Okay, she's done it again. Hands down, best book of 2020 so far.
I always try to figure out the ending along the way but I am always wrong. Always. The Therapist was no different. I love that there are little tid bits throughout the book, littered like clues, but you don't fully grasp what is happening til around the same time as the mc.
The Therapist, and all others by Paris, are true works of art.

Alice and Leo have had a long distance relationship for over a year and are ready to move in together. Leo finds an incredible house in London in a gated community and the price is right. Everything is going well until Alice finds that Leo has deceived her about a death in the house.

This was quite the page turner, I hated that I had to leave it to do real life things. The book kept me guessing until the very end which is usually hard to do. You were never sure if the neighbors were who they said they were, they had a Stepford neighborhood feel. You didn't know who to trust. B. A. Paris never disappoints me.

Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martins for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I was over the moon excited when I got approved for The Therapist! I absolutely love B.A Paris and this did not disappoint!! This book was everything I wanted from her latest book! You feel invested and have to find out who murdered Nina along side Alice! There were several spots throughout I thought I had it figured out but nope and I didn't start suspecting the real killer until towards the end. I loved how Paris wrapped it up and unfolded the plot before my eyes!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 from me!!!

WOW is all I can say!! B.A. Paris has done it again!! The Therapist blew my mind and you won't believe who did it. Any one of the cast of characters could have been the culprit which kept me flipping the pages until the very end. I highly recommend The Therapist especially to those who love a good thriller. Would be great in your beach bag this summer.

A HUGE thank you to B.A. Paris, St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Nina a therapist, lived in the house that Alice and Leo have just moved into. It is situated in an exclusive gated neighborhood and Alice tries to make friends with the other ladies in the Circle, but there always seems to be something that they are holding back. Then Alice hears some very disturbing news through her realtor, something that Leo knew, but had kept from Alice. Alice is determined to find out the secrets that the Circle seems to hold and she begins to suspect that her new neighbors have a lot to hide.
I did enjoy this book, it keeps you guessing and that is what a real mystery is all about.
Thanks to the publisher, author and Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

BA Paris knocks it out of the park with another twisted psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end. Every time I thought I had it figured it, the rug was swept from under me! The Therapist is one of those books that you accidentally stay up all night reading because it's impossible to put down.

Another great suspense novel from this author that never disappoints. When a young couple move into a new house in a gated community it seems like they’ve found the home of their dreams. But when bizarre events keep happening, secrets come to light one by one. What is real? And who to believe? Trusting the wrong person can be deadly. Here is one of the reasons for the phrase “buyer beware”.

I received this book from St. Martins Press in exchange for an honest review. This is the B.A. Paris that I came to love after reading Behind Closed Doors! Put this on your TBR. This story will keep you up well into the night furiously turning the pages to find out who done it! This book sucked me in from the very beginning and kept me guessing, on the edge of my seat, until the end. You will suspect everyone and even begin to wonder how reliable the narrator is. So many of the characters will give you that creepy feeling and you don’t know who to trust. I absolutely loved every second of reading this. I can’t wait until her next book!!

I really enjoyed this page-turning read. Full of twists (some predictable some definitely not), I couldn't wait to see what Alice was going to discover living in the gated community in London. Everyone seems to be hiding something and not everyone is as nice as they seem.

Paris has such a unique voice - I didn’t realize I missed her books until i delved in. This book will definitely keep you enthralled until the very end!
She definitely delivers on mystery!

I must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It’s a thriller right from the start that kept me engaged throughout. Alice and her partner Leo move into a house in a gated community in London. Unbeknownst to Alice a murder took place in the upstairs bedroom. The wife was killed and the husband committed suicide so he obviously was the killer, or was he? Many secrets are kept as Alice becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened while being scared to live in the house. She begins to suspect everyone as are rationalizes their motive. I began to suspect the true culprit but not until later in the storyline but the author still managed to throw in some curveballs. Highly entertaining that I am sure will be a summer favorite! #TheTherapist #B.A.Paris #NetGalley

The discovery of a woman previously murdered in a house bought by a young couple provides the narrative engine in "The Therapist" by B. A. Paris. Leo and Alice settle into an exclusive gated community in London where Alice discovers that Nina, the wife of a happily married couple, was brutally murdered in their bedroom. The husband was accused of the murder and ultimately committed suicide.

