The Other Girl is a fabulous book. Great writing, highly atmospheric and a chilling plot, with a fascinating background. I loved everything about it, from beginning to end - Edith in the past and present, Declan's determination to help her and the creepy asylum setting (with its patients and medical staff). I couldn't tear myself away from it. Excellent stuff!

Imagine reading the exorcist but where the only person who is telling the truth is Regan.
This was a marvellous read, gripping from the very start, and builds layer upon layer of tension.
One girl, trapped between lives and surrounded by people in charge ranging from indifferent to downright sinister. The real protagonist, a new doctor who is obsessed with saving her finds himself blocked at every turn and the mounting fear and alarm is palpable.
The setting is beautiful and the description of a 1940s asylum is so evocative you can almost imagine yourself there.
While there are twists and turns along the way, what really sets this novel apart is it’s exploration of characters and the questions it asks about the nature of insanity. If enough people think you are mad, do you become so?
So good I read it all in one sitting, and wanted more when I finished it.
