Description

Miranda Trent has set up a sweet life in a scenic corner of Appalachia—until she stumbles across the trail of a killer . . .

After inheriting her uncle’s Red River Gorge homestead in Eastern Kentucky—smack dab in the middle of the Daniel Boone National Forest—Miranda comes up with a perfect business plan for summer tourists: pairing outdoor painting classes with sips of local moonshine, followed by a mouthwatering sampler of the best in southern cooking.

To Miranda’s delight, Paint & Shine is a total success—until someone kills the cook. As the town’s outsider, suspicion naturally falls on Miranda. Murdering the best biscuit baker of Red River Gorge is a high crime in these parts. Miranda will have to prove her innocence before she’s moved from farmhouse to jail cell faster than she can say “white lightning” . . .

“Set against the blazing backdrop of an Appalachian fall, Still Knife Painting serves up a tasty stew of murder and moonshine. In this series debut, Cheryl Hollon weaves a tale as complex and country as the antique braided rug that figures in the story.”
Barbara Ross, author of the Maine Clambake Mysteries

“Cozy mystery fans will make room on their keeper shelves for Hollon’s charming new series.”
Ellery Adams, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author

I enjoyed this book and look forward to more in the series to see who the next suspect is for the next murder. I'd like to know more about the two law officer's past difficulties as well. The mystery kept me guessing. I liked the characters as well.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book! The characters were interesting and complex. Miranda has moved into her uncle's house that he left her, and is trying to start up a new business. When murder happens it puts a damper on her success. Sandy, her puppy is precious! Lots of info about the way people are out in small country towns in Kentucky. I love the details the author puts in the story about her characters and the landscape. The story had a lot of twists and turns, different stories weaving throughout the book.I loved that the list of characters is listed at the end of the book and I loved that recipes for food and moonshine mixes are included at the back of the book. I am going to try the recipe for peanut butter potato pinwheels! I cannot wait for the next book in this series!

First in a new series. I enjoy Cheryl Hollon’s other series and this one did not disappoint.
I liked that this is the second series I have read that is set in the Daniel Boone National Forest. The descriptions are picturesque and inviting.

I liked the premise. There is a lot of potential to this series. It is well written, good character development, and fun. I learned a little about distilling and pairings.

Bonus- recipes at the end of the book and a list of characters
