Description

As the only female cabinet maker in the valley in 1935, Frankie Redfern is unusual. She faces prejudice even from her own mother. But she's content working for her father, and is unwilling to give up her independence or the work she loves for marriage.

When her husband falls gravely ill, Frankie's mother takes over, causing serious trouble for her daughter. And her cousin, an unscrupulous local builder, starts to help her for his own reasons.

Jericho Harte has never met a woman he wanted to marry until he bumps into Frankie on the moors. When she comes to him the next day with an extraordinary suggestion, it seems a marriage of convenience might suit them both. Or could their relationship become more than that?

But Frankie's problems worsen as her father goes missing from hospital. Is there more to his illness than met the eye?

Can Frankie and Jericho help uncover the truth and put an end to the danger she's in before it's too late?

I was engrossed in this book from the beginning. I absolutely loved the way that Anna portrayed all of the characters. I would highly recommend this brilliant book as it will make you want to keep reading until the final page. I’m also feeling disappointment today because I won’t be eager to read my book today because unfortunately I’ve finished reading it last night. I’m really looking forward to Anna’s next book. Thank you for enabling me to read and review this book I would highly recommend it especially if you enjoy reading books by Catherine Cookson, Dilly Court etc.

Anna Jacobs has done it again! Now, I will admit that I am already a fan of her work, so I already knew that I would love this book. But even I was surprised by how well written and well plotted ‘A Woman’s Promise’ turn out to be.

To be fair, I’ve not actually read that many of Anna Jacobs previous books, although I did recently devour the entirety of the Kershaw sister series in just a few short days. But I can already see that she is one of those authors who is just meant to write, and all of her stories are so distinct and imaginative, something which can be hard to find when considering books of this genre.

I was also surprised by how little it mattered that I hadn’t read the previous books in the series. This is something I’ve found with her previous work too - whilst having read the other books in the series will certainly add to your enjoyment, it doesn’t matter at all if you’ve not read them. Case in point - this books is the third in a series, and I at no point was in any way affected by not having read the others (although I’m planning to anyway!).

All in all, a wonderful book, exactly what you’d expect from an author of this standard. She is one of those rare authors who continually writes really good and enjoyable books, and I recommend this one wholeheartedly.

Disclaimer - I was fortunate enough to receive an advance reading copy of this book from the publisher in conjunction with NetGalley. This has not affected my review in any way, and all opinions are my own

Just when you think that an author cannot possibly pull another master piece out of the hat, and then wow she does. Fast my becoming my favourite author.

This is captivating, read it in no time as I could hardly put it down. It’s got everything, people you recognise instantly, lovely new characters and what book would be complete without the usual smattering of bad guys. Frankie sounds such a lovely independent person without her troubles to seek. By equal measures Mrs Redfern sounds just as evil.

Love it when the old characters pop up like old friends, you just know it will be safe with them around. Sergeant Deemer is a favourite, does he get his extra constable ?

Worthy of all ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ And I’d definitely recommend it.

Another lovely tale from the pen of Anna Jacobs, packed with her usual villains and a love story! I really enjoyed this one.

Thanks to Net Galley for granting me this book. Book 3 of the series - I have read and enjoyed the previous two. This book was extremely enjoyable and based on Frankie Redfern, the only female cabinet maker in 1935. Her mother is an absolutely awful person who makes her life a misery and her dad’s too.. She faces prejudice from the village originally and life is pretty tough. However there are lots of twists and turns in her new life and following a marriage of convenience to Jericho things are on the up. Would recommend this book which easily follows on from the previous two and is a lovely read.

This whole series of books from Anna Jacobs has been a pleasure to read. The story line is strong and enjoyable and Frankie is a firm believer in the right to choose your own way in life and to take a risk.
