I adore tea, so when I read BOBA’s 50 delicious recipes and swooned over the gorgeous color photos, I knew I’d found nirvana. You’ll rely on natural ingredients to make these “bubble” teas that originated in Taiwan, including milk, fruit, or specialty teas along with sinful Sip 'N' Dips crafted with ice cream. My faves are the Watermelon + Strawberry Black Tea and the Black Tea topped with vanilla ice cream. Yum!!

What a wonderful book. I learned so much from about bubble tea. I am not sure I can make boba myself. I get too easily distracted to watch a pot carefully. I am very excited to try new and varied flavors of bubble tea now.

"Boba" is more than just your average book about boba/bubble tea. "Boba" introduces you to the authors through personal stories featuring fun real-life, fall-flat on your face, comical snippets of their lives. If you have ever wondered how great chefs or entrepreneurs get to where they are and what kind of obstacles we there on the way, Stacy and Beyah show you in technicolor (all the while introducing you to the art and delicious-ness that is boba). I am so happy this book came out because I can now get my boba - fix when I have left "civilization". The reader is given recipes along with the tools to recreate boba from home (and spoiler, you don't just have to use tapioca balls - the authors teach you how to make other toppings from home too).

Boba is a tutorial guide to the trendy and popular drink with included recipes by Stacey Kwong & Beyah del Mundo. Due out 27th Oct 2020 from Quarto on their Rock Point imprint, it's 144 pages and will be available in hardcover format.

This book is a wonderful resource, especially for fans of bubble tea who find it difficult to source their daily drinks or are thinking about the cost over the long run. Plus it's so much fun to DIY!

It has a nice, easy to follow layout. The introductory chapter and how-to tutorial (~30% of the content) cover the basic hows and whys of the tools, ingredients, and toppings. The following chapters cover the standards: fruit teas, milk teas, and specialty drinks.

Each of the recipes includes an introductory description, ingredients listed in a bullet point sidebar (US measurements with metric/SI units in parentheses *yay*!), step by step instructions, as well a footers with tips and alternatives. One of the high points of the book for me are the photographs. They're high quality and clear - and serving suggestions are appealing and appropriate. Really beautiful drinks.

The recipe ingredients themselves are (mostly) easily sourced and will be available at well stocked grocery stores. There are a very few ingredients which might be a little more difficult to source, but definitely nothing that is 'way out there'.

All in all, -very- well written, beautifully presented drinks, made from (mostly) tasty ingredients which are easily sourced.

Five stars, we'll be revisiting this recipe book often. I have to say that I also really loved the grit and determination and open honesty of the authors about their journeys and their "artistic vision". Well done and impressive!

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Wow! These recipes looked amazing! To boba fans, die-hard tea drinkers or anyone looking to shake things up a bit in their routine, these recipes are you! The actual boba process itself looks a bit challenging, but the encouraging words of these authors offer a refreshing permissive approach to making mistakes as a means to mastering the process. Once you've made your boba, the drink recipes are fun and seem fairly easy. A quite nice variety as well; I was particularly excited to see a Thai tea recipe!

My one criticism is that the initial ingredients section of the book felt a little bit disorganized and hard to follow, thought the layout on my tablet was a bit funky so my perception may be based on that. I'm so excited for this book to come out! I'll be one of the first to buy it, for both my bookstore and myself!

What a fun, cool and inspiring book! I loved getting read about the history of Boba and learn how to make so many different recipes. I cannot wait to give these a try!
This would make an excellent gift!

I am obsessed with all things tea, and that certainly includes the bubble tea variety. I was so excited when I seen this book was available to request, as I've always wanted to learn a little more about the delicious drink that I know and love!!

This book holds the story of two business partners and how they came to be in the boba business. It was really interesting and inspiring to hear about how they've built their business, but also a little about their failures and how hard that can actually be. Their recipes sound AMAZING, and if I was in LA I'd be on the way to their store right now.

