This is a beautiful cozy mystery, with excellent characters and setting. The suspense isn't overwhelming, but with good friends and dogs, as well as a mystery, it's a very entertaining book.
As Andi-Grace and Juliette get closer to the grand opening of the B&B they're finishing up some final projects and head off to meet Nate for some mulch. But when they arrive at the job site, they're almost run down first by a VW bug and then an SUV. When they look for Nate, they find a body under a pile of mulch and a knocked out Nate. When the police decide nate is the prime suspect since his tools were used to kill the man, Andi-Grace's protective instincts rise to the surface as she works to clear Nate's name and sniff out the true murderer.
I gotta tell ya, Andi-Grace is a girl after my own heart...we both love our family, friend and dogs, and my Momma hyphenated my first name too. This was the first book I have read in the series and there were no gaps, it reads fine as a stand alone. Looking forward to spending more time in Low country with the first book and future installments as well.
I received this ebook in exchange for an honest and fair review. This was a good book with mystery and murder. I enjoyed the plot as well as the characters.
I couldn’t put this book down!
I love dogs, and Andi-Grace is such a great character, that it was very easy to lose myself in this story.
When Andi-Grace stumbled upon a dead body, the last thing she expected was for her brother to become the prime suspect.
Nothing will stop her from asking questions, her family means everything to her, so leaving it up to the police is not an option.
I can’t wait to see what happens next to this cast of quirky, colorful characters.
This was a great book. I loved the characters ans their development throughout the story. Thw plor was well written with unexpected twists and turns.
Dog-Gone Dead is a wonderful addition to the Low Country Dog Walker Christian cozy mystery series with likable characters and an interesting cozy mystery! In this 2nd book in the series, Andi Grace and her friend Juliette are finishing some projects for the grand opening of the B&B. They get some mulch from Andi Grace's brother Nate, who has a landscaping business. What they didn't expect, to find is a body buried in the mulch which makes Nate the prime suspect. Andi Grace needs to clear his name and find another suspect for the police to focus on. This is an enjoyable Christian cozy mystery!
I received this ARC via Netgalley and Belle Books, Inc, in return for an honest review. This is the second book in this series. The protagonist, Andi-Grace, is opening a new B&B. While working on the landscaping, she and her best friend, Juliette, arrange to meet Andi-Grace’s brother, Nate, for some mulch at a local historic plantation. But they arrive on site to discover a body buried under a pile of mulch and Nate stumbling out of the woods and suffering from a concussion. When Nate becomes the prime suspect for the murder, Andi-Grace decides to find the murderer, while preparing the new B&B to open, as well as continuing her dog walking service and deepening a personal relationship with her friend and attorney, Marc Williams.
The story is a solid cozy. The characters are engaging, and the relationships build well. Some things would be easier with having read the first book before reading this one. For example, it’s the end of Chapter 5 where we learn that Andi-Grace inherited a plantation that she plans to open as a B&B. While these don’t detract from the story, there’s an expectation of background awareness for some of the story components.
I love cozy mysteries. Dog-Gone Dead is one of the best I've read. Andi Grace is a delightful, determined young woman who wants her brother freed. She snoops in all the wrong places and gets herself in trouble with the local police. As she solves this murder mystery she and her sweet dog will endear themselves to you. Just as they did me. And you just might find a bit of romance. I love the setting. Makes me want to head to the beach. I haven't read book one of the series, but I have it downloaded on my Kindle and ready to be read. If you enjoy clean, cozy mysteries, you'll love this book. Take this one on vacation! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Fun story, very clean. Killer was a surprise to me at the end. I love when characters are flawed and have issues. Not everyone has a wonderful childhood, a lot of people struggle and it's refreshing to read about characters who have come through on the other side.
I enjoyed the book even if the mystery wasn’t that exciting more of a Peyton Place kind of story. I did enjoy the characters and the smalltown feel. I loved how Andi Grace and her friends try to solve the mystery of Colby’s death. Everyone knows Nate didn’t do it.
Set in North Carolina, Andi Grace and her friend Juliette are about to open a B & B. Colby is found dead at the Plantation where Nate, Andi Grace’s brother, has also been attached. Nate becomes the prime suspect.
I was given an advanced copy of this book by Netgalley and am not required to leave a positive review.
Dog-Gone Dead is dog-gone good. An enjoyable series with likeable characters, nice setting and the ending was a bit of a surprise.. I especially like the family dynamics and supportive friendships. I have not read the first book in the series but it only took a little bit to feel caught up so this could easily be read as a stand alone.
Thanks to Bell Bridge Books and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.
