. I believe that parents and children will like to read this together. There is not a whole lot of comic that kids can read and this is about 170 pages of fun. as in every comic book some of the little tells are better than other but all in all I would buy this for my 4 year old niece to read with.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
I literally could not stop smiling while reading this, it was just what I needed in anxious times like these. Reading this put me in such a good mood. There are so many cute quotes, I can't wait to buy the physical version.
Very sseet with lots of good messages. There are so many adorable characters, all going through their own life journeys, that any reader can find someone to relate to.
This is an adorable giggle of a comic collection. This is made up of selection of strips about Cat who runs his cafe and his other animal customers and their trials and tribulations of life. It is a bright vibrant comic which as well as the laughs has a lot of laughs. I throughly enjoyed this and would recommend.
This book is a collection of cute animal webcomics. People who like cats, coffee, and inspirational encouragements are the best audience for this book, but it has a whole range of different animal characters, so people who are not cat fans shouldn't be turned away. These comics feature a whole menagerie of different animals, and even though the coffee shop is a major setting and gathering place, many of the comics are also set in other locations. Some of my favorites involve a whale in the ocean.
This is a very wholesome and sweet book, and it is completely appropriate for children as well as adults. I expect that adults will appreciate the messages about coping with stress and identity issues more than children, but the book is completely free of any objectionable content, and is cute and appealing for all ages.
However, this book isn't particularly funny, and I was hoping for more. A few comics made me chuckle, but for the most part, it is just cute, gentle, and reassuring, not going for major laugh lines. I would have enjoyed this more if there had been more witty dialogue and situational humor in the comics, but I enjoyed it regardless, especially like the penguin and gator characters, and expect that most people will find this very charming and cute.
A compilation of "Cat's Cafe", a cute and wholesome webtoon. Adorable animals with distinct personalities (loved the coffee penguin addict), positive vibes, and lovely messages/commentary. A fun and light read.
*Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McGeel Publishing for providing a free ARC
Cat's Cafe is a quick and enjoyable read, like a cup of coffee. With funny situations and characters, the comic made me laugh or smile on every page. The penguin, the rabbit, the armadillo, the snake, the star, the alligator, the cat himself... All of them are so cute and very relatable to people in our daily lives as well (ourselves, maybe).
Highly recommended. You can finish the read in just a sit and feel relaxed at the end, especially if you read with a cup of coffee with you.
Cat's Cafe is a collection of cute short comics that follow a feline barista and all his friends/customers.
This comic is very wholesome! It has a lot of messages for older readers about dealing with fears and stress. I'm not sure younger readers would be able to get the messages but either way, it is very cute.
If you're looking for something to make you smile, then this is the comic for you! It's necessarily fun but a lot of the stories are bound to make you smile!
My favorite character was the over the top penguin who is completely obsessed with anything coffee. I also really adore Cat's assistant, the rabbit. Rabbit is not confident in himself at all but works every day to try to build it up a little.
If you have kids or nieces/nephews who like comics, I definitely recommend this for them.
A huge thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review!
ASDFHAGSJAHD I AM HAVING ALL THE EMOTIONS. ALL THE WARM AND FLOOFIES.
First thing tomorrow I will order myself a physical copy because I need this in my life always. From laughing out loud and hoping I didn’t wake my dad to feeling the pain deep inside my soul. A wonderful and cute collection and one that I can’t get enough of! I there any more?? Will there be more?? Can I go the café? I’m a fox after all!
Honestly the issues shown in here are so relatable and accurate. And there is a deaf fox which was just the icing on the cake.
I could rave about this forever and will shout about it to everyone who will hear!
I loved this book. The colors and art are so fun. The basic setup is that Cat runs a cafe that serves coffee and the mini stories highlight how the characters deal with mental health, friendship, self image, and confidence.
It was so cute and exactly what I needed to read right now. Each page is four or five panels telling a short story that often made me smile or laugh. It was fun getting to know the characters and their personalities all within the cafe. I will definitely be reading this one again and bookmarking my favorite stories.