Alice becomes enraged when she realizes that Leo knew about the murder, but failed to disclose this before they moved in. B.A. Paris does a wonderful job of portraying Alice as a lonely young woman besieged by dreams of Nina.. At night she feels the presence of someone else in the house. Alice's internal terror leads to a chasm in her relationship with Leo. He eventually moves out while Alice finds solace with some of her female neighbors.

As Alice tries to discover the mystery behind Nina's death, she starts to doubt the good intentions of her neighbors. Alice shows unrelenting persistence in trying to solve the mystery of a woman she didn't even know.. This psychological thriller holds up nicely, but Paris's true gift is her ability to provoke terror in the absence of any macabre content.

I am a big fan of B. A. Paris and this psychological thriller did not disappoint. It shimmers as the suspense builds and becomes almost impossible to put down. Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I LOVED Behind Closed Doors so much and this book is equally as good. I was sp caught up in the story that I hated to see it end. This book is going to be another bestseller for BA.

I really enjoyed this book, and must admit that it had me a bit twisted around throughout! While, I did have it figured out a bit earlier, I didn’t have everything figured out and that means that it’s done it’s job, imho! Well written, with amazing character development, fast paced, unputdownable chilling thrill ride! This is likely one of Paris top books, which is great a thing, considering her books are top notch! Lots of thrilling thrills, chilling chills, twisty turns, and gasp worthy shocks! Highly, highly, highly recommend!

I will read anything that B.A Paris writes, so I was so excited to be notified of a new arc available! I loved this! I kept trying to figure out what was going to happen the whole time, the author did a great job of getting you into the main character’s mindset so your thoughts were jumping around just as much as Alice’s were. I can see this being on a thriller beach read list for this summer!

As with every B.A. Paris novel I've read, I had the hardest time putting this one down.
Alice and Leo decide to take the next step forward in their relationship and move in together. Leo finds a very charming home in "The Circle", a small, 12 home gated community that Alice feels is well out of their price range. After giving her best shot to making the best, even though she feels off, she begins to make friends with the tight-knit neighborhood. Some are more than friendly and others, not so much. Once she realizes WHY they are some who aren't as friendly, she delves into her own search about the home and the previous tenant with whom she feels quite a connection. The more she searches, the more she starts to question everyone in the neighborhood in hopes she can discover the secret before it's too late.

I really hate to admit that I had it all wrong, though in the end it was all quite obvious.

The last 20% or so was all adrenaline pumping, edge of your seat thrilling.

At first I was frustrated with the rogue investigation, but I’m so glad I continued on and finished the book. I found it quite enjoyable

Wow, this was a great read. I stayed up until three in the morning to finish this one. The plot was extremely engaging and gripping. The main character, Alice, was complex and very sympathetic, and, through her eyes, I became suspicious of all of the other characters as she was. Even so, the twist ending shocked me. B.A. Paris has become one of my favorites, with each book better than the last. I can’t wait to read further thrillers from her.

This was another edge of your seat, read during the daylight, physiological thriller by this author.

I started it & couldn't put it down. Read in one day. Trying to build a relationship with a base of lies. Then doing the very same thing to the person you don't trust.

Full of twists & turns that keep you guessing until the end.

I received an advanced copy, but voluntarily left this review.

I will leave 5 star review on Amazon under name of Connie
Thank you for granting me access to this book!

Predictably, Paris has written another cracker of a novel. That's the truth, and nothing but the truth. The Therapist grabs you from the start and simply doesn't let go. Paris has such an engaging writing style that pleasantly pulls you into the thrilling stories she crafts. The pages seemingly turn themselves as you become engrossed in this terrific thriller. The protagonist is likable with a past we uncover over the course of the book. The twists and the turns of the book leave her struggling to differentiate truth from fiction. This book is at once a murder mystery and a psychological thriller. Paris is a master at combining the two to create another great read. Thank you to St. Martin's Press for the advanced reading copy! #TheTherapist #NetGalley

Alice is rural woman with a tragic past. She is excited to fall in love with a city Risk Manager and begin a new life in London, in a posh gated community. While she embraces her new exclusive neighborhood, the neighbors seem a bit standoffish. When a Private Investigator turns up at her door looking for answers on behalf of her client, Alice learned that her fancy new home holds an unspeakable history. She believes she can come to terms with her own tragic past as well as solve the mystery of what really happened at her home to the last inhabitant. To do this, she teams up with her new Private Investigator friend, and they take on the neighborhood where they aren't sure anything is what it seems. What happened in The Circle that night?

