Very nice book with lots of great recipes. It explains what the DASH diet is and then there are recipes for breakfast, appetizers and snacks, meats, vegetarians, sides and desserts. A few recipes have photos and the book is very organized. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

The Everything Easy DASH Diet Cookbook is a compilation, reformat, and re-release of content from The Everything® DASH Diet Cookbook from 2012 with additional new and updated material. Released 12th Jan 2021 by Simon & Schuster on their Adams Media imprint, it's 272 pages (print edition) and is available in paperback and ebook formats.

I like the layout and formatting of the "Everything" cookbooks. They're easy to understand, generally easy to follow, and full of tasty, relevant, and do-able recipes. This one follows the same format and will be familiar to readers who have used the other books in the series. The introduction gives the basics about the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet, what benefits it can provide (and why), other health advantages, and some nutrition and lifestyle info.
The recipes are arranged roughly thematically: breakfasts, appetizers & snacks, dips condiments marinades & sauces, salads & dressings, soups stews & chilis, beef & pork, fish & seafood, chicken & turkey, vegan & vegetarian, side dishes & quick breads, and drinks & desserts. Each recipe has its ingredients listed bullet style in a sidebar. Measurements are given in US standard only. (There's a metric conversion chart in the back of the book). Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and cooking directions. The ingredients are mostly easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery store. Nutritional information is provided for each of the recipes and includes calories, fat, sodium, carbohydrates, fiber, sugar, and protein.

Essential info, alerts, facts, and questions & answers are highlighted in different colored text boxes. These will be familiar to readers of other books in the Everything series from this publisher. Few of the recipes include photographs (roughly 10% in my quick estimation). The photos and serving suggestions which are included are full color, appetizing, and appropriate, but the general lack of photos might be a drawback for some readers.

Four stars (mostly for the lack of photos - so if you don't need them at all, it would be higher). This is a general cookbook with a huge variety of appealing, diet friendly dishes. It would make a superlative gift or purchase for readers trying out a more metabolism friendly/healthier lifestyle. Many of the recipes do rely on pre-processed ingredients - so some planning and adjustment will be needed for cooks who strongly prefer to cook from scratch. All of the recipes I tried on my family were tasty and well received, though I did notice the lack of finish/serving photos.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

The Everything Easy DASH Diet Cookbook by Christy Ellingsworth & Murdoc Khaleghi M.D.
200 Quick and Easy Recipes for Weight Loss and Better Health

What is the DASH Diet? The Acronym of DASH when spelled out explains it well:
Dietary
Approaches to
Stop
Hypertension

This book has easily spotted boxes in four colors for the reader on the hunt for information:
Green: Questions
Blue: Facts
Red: Alerts and Warnings
Yellow: Quick Tips

In addition to the shout-outs there are additional tidbits about ingredients, credit for recipes from others, and easily found nutritional information. Ingredients are listed with easy-to-follow directions. I can see this book coming in handy for anyone who enjoys basic meals and also for those that would like to try a few new ethnic options, too.

The layout of the book:
* Foreword
* Introduction (what DASH is and some pertinent information, research, etc)
Recipes for:
* Breakfast
* appetizers & Snacks
* dips, condiments, marinades & sauces
* salads and dressings
* soups, stews and chilis
* beef & pork
* fish and seafood
* chicken & turkey
* vegan and vegetarian dishes
* side dishes & quick breads
* desserts & drinks
* conversion charts: imperial vs metric
* comprehensive index

What I liked:
* The sodium content in the recipes were all low
* Most of the ingredients would be fairly easy to find or find substitutes for where I live
* There was at least one recipe I would like to try – a beet slaw

What I would have liked to see:
* More photographs
* More vegetarian/vegan recipes
* Menu suggestions for a day or week

Thank you to NetGalley and Adams Media for the ARC – This is my honest review.

This cookbook does a great job at including kid-friendly, adults-(probably)-only, and DIY to everyone’s own tastes. Many of the recipes also have notes at the end for substitutions and other tips. It’s a great cookbook to give as a gift to new families or more established families who may need some new staples.

This cookbook offers 200 recipes, including main dishes, salads, side dishes, desserts, and even drinks, that conform to the DASH (i.e., Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Diet. The sodium-reducing diet is proven to reduce hypertension, lowering the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease, while also potentially resulting in weight loss.

As promised by the authors, these recipes are fairly simple to make, using ingredients available in most supermarkets. I'm not sure I could prepare them all in 30 minutes or less, but there are probably mainly more skilled cooks who could. The recipes are arranged in logical chapters, with nutritional information, and an index facilitates finding a specific recipe.

This cookbook is a worthwhile addition to any kitchen whether you're dealing with hypertension or merely trying to improve your diet--a very timely consideration ten months into the pandemic. #TheEverythingEasyDASHDietCookbook #NetGalley

I received an e-book of The Everything Easy DASH Diet Cookbook from NetGalley to facilitate my review.

DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. The emphasis is on incorporating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein, and less saturated fats, salt and sweets.

The book contains a chapter of more detailed information on how and why the diet works. I skimmed that and then went on to the recipes.