Cat's Cafe Comics by Matt Tapley follows a feline barista, his rabbit assistant and their adorable animal patrons. Originally a web comic, Cat has made the jump to a book.
As a fan of the web comic, I enjoyed getting to catch up with Cat, Gator, Rabbit and the whole crew of adorable animals again.
Tapley gently approaches issues such as anxiety, loneliness and self esteem - with the affected animals reaching out to their friends to weather the storm. Rabbit exercises self care when feeling distressed, and Tapley's work highlights the importance of friendship.
My personal favourite plotline is about Gator, who has a secret crush on Cat. It is so sweet, my heart melted.
Perfect for audiences young and old - and a must for fans of The Latest Kate by Kate Allen and Loading Penguin Hugs by Chibird.
I'm looking forward to adding this to my shelf once it's released.
I received a digital copy via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved all of the pictures and words in this book. Penguin is now a personal hero of mine. It is seriously real, funny, emotional, and spot on for trying to survive in today's world. I highly recommend this as a gift for friends and family.
This graphic novel is the cutest thing ever. It should be in every home and school and counseling office. The way the different characters interact with each other and present their insecurities and mental illnesses and are accepted and supported was a wonderful experience. We can all learn a lot from the Cat’s Cafe.
Warm and cute and fuzzy and floofy. As you follow the story of a sweet cat who runs a neighbourhood cafe and all the adorable animal visitors, I have no doubt that you'll just feel better. This is the perfect type of book to read when you're just having an off day because almost every comic will have you smiling or making audible "awwww" sounds.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a review copy.
A light, breezy and fun 'comic' book full of quips and silliness, perfect for reading on a cozy day with a purring friend nuzzling your feet.
My twelve-year-old son and avid cat afficionado devoured this book like a can of fresh tuna. His favorite characters? Penguin and Kiwi. Mine? Kiwi and Rabbit, although frankly it wasn't a straightforward choice to narrow them down to just two.
I went to purchase the book - as my son has decided he needs to "rip out these pages and put them on his door", to let those wanting to come in to know, "this is me".
In a nutshell, the book resonated. We enjoyed a few afternoons together reading this and pointing out silliness.
Is it great literature? No. But it's really fun and enjoyable to read, and I wanted more almost immediately.
An extremely endearing, heartwarming, and precious book! As a barista I absolutely adored this book! There are so many messages on self love, dealing with anxiety and sadness, and learning to make friends in this book. This was absolutely perfect! I adored every page and word! I highly recommend this book for all ages because it can teach us all something and bring a smile to your face.
From NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I could gush about this for an eternity. The art style is adorable, the short comic set up makes it a quick read, some of the comics were relatable while others were funny and hot warming. This is a book I want to own in the future and reread it over and over again.
This was just so darn cute! It's a cat's cafe and their many customers and friends. I thought this was just about animals and coffee and tea, but it's so much more. It's about helping friends through difficult times and when they are feeling anxious or sad. I thought the art was adorable.
This was the perfect pick-me-up read for me. Wholesomeness dripped from every page and I found myself smiling or giggling at some of the characters (Penguin is my favorite, naturally). Super cute and a great light-hearted read.
Cat's Cafe is based on a Webcomic, it is a bunch of short stories that all have a positive message. It is almost like the cat is a bartender and listens to all of the other animals' problems helping when they can.
The art is adorable. I love the punk axolotl. Each animal has a distinct personality which created a feeling of having an actual town with these different characters in it. My favorite interactions of the entire book were the otter and walrus.
The "everything is going to be ok" feeling of the book makes it perfect for a light read.
Super cute! Ever since I became obsessed with Zootopia I’ve been super into graphic novels and books about animal characters. This one was super cute and I loved all the different cats and I love the art style. Super cute and fun read!