When I saw that B.A. Paris had a new book coming, I was instantly excited. Every lover of domestic thrillers knows the success that was Behind Closed Doors, and I equally loved (very different, but equally compelling) The Dilemma. The Therapist was highly readable, and I finished it quickly. I didn't feel an intense connection to the main character, who I felt was a bit TOO "damaged" for my liking. Honestly, I didn't connect with any of the characters. The ending definitely threw me through a loop though -- which is hard to do! So for that reason alone, I recommend the read. The two plot twists were shocking, sad, and unexpected, and at the very end I finally developed a relationship with one of the characters. I'd love to say more, but I can't risk spoiling anything for you, reader!

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my ARC!

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the e-ARC of The Therapist! This was a great, quick thriller that kept me guessing until the end. The main character, Alice, and her partner Leo move into "The Circle" which is a small, tight knit gated community. Right away you learn everything is not as idyllic as it seems and pretty soon you are wrapped up in the lies and secrets these neighbors are holding. Once I got into this book I couldn't put it down and B.A. Paris did a great job of stringing along clues to unraveling a secret that most of this neighborhood seems intent on putting to rest. Definitely recommend for summer reading!

One of the best books I have read this year!! Alice moves into a new house with a horrible secret. The house is in a gated community with friendly neighbors but you can’t trust a word they say. Separated from her childhood home and still dealing with the loss of her family, Alice doesn’t know who to trust or what to believe. All she wants is to move on with her life and make friends but that proves to be an impossible task. I found this book to be entertaining with nonstop twists and guessing. Highly enjoyable.

Full of the twists you expect from B.A. Paris. Think you’ve got it all figured out? Think again! It’s hard being the new neighbor in the close-knit gated community.

Thank you St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for the ARC of BA Paris' newest. The Therapist is a fast read that makes you want to read "just one more chapter". Like the protagonist, I could not figure out whodunnit and my mind went in circles throughout the book trying to figure it out. Did not see the twists at the end and as long as you're able to suspend some belief, is super enjoyable from beginning to end.
Much better than Paris' last book, The Dilemma. Not quite as thrilling as "Behind Closed Doors". Still definitely recommend.

At the beginning of the book, Alice starts talking about just moving to The Circle and how she has only meet 1 neighbor. She meets Maria, as this lady is putting her 3 boys and 2 dogs into a People Carrier. A WHAT? I so had to look that up, while Americans say Minivan, British people say People Carrier. OK! I only say something cause i think its weird but cute at the same time. This book grabbed me from the prologue, and of course i'm nosey for secrets. This book will be hard for anyone to put down. This is my first book by B.A. Paris and i see why everyone raves about her books. This book lives up to the hype. Grab your a copy when it comes out, you won't be disappointed.

Thank You for the ARC #NetGalley #TheTherapist #StMartinsPress.

Another fantastic psychological thriller from B.A. Paris, The Therapist will have you wondering the whole way through. Alice and Leo move in together into a house in a neighborhood known as The Circle. But there is a secret that the people living in The Circle hold. When Alice finds out what it is she panics. She feels someone is watching her. Is it someone who lives in The Circle? Who can she trust? And more importantly, who can't she trust?

As a big fan of B.A. Paris, I was so excited to receive a copy of this book to review. I simply could not put it down. All of the neighbours are suspicious which just adds to the juiciness of the book. I guessed the plot twist about 2/3 of the way through but had no idea how it would manifest itself. A superb thriller that will have you biting your nails until the end.

Thank you to Netgalley, B.A. Paris, and St. Martin's Press for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

OMG, The Therapist was an excellent read. I love BA Paris and have read all of her previous books, but this story was addictive. I’ve been in a reading slump and this pulled me right out! This psychological thriller is multi layered, which kept me interested! There’s a love story meets deception between main characters Alice and Leo. An unsolved murder that took place close to home. Breakdown of close friendships and new neighbors. Neighbors turning on one another and secrets being kept. Questions about who is truthful and who is covering up for who. A suspenseful story, with an unexpected ending!

I absolutely love BA Paris and having read all of her previous work, was thrilled to get an ARC of The Therapist! The Therapist had me suspicious of every single character and had twists and turns until the very last page. This book went at a good pace and kept me intrigued and turning the page - I found myself picking it up at every spare moment.

Fans of BA Paris and thrillers won't be disappointed!

Let me start by saying, I have been a HUGE fan of B A Paris since I read Behind Closed Doors. When I was given The Therapist ARC, is was THRILLED! With that being said, This book did not disappoint!