I like the set-up of the cookbook, and love the photos of the finished recipes. All the recipes have ingredients that could be easily found in a grocery store. I plan on making at least 6 recipes from this book - to me that's the sign of a good cookbook. Highly recommended

This cookbook offers 200 recipes ranging from entrees, sides, salads, and even drinks. All that can be used while doing a DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet, which is a reduced sodium diet that has been proven to lower the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease, can aid in weight loss, and of course reduce hypertension. All of the recipes are quick and easy. I made a few myself and while some did take me a little longer than the 30 minutes it advertises I do think if it was something I cooked with regularly I could do it quickly. The recipes we tried were good and we didn’t feel as if we missed the salt we’re so used to. I think this cookbook would be a good addition in any kitchen even if you’re not following the DASH diet. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

The Everything Easy DASH Diet Cookbook: 200 Quick and Easy Recipes for Weight Loss and Better Health by Christy Ellingsworth & Murdoc Khaleghi
Publisher: Adams Media
Genre: Cooking, Food & Wine | Health, Mind & Body
Release Date: January 12, 2021

The Everything Easy DASH Diet Cookbook by Christy Ellingsworth & Murdoc Khaleghi contains 200 recipes designed to help stop hypertension.

Since my father has struggled with hypertension for years, my family is always looking for new recipes to try (that he will like) that will support his lifestyle and help us not develop hypertension ourselves. My father & my husband have rather picky pallets, so finding healthier recipes can be a little challenging because they are wary of the ingredients. Happily, there a many recipes in this book that I think will past the test with both of them! Thankfully, the recipes seem easy to follow!

This book opens with an explanation about the DASH diet, which aims to lower blood pressure through dietary changes then goes into the recipes. I love the pictures (the food looks so good) and that the nutrition information is included with each recipe.

In the breakfast chapter, I am sure my dad would love to eat the Diner-Style Home Fries and the Sunday Morning Waffles. The appetizers and snacks chapter offers a lot of options that I think my picky eaters would enjoy, like Spice-Rubbed Chicken Wings, Cheesy Seasoned Popcorn, and the Homemade Soft Pretzels.

There is a whole chapter dedicated to Dips, Condiments, Marinades, and Sauces, featuring low sodium and Salt-Free options. I'm looking forward to trying the Sour Cream and Onion Dip, Roasted Tomato Salsa, , Spicy, Sweet, and Tangy Barbecue Sauce, and Salt-Free Ketchup. These will be easy swaps to make at home!

The chapter for Salads and Dressings has some great options that I think I can sneak into the house too! Strawberry Vinaigrette, Italian Vinaigrette, and Vegan Cesar Salad Dressing will be finding a new home in my fridge.

Soups, Stews, and Chilis have some definite options for my picky eaters too! Easy Wonton Soup, Cheesy Potato Chowder, Classic Chicken Noodle Soup, and Summer Vegetable Stew seem like great choices to add to our menu!

The chapter with Beef and Pork recipes includes Easy Spaghetti and Meatballs, Beef Tacos, Dirty Rice, and Beef with Pea Pods that I'm sure will pass the picky eater test!

From the Fish and Seafood chapter I can see my father being more adventurous than my husband, but I think the Tuna Noodle Casserole, Healthy Fish and Chips, and he Open-Faced Tuna Melts passing their test. Mom and I will have to try the Shrimp Creole without them!

The Chicken and Turkey chapter brings us Grilled Tequila Chicken with Sautéed Peppers and Onions, Chicken, Black Bean and Veggie Soft Tacos, Oven-Baked Chicken Tenders, Low-Sodium Kung Pao Chicken, Ground Turkey Meatloaf Minis (shh, don't tell my husband it's not ground beef!) and Ground Turkey Sloppy Joes.

There are also Vegan and Vegetarian Dishes. I think the picky eaters in my life would protest because they insist on getting their protein from meat, but I think the Veggie Baked Ziti sounds incredible!

There is a recipe for Perfect Corn Bread in the Side Dished and Quick Breads! There are other recipes too, but that one has caught my attention!

In the Desserts and Drinks chapter, there are recipes for Carrot Cake Cookies, Peach Cobbler, Guilt-Free Chocolate Cupcakes, Strawberry Shortcake, Smoothies, and cocktails.

There are so many other recipes that sound absolutely incredible, but I chose to just highlight the ones I thought would actually make it on to my or my parents' table. There is definitely something for everyone here! I've already ordered a hard copy of cookbook for me and my mother!

I'm so grateful to Christy Ellingsworth & Murdoc Khaleghi, Adams Media, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.

I iniitally had to wrap my head around what DASH was, but I quickly saw how all the recipes came together around that concept. Although I myself am not directly affected by hypertension I do think it is always useful to look around for healthy recipes. You never know what might be on your path, but if there are delicious recipes like these that can help you live healthier then a lot of it will be good and yummy!

"DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. Although the diet was created with a focus on hypertension, during the last decade it has been found to affect much more. The DASH diet has been shown
to lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol, decrease the risk of many types of cancer, and even decrease the chance of kidney stones!" Is the introduction that got me hooked.

Even though less sodium, the recipes looks so yummy that makes me continue my read through the recipes. The correct use of spices can lessen the use of salt, and that makes this book more interesting. Some use salt substitute, and some use seasoning with less guilt. One interesting book to have, even though you don't have hypertension.
