Description
"Hey," I felt a warm hand reach out towards mine. I tried to avoid it, not wanting him to get the satisfaction of seeing how my body reacted to his, but he was too quick. Warmth spread, tingles spreading like wildfire up my arm.
I pulled away quickly and turned to face him. I kept my face straight, determined to make him leave me alone.
Decades ago, the lycan Tyrant Lord began to conquer every werewolf pack he came across, laying waste to all who refused to submit and ruled over those too weak to defy him. His kind was blessed with superior abilities; Lycans being stronger, bigger, and faster than the werewolves. It didn't take them long to cause considerable damage to the wolves. Until the Deserter came. The prince betrayed his father by calling upon the Reapers to end the war. Since then, the lycans and wolves have been separated, fear preventing them from co-existing with one another. Until now.
Wendigos were thought to be extinct. A cannibalistic breed, half-human and half-wolf, driven by madness and hunger. However, sightings are becoming more frequent, forcing the werewolves to seek help from the lycans to stop them before it's too late.
"Don't do that." His voice was low and soft as he took a step closer, not caring that he was invading my personal bubble. I had to tilt my head back to look at him, his dark eyes softening the longer I looked. One of his hands slowly rose, causing me to inhale sharply. I froze, unsure what he intended to do. Was he really going to touch me? After everything? He slipped some hair behind my ear and out of my face. "Don't shut me out, Selene." His voice was pleading, something I assumed didn't happen often.
I glanced away, conflicted. A part of me really wanted nothing to do with him, but an even bigger part was just afraid. I didn't want to have him and lose him like I had with Gabby. I shook my head and took a step back. "I'm sorry."

I just discovered this author with this book and I don't regret it !!
Beast was an awesome reading, a little bit confusing too, if I'm really honest .
We meet our main female character at the beginning and suddenly, the maain male character meet her too, and the next chapter, it's 6 years later, so ok, but kind of condusing for me not to have been warned about it !!
Other than that, the story is great, and the characters too.
I never really liked Selene's pack members and on the end, I don't regret not liking them, with the way the story goes.
I don't know if it's this author first book, but it was really good.
I was drawn to this book with the mention of werewolves, lycans and wendigoes. With a combination like that, I figured it would keep me interested. Also, I was looking for a good paranormal to "cleanse my palate" from some of my recent reads.
I found Selene, our heroine, to be relatable. Aside from the obvious fact that she's a supernatural creature, she battles insecurities about her family. She grieves the loss of her sister and mother intensely. All of the loss she's experienced makes her fearful of attaching herself to anyone else. It's almost as if she feels destined to be alone. However, she definitely isn't. She does finally meet her mate, but it takes a while for her to actually "meet" him. Yes, I know how odd that sounds, but it makes sense when you read the book.
I really liked the intrigue between the werewolves and lycans. Also, the dangerous element added via the wendigoes keeps the reader even more pulled into the story. I did want more history of the rivalry between the werewolves and lycans - - as well as some of the characters and why their attitudes were the way they were. I also really felt like there should have been a little more "heat" between Selene and her mate once they were finally together.
I was a big fan of some of the secondary characters. They added a lot of flavor to the story, in my opinion. Overally, this was a good story. I just felt that it needed a little more "something" to make it a great book. I would definitely read other books by this author.
Thank you to NetGalley for this review in exchange for my honest opinion.
I love a good werewolf story & this one didn’t disappoint. A sexy love story, action, great characters & friendships. I really enjoyed it & I really hope there’s more to come.
Loved it. Such a well told story. It was short but well rounded and very well done. Anyone who is a fan of the supernatural will like this one.