This is the 2nd installment of the Low Country Dog Walker Mystery series. In this installment Andi Grace and her best friend Juliet are getting ready to open their B&B and agree to meet her Andi Grace's brother Nate at his landscaping job to pick up some mulch. Instead the girls find the dead body of Corey her friend Erin's husband. Her brother Nate's tools did the deed and he was knocked out with a shovel nearby. This is a good solid mystery with good and kind-hearted characters. Andi Grace's commitment to her family and friends is amazing and she does investigating but it is not over the top. I really enjoyed this book as well as the first one in the series. The mystery is good and I was surprised by who did it. Looking forward to the next installment.
Andi Grace is on the hunt for another killer. 2nd in the series. Fun characters and storyline for an easy read summer cozy mystery. Not a deep plot, but that’s fine. Highly recommend this book and author.
Book 2 in series. Love the protagonist name Andie Grace.
Great profession working with dogs.
Likeable secondary characters.
Several possible villians.
Look forward to more books by this author.
I haven't read book one in this series and I did feel as if it would have helped me to understand some of the things that were referenced when Andi Grace was talking about the plantation. At times I felt as if there was too much assumption made on the author's part that the reader would know who the characters were and where they fit in. I was sometimes confused. Some clarification would have helped. The story line about the murder was fine, if a bit too predictable.
Dog-Gone Dead by Jackie Layton is a solid addition to the Low Country Dog Walker cozy mystery series. Andi Grace and her friend Juliet find a body in the landscaping mulch and her brother Nate suffering from a concussion after a violent attack. When Nate is accused of the murder, Andi Grace takes matters into her own hands and starts to investigate.
I really enjoyed the coastal setting and the strong family/friend relationships, as well as the interactions with the dogs. The Christian faith of the author definitely comes through in the storyline. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy and all opinions are my own.
Andi Grace is working hard with her friend Juliet to get their new businesses up and running. Andi inherited the property, and Juliet will run a B&B on it. Andi's brother Nate picked up some mulch for them and they were to meet him an a job site to get it.
Upon their arrival they found an injured Nate ...and a body. Andi being naturally nosy would have snooped anyway, but the fact her brother was arrested for the murder ramped up, really ramped up her snooping.
The ladies along with her brother, Andi's lawyer/best friend (boyfriend?) and the local police looked into every lead and checked into each suspect...and there were plenty. Andi was pretty sure she knew who-dun-nit, and had her suspicions confirmed when the killer came for her.
Suitable for all, no sex or gore, but plenty of clues, red herrings and humor, with a bit of sweet romance to round it out. I really enjoyed it and plan to get the one I missed.
I requested and received a NetGalley to peruse and offer my opinion gratis.
While getting mulch for the garden at their new B&B, Andi Grace and her friend Juliet discover the body of a friend's husband, buried in the mulch. Andi Grace's brother Nate becomes the number one suspect however, Andi Grace is determined to find the real killer...even if it means risking her life!
I liked this book and the character of Andi Grace. She's a mature and calm presence in the book. Her positive outlook and Christian faith keeps her motivated to find out who murdered Corey. Juliet, her best friend, has a crush on Nate and is her partner in sleuthing.
This was the first book, in the series, I've read and I'm going to read the first two.!
I received an ARC from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
The second book in A Low Country Dog Walker Mystery, Dog-Gone Dead is an enjoyable read. Good character dynamics, enticing settings and al over all well delivered storyline made this and wonderful story. I will recommend this book and series and will read more by this author.
I liked this book every bit as good as I did the first one! Either one of
them works fine as a stand-alone but wow, reading them both together
was amazing. There is a good amount of dog issues to make it a wonderful
mystery for dog lovers.
Thank you so much, NetGalley, Jackie Layton, and your publisher for giving
me the chance to read and review these wonderful mysteries!
This is the second book in the "Low country Dog Walker Mystery Series. I have read the first in this charming series and highly recommend the series .. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity.
My review opinions are my own.
In this next in series we return to Andi Scott who has received a load of mulch from her Brother. When she finds a body under the mulch her Brother is suspect number one . In order to clear him she must investigate on her own and along the way finds more red herrings then answers.
I love the dog walker mysteries for of course the dog aspect but also for the well crafted enjoyable mystery and charcters. I look forward to the next in series.
Dog Gone Dead is a terrific cozy mystery. Great plot, characters and setting. Love the main character. A great series. Mystery fans will love this book. I received an advance ebook from the publisher and this is my unbiased review.
An excellent cozy mystery, engrossing and entertaining.
The cast of characters is likable and fleshed out, the setting interesting, and the solid mystery kept me guessing.
