Description
** A BRAND NEW SERIES FROM ANNIE RAINS **
This summer, they’ll learn that home is where the heart is.
Somerset Lake is the perfect place for Trisha Langly and her son to start over. As the new manager for the Somerset Cottages, Trisha is instantly charmed by the property’s elderly residents and her firecracker of a new boss, Vi Fletcher. But Trisha is less enchanted by Vi’s protective grandson Jake. No matter how tempting she finds the handsome lawyer, Trisha knows that if Jake discovers the truth about her past, she’ll lose the new life she’s worked so hard to build.
Jake Fletcher left Somerset Lake after a tragic loss, but he’s returning for the summer to care for his beloved grandmother, hoping Vi will sell the run-down cottages and finally slow down. There’s just one problem: Trisha, Vi’s new employee. She’s smart, beautiful, and kind, but Jake’s job is to protect his grandmother’s interests, and his gut is telling him Trisha’s hiding something that could jeopardize Vi’s future. However, as they spend summer days renovating the property and bonding over their love for the town, Jake realizes that Trisha is a risk worth taking—if only she can trust him with her secrets . . . and her heart.
Includes the bonus novella Only Home with You by Jeannie Chin!

This was a nice sweet story and I think it’s the first one I’ve read by this author. It’s a light refreshing story, perfect for the beach.
It takes place in a quaint sounding beach cottage community. Trisha and her son are starting over here. Jake returns to his hometown and runs into Trisha early one morning. Each has a few secrets to share.
I enjoyed the story and look forward to more in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy
I am a huge fan of Annie Rains Sweetwater Springs series, so I was very excited that this new series begins with a character from Sweetwater that moved to Somerset Lake! Trisha and Petey are great characters that I already loved from Sweetwater, although you don’t need to be familiar with them to read or enjoy this book, and I loved learning more about them and watching them overcome their struggles. Jake is a great character and he is the perfect person to pair up with Trisha. I love the setting of Somerset Lake and all of the side characters that were introduced in this book. I cannot wait to visit this town and these characters again! This is my honest review of an ARC I received from netgalley.
As much as I was saddened by the end of the Sweetwater Springs series, I’m just as excited to start my journey into the new Somerset Lake series. It’s extra special when there’s the added connection of characters that connect each series.
Trisha and Petey are so very sweet and easy to cheer for, especially considering the hard times they both suffered back in their home town. Somerset Lake seems to be the perfect place to start over with a clean slate. Jake, the handsome neighbor and son of Trisha’s boss, Vi, certainly doesn’t hurt in both the scenery and good guy departments. Even as Jake discovers the secret Trisha has been keeping, he continues to put those nice guy skills to work by showing them both what their new small town home has to offer, and helping Trisha with repairs to the cottages that she is property manager of. Of course, sparks fly, those secrets are discovered by others and misunderstandings take place.
But it’s all guided by the pen of Annie Rains, so it’ll all work out, with a heartfelt and sweetly written HEA. Her easy and straightforward descriptions help the reader picture a row of pastel colored cottages along the lakes edge, the loyal face of Jake’s dog Bailey, and the mischief in a seven-year-old’s eyes. Makes you want to take a Sunday morning drive to find that little town.
I just know that Somerset Lake will continue to feel more like home with every story written!
Loved it. A sweet tear inducer. Running from one's past never works. A delightful small town romance. I am eager to read the stories of the other single ladies involved in this tale. The cover is somewhat misleading. Not the type of dog I expected and no mention of a hammock. Nevertheless, there is a dog and sitting on the porch does occur.
Annie Rains is one of my favorite authors. Her compelling characters, their stories, and descriptive voice draw me into her stories. Ms. Rains crafts a fabulous story for Trisha Langly and Jake Fletcher. Loved the plot premise- Trisha has been hired by Jake’s grandmother to oversee her rental cottages while Jake’s parents have asked him to convince his grandmother to sell the properties.
Grandmother Vi has asked them to work together to bring the cottages back to life. The chemistry simmered between Jake and Trisha as they worked side by side renovating the cottages, spent time with Trisha’s son Petey and attended community events. The couple’s slow burn romance was perfectly paced- loved reading how their friendship became so much more.
Love Annie Rains’ descriptive voice. I could picture Jake and Trisha sitting on the dock watching the sunset over Somerset Lake. I could hear Petey asking Jake a zillion questions about fishing, camping and flying. Loved the chapter where Trisha attended Tess’s book club. Trisha expected to be part of a book discussion—she left being part of a circle of supportive friends.
The Summer Cottage pulled at my heartstrings because Trisha made a difficult choice to move from Sweetwater Springs to Somerset Lake. She realized that she and Petey needed a fresh start. I loved the themes of honesty, forgiveness and hope in the novel. Family, home and community were important to Trisha and Jake—this made the book a 5 star read for me!
I adored the author’s Sweetwater Springs series. I am glad I joined Trisha and Petey at Somerset Lake! Loved the characters of Vi, Mr. S, Della Rose and Lucy and can’t wait to read more about them!
I highly recommend The Summer Cottage-- It’s a beautifully written small town romance filled with love, family drama and fantastic characters. Kick off your flip flops, grab a glass of wine and settle in for a heartfelt, sweet romance at Somerset Lake!
A great start to a new series. Trisha and Petey are starting over in Somerset Lake. Jake is coming home again. The story is sweet and a perfect small town romance. The town is charming and the people in the town are welcoming. It's a great introduction to a town for a new series. I look forward to more from the characters we met in this story. Trisha is an inspiring character with facing a horrible situation and finding a new way. Jake is exactly the hero she needed. I love his habit of reading how to books! I received a copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