I'm not sure how adept I would be at making the boba themselves. But it was still wonderful to learn more about them. I think it'll definitely be something fun to try one day. In the meantime, I can't wait to try a few of the milk tea recipes, as that's the best part of a bubble tea.

I can't fault this one, it was exactly what I wanted. It wasn't too heavy on the details for a beginner like myself, and everything sounds delicious and I want one of everything and I want it right now!

I'm literally obsessed with bubble tea. I hate to buy it frequently because it's just gets so expensive. This book is an absolute GOLD MINE of detailed recipes paired with mouth-watering photographs.

Not only does this book contain recipes for all of my favorite drinks and more, but they come from an established Asian American bubble tea shop. Getting my hands on this book seriously feels like your favorite restaurant just gave you all their secret recipes for that favorite dish. I mean, it's unbelievable.

I can't wait to try literally every recipe in this prefect little book.

A cool cookbook for fans of boba or bubble tea! I really liked that it taught and provided recipes and suggestions for each stage of making a delicious bubble tea! I have saved a few of the recipes and can't wait to try them out in the future!

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for letting me review this book.
I'm a huge fan of Milk+T, I've been to their LA location several times and their self-serve boba drinks are delicious! Now that it is not as easily accessible to get my own boba tea, I found these recipes very doable. I enjoyed the anecdotes behind the scenes and how my favorite Sip 'N Dip drink came to life. I think this recipe book is for perfect for those who want their own drinks all the time and would be a great drink to serve for family gatherings/future parties, etc.

I love boba and it was clear that the authors of this book did too. I almost felt like there was too much about the authors and other boba drink components (i.e. chia seeds, kiwi jam, etc) and not enough about the boba itself or the fully developed drinks. That was the main reason for 4 stars instead of 5. I do think that the review file makes it hard to appreciate some of the photos so I tried not to let that influence me. There were also some pages that were upside down or rotated, which also added to the difficulty of proper review. I feel like this would be a great coffee table/kitchen decor book gift for someone who is into boba. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review!

A lovely little cookbook for the Boba set. Stacey Kwong & Beyah del Mundo lay out the basics of creating many different Bubble Teas, from the fruity to the milky to the teal-less (and caffeine-free) delights for the younger set. Along the way, they tell the story of creating and building their Boba shops, from their first meeting to the three spots they run today.
It was really interesting to learn that those popular 5- minute tapioca pearls aren't up to professional standards and why. And who would ever have thought about making their own boba from scratch? (You don't have to, but it would be fun to do it at least once!) A really fun book if you're a boba lover!

I love boba, I've been living in Taiwan and visited the original place where Boba was created, so I loved reading about and the recipes, I hope I could try them soon

Boba is written by the duo behind MILK+T, the first self-serve boba bar. In addition to the founders sharing their entrepreneurship story, this story shows you how bubble tea is made with several recipes. From making your own tapioca pearls to syrups to brewing the tea, Boba includes everything that you need to get started with making your own bubble tea.

So reviewing recipe books is something that I don’t usually do (and in fact, I never have before). But when I came across Boba, I knew this was a book I wanted to read and try the recipes for. I’ve been drinking bubble tea since high school, and have always wondered how the tea (and especially the pearls) were made. Boba does just that, intertwined with stories about MILK+TEA and the founders, and how they found their business together.

After reading this book, I gathered some ingredients for supplies. The writers mentioned the difference in quality in ‘5-minute-boba’ brands and making the pearls from tapioca flour yourself. I wanted to try this for myself, and it’s true – there’s definitely a difference.

There’s definitely a few time-sensitive elements to making bubble tea, but this is something I think I’ll get the hang of in the future. I’m looking forward to drinking more of it now that I know how it’s made! While I do wish there were some instructional images rather than just the final product, I found the instructions pretty easy to follow.

In addition to more traditional recipes, Boba provides interesting twists to the classic recipe, many of which come from MILK+TEA. Inside this book are several recipes for different fruit syrups and recipes to use them in. There’s also a whole section on different toppings. Finally, there’s a section on some of the special recipes used at MILK+TEA, many of which using ingredients like ice cream.

