A runner's death leads Montreal cop down the rabbit hole🚨🚔
For a shorter length police procedural, I thought the plot was pretty compelling. Montreal police detective Lieutenant Beaudry takes full advantage of the contacts he has made on both sides of the law to nab the murderer of a woman runner in the Mount Royal area of Montreal. If he can help solve other crimes and rescue vulnerable kids along the way it's all to the better. His live-in girlfriend seems to be his secret weapon and happy to help with an information hack here and there.
His investigation's extension into child exploitation was an interesting addition but the author only really skims the issue. The poor original murder victim sort of gets left behind if not totally forgotten once endangered children come into the picture.
I thought it was a good plot and I liked Beaudry, maverick though he is. Not a classic or must-read, but an enjoyable chase. I would happily read other works by the author.
Thanks to Books Go Social and NetGalley for providing an advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
First and foremost this is my first read by Michael Kent. I don’t normally read thrillers or crime. But every now and then I like to branch out and this one was quite a surprise.
The story begins with Lieutenant Beaudry, a well known and quite popular policeman who prefers to work alone. And has the highest rating of closed records, not including the most interviews for his work. Essentially he is the one you got to if you have a case you cannot solve.
In Dead Run, woman’s body is found along a trial. After being identified the suspects turns out to be her boyfriend. All the while a ten year old girl goes missing, seemingly abducted. Luckily, the lieutenant has contacts that hover just above criminal. And its going to take both sides of the law to come to a conclusion on this one. All in all I enjoyed it, what keeps you interested is the main character himself as he is funny to the point of sarcastic.
I had no clue when I asked to read this one that is in a series and is the sixth one but it can be read as a stand-alone.
Thanks to Netfalley and the publisher BooksGoSocial for allowing me to read the ARC.
this was a really enjoyable read, the mystery part was great and I really enjoyed going through this mystery.
The charming renegade detective, Lieutenant Beaudry, does it again. Using his fearless tactics and personal connections with other tough cops and a few friendly gangsters, he finds the trail from a murder to a child pornography ring. With a few amusing detours into sentimental romance to lighten the darkness.
This is part of series but can certainly be read as a stand alone book.
It is fairly short and moves along at good pace keeping you engaged all the way.
The characters are well developed and the ineraction brings a smile to your face.
Well worth a read if you want something quick.
Loved this one! So easy to read and lots of twists and turns along the way. Definitely a quick read and one I recommend.
