Description
When a distraught mother pleads with San Francisco Chronicle reporter Cindy Thomas to investigate the disappearance of her daughter, Tara, and baby granddaughter, Cindy immediately loops in SFPD Sergeant Lindsay Boxer. The prime suspect is Tara's schoolteacher husband, Lucas Burke, but he tells a conflicting story that paints Tara as a wayward wife, not a missing person.
While the city's chief medical examiner, Claire Washburn, harbours theories that run counter to the police investigation of the Burke case, Assistant District Attorney Yuki Castellano sizes up Lucas as a textbook domestic offender - until he puts forward a theory of his own that unexpectedly connects the dots on a constellation of killings.
As the case grows into something far bigger than any of them could have imagined, the four friends will need each other to help unpick the truth from a web of lies.

Addictive Reading... With A Twist, Wanted To Read More 🤓
21st Birthday is part of the Women's Murder Club series, great reads, if you haven't read any in this series it won't affect your reading of this book but definitely worth reading others in it too.
It starts where Cindy ends up, then... It's told over two parts, five months earlier, a lady finds her way into see Cindy at her office, desperate for someone to help look for her daughter and granddaughter, who she claims has been murdered by her son-in-law. Cindy calls in the help of good friend Detective Lindsey Boxer. Who looks into, initially at the annoyance of her new boss, as not her department, then things take a turn for the worse.
From the ongoing investigation, Fast forward, two months and we're taken through the court trial and more...
Easy read, difficult to write too much without putting in any potential spoilers. The ladies in the women's Murder club work well together with their close friendships covering most areas. Just wanted to sit down and read this book in one sitting, but wanted more at the end. A follow on would be great to see how this story pans out with Cindys new project.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
patterson does it again..the womens murder club are all meeting again after the health scare of claire, she is back to work and her first job is awful
a young child is found dead but not drowned she was suffocated before she entered the water, the mom isnt anywhere to be found, she is missing and has been ever since the argument with her husband and his subsequent arrest for their murder
several other bodies are found and it put the husband in the frame for all of them...
brilliantly paced and well written it was great to get back with the womans murder club, cant fault this book or the friendships they maintain, which cant be easy considering their diverse jobs
I was happier with this installment more than the recent few of the “Women’s Murder Club” series.
A woman turns up to beg Cindy the journalist to help her find her daughter and granddaughter who have gone missing.
Soon enough all the women are involved and the story deepens.
All the women are great, strong figures, balancing their jobs with their lives and the twist in this novel was a blessing after recent novels.
Enjoyable, not back to the beginning of the series where things were thrilling but a really solid novel.
There are only two James Patterson series that I actually enjoy: the Alex Cross series and The Women's Murder Club and this, the latest in the WMC series, was no disappointment. In fact, this is up there with the best of them and kept me guessing quite literally to the last page.
This is an easy, relaxed read - one to take to bed, to unwind after a long day and allow yourself to be transported into Lindsay Boxer's world. Unlike many novels, the women in these novels are fully rounded, well written characters with careers and lives entirely independent of the men in their lives and they demonstrate the intensity of life-long female friendships.
A most satisfying novel and I look forward to number 22.
I love James Patterson especially the woman’s murder club series. As usual this was a fast paced addictive read & would recommend to anyone.
Tension Mounting, Tautly Plotted....
The latest collaboration in the Women’s Murder Club series. Sergeant Boxer is tasked with protecting a victim long enough to see in her 21st birthday. Tension mounting read, tautly plotted and populated with a credible cast of characters. A worthy addition to the series, each of which can be read as a standalone.
Hard to believe that The Women's Murder Club is 21! I have read and loved every single one and 21st Birthday is up there with my favourites. James Patterson is a go to author for me, I pick up his books without even reading the blurb these days. He very rarely lets me down. With short , sharp chapters, his books are binge worthy and addictive.'
As always, we have a case that all the ladies are involved in. Lindsay is dealing with a new boss and shake up of the department. Claire is returning to work after her treatment and Yuki and Cindy are working hard as usual.. On the hunt for a big story, Cindy is approached by a worried and distressed mother. Her daughter , Tara and baby grand daughter are missing and she believes that her son-in-law, Lucas Burke has hurt them. She won't take no for an answer so Cindy reaches out to Lindsay who works the case, again the new bosses wishes. But this case is more than any of them bargained for and it will take all of their skills to bust it open. It leads onto what I think will be an exciting book 22 for Cindy as well.
I love the women of the Murder Club. They are all strong and determined women in male dominated careers. They work together to find the clues, help each other and catch the bad guys. It is a clever concept and it works well - or we wouldn't be on book 21.