Overall, Boba was an informative recipe book! I learned exactly what I needed to about making boba in my home, as well as how to create more advanced recipes. If you enjoy bubble tea as well and want to learn how it’s made or try your hand at making some yourself, this book will do just that.

This book is perfect for fan of Boba. It goes through the history of Boba and how it came to be as well as having all the information and tools you need to make your own Boba to rival those from the best. The colour palette and pictures within this book are gorgeous and beautifully fit the vibe of the book.

Beautifully designed book! Simplistic and informative. I’ve been an avid boba tea drinker, and was very intrigued to read this cookbook. I loved how “Boba basics” was included and it really gave a lot information. The recipes range from basic staples to exotic flavors! Added bonus there were recipes for sweeteners and syrups to make your boba tea extra nice! My favorite recipe was the Almond Butter milk tea! Highly recommend this cookbook if you are interested in making your own boba tea!

this is the cutest book!! I have seen these two ladies on Youtube and can attest to how great they are. Anyone who sees the Boba drinks or drinks them all of the time can read this and find out so much about it. There are recipes throughout, while also showing you how to make everything that comes in a drink.

Easily one of the loveliest cookbooks I’ve had the pleasure of reading! It isn’t very often that you find a book solely on beverages that is so imaginative and artfully put together.

The gorgeous photography in this book makes each recipe look tantalizingly good. I really enjoyed the mix of beginner boba tea recipes, the creative and diverse suggestions for add-ins, and the commentary on each recipe!

If you’re a boba lover, this gorgeous book would make a lovely addition to your kitchen and could be a conversation / decor piece as well!

I’ve been a fan of Boba for years after trying it in Taiwan for the first time. It’s even made its way into the US and isn’t has hard to find as it once was. Though it is still fairly new to Oklahoma and I had to learn to make my own to get my fix before several local places opened to cater to the masses.

This book has helped me to up my game and give me ideas to branch out with some additional ingredients and flavors. If you love Boba, you’re going to LOVE this book! Indulge in one of my favorite afternoon pick me ups and expand your Boba palate.

For me the primary and most basic judge of a cookbook (or in this case drinkbook I guess) is the longevity of its content. For this reason, while it's nice to read about the history of things, really I am looking for a solid resource of good recipes to refer to over and over again if needed. This fits the bill! If you love boba and boba drinks that is. I like how beautifully it's all laid out and simple to follow. I know some people might balk at the vagueness of a couple of the recipes, as they ask you use ratios instead of firm amounts but that helps reduce waste in my experience. Overall great and I will probably buy a copy to keep at home soon. Thanks for the opportunity to review!

This is a great little book for anyone that enjoys bubble tea - a growing presence on the British high street. It traces the history of boba and presents it in an accessible way.

The recipes are divine; my daugher and I enjoyed sourcing the ingredients and giving them a try. Our personal favourite was Watermelon and Strwberry Black Tea, but there are many other recipes that we still need to try out.

The instructions are clear and helpful with logical steps and mouth-watering images to match your final creation to!

Go buy this book and enjoy!

I mean as a huge fan of boba teas this is a great book to have on hand or to gift to fellow boba lovers! With stunning photos & recipes to try at home you'll be rushing to the store for ingredients to test out boba at home. What I loved most about this book is that its filled with a great amount of information on how boba is made, tips on how to make it properly & a look at all the different kinds of boba there are. A truly beautiful book that does a beautiful drink justice.

From refreshing fruity tea drinks to decadent ice cream milk tea concoctions, Boba has a tasty-looking variety of creatively-named boba shop drinks! With so many recipes elsewhere focusing on only using dried boba balls, I love that she includes a recipe to make your own boba from scratch, and I'm interested in trying the recipe for making Thai tea from scratch as well. I'd hoped for a wider variety of drink recipes, but everything looks delightful.