I've been a fan of Cat's Cafe since my barista friend introduced me to Tarpley's instagram a few months ago. After having seen his adorable, uplifting, and hilarious 4-8 panel comics, I knew I had to download this from NetGalley! And what a great decision it was, because Tarpley's comics are just adorable. From Cat's Cafe's beginning to the friendships all the characters have made, this comic collection makes for both a creative and sweet outlook on what it means to not only be a barista, but to be a part of a community.
Love love love!
Cat's Cafe is a wonderful, imaginative, wholesome comic series that definitely provides that warm and fuzzy feeling. Cat's coffee shop acts as the central location in which Cat and their friend's convene, whether for coffee, studying, or looking to socialize. Each animal character has their own charming personali, whether it's the artistic Gator, positive Armadillo, or coffee loving Penguin. Many of the comics address mental-health issues, friendship, and self-growth in an understanding manner too. This is a great book for readers and comic lovers of all ages who need a pick-me-up, some laughs, or positive reinforcement.
Sorta cute comics relating to coffee with a hefty shot of affirmations about loving one's self. There are worse ways to spend twenty minutes.
This was so cute and wholesome! I think I smiled the entire time I was reading it! My favorite part was when you can actually solve a maze to get the penguin to his coffee. My other favorite was with the snake at a table alone(you’ll have to read to find out what I’m talking about). If that doesn’t sell you then I don’t know what will. Just read it!
100% cuteness, positivity, self-empowerment, and social support. Made we want to hug all of my friends, hug all of their friends, and treat them all to coffee. The art style is incredibly cute and I feel a bit better about the life after reading this.
A collection of comics about Cat who runs a café, provides for the caffeine needs of others, but more importantly provides a safe place where everyone can be real, get emotional support, and connect with others.
I’ve been savoring my ARC of this comics collection. I could have devoured it weeks ago in one sitting, but I made myself space it out. It was such a delightful feel good read. The characters are all adorable, but it is more about the sentiments conveyed and how encouraging the book as a whole is for the reader. Yes, there are comics about the love of coffee and tea that are humorous, but there’s also sweet comics about friendship, and fantastic comics on how to get to a better spot emotionally and psychologically. The comics as a whole do a great job of showing how no one is perfect, everyone feels insecure, everyone has emotional ups and downs, and everyone needs a good friend. And each comic resolves on a positive note. The insecurity is acknowledged and the character is encouraged. The emotional characters are given space to feel whatever they are feeling, and supportive friends abound. This book is a bundle of cheerfulness and a good shot of encouragement for whatever you might be going through. Highly recommended for any age reader.
No content issues.
I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have seen the characters and some panels around the internet in passing, but never knew it was a full comic with a diverse cast of characters! The book was a quick read with a child-like feel, but covered a range of topics. As much as I would like to recommend this for middle-grade, I feel that it may be a bit more of a high-school level read in terms of the content. On the surface it's very cute and light hearted, but some of the characters dive into topics of depression, anxiety, and that general worry of how others are so different than us. I really enjoy how balanced it was between the topics and it was a joy to read.
The contents of this book are as adorable as the title and cover suggested they would be! These are short form, humorous comics, 3-6 panels per page, about a cat who owns and operates a cafe and the various, eccentric animal customers he has. Light, sweet fun.
This book really took me by surprise. I went in thinking it would be a cute collection of comics, maybe a little bit cheesy, but instead I got a funny, adorable, relatable, and addicting comic that I absolutely loved! There is a pretty big cast of characters, but by adding them in slowly throughout the book you really got a good sense of each character and their personalities before another character was introduced. The stories touch on friendship, anxiety, feeling lost, and so much more. The only thing I wish from this book was that it wrapped up some of the characters troubles like the hyena's for example, but at the same time you do see character development like in the snake! Every time I went back to read more it honestly felt like going back to friends.