When Alice and Leo move into the gated community of The Circle, they thought they were taking the relationship to a new level and life there would be "Happily Ever After". However, what they found was deceit, lies, the feeling of being watched and an unsolved murder. As always, B A Paris offers up great a great story for several twist and turns at the end.

Rated 5 stars on Goodreads. Read it within an evening,
The book was exactly the kind of fun read I needed during Covid times. It was a fast evening read that kept me guessing till the last twist. The main character was a relief to me since I'm used to reading female character with addiction or a psychological disorder keeping them blind to obvious clues happening around them, With the main character in "The Therapist" never stopped suspecting those around her. Although this got tiring it was also nice since it took the guesswork away from the reader, so the reader could read leisurely. In this way the author lulls the reader into not doing the guesswork which made the twist more shocking.
Another great book from a favourite author

Alice and Leo decide to move in together. They move into an exclusive gated community called the Circle. Leo fails to tell Alice; a woman, Nina, was murdered in their new home. Alice becomes obsessed with Nina’s murder, and if one of the neighbors murdered her. As Alice becomes more entrenched in the neighborhood she she becomes suspicious of her neighbors convinced one of them is a murder or at least knows more than they are asking to. If only Alice could talk to the elusive therapist Nina was seeing, she might have answers.

Told from Alice’s point of view, the reader understands what motivates her to discover the truth about Nina’s murder. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I was turning pages so quickly so I could find out what happened next. Overall a satisfying read with twists and turns. Thank you, #netgalley and the publisher, for allowing me to review The Therapist

B.A. Paris is a writer whom I will read without knowing what the book is about. I really enjoyed, The Therapist, and liked the twists and turns the story took. I loved the red herrings and the way the twists developed. There was one which took me by complete surprise and I was left spinning. I think it was all explained well, with no questions left.

Big thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for inviting me to read an eARC of, The Therapist, in exchange for my honest review.

In the first few lines of the book, a therapist seems to have ulterior motives and seemed to select patients to fit some kind of mold of an ideal patient. For me, this set the tone for the rest of the book and helped me make sense of things that happened later. Alice has just moved to London, to begin a new life with her partner Leo. Leo did not seem interested in making new friends and shortly after, we discover why. I thought it was a brilliant way to show how talented this author is, when I could sense an eerie feeling after Alice and Leo move into the house in The Circle. This was an entertaining story.

Super! Another page turner by B A Paris. My Dad was a Psychiatrist so I’m always drawn to books highlighting mental health. Never a dull moment. This one is set in London where Alice and Leo decide to buy a house in a gated community and move in together. You will know from the beginning things are going wrong. Alice soon discovers a secret and becomes determined to get to the bottom of it. I’m the perfect reader because I never figure things out, but this one really surprised me. Thank you for the advanced copy, in return for an honest review. Bravo! #Netgalley #BAParis #TheTherapist

This book was super weird, in a very awesome way! It took a minute for me to get hooked, but that was more a product of severely limited reading time. Once I got going, I couldn't put this down! This is my first B A Paris, and I will definitely be looking for more!

Where are my B.A. Paris fans at? Her upcoming thriller, The Therapist doesn’t release until mid-July, but you gotta get it on your radar now. I fondly remember getting an ARC of the author’s debut, Behind Closed Doors way back in the day. I inhaled it in just a few days, and it still remains one of my very favorite thrillers. That book blew my mind, and I still recommend it to people today. The Therapist is just as thrilling, shocking, and unputdownable. You all know how much I love neighborhood dramas, and everyone getting into each other’s business. It’s always a great source of entertainment, am I right? Well, prepare to be thoroughly entertained when Alice and Leo move into a newly renovated house in an exclusive gated community called The Circle. Secrets emerge as Alice tries to befriend her fellow residents, and suddenly she’s desperate to solve a murder case that occurred earlier in the community. Alice begins to question everyone in The Circle, and the reader starts to speculate and point fingers right along with her. The Therapist is an extremely clever, twisty, and suspenseful whodunnit mystery that you don’t want to miss. It gets a solid 4/5 stars from me! Be sure to grab a copy this summer.

This was a fun book for me that didn't require a lot of over thinking! It was pure escapism!

I had a similar reaction when I read the author's The Breakdown in 2017 (which I loved and gave 5 stars too because it just had that addictive quality to it). So much better than last year's The Dilemma. The main character Alice even reminded me of Cass from The Breakdown! They are both naive and paranoid but I still likeable.

