Description
Sadie Wollman, a young Jewess in 1924 Warsaw, Poland, has fallen in love with the handsome university professor—Alexander Kaminski. But when her traditional parents learn about this possible unholy matrimony to a gentile, they hastily arrange a brokered marriage to a wealthy Argentine Jewish business man—Ezra Porkevitch.
Believing they sent their daughter off to a glamorous life of wealth and luxury, this young woman instead faces a new reality of becoming a Polaca, a sex slave to the Zwi Migdal, a Jewish organized-crime group trafficking young women into forced prostitution throughout brothels in Buenos Aires.
When her lover Alex, a war hero of Poland, learns of the deception, he, along with his life-long friend Jan Mazur, seek to rescue Sadie from the grips of this wicked group of men protected by the Argentine political and law enforcement establishment.
Sadie’s Sin is an epic-romantic tale of an innocent woman's torment as she is sold to the city's most prestigious brothel—The Tango, and the hero's journey across three continents, seeking her rescue.

I wasn’t sure if I was reading a love story, a thriller or even a tragedy and ended up deciding it was all three. This is a heart rending tale or lovers torn apart and of the exploitation of a young woman. This book will enrage readers as they see the pointless suffering which arises from refusing to depart from tradition and pride. The lead characters are beautifully drawn and their relationship almost credible.

I enjoyed reading this book, it had great characters and a great storyline. I enjoyed the time period used and felt it worked perfectly.
I've read several books by Neil Perry Gordon, all of them genuine 5 star reads. Mr Gordon chooses unique story lines from a period in history not well known in more popular stories. 1920's Poland and Argentina had large, prosperous Jewish communities, this is one of the facts that made them a target in WW1. Racism based on religion was rampant. When a young Jewish woman chooses a man outside the Jewish faith, her parents step in and make what they feel is an advantageous match for her.
I had not heard of the Zwi Migdal prior to this. The argentine organization ran a large sex trafficking and prositution ring throughout the late 1800's and early 1900. They targeted Jewish women from Poland and were responsible for the disappearance of many. Gordon's story follows the path of one young woman as her parents "save" her from the arms of a gentile only to place her in a brothel where she would not be rescued for many, many years. The back story, while a great story in itself, serves as an education in this shameful period of history. I've already discovered a book or two to read up on the Zwi Migdal.
If you are looking for a different kind of historical novel, something unique that you've not seen ten times in the last year alone, read this one. You will be glad that you did.