THIS IS THE CUTEST, MOST WHOLESOME THING I’VE EVER SEEN. I couldn’t help but smile the entire time and kept pausing to say “awwwww”. You start off just thinking it’s an adorable comic about cute animals and coffee (which it totally is) but then you see all the deeper issues that this comic covers. It handles mental health in such a great way, covering everything from anxiety to self-confidence, and everything in between. Plus all of the coffee humor is superb.
As someone who deals with really bad anxiety, Rabbit makes me feel seen. And all of the positivity is just a really nice change of pace.
I highly recommend this! 10/5 stars! I think I’m going to buy myself a copy when it comes out, it’s just that cute.
I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Cat’s Cafe when I first picked it up, I thought there was going to be an overarching storyline but it was a few panels per story over a couple of pages. So as sceptical as I was that I would be able to connect I picked it up and started to read. This was one of the most wholesome, heartwarming comic set that I have ever read. It made me feel seen with the issues that we can face every day. It shines a light on mental health, friendship and feeling alone/lost and allows the reader to feel like it is okay and that it will pass. The amount of positivity in this book is amazing and something the world definitely needs in our current time. The coffee/caffeine humour is the icing on top of the cake and I cannot wait to purchase physical copies for all of my friends. I loved this book so much!
3.5 stars out of 5.
This book is a collection of mini-comics about a town of cute animals who love coffee and deal with mental issues with the help of their friends. Its presentation is clean and cute, with a generally soft color scheme and easy-to-follow panels. The story stars a supportive cat who runs the titular cafe, an anxiety-ridden rabbit, a lonely snake, a philosophizing duck, a very cute kiwi, and many other characters all united by their love of coffee and visits to Cat's Cafe. There are plenty of just cute and wholesome stories in here, plenty of stories based around coffee, and plenty of amusing bits. Some of the visual gags in particular were quite good. There's also a few more heavy bits talking about issues like anxiety, loneliness, and depression, but there's usually a wholesome ending to these, or some sort of advice on how to handle these issues. It's an impressive variety, considering I initially thought this was going to be a purely cuteness-focused book.
Overall, it's a cute comic collection with a bit of bite to it. It's sure to be relatable for any adult readers, but I think kids would enjoy this one as well. If the concept or presentation has you interested, it's actually a webcomic, so you can check it out online first.
I hadn't seen this comic prior to reading this book but I like what I read. There's humor and heart in equal measure, with each animal representing a different insecurity or social issue. An enjoyable read that should hold up to repeat reading.
This graphic novel is a collection of web comics and it is ABSOLUTELY adorable. Cat owns a cafe as the title implies and the comics follow Cat as well as a whole host of animals. The cafe and the whole comic is a safe-space for all animals and readers and deals with depression and loneliness in a warm, feel good, and wholesome way. The animals are cute and hilarious and I absolute felt warm and fuzzy after.
There is a penguin with a coffee addiction that is hilarious and all too relatable for me. He is over the top obsesses and it is very fun. The other animals all have some sort of ailment or issue, there is a lonely snake an emotional hyena, an anxious rabbit. They are all adorably drawn but the comics cover important issues and is deeper than you would expect. This is just want I needed as a pick me up.
I think that this book would be great for just about anyone, especially those that enjoy cute animals, safe spaces, and coffee.
I didn't think that I would be <strong>crying over cute animal comics</strong>, yet here we are 😭 I picked up Cat's Café because I was in the mood for a nice comic to read in one sitting but I hadn't anticipated how much I would end up loving it! I fell head over heels in love with the story and quickly got deeply<strong> emotionally attached to the journey of all the animals</strong> 🥰 I hadn't even known that this was originally a webcomic, so I went into the story completely blind and was surprised that I loved it so much - so now I'll definitely keep an eye on the webcomic for sure. Please someone take me out of this reality and into the magical Cat Café!! 🐱
<b>The story centers around the Cat's Café, set in an animal town, and follows the resident's everyday adventures!</b> ➽ The whole setup was amazing as I quickly fell in love with the Café led by Cat (all animals are called by their species name) and how it was a <strong>safe space for all the other animals</strong> living in the town and a way for them to connect with each other. The <strong>sense of community and friendship</strong> was warming my heart, as everyone is trying to help each other out and there for support if needed. Reading the book made me want to travel to the Café myself to enjoy a hot cup of coffee with Cat and her friends 😥 The setting just feels so cozy and combines two of my favorite things ever: coffee and cute animals.