This one has a quick pace that kept me guessing. I enjoyed the neighborhood concept of a "gated circle" where they looked out for each other and they believed they were all really secure. Or perhaps it is more like a prison? There are 12 houses that were originally identical until some did a few renovations.

Leo and Alice are the new couple on the circle looking for a new life. It will be a bumpy ride!!

It is a lighter mystery with that quick pace that had me just enough on edge to keep turning the pages. There is some repetition, some moments I had to gasp like someone threw all the wrong ingredients in my salad, but even with much of the logic thrown out, I gobbled it up! If you prefer dark and disturbing, this may be too light for you.

Recommend to those who like a little escape, along for the ride without minding the over the top disbelief factor!

This book was received as an ARC from St. Martin's Press in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This was the ultimate thriller. I love when the book is set around a house where it is absolutely perfect and could be someone's dream home and then as we all know every house has secrets. This time it's the history and livelihood of the previous tenant being a therapist. Getting to know your neighbors is a great thing but they can reveal information that can change your life. In the case of Alice and Leo, it was not for the best. If you have a fascination for thrillers and history of homes, then this book will be right up your alley. There were many shocking moments and that had my heart racing and jaw dropping and I was actually disappointed when I was finished with this book and I am never disappointed after a thriller (I am usually relieved).

We will consider adding this title to our Adult Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

Received an ARC from Netgalley for an honest opinion.

B.A. Paris delivers another pyschological thriller that will have you questioning every one that lives in the Circle. Alice and Leo move into the exclusive community, the Circle, where the neighbors aren't very welcoming to Alice, at first. Alice discovers that a woman was murdered in the home prior to her purchase, and Alice feels responsible to figure out who committed the murder. The intrigue of the story has Alice and the readers questioning everyone's motives and alibis. Like other B.A. Paris books, this one will keep you guessing who the therapist is till the end!

I finished this creepy thriller in less than a day!

Alice and her partner, Leo, move into The Circle, a small community within London. Although she feels unsettled at first, she quickly begins to make friends with the other couples in the community, and feels a kindred connection to Nina, the previous homeowner of her new unit in The Circle. All is going well, but secrets begin to be revealed - from her neighbors, from Leo, and even Alice’s own history.

Like many B. A. Paris before, The Therapist kept me turning pages, guessing who could be trusted, and trying to figure out the mysterious lives of those who reside in the private community of The Circle.

I received a complimentary copy of The Therapist from NetGalley.  Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Great novel! This one had me on the edge of my seat for most of it! Every time I thought I had something figured out, a new piece of evidence would point me in a new direction. Alice became an amateur detective herself when she was confronted with the murder mystery history of her new house in the “The Circle”. She became suspicious of her new “friends”, their husbands, and even Leo, her own long-term common law husband as possible suspects in the murder. With the help of a handsome private investigator, Thomas Grainger, she gets closer to the truth than she intends, oh, but what a great story! (This would probably also make a great movie!)

It's only April and I've gotten to review TWO new-to-me authors! This year is a success already and it's barely a quarter past minted! I'M SO EXCITED, AND I JUST CAN'T HIDE IT...

(whew) --Pointers exhaled from my system--

Now. "The Therapist". I've had a few. But then again...they have absolutely nothing to do with this book, which is actually a real cracker of a tale which seemingly has little or nothing to do with therapy of any sort...but actually it does. Kinda sorta. I will try to explain without giving anything away, which would be a darned shame because I really enjoyed being puzzled by this story.

Alice and Leo have moved into a home in a gated community. It is, by all appearances, their dream home, obtained at a fire-sale price which ought to be waving all sorts of red flags for Alice right there, but there you go. Of course being as all of this is introduced in the first quarter of the book you know damned well that it isn't anyone's idea of a dream, and it becomes more like a nightmare, one which starts during their housewarming, where a misidentified (or is he?) guest makes an appearance. He's not who anyone thinks he is...or says he is. Who is the mysterious stranger, who later identifies himself as a private investigator? What sinister message does he share with Alice regarding the history of her new home?

