Description

Thomas Jackson and Quentin Randolph are being hunted.

The Absolutist Government that has taken control of the United States has branded them and the rest of the House of Burgesses domestic terrorists and put a price on their heads.

As an ugly Civil War rages across the United States, Jackson, Randolph, and the Burgesses try to protect their families from the bloody violence.

In the desperate struggle to escape, they plunge into the mighty expanse of the Jedediah Smith Wilderness, seeking refuge. Transported to a younger America, Thomas Jackson and his wife, Karrie, make their stand in the western mountains.

Hoping to save the Jacksons, the Burgesses send Nathan, a Texan cowboy with a cause, into the wilderness to extract them. Together, they fight to defeat the powerful forces that have mobilized to uncover and destroy the Burgesses once and for all.

Underneath the majesty of the Grand Tetons, hate, treachery, and thrilling action play out in a bloody battle for the right to live in liberty.

There’s a lot happening in this book so readers should pay attention - it’s worth the effort. At times somewhat sparing with the dialogue, the author nonetheless builds the relationships well and you get a good sense of how the characters are linked and what is important to them. This book takes us on a fascinating ride across different locations and within plot lines which are sometimes a bit too realistic to be comfortable. Highly recommended. For mystery readers who like to be challenged.

A follow on to Publius: Libertas Aut Mors, Balado's Publius: Sic Semper Tyrannis is the continuation of the story of a secret battle waged across the United States between the elitist, totalitarian, shadow government Absolutists and their liberty loving, individualist, so called Universal Adversary. Following the deaths of Richard Haler and Isham Randolph, a new generation steps forward to lead the North Virginia Army. Ogden's Absolutists are severely challenged and freedom and the future existence of the United States of America hang in the balance. PSST is a great story if you can overcome some of the way over the top, way over dramatic plot and character prose. Just ignore that, and you will have a good, fun read.

An alternate history about a new American Civil War, disturbing to read at times, "Publius Sic Semper Tyrannis" takes you through a different kind of adventure. A family heads into the wilderness of the Grand Tetons to protect themselves against a tyrannical government.

Another man is sent to protect them and help them fight back against the evil family in control, the Burgesses. Can they succeed when so many are against them?

The story of a secret battle waged across the United States between the elitist, totalitarian, shadow government Absolutists and their liberty loving, individualist, so called Universal Adversary. A truly dystopian view of where the US could go, even more scary given January 6,2021. Following the deaths of Richard Haler and Isham Randolph, a new generation steps forward to lead the North Virginia Army. Ogden's Absolutists are severely challenged and freedom and the future existence of the United States of America hang in the balance. The writing style is very over the top, and there are a lot of players to remember, but the strong libertarian bent comes through loud and clear.

I received a copy of this book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

I really enjoyed this book with its strong characters, fabulous world building and wild adventures. The characters and their actions are believable and seem to be written from today’s divided loyalties. I fell in love with heroism of the movement to protect our Founding Father’s hope for a better world.

The book, however, was a bit overlong. It is forgivable when one considers the thought-provoking premise of the book. Where does one’s loyalties lie? How does one know the truth?

Presented in a heart pounding manner this book had me up way into the wee hours of the morning. Even though I had to get up early for work. It played in my head during the day and couldn’t wait to get back to reading.

A family divided, a country divided, loyalty, betrayal, and murder fill the pages. If you love historic fiction, adventure and heroism, you will love this tale. Rich in everything you read a book for you will not soon forget this tale of love and hate, good and evil, brotherhood and division.

In an alternate reality, there is a new civil war. Brother against Brother, enemies to the death. Everyone is fighting for the "Right" side. Who will prevail?

I loved the use of the Civil War as a setting for a mystery novel, the characters were amazing and the story was super well done.
