A sweet and adorable story about a day at the beach. The art is absolutely gorgeous and with the way the story is told, you can almost hear the sounds at the sea shore. This is a great read for kids!

*Thanks Netgalley and Charlesbridge for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Charlesbridge for my copy of Seaside Stroll by Charles Trevino. It publishes January 19, 2021.
I had the help of two 8-year-olds and a 6-year-old for the reading and reviewing of this book.
We thought this book was very fun with its S alliteration. The illustrations were beautiful, and added much to the storytelling. I had fun reading this out loud, and enjoyed the cadence.
This would make a great gift, and do well in anyone's picture book library!

What an adorable book! The illustrations are perfect and the story is really cute. Perfectly captures a day at the beach in winter. I could almost smell the salt air.

Just the perfect story picture book of the season!

The artstyle is damn amazing! You will just fall in love with the little girl and her mom.

And yes, you will actually feel the chill.of the snow and the water when she got wet while playing outside!

Yes, the artstyle is that good! Love the realistic day out story.

Thank you, author and the publisher, for the advance reading copy.

Not perhaps a superlative smash, or a sterling sell-out success, but a success all said and done. You'll see why I chose those particular words when you realise this is a story told in slightly disjointed, poetic semi-sentences, and with every single word beginning with an 's', of a girl and her mother at the seaside for a gusty wintry walk. They explore, finding the expected and unexpected, and one of the party gets an early bath. Visuals you just have to rate (the second book in a row I've admired this artist's work) strengthen the impact, and this comes across as a well-thought-through piece.

I absolutely loved this book. A simple and cute plot to follow with all “S” words. The illustration style was so expressive with the seaside setting. The grammar lesson at the end was a nice addition.

Seaside Stroll is a really lovely picture book, but the artwork is the star for me. Despite the author's note at the end explaining every detail of the word choices (which feels somehow trying too hard to explain itself), the text didn't totally work for me - it's meant to be alliterative, sensory and evocative, but the interchangeable use of a soft S and SH underminded the alliterative effect, and some of the words didn't totally make sense to me, like the inclusion of "shoulder" in one line. With such sparse, poetic text, it should really speak for itself, and not require this kind of explanatory note.

That being said, it would still be fun to read aloud with a very young child, and the illustrations are definitely worth it - expressive figures, beautiful sea-washed color palette, and richly textured images of the shore, sea, and sky are sure to make this a family favorite for many.

Thank you to NetGalley and Charlesbridge for the advance review copy!

Ohmygoodness! I'm in love with this adorable picture book! The illustrations are simply THE CUTEST! The winter beach scenery is just amazing to soak in. And the text is completely alliterative; every single word starts with the letter S. It makes my heart wax poetic. The story infuses words from all 5 of our senses, and it's a great book choice when teaching your child about the wonders of human senses. There's so much to explore in the world this way!

Well done, well done!!!!

I enjoyed this book, and I definitely think it could be useful for language learning, building vocabulary, or just learning about words that represent sounds or movement! The art style is beautiful, and I think the number of words per page was good. I did sometimes feel like some of the words were a bit random tho, or that they seemed redundant. Overall really good tho!

Seaside Stroll is a lovely book about a little girls day at the seaside. It is told using S alliteration which made it quite the tongue twister in parts but that just added to mine and my 4 year old son's enjoyment of the story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Charlesbridge for my ARC.

Seaside Stroll is a cute and simple picture book that depicts going to the beach during the winter season. It has the perfect amount of words to explain whats happening but the pictures really say at all! Would make a wonderful fast bedtime read. This could also be used to set by Baby for them to be entertained by the vibrant illustrations. I reccomend this book to young children.

I was provided a free copy of this book by @netgalley and @charlesbridgepublishing in exchange for my honest review.
I was enticed by this cute sounding story as my parents live on an island and we have many seaside strolls when we visit! My six year old daughter read this cute story to me tonight before bed! Her favorite parts were the illustrations and the animals (we even went back through after we were finished reading to make sure we saw all the animals on each page)! She said that she thought the story needed real sentences, but it brought about a discussion on artistic license! 😁 We related to the story about a nice stroll ending in a sopping wet girl and a hot bath (it happened a few weeks ago after Thanksgiving)! Definitely would recommend!! 🐚

Good book to increase vocabulary in young children! Love all the alliterations. Story really demands that someone take a child(ren) on a field trip to a beach during the winter, or even a walk along a creek, river or woods off season. Never know what they'll find, see, smell! It'a truly a full sensory experience. Take a bag or camera along to collect what they find or take a photo. Compare/contrast that same area in the summer. The illustrations are lovely! Wonderful, creative book. Kudos Charles Trevino! Write some more like this! Pure poetical magic. Lovely story. make a good stocking stuffer, then a nice walk!

Simply superb! Splendid! Students seek such surprising stories!

I love this book and cannot wait to bring it into the class to use in writing lessons.

Going for a stroll at the beach!! This book uses S words throughout it to show adjectives and nouns. The best part of the book was the illustration. You feel like you are walking on the sand, playing, and that the seagulls are real! I would recommend this book for a kindergarten classroom while learning the letter S, or another classroom when talking about what happens when you go to the beach!!