Now, to be fair, having just finished a Stephen Graham Jones story a week or so prior, and being in a very horror-kinda groove, I was maybe reading some things into this story that really might not have been there. Which is a GOOD thing, actually...this means the author definitely does not telegraph her punches. To stick with the dark genre oeuvre for just a moment longer, she had a whole "House Next Door" thing going for me here, very very creepy, with a lot of the stuff happening to Alice when she is alone in the house...which she is, to an unhealthy extent, I think! But as a result of the news her PI is sharing with her, she's having serious trust issues with Leo, and I can understand why. And when one of her neighbors lays that ol' X-Files bit on her...you know, "Trust no one"...well, you might be excused for jumping to some conclusions. I sure did.

Anyway. The actual "therapist" makes frequent, abrupt appearances throughout, and you're never quite sure of the identity of this mysterious character. Until the end, which is as it should be, but it does make the little interstitial bits somewhat confusing. But stick with her, gang, she's got a pretty good thing going here. You'll end up rooting for Alice like I did, and the climax is awfully darned satisfying. This is no "cozy" mystery, no more than it's a ghost story a la Anne Rivers Siddons. B A Paris may have chopped out her own little niche here, and that can't be a bad thing.

Now then, the next question: Is it too late in the day for a run to the book store for a look-see if they have any more by her in stock...?

Fast-paced, suspenseful thriller that had me on edge, especially when I was reading it at night. The suspense is so well-done! Who to trust, how well do you know people, especially your neighbors, how safe are you in your own home - all questions the author makes you think about in this book. Kept me turning the pages! So good!!

Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Books like this are the reason I have trust issues. The unreliable narrator had me going back and forth, never knowing who to look at and suspecting everyone. At one point while I was reading I found myself thinking, “pshhh, this is so freaking obvious.”. Well, I’m an idiot and, just to quote GoT, “you know nothing, Jon Snow.”
I finally got to the last 10 pages and thought there is no way we can wrap this book up so quickly. But I’ll be damned if B.A. (does this stand for Bad Ass? Cause it should.) didn’t tie up every question I had in those ten pages.

Alice and Leo move into a newly renovated house in a gated community called The Circle. Alice feels like all is going well until she gets the shocking news that their home’s previous owner was murdered in the house and Leo knew and intentionally hid it from Alice. As Alice starts digging around to get answers about the previous owner and what happened, she begins to worry that one or more of her neighbors might have had a hand in Nina’s murder.

B.A Paris never disappoints. She has delivered another riveting, amazing thriller in her latest book. You’ll want to clear your plans once you start this story because you will not stop reading until you’ve finished. It had me hooked from the beginning with its twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat. This book was impossible to put down. The plot was extremely engaging and gripping. The main character, Alice was complex and very sympathetic. I didn’t see the end coming and I was guessing until the very end. The neighborhood reminded me of Wisteria Lane from “Desperate Housewives”. If you’re into mystery thrillers, then this one is a definite must read for you. This was a real page turner of a psychological/domestic thriller. Put this on your TBR pile for 2021.

Alice and Leo haven't known each other long but are certain they are each others forever soul mate. Leo buys house #6 in a small gated community where the neighbors know each other and he and Alice will be safe.

Except, the house has sat empty for a year because of a horrible murder. Leo knows the house has a past, but he doesn"t share this information with Alice, because Leo also has a past he needs to hide.

As the story progresses we see that this small friendly gated community has some big secrets in needs to keep and someone will go at great lengths to make that happen.

This book had great characters and a fast moving plot. Perfect twist that many will wonder how they missed.
Once again B. A. Paris has taken me on a thrilling ride.

I always look forward to this authors thrillers. I guessed at the killer and was right, but oh what a fun ride it was guessing. Great characters and plenty of people to consider as guilty.

I am a huge BA Paris fan, so I was thrilled that St,. Martin’s Press and NetGalley allowed me to read this ARC. If you have read BA Paris before, you will notice some recurring themes: relationship troubles, a feeling of isolation, and a narrator that doesn’t understand everything that is happening around her (almost an unreliable narrator, but not quite). The author is a master at creating a creepy atmosphere and this novel is no exception. Alice and Leo have moved into a close knit community in London called The Circle, where all the residents are friends and are entwined in each other’s lives. Shortly after moving in, Alice learns that several years ago, a woman was murdered in the home that Alice now lives in. She starts asking the neighbors about the woman and her death, and feels convinced that there is a conspiracy that everyone in The Circle is covering up. Excellent thriller, I definitely recommend this book!

Alice and Leo have dated for a while long distance when he suggests they buy a home and move in together, though he doesn't believe in marriage. The home sounds too good to be true at an affordable price so what could go wrong, right? She can even rent out her cottage for 6 months and move back if she wants to, as he assures her. Not too many red flags here!