<b>I loved all the characters so much</b> ➽ As the collection goes on we get to know several animals that frequent the coffee shop and what their daily life looks like. I loved getting these little<strong> slice of life moments</strong>, as the comic itself doesn't have a big overarching storyline. However, the animals have their own emotional, personal journeys so I didn't mind that there wasn't a big plotline. I was content to follow the animals from day to day and apart from that, we did get some themes, like different seasons. I loved <strong>Cat</strong> the most, as they always tried to make everyone comfortable and poured their heart and soul into making the coffee shop a meeting space for all the fellow animals. I also really related to <strong>Rabbit</strong>, as they were very anxious and overwhelmed with a new situation yet bravely took on the job as a new barista. There were so many more amazing animal characters like the coffee addicted Penguin, the insecure Snake who dreams of becoming more and Owl who loves knowledge. I began to care greatly for all of them, especially as there was a <strong>big emphasis on friendship</strong> and making sure no one felt alone! 💕
<b>I loved the wholesome and positive messages about mental health and self-care!</b> ➽ The general story tone was amazing, it was part funny and witty, part positive and encouraging, and also part sad but honest. I loved how the story talked about <strong>what living with anxiety and depression felt like</strong> and how it can be difficult to accept help even though your friends are there to support you. I especially related to the worry and existential dread that Rabbit went through. I loved how the creator included mental health representation in this wholesome comic. There was so much <strong>focus on believing in yourself and taking care of your mind and body</strong>, even though it sometimes can be hard. All the messages felt so genuine and came across as encouraging and honest 😭💗
<strong>IN CONCLUSION.</strong ➽ <i>Cat's Café </i>is an incredibly <strong>wholesome and positive comic collection</strong> set at a lovely café in an animal town following the adventures of the residents. I loved how it touched upon <strong>friendship, mental health, and believing in yourself</strong> - all the messages felt genuine and therefore had a big impact on me! If you need a comforting read definitely check out this comic 😍
I've been following Matt Tarpley on Instagram (@catccafecomics) for about a month now and his work has kept me sane during the lockdown.
Cat's Cafe: A Comics Collection is a series of really sweet and wholesome comics. Here we have a penguin who has a coffee problem, anxious rabbit, supportive cat and so many more! Even if the comics may seem a bit silly at first, they are really relatable and sweet. We all have a friend that has to have 5 cups of coffee just to function, we all have a friend that's supportive no matter what. We all feel anxious sometimes and these comics are a great reminder to breathe and have a laugh from time to time.
I really love it!!!
Those little animals are great!! So cute and possitive drawings that make you smile!!!
I hope to find it soon in Spanish!!!
Cat's Cafe is the most adorable, heartwarming comic that I absolutely need in my life right now. Look, 2020 hasn't been great, so why not take your mind off things by reading a lovely comic about a cat who runs a cafe with their friend, the rabbit, Penguin, their best customer who might love coffee just a little too much, and a whole cast of adorable critters. This comic is so uplifting and positive, it warmed my cold dead heart. I need to know more of Cat's cafe and all of Cat's friends.
This is so wholesome and I'm so glad I got to read it. It gave me so much comfort during these difficult times, I advise everyone to read it, it will make you smile.
5/5 stars
The art and the messages of this comic are amazing. It has an aesthetic which brings joy to the eyes and mind. This is a comic for all because of all the coziness it evokes. Also, coffee and chibi, colorful animals. ;) I highly recommend it if you would like a light read which brings you instant happiness and a "feel good" mood. This comic gives a lot of positive vibes and hope.
