Advance Praise

“British author Christopher Lloyd brings personality and humor to the narration of his entertaining and informative history of the world from the big bang to the present day. In just over six hours, this audiobook presents a brief but vivid journey through geological time and the progression of mostly Western human civilization. Music separates each chapter and helps set the stage for the next chronological era in history, which ranges from dinosaurs to the birth of modern humans, ancient civilizations, classical empires, the Industrial Revolution, both World Wars, and current global warming. Lloyd's enthusiastic narration highlights the drama of the incredible events that shaped our world, and should spark listeners' fascination.”

This audiobook is so perfect for homeschooling families, and parents who want to introduce the entire history of the world in an easy to understand format. It covers everything from the Big Bang to the present day. That is obviously a lot to cover in less than 8 hours of audio, but each topic is given enough information to get the general overview of the topic.

The chapters are broken up into short segments of about 20-30 minutes that are the perfect size for a history study each morning/evening. There is enough detail to give the general idea about the historical time period/topic discussed to grab a child's interest and lead to jumping off points for further research on the subject.

The narrator (who is also the book's author) makes the subjects even more interesting. His enthusiasm and inflection were so engaging. It was easy to want to keep listening because he brought the topics to life. My kids overheard me listening and asked me to restart the chapter because they wanted to know "how the story started." That is a true testament to how strong the narration is. It does feel like listening to a storyteller with how easy it is to listen to.

The hardcover of this book already holds a place on our homeschool shelves, but we will be adding the audiobook as well. They complement each other well and the audio truly enhances the book's information. I think this is a must buy for parents who want their child to be engaged with their history studies through the interesting topics and the top-notch narration.

Christopher Lloyd’s narration of this book makes the abundance of facts irrisistable and completely compelling and impossible to turn off. I am learning so much and could listen to him for hours.

This is an incredibly comprehensive yet condensed history of (as the title implies) everything.
Lloyd goes back to the very beginning of everything and makes his way to modern times while giving information on topics from biology to history and so many other things in between that I could write a thousand-word essay on just what gets talked about in this book.
It's one of those books that gives you a little bit of information on a myriad of topics so you can always have an interesting fact on hand to impress others or so you can know where to start looking further into something that interests you.
The way everything is presented is also very jovial and even a little bit playful, so you never really feel like you're starting to tune out from droning like one is won't to do when being talked at. The audiobook lacks the images to go with what's being presented, but it more than makes up for it with how delighted Lloyd seems at sharing all this information with listeners. Also, the English accent plays into the wise professor image that has been drilled into us by popular media and makes this an even better listen because of it. Although, I admit to cracking a smile at how he pronounces some of the names of things. Took me a couple of tries to figure out Maya.
Overall, very informative, very easy to listen to, and very well presented. This is definitely a good book to have on hand for when you're feeling like you want to learn something but don't want to do it in a boring way.

Many thanks to NetGalley and What on Earth Books for the read/listen.

Wow! I can't express enough how much I loved this book! I received an audio copy through NetGalley and my family and I all listened to it together. While I believe it is technically a book for youth, it is 100% a book that everyone should read. It is a concise history of absolutely everything, and zooming back through time it is very interesting to see how much Earth has changed, and how it is very much the same after so many thousands of years. Author, Christopher Lloyd (no, not THAT Christopher Lloyd), includes a lot of material in this compendium, chock full of intriguing stories on how the earth came to be, the history of wars, climates, animals, cultures, inventions, and so much more. You name it, this book has ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!

If you believe "knowledge is wealth", then Absolutely Everything! is a treasure trove. It encompasses almost everything that had occurred in the past, from the inception of time to the dinosaurs walking the face of the earth, from the big bang to modern day wars and revolutions. In each chapter, the author speaks on the 'how', 'what' and 'why' the specific event occurred; and how it shapes our present days. Accompanied with breathtaking illustrations which will visually enchant any readers beyond imagination, I believe this book belongs to every library, home and school and not only that reading it will improve your comprehrension on contrasting topics with salient analysis. Encompassing such vast, culturally diverse and of historic importance shows the great deal of research that went into the creation of the book. The author has maintained the authenticity of each fact and articulated them in a lucid and all- appealing mannerism.

My kids really enjoyed listening to this audiobook and so did I. We would listen in the car on the way to school and every morning and afternoon. We all learned a lot of tidbits and the talking points are great starter topics when we would have dinner together at night.

Absolutely Everything! is an outstanding children's audiobook that introduces prehistorical and historical facts in a highly entertaining and approachable way. It's been a few decades since I could claim to be a child, but I am not too proud to admit I still learned a heck of a lot from this book.

Absolutely Everything is an enjoyable romp through history that is geared towards older Middle School readers (but those of us a 'little' north of our early teen years can enjoy it too). It comes in print format (with amazing illustrations, so I've heard) but I listened to an eAudiobook version and really enjoyed it.

I LOVE how in-depth and well researched this book is! It has a writing style that makes complex information very easy to understand! I have a science background, but still found this very informative, like taking a mental trip to a museum and actually getting to absorb all of the exhibit's information. The narration was wonderful and the content was informative AND fun, a difficult balance to strike. I definitely recommend this book!

Absolutely Everything!: A History of Earth, Dinosaurs, Rulers, Robots and Other Things Too Numerous to Mention connects history, nature, and science in an incredibly informative history of the world, from the beginning of time to the present day. Although I probably did not retain as much of the information because of the audiobook format, the narrator and author Christopher Lloyd is completely entertaining. He makes history sound so exciting and inviting at the same time. The history of the world is an immense undertaking, but the author does a great job of hitting the highlights.

I learned so many tidbits about the history of the world, including the first way that books were printed, inventions that shaped the way that humans lived, and a basic timeline when things happened. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book and appreciated the fact that I could listen a little bit at a time and not feel lost.

I recommend Absolutely Everything!: A History of Earth, Dinosaurs, Rulers, Robots, and Other Things Too for a family roadtrip, nightly reading with the kids, or even for those looking to brush up on their world history.

Thank you for Netgalley and Publisher Spotlight Audio for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When I was a child I was absolutely obsessed with books like this, I wanted to know why, where, when and how everything happened. As an adult I am still the same and question most things. This book is fantastic for children and adults alike and filled with the most amazing information. From the Big Bang theory, dinosaurs, climate change just to mention a few subjects. The narrators who happens to be the author is great to listen to and you can hear his enthusiasm throughout the book. Listening, I felt like I had just pulled up to an amusement ride and was going on a tour of Jurassic Park and the world. It was more of an experience than just an audiobook.

Just brilliant! I would recommend this to everyone I know. I bet it would also be great in schools to keep the children entertained whilst learning about the amazing history of the earth. In fact I think I will purchasing a couple of copies of the paper version as I hear, it has beautiful illustrated to give them as Christmas presents to my godsons.

The narrator of the audiobook, who is also the author, was fantastic and he made the book really fun and easy to listen to. This would be a great book to have in a school, in ebook, hardcover and audiobook versions. It would make history lessons more fun! It would also be awesome for homeschooled children. Highly recommended!

I have so many good things to say about this (audio)book! Firstly, the author does a great job narrating his book and kept us thoroughly engrossed and entertained throughout and overall was very easy to listen to alongside two young children (bonus!). There was such a breadth of world history included - that even I, as a parent/home educator, learned and re-learned so many things! I enjoyed it so much and am keen to add a paperback/hardcover copy to our home library for reference!
