Description
Marygene Brown always figured she'd marry her childhood sweetheart, Alex Myers, not cater his wedding. But the Peach Diner could use the exposure. Most of the island is showing up--although more for the role-playing murder game at the reception than for the widely loathed bridezilla, Lucy Carmichael. Marygene may have to smile through the festivities, but Mama doesn't have to hold her peace--especially since only Marygene can hear her mother's ghost. Mama says she sees an aura of darkness around the wedding.
So when Marygene finds Lucy lying beside the wedding cake, buried in batter, with no pulse, it looks like Mama called it. This is no game. And when the bride's body simply vanishes, it's up to Marygene and her best friend Betsy (cousin to the groom and no fan of the bride) to solve a real-life mystery--with a little help from Mama's sassy spirit...

Ok, this book was great. The end? Didn't completely see that coming. Which is excellent!!
The characters- i loved that there werent so many that the plot focused on.
I don't usually get into thinkers or mysteries, but this kept me on my toes and I flew through it in a couple of days.
I'm glad that there are other books by the author because I will definitely be checking them out.
Marygene and Alex are finally at the wedding festivities, only she always thought it would be her and Alex, not Alex and someone else getting married. Being a good friend, she wished Alex all the best and even agreed to cater the wedding, no matter how hard it was on her. When the bride is found dead next to the wedding cake and her body disappears, eyes and accusations turn to Marygene and her BFF Betsy.
On the way home from the cancelled reception, Marygene and Betsy have an accident and are saved from the van just before it explodes. Now that their lives has been threatened, the BFFs must find out what happened to the bride and who has it out for them. When it looks like a Peach Cove native might be involved, Marygene realizes she may not know the locals as well as she thought she did.
A solid mystery with plenty of red herrings and a lovable protagonist with some quirky characters, each visit to Peach Cove leaves you waiting for the next. This is one of my must read series!