Overall, it is such a cat-tastic and perfect comic which warmed my heart with its cute art, humor, and relatable stories. <3
Comics AND cats. It's like this book was made for me! There isn't much more that gets me this excited and feeling like a child again!
This adorable comic collection by Matt Tarpley is lovely! It's the type of book you sit down with a cup of tea and a blanket and just feel good with. The illustrations are simplistic, but it only adds to the fun and nostalgia of this book. It gave me childhood cartoon vibes (but easily enjoyable by an adult audience)! The stories are sweet, short and highly amusing, leaving me giggling along the way. Honestly, it's the kind of positivity the world needs right now: funny cats.
Overall, this book is so lovely! It's silly, goofy, cute and fantastic. It's easy and quick to read, and will be enjoyed by kids and adults alike!
Four out of five stars.

Cat’s Cafe is a happy place. Cat serves coffee along with kindness, acceptance, and emotional support for every creature who comes through the door. The cast of characters in this delightful book of comics come to life with whimsical colors and genuine personalities. Rabbit is nervous serving customers in the cafe. Penguin is there often, a true lover of coffee. Gator is a little shy but a really good artist. Snake understands that he looks scary, but underneath that he just wants friends. And there are so many more animals in the village.
The comics in Cat’s Cafe cover a broad range of topics, loneliness, anxiety, stress, friendship, and depression. These characters are there for each other, supporting each other, accepting each other for who they are, and bringing out the best in each other. The gentle humor and overall warmth of Cat’s Cafe make it a lovely, healing, relaxing place to be.
When I first started reading this book, I thought it would be a fun way to spend some time, a light read to take me out of the stress of the day. And it was. But it was so much more than that. These characters were so generous with each other, so loyal and encouraging, that my heart and soul were lifted. The more I read, the more I wanted to buy several copies and wrap them off and send them to anyone I know who struggles with anxiety or depression, or who is just going through a difficult time. Cat’s Cafe is simply the place I want to be right now.
Author/illustrator Matt Tarpley clearly understands the emotional life of an anxious human. He not only understands the emotions, he can express them through his characters, and he can use the other characters in that comic to demonstrate the best, kindest way to respond. These comics could be seen as a vibrantly fun masterclass in communicating difficult emotions. This could be a perfect way to teach individuals, young and old, how to talk about their own feelings as well as how to empathize with others. That’s the genius of Cat’s Cafe. It seems so innocent, so adorable, and then you’re crying because there is a sudden and powerful truth that shakes you to your core.
I loved this book so much, and I highly recommend Cat’s Cafe to anyone going through a hard time who could use supportive words from adorable, colorful animals who love each other and coffee. Which, I think, is everyone at some point in their lives. Buy it for your kids, but make sure to read it yourself too. It’s worth your time.

I truly didn't expect this book to be full of insights on mental heath, but was delightfully surprised to find out it was! Cat's Cafe explores the lives of the cast of characters who frequent Cat's Cafe. This collection is sure to bring a smile to your face.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* ONG how cute I NEED this book! Everything is just so adorable and ive never come across a book with all of my favorite animals :0!!! Will need to buy bc this is just the cutest thing ive read in like ever.
This was a really up little comic series that touched bases on real life mental health issues that are so relatable to many. The pictures of the characters where so cute and colorful. It was a fast and easy read. I look forward to reading more of the authors material in the future. PS its cats, who doesn't love any story line that involves cats, that is what made the story even more entertaining.
This is such a good and wholesome comic. I really loved reading it. It was the perfect pick-me-up that was also a fairly quick read. The characters gave me so much serotonin and I absolutely loved all of them. I love all of the positive messages and how the comic feels like such a safe space. There were many deep messages found in this comic that were portrayed in a lighthearted almost kiddish way. But the more you read the more you realized it has muessages for all ages even though it may come across as a kid comic.