It's the first book I read in this series and won't surely be the last.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
Dog-Gone Dead by Jackie Layton is the second book in the Low Country Dog Walker Mystery series. Dog walker Andi Grace and her friend Juliet are going to pick up mulch from Andi Grace's brother, Nate, at a job site. They find a body and Andi Grace's injured brother. Even with his injuries, Nate is the police's main suspect. Andi Grace and her friends are determined to solve the mystery. I liked the combination of a B&B (run by Juliet) and a dog business (run by Andi Grace). The southern setting is wonderful, and the mystery kept me waffling back and forth between suspects. I look forward to the next installment.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were complex and relatable, and the addition of dogs made it even more fun. I liked the setting of the book, as well as the plot and storyline which I think was well written.
This was my first Low Country Dog Walker mystery and I do believe that it will not be my last. One thing that stood out to me that makes this cozy different than any other that I have read is the amount of faith that is a part of the central character and her supportive family and friends. It was refreshingly different and was that little something extra that makes me want to read not only the first book but also any future novels that come out as well. Andi Grace, what an unusual name, is a very responsible and caring person who has all the classic cozy character traits. She exhumes grace under pressure as she balances professional pet care, Kennady’s B&B ownership, and building renovations as she works tirelessly to get her brother, Nate, off of the top of the murder suspect list. The victim was a womanizer, a bad gambler, and an embezzler who awarded landscaping and maintenance jobs based on graft. Plenty of people would be happy to see him gone from his wife to a prestigious Richard Rice Plantation board member. This is a tale that twists not unlike a little pug dog’s tail. If there is one thing that Andi Grace has learned from the fatal crash that took her parents is that you must have faith and that the people of Heyward Beach are there for one another through thick and thin, even when the Sheriff’s office would like for Andi Grace to be a little less there in the middle of their investigation.
DOG-GONE DEAD is the second book in this cozy mystery series. Andi Grace is a sweet southern woman who loves dogs and mysteries. A host of characters who all knew Andi Grace since way back when--friends and enemies alike.
There is a host of red herrings in the story--any one of which could have done it. That made it super hard to figure out who-dun-it.
The characters were super likable and I downloaded book one to find out that story.
There is a sweet beginning romance and a weak faith message.
I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.
Andi -Grace has been promised free mulch for her b & b , going to collect it she comes across a dead body. Unfortunately, her brother is the prime suspect and Andi decides to do some sleuthing to clear her brother's name. The characters are believable, there's lots of dogs and it's a good cosy mystery.
This was such a fun cozy! I love the characters, setting, and the ending. The book was well-written, and I enjoyed seeing the family dynamics and supportive friendships.
Andi Grace is a breath of fresh air. She is kind, compassionate and curious! She and her best friend Juliet begin to add final touches to the B&B. Her brother Nate finds himself in hot water after being attacked. Andi Grace is determined to prove her brothers innocents. All the while opening a new business, finding a love interest and keeping up with her current dog walking clients. This was a fun and well written mystery.

Dog-Gone Dead is the second installment in the A Low Country Dog Walker Mystery series set in South Carolina and featuring dog walker/plantation owner Andi Grace Scott. Andi Grace is working to convert her recently inherited Kennady Planation into a Bed and Breakfast and Doggie Daycare alongside her best friend, Juliet Reed. An early morning trip to a neighboring plantation to pick up a load of mulch from her brother, Nate leads to the discovery of the body of Corey Lane. Nate is found badly beaten and unconscious nearby.
Police believe that bad blood between Corey and Nate led to a vicious fight between the two men and Nate murdered Corey in a fit of rage. Andi Grace knows that her brother is not a killer and sets out with the help of her friend and lawyer, Marc Williams to track down the real murderer.
Andi Grace quickly learns that Corey has a history of blackmailing members of the tight knit community, an out of control gambling addiction and has also been engaged in an extramarital affair. With a long list of suspects, Andi Grace and her canine partner, Sunny have their work cut out to clear her brother's name.
A well written plot that combines a murder/mystery with a touching family dynamic and burgeoning relationships. Pet lovers will delight at the interaction between Andi Grace and Sunny and Andi Grace's continued efforts to match people with their forever furry friends. A series that will bring a smile to your face.

Dog-Gone Dead by Jackie Layton
Low country dog walker, Andi Grace vScott, is happy to score some free mulch from one of her brother’s landscaping jobs - until she discovers the dead body beneath the bark. Worse, her brother’s landscaping tools were used to commit the murder.
I loved this book. It had everything: murder, suspense, romance and running a B&B plus a doggy day care. Can’t wait to to read another one of this author’s books. Andi Grace was a lovely and curious character. I recommend this book.
