Maximum Ride lost her fight to save the world. But from the ashes of the old world, a phoenix has risen… she calls herself Hawk.

Hawk doesn't know her real name. She doesn't know who her parents were, or where they went. The only thing she remembers is that they told to wait on a street corner until they came back for her.

That was ten years ago.

The day that she finally gives up waiting is the moment her life changes for ever. Because the promise becomes reality: someone is coming for her.

But it's not a rescue. It's an execution.

This is a fast-paced book that is great for people who enjoy dystopian thrillers. I hadn't realised it was a follow on from a previous series, but it is not necessary to read those. It will probably lead people to go back to that series while they are chomping at the bits for more Hawk!

Alone in the City of the Dead, where life is precarious, lives a teenage girl called Hawk and her gang of friends who are trying their best to survive .
Then chaos begins as her friends are imprisoned and she must use her wits to rescue them,. Then in a twist of fate her life is turned upside down as she meets a man who claims to be her father. Soon Hawk comes to realise she isn’t the only one who can fly.
In a whirlwind she meets a group called the flock and is told her parents are alive. They need her help to rescue them and her friends. Can she do it? Can she rescue Maximum Ride and help change the City of the Dead?
This is a welcome return to Maximum Ride and her flock, but the addition of Hawk takes the books to a new level.
For kids or adults this is a book you will devour.
James Patterson truly is at the top his game with this story. No one can produce books of this quality at such a high standard as often as James Patterson seems to.
An absolutely marvellous novel by the best in the business. I loved it!

Loved this book, it was great to revisit the characters from the Maximum Ride series that I had come to know and love previously and a lovely surprise after we thought there would be no more. The story line is good and keeps you wanting to read on and on, fast paced and exciting. Hawk is a new part of the storyline and the setting is now different from the previous we got used to and a number of years later. I think even if you've never read any of the series, this would still be an enjoyable read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. You can read this book without having read the Maximum Ride series, which is what I did.

Hawk is a young - but very tough girl - who has been waiting on the same street corner every day for the past 10 years waiting for someone to fetch her.

The book is full of adventure and will thrill readers between 10 and 15.

Hawk is part of a series that I have not read. This is however a novel that stands on its own.
I have read a lot of YA. This will appeal.
There is a dystopian society. Hawk lives on the streets after she was abandoned on the streets. She has a gang of other misfit teenagers. But she always waits on the corner every afternoon for her parents to return for her.
But she knows no one else who has wings. She lives at the Children's home, near the prison.
Lots of adventure, rescuing others, learning about themselves. The adults are often harsh. Families are those who have your back.
Good life messages in a fun way!

I started this yesterday morning and read all day until late until the evening this is by far the best book I have read in a long time. It deserves way more than 5 stars I just could not put it down The characters were amazing, honestly like nothing I'd ever read before I am hoping it could be part of a trilogy. Thank you James Patterson for this amazing book and thank you Netgalley for allowing me to review it. 50 stars!!

I hadn't realised that this was related to a previous series when I started reading it but it didn't matter as it worked very well as a standalone. It is set in a dystopian post-apocolyptic world ruled by a dictator and dominated by ruthless gangs and violence. Hawk starts the story waiting on the street corner her parents left her on, a corner dominated by gangs and Opes. Gradually we see that she is the caregiver for another group of abandoned children who live in a derelict children's home next to a prison. These children are failed experiments and even Hawk herself, with her wings, are the result of an experiment. These wings need to be kept secret but when they are revealed her world ill never be the same again.
Certainly fast paced and having some great characters. Yes, at times, Hawk becomes the angst ridden teenager she is but as this is a YA novel the general reader should relate to this. There's violence and cruel adults but overall the message is that family is who or what you choose it to be.

Another gripping, fast paced book by the master story-teller himself. James Patterson introduces us to characters so quickly and the action is non-stop. I loved the Maximum Ride series and this is a perfect introduction to a new set of characters intertwined with old favourites. The book does not depend on any prior knowledge of the previous series but will encourage readers to go back and explore them I am sure. As books for YA and those who are reluctant readers these books are perfect. I can't wait to go on the next adrenaline filled, emotional rollercoaster ride with Hawk.

Huge gratitude to the publisher, author and NetGalley for allowing me to read this copy.