Thanks to Netgalley, Random House UK, Cornerstone, Century for my advanced copy of this book to read,
I don’t think I’ve ever read one of the Women’s murder club so quickly! This was different to the usual serial killer thriller I’ve come to expect and followed the story in more detail on the investigation and insight to the case as a whole. Not only that but it continually cast doubt and misdirection, the case was not the obvious win these ladies normally obtain but that made it even more intriguing, it was refreshing coming from Patterson to see the Hero or Heroines in this have everything tied up in a neat little bow
#21stBirthday #NetGalley I've just finished reading 21st Birthday by James Patterson which is the latest in the Womens Murder Club series and includes all the usual characters alongside the main 4, Lindsay, Yuki, Cindy and Claire and they each of them play their own part in this story, and more so than in the previous. I would class it as murder mystery and will be just as enjoyable for anyone that hasn't read the previous books in the series. Twists and turns that keep you guessing, short and easy to read chapters in the usual form of James Patterson.
A great easy read!
I find James Patterson’s style of writing effortless and leaves me wanting to read chapter after chapter.
This book is the latest in the Women’s Murder Club series , if you haven’t read any of the previous stories in the series it won’t detract from the enjoyment of this book.
The main characters are robust and genuine in their nature sharing an authentic bond..The book is fast paced with plenty of twists and turns and second guessing.
An enjoyable , intriguing read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone
Wow can’t believe the woman’s murder club is 21 !! I have read all in the series and they never disappoint.
A young woman and her baby are missing but her husband hasn’t reported her missing. Her mother is accusing her son-in-law of harming them but could he really have killed his wife and baby ?
Detective Lindsay Boxer starts to look into the case after the woman’s mother approaches Cindy, who is a reporter at The Chronicle and also a member of the woman’s murder club. What follows is a tough investigation that will take hard work from not only Lindsay and Cindy but also Claire and Yuki, the other members of the club.
Will they manage to solve the case ? And finally get to the truth of not only the disappearance of a young woman and her baby but also many murders of other young women ?
This is just what you expect from a Woman’s Murder Club book. Lots of twists and turns with the women showing that they work great individually but nothing can beat them when they join together.
Thank you to Random House UK, Cornerstone and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.
Brilliant read! SO good to be back with the murder club girls, and this felt more authentic than the last few. It felt familiar and comfortable in the typical Patterson style. I fell in love with the Murder Club girls way back when 'The First to Die' was published and have read all 20 in the series. I felt they had lost the books had lost their way a bit around 14/15, but this is right back up there. Lindsay is back to doing what she does best, bending the rules to seek out justice, and Cindy's character has grown and developed well.
The particulars around this story line - it is most definitely gripping! It is one of those books that has you questioning all the way through, and the twisty turning red herrings (despite often being very obvious!) do work well again here,
All in all, an excellent addition to the series!
How the time flies, I have now been reading about Lindsay, Cindy, Claire and Yuki for 20 years!! The bond between them all gets stronger with each book and the crimes always provide a thrilling read.
In this book, Detective Lindsay Boxer is called in to investigate the disappearance of a young mother and her baby daughter. The case was brought to SFPD by Lindsay' s reporter friend Cindy, who was approached by the girl's frantic mother who hadn't heard from them and swears they are missing and that the husband has something to do with it!
As the body of a young baby is washed up, things get really serious and it's a race against time to nail the killer and all points to the husband/father. But how horrific a thought, that a father would kill his baby daughter and wife;; what has driven him this?
Or, as he claims it's not him but someone else. More bodies are discovered and now Lindsay and her colleagues have to find the right killer before any more get killed.
Read how as always the four friends join forces to discover the truth; love the meetings over beer and food, you can just imagine yourself there with them.
If you have not read any of the Women's Murder Club books, then start now. You will not be disappointed!
What next for the team? 22 ?????
The latest instalment of the Womens Murder Club.
Thoroughly enjoyed the latest in this series, and "catching up" with them in this latest book.
Fast paced investigation for Lindsay Boxer with Cindy Thomas playing a large part in this book, investigating the missing 20 year old and her daughters disappearance.
Great read yet again Mr Patterson & Ms Paetro, thank you
21st Birthday is the 21st book in the Women’s Murder Club by James Patterson and is a 5 star read.
The one thing you are guaranteed with a James Patterson book is a thrilling story from the first page until the last and this book is no different. The women’s murder club are looking into the disappearance of a young mother and her baby and the fingers are pointing at her husband but as more bodies show up they realise that they have a serial killer on their hands and time is running out before the next bodies are found. I’m a huge James Patterson fan everything he writes is brilliant.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book through Netgalley.
