The adventure begins on Christmas Eve 1964, Lizzy’s tenth birthday, as her family travels through the heart of Kansas to her Granny’s mansion as a winter storm approaches In her attic, Lizzy discovers Granny’s old quilt, and Granny explains to her the different meanings of each block—from the Scottie dog, flying geese, storm at sea, and many others. That night, as Lizzy sleeps with the quilt, it sparks her imagination and brings some of the blocks to life. Soon, Lizzy, the lone goose from the drive named Gretta, and Granny’s Scottie dog McDoogle travel to the kingdom of Ailear, where Lizzy learns that she is rightful ruler as princess, and they are in desperate need of her help to break its evil curse and restore the kingdom.

With beautiful illustrations created by Tims and intentional correlations to The Wizard of Oz and other classic tales, Lizzy Albright & the Attic Window will transport readers from Kansas to the magical places in the Kingdom of Ailear that exist beyond the Tunnel of Stars. Lizzy is empowered to take a leap of faith, and by doing so, gains self-confidence and courage. She discovers that deception and betrayal come with severe consequences and she eventually learns that things that she thought were impossible—are very possible.

Lizzy maintains a strong family bond, especially with Granny, who accepts and loves her unconditionally, and helps her to see past her limited views and to understand that not everything is as it seems. Fans of Lizzy can also create their own quilt similar to the one Granny gives to Lizzy—which is a critical component in unveiling the magical Ailear—with Granny’s 1930 Sampler, designed by Tims himself.

RICKY TIMS has enjoyed a long and diverse career that coalesced from a variety of creative art forms. He is well-known in the international quilt industry as a TV host, best-selling author, teacher, award-winning quiltmaker, fabric designer, inspirational speaker, and live performance entertainer. He was selected as one of the Thirty Most Distinguished Quilters in the World. With the publication of this book, he adds novelist to his long list of creative endeavors. Ricky was born and raised in North Texas, but now resides on a remote mountain not far from the small town of La Veta in Southern Colorado.

KAT BOWSER is a dynamic vocalist and consummate entertainer. Her performances—ranging from her remarkable tributes to Janis Joplin to her intimate piano bar weekends on Fort Lauderdale Beach—have thrilled local music lovers and tourists from around the world. Bowser is a native of Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, now residing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
