Good little read
I enjoyed this book, I read it in one sitting, I needed to know what would happen, who knew you could trust anyone while someone is stalking you.
From the opening page, I was engaged in this mystery/suspense novella. Julie goes on the run from an unknown stalker in Boston where the police have not been able to help her. She ends up in Vermont and at the Deerbourne Inn. Living undercover and trying to figure out what to do with her life she meets Joe a local craftsman who is immediately attracted to her. That said, he realizes Julie is in trouble and instead of pushing her into a romantic relationship, he tries to help her with the assistance of the local police.
This is my second Deerbourne Inn book. I love the small-town atmosphere and the interconnected characters. As a novella, this is a complete and well-done story. The characters are engaging, smart, and caring.
I look forward to reading more from this author.
When a stalker decides to make Julie their target, she flees the city she lives in, driving aimlessly until she reaches Vermont. Unfortunately, despite her attempt to shake off her stalker, they find out where she has gone anyway.
Talk about a suspenseful book! I couldn’t stop reading and I really wanted to know what happened next. Oh my. Joe is adorable. There are no words to describe how much I love him! I seriously love a good gentleman sweetheart, and Joe fits the bill perfectly. And his German shepherd companion! Honestly, this book was great, and even made me squeal at the end. A perfect blend of suspense and romance, all wrapped up in a short novella.
This is a cozy mystery for a rainy afternoon. The characters are involved in a stalking situation which keeps the reader wondering who. The setting is, at first, at a hotel, and moves to a residence of a man the protagonist meets. This is somewhat unbelievable because I can't imagine a woman moving in with a man she doesn't know when she has a stalker. Although this was a quick read, and I enjoyed most of it, perhaps there are relationships that need to be fleshed out. The protagonist shares little about her family; the man she falls in love with quickly shares little about his. The biggest issue I have with the story is that of the stalker...why? how? when? Some of these questions need to be answered in detail. All in all, if one enjoys quick mysteries that are light, this is a good one. If one wants more intrigue and details, skip this one.
He is Watching is a short story in the Deerbourne Inn series. I believe that these stories are all standalone stories written by different authors but set in and around the Deerbourne Inn. I didn't realise this with the first one of these books that I read, but I'd got it this time.
The story focuses on Julie Roy, a graphic designer from Boston. For months she's been stalked by someone unknown. Being sent photos from inside her flat to her work computer is the final straw and she flees with no real destination in mind. She finds herself staying at the Deerbourne Inn and it's there that she meets Joe Bascombe. Joe is drawn to her immediately, developing strong feelings for her. But Julie is battling her problems with her stalker.
I liked this short story, the romance between Joe and Julie works well and the chemistry between them is believable and enjoyable to watch. The stalking aspect of the story adds an extra level to things. This is only a short story, but it didn't feel that it was rushed or anything missed out. I really enjoyed it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book followed the typical - girl has problem, boy tries to fix it, problem gets fixed, they end up together. I was hoping for a twist, something, but felt let down. The ghost component - totally not needed and an unncessary delay in the story. As a previous resident of New England, I did appreciate the picture painted by the author of the area where Julie hid out. The area is gorgeous in the fall.
He is Watching is a well written romantic suspense. A real page turner of a plot. I look forward to reading more books in this series. I highly recommend this book. I received an arc from the publisher and this is my unbiased review.