Seaside Stroll was a precious book that read like a poem using a single letter to begin every word. I was very impressed with the author's ability to convert so much with only words starting with the letter S. The story was a visit to the beach on the of season and all that could be discovered. The illustrations were a perfect complement to the story and made it complete.
The author's more at the end provided excellent teaching opportunities for using the book.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Seaside Stroll is a beautifully illustrated children's book using words starting with the letter 'S' throughout.
The book isn't written in sentences but in single words e.g splash, splat, seagulls, sand etc.
The artwork in the book amazingly captures the essence of a winter day at the beach and has made me want to wrap up my little one and go for a stroll on our beach now its winter too. This book reminds me so much of my youngest child and is very nostalgic.
The vocabulary in this book is fantastic to help increase word knowledge and use of vocabulary in young children.

This a cute little ‘S’ word book! The illustrations were adorable and really helped the story a long. However, it felt less like a story and more like a collection of ‘s’ words. Something about the words I just found odd, but because of the illustrations, I still rated it 4/5.

Free ARC from Netgalley.

This book explores the magic of the seaside and coming home to a warm home after a long day out.

This was amazing! Every single word in this book starts with S, and in the back the different types of words is described for educational purposes. So simple, yet so stunning!

And the illustrations are beautiful as well!

It' s a snowy day and Milo wants a story, but mom is busy working. Instead, she suggests he go out and play in the snow. Grudgingly, Milo bundles up and leave the house. And the first thing he notices in the snow are little footprints around the bird feeder. A mouse was here, he thinks to himself. Milo decides to follow the tracks which lead to a winterberry bush with all it's berries gone and only a feather left behind. What happened, he wonders. Continuing to follow the mouse tracks into the woods, Milo discovers all kinds the other things to wonder about - branches from the hemlock tree that have fallen to the ground, dirt scattered in the snow, smooth ruts in the snow leading down to the creek, something that brushed the snow causing the mouse tracks to stop. As he continues following where the mouse tracks pick up again, Milo hears his mom calling him home for dinner. Darn, time to go home already. When mom offers to read him a story after dinner, Milo shakes his head no, as he pulls lays out all the souvenirs of his day in the snow: "This time," he said. "I have stories for you." This is such a lovely story about a young boy's explorations and observations of the natural world around him by simply following mouse tracks. Each page presents its own mystery about what happened at each of Milo's stops. Turn the page and discover the answer to the mystery before going on to the next one. Woodruff's mixed media illustrations done in a wintery palette offer a detailed colorful picture surrounding Milo's finds against simple mostly white background. Woodruff ends Milo's tale with labeled spot illustrations of all the creatures who are part of the story he will tell his mother. I've read this story over and over to my young readers and they never tire of it, though at this point they can readily name the creature associated with each of Milo's stops.

I really like this illustrated book!! It is so cozy, lovely and sonoric.

It is so amazing the way that author and illustrator fusionate their jobs.

A liric book with the letter “S” as the main theme, that represents a wonderfl winter walk by a mother and daughter on the beach.

I want to express my gratitude to Netgalley and Charlesbridge to give me the chance to read and review this book.

A simple but creative book. I love that all the words begin with ‘s’. As suggested at the back of the book it became a poem of words describing a girl’s journey to the beach at winter. The illustrations are so details and there is a vast amount of conversation that can be had with children. This is a perfect book in Reception for phonics when learning the letter ‘s’, extending their vocabulary and they can act it out too, linking and securing those words. It reminds me of Michael Rosen’s I’m going on a bear hunt, it has that pattern within it. Also it would be a good book to introduce poetry in KS1 or Lower KS2.
Overall a book that can be enjoyed by all, highly recommend this book for both school and home.

Thank you Netgalley and Charlesbridge for access to this arc.

The illustrations are the star of this book. I could feel the wintery breeze off the ocean, see the slightly tepid sunshine, feel the warmth of a sudsy shower, snuggle into a soft bed. At the end, there is an “author’s note” explanation of the words used in the story. I think older children might understand a little how he wrote but it’s over the head of pre-schoolers. Still the book is a great way to increase vocabulary using items illustrated on each page and I’d bet it’s great to hear read aloud. B

Seaside Stroll, written by Charles Trevino and illustrated by Maribel Lechuga, is a picturebook. Explore the beach in winter in this story told through clever language. During a sunset beach saunter, a girl stumbles and drops her doll into a tidal pool. Soaked! Celebrating the natural silence of an off-season location, the surf and sand are brought to life through this story. Backmatter includes an author’s note about the word choices in the book and parts of speech used, as well as a note about exploring a beach in winter: what animals you might see, sculpting with snow and sand side by side, the colors of a winter sky and sea, and more.

Seaside Stroll is a deceptively simple story about exploring the beach in the winter, that also explores language, poetry, and meter. It is an enjoyable read, and could easily be used to start a discussion about language, science, nature, and simply taking the time to notice the world and textures around you. As multilayered as the text is, the artwork in similarly more complex than you get at first glance. The color, detail, and composition compliment the text and tenor of the story perfectly. The innocence of the young girl- exploring and getting more than a little cold and damp under her mother's watchful eye- matched with the life and landscape of the beach was well done. I think this book can both be a simple read to enjoy together and a teaching tool. The very best books can do both, intentional or not, and I think the intent and execution is very well done here.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I loved this book about a little girl all bundled up and visiting the beach with her mom on a cold winters day.

First off, this book shows a beach in winter. Yes beaches can be cold. They are not all hot sand and swimsuits. Besides that this book is uni que because the story is told in single words that hitch rides with each other. It’s a step above a wordless picture book. The words interpret the picture instead of the other way around. And I also love that all the words start with the letter S. Check it out. It’s a unique read that would be very fun for reading aloud.