Of course most of the neighbors are welcoming, though one is decidedly bitchy. The back story of the home is revealed to Alice and she knows she cannot stay there... Or can she? Maybe she can solve the mystery of the former owner!

Paris has created a story that hooked me from the first chapter. Who is telling the truth or is anyone? I love stories that make me think. Who did it? I love stories that keep me wanting to know more. Great job on this one. Highly recommend.

Thank you NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest opinion.

I could not finish this book fast enough. Alice, the main character, has many intriguing characteristics. I felt like I was in her shoes many times, wanting to change her course of action, but so scared to see how it ends. Amazing book! Be prepared to want to finish in one sitting!

I'm a huge fan of B. A. Paris, and so grateful for the opportunity to read an ARC of this. The main character, Alice, wasn't my favorite, but the storyline kept me guessing until the final reveal, which I loved. I put on my biggest thinking cap, SURE that I was going to figure it out before the end, and... nope. Paris's reveals are always much better and more intriguing than anything I'd ever think up. Solid mystery/suspense from her, once again!

Alice and her partner move into a house in a beautiful gated community. But once Alice finds out that a murder happened in their house, she is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery.

This was a fantastic psychological thriller. I foundyself completely sucked into the theories Alice created, and even created dome of my own. Each new piece of information that came to light felt as if it could point to anyone.

It was slow to get into. I wasn't sure how I felt about Alice and her partner Leo. They seemed kind of boring. But once their love story and backgrounds started to emerge, I really enjoyed them. Alice's descent into an obsessive search for the truth was interesting to read and see how it affected her relationships.

The flashbacks to therapy sessions was interesting and I loved how it was tied into the story at the end. I will definitely need to read more from this author.

Wow, another hit from author B. A. Paris! I’ve read all their books and my favorite has always been Behind Closed Doors but man The Therapist is right up there. I devoured this book in 2 days and it kept me up well past my bedtime. It had me guessing the whole time and I did not see that ending coming! A perfect summer read!

Alice soon becomes obsessed when the private investigator wants her help to clear Oliver’s name. First, the book was going well...the new house in the Circle and all the neighbours and their secrets was interesting...Even though I could not relate to Alice's obsession over Nina's murder, the storyline was captivating...Needless to say, who I had suspected as the whodunnit was wrong...Then things start happening and BOOM!!! you don't know what hit you...What an ending!!! I would have never suspected it! Great book, definitely will be recommending it to my friends!

Thanks NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and BA Paris for the ARC!!

The Therapist is a murder mystery thriller about a new couple who move in together and buy a house in an exclusive neighbourhood and soon discover that their new home has a dark past. I was lucky to have access to both the ebook and the audiobook version of The Therapist, and I have to say they were both very engaging! I switched between reading and listening to the audio because I couldn't bear to stop reading it, and ended up finishing it in 1 day. The Therapist is a very suspenseful story where almost everyone has some suspicious qualities and I kept changing my mind about what really happened. Even the ending was quite shocking. Another great thriller from B.A Paris, who is now a must read for me!

B.A. Paris does it again! Wow, oh wow! If you're looking for this year's page-turning psycho-thriller, The Therapist is it. I absolutely love Paris’s style, and just when I think there is no way she can out do herself, she does. This novel does not disappoint, and absolute must for your summer TBR list. opportunity to read and review an advanced e-copy of The Therapist. Leo and Alice move into their first home together, a house in The Circle, an exclusive gated community. Once moving in, Alice finds out how they were able to purchase a home she didn't think they could afford - a grisly murder had taken place in their home. Alice is drawn into the mystery of who committed the murder -was it the victim's husband, who was arrested and committed suicide, or one of her neighbors, or someone completely unknown to her. Alice tries to figure out what is going on, while keeping some secrets of her own, which allow her to be drawn deeper into the mystery. I will say, I usually have a pretty good idea who "done it" when reading thrillers by about half-way through, but this one I didn't see coming. It was a book I didn't want to put down until the end. This will be a great summer read!

Another knock out from B. A. Paris!! This page turner was twisty and had you wondering about each character being a suspect at different times also questioning how reliable the narrator actually was. I loved the character development and did not see the end unfolding the way it did. Was ready for another great read after Behind Closed Doors and The Therapist did not disappoint. Truly enjoy her writing style and can not wait for her next book!!

B.A. Paris does it again!