Really cute! I did not know the web comic before, but now I'm following on Instagram! Everyday a funny illustration is coming out. I love the colors, the characters and the story is really cute!

At first I thought this was just going to be a wholesome, lighthearted and cute comic collection with adorable animal characters. And I mean... it was.
But then sometimes it would dig deeper, and cover more sensitive topics. But even if it did cover more hard stuff and hit me in the feels, it was still one of those books that truely did feel like a safe space to me and would wrap me in a hug. What really hit me about this book was the way in which it handled anxiety and other mental illness, with rabbit as one of the characters, and other topics. I personally saw myself in rabbit and hyena A LOT, and it made me cry seeing the other animals being so sweet, wholesome and supportive. This comic collection will definitely stay with me for a long time.
This comic with an adorable cast of animals revolves around the daily goings on at Cat’s Cafe. I loved how seamlessly it brought in each character’s personality traits and disabilities and mental health and showed how all the animals coexist and help each other out. More inclusive comics like this please! I can’t decide if my favorite character was the caffeine addicted Penguin or the nervous Bunny trying to learn the fast paced cafe job <3
Cat is the most adorable character everrrrrrrrr.
I did not expect this buttttt this book wasn't only cute but so sensitive about mental health, which is an important topic nowadays. I have anxiety and I couldn't appreciate more this book.
My heart was filled with love after reading this book
This book is a sample of how powerful illustration can be for the transmission of important messages. The interactions between a cat, a rabbit and the other animals that are clients of Cat's cafe lead us to think about empathy, mental health, respect for differences and the relevance of thinking about the other. Community.
I'm in love with Kiwi 😍
Matt Tarpley has created a wonderfully inclusive and caring world of characters that are all so adorable!! So many of the short comics are relatable and this title is a perfect pick-me-up book! I can see this selling well off counter displays!
I love cats. I love comics. I just cannot let this go unread.
This is wayyy too cute to pass up. I love it. The artstyle is very simple and cute.
This book has a series of comics, each about one page long, about a café run by a cat. All kinds of different animals go to the café, including a penguin, an elephant, and a snake. They each have their own problems and challenges in life, but they can all be themselves at the Cat Café.
There were some hilarious comics that really made me laugh. The penguin loved coffee. He asked for the biggest size, so that he could sit in it. Another funny comic was when an armadillo thought that a five out of five rating wasn’t right for the café. He thought it should be six or seven out of five, because it was so good.
Many of the comics were also about mental health and self esteem. The snake was quite lonely. One day, someone asked if the seat at his table was free, and he got excited because he though they would sit with him. When they took it away to their table, he was disappointed until they invited him to sit with them. These comics use real life examples to teach kids about mental health. The animals in the comics make them universal characters.
I really enjoyed this comic collection!

This made me feel all the feels! It's cute and funny and I want to hang out at Cat's Cafe and be friends with all the patrons! What a wonderful group of friends- they take care of each other because they care about each other, and there's always someone who will give support to those who need it. A lot of the animals here have some type of mental illness or issue- anxiety, low self esteem, difficulty making friends or reaching out to people, not being able to ask for help- and all these things and more are handled with kindness, support, and love, and I can't think of a better example of squad goals than this. The issues are relatable, the artwork is adorable, the feels are predominately warm and fuzzy- there are sad moments when you want to help whichever character is in need, but they get help, and we're even invited to help one of the characters too! Big love for this book, so much squee!

An adorable collection of comics that can be enjoyed by all. Matt Tarpley has a unique illustration style that really brings the characters to life on the page. You will definitely laugh more than once reading this collection.
4.5 stars.
This comic style is somewhat similar to the 4-coma manga. The story is short and simple with a cute artstyle. Most ones were quirky and funny while the rest were about self-acceptance and mental issues with some inspirational moments. My favorite characters were the penguin and the duck!
