Description
New England cop turned Las Vegas P.I. Joe Roddick thinks his luck has changed. But when he takes on what seems like an easy location case from the Lucky Hearts Casino his easygoing life explodes.
A professional hitman known as The Scorpion has arrived in Sin City, looking for the same man. After being shot, Roddick realizes he, too, is on someone's hit list. While he recovers, his tech-savvy daughter Kaylee takes revenge into her own hands.
Meanwhile The Scorpion is on the hunt, leaving a mounting body count in his wake. Clearly more than gambling is going on at the Lucky Hearts. Will Roddick be able to expose the operation before The Scorpion silences everyone in his path—including Roddick and Kaylee?

I felt like I was in old time Vegas. Yet it wasn't it was the present time Vegas. An ex cop who turns into a private investigator. I thought he was Philip Marlowe with the loving daughter Kaylee who helps dad to tick off her mother. Did i enjoy this book yes I did. The author Grant Bywaters did drag it on in parts when it came to the hit man who was leaving bodies everywhere. Roddrick the P.I. steps into tracking down the Scorpion who is killing off people in the gaming business. Until Roddrick and Kaylee find themselves in the path of the Scorpion and have to find and end before the Scorpion does them in. The author was very colorful in describing Vegas with all it glitz and glamour. The characters were well developed and I liked that he wrote Kaylee as a very smart college girl looking to be with her dad and get involved in his business. Especially when her dad is hurt and almost dies. Its a story of love between and father and daughter. A story of revenge and thrill. The way it ended I hope there is a book two. Mr. Bywaters has more stories to be written about Kaylee and her dad.
This was reminiscent of early CSI television shows. Lots of great detail on how a PI goes about his business but also some really touching moments when we see the protagonist and his daughter relating. I liked the gritty prose which was in alignment with the sense of being on the darker side of the tracks in Las Vegas. A great read for traditional mystery fans who enjoy strong character building.