Preface: I might be biased since B.A. Paris is one of my favorite authors and I’ve seen many mixed reviews on Goodreads, but I absolutely loved this book! I was so excited since her last book was released in 2019 (The Dilemma), that is way too long of a wait for a fan!

Let me tell you, she has not lost her touch with Thrillers! This story kept me guessing until the very end! Plus, the story unfolded with an action-packed bang and I couldn’t have been happier.

I felt this story to be quite creative, never read anything like it. There were multiple characters but, again, I felt so invested in the characters and the story that I felt like I was right there with Alice discovering who my neighbors are.

Overall, great writing, great thriller! Highly recommend anything from B.A. Paris!

I requested this title because I have read and enjoyed other titles by B.A. Paris. This novel features a mystery element, who really killed Nina, along with a psychological thriller of a possible neighborhood cover-up. Alice moves to an seemingly secure and exclusive neighborhood in London, The Circle, with her partner Leo. Alice quickly finds out that she is living in the house of murder victim Nina and that the murder took place in the bedroom where she and Leo now sleep. Greatly unnerved, Alice desires to know more about the murder and finds out that not everyone belives Nina's husband, Oliver, was the murderer. Alice begins to speculate which of her neighbors could have committed the crime, while also dealing with trust issues in her relationship with Leo and the uneasy feeling that someone is sneaking into their house at night. Alice's obsession to find out what happened to Nina creates a wedge between her partner and her new friends, but will it lead to the true killer's identity? A well constructed, evenly paced thriller with solid character development. Highly recommended.

I was excited to get copies of the ebook and audiobook ARCs. This one threw me for a loop. I thought that I had it figured out for about the first half of the book ... It seemed really obvious what the outcome was going to be. But there were a bit more twist and turns, and you don't quite end up where you think you will. I think anybody who enjoys thrillers and will be able to get through that beginning where it feels a little too obvious, will enjoy this.

A big thanks to the author, publisher, and that galley for the ARC.

I have to say it, BA Paris you’ve done it yet again! This author is one of my favorites and ALWAYS gives you one wild ride reading her books! Alice and Leo have started dating and are seeing each other on weekends due to work and living distance. They want to change this and decide to take the next step together, getting a house. The house they buy is listed for a great price and is in a gated beautiful community! The community has 12 houses that all are built around a circle. Sounds like the perfect dream home, except Leo neglects to tell Alice his girlfriend why the house is listed for a steal …. Something to do with the previous owners. With this being said, Alice starts to do some digging and the entire community get flipped upside down in so many ways! Everyone in this community has secrets and they all start unfolding one by one!

This one was a crazy ride! I felt this book flew and had me on edge thinking about what was going to happen next! I felt all the emotions while reading this for the main character - the betrayal, all the emotions, and the firework ENDING! You’re in for a treat with this thriller! I highly recommend checking this one out when it hits the shelves in July!!! Thank you St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for my advanced reader copy

This is a twisted tale that will keep you guessing. Is Alice imagining people coming into the house at night? She is obsessed with finding out the truth about the woman who was murdered in the house she is now living in. I was all over the place trying to figure it out and I have to admit I was nowhere close to guessing. This one will keep you on the edge of your seat. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

This was a twisty little thriller that really packed a punch! I loved secrets and the way this one unfolds. I kept getting surprised again and again! The characters were great, and I felt they were believable. I liked the situation and how it affects everyone. The pacing was a little slower than I would have liked at the beginning, but it definitely gets going and doesn't stop!!

I was provided a gifted copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.

B.A. Paris does it again! I was so thrilled to receive this arc! I read Behind Closed Doors years ago and still think about it! I always recommend Paris and she’s on the top of my list for authors-to-read.

The Therapist is another thrilling, mysterious Paris masterpiece. Alice and her boyfriend Leo move into a tight knit “circle” of homes. The neighbors all seem to be friends and know each other’s business. Alice invites everyone for drinks in an attempt to join the circle clique. Afterward she is approached by a man (PI) asking what it’s like to live in a house where a murder occurred. Alice is upset and absolutely shocked as she had no idea. She becomes obsessed with what happened to Nina (the previous owner). This man becomes a large part of her life as he’s the only one she can tell her findings to.

Alice begins to suspect everyone in the circle, as did I. It even drives a wedge between her and Leo. This story kept me on my toes the entire time. I was constantly trying to figure out whodunit before Alice. Paris scatters clues throughout the story but it’s never obvious. I couldn’t put this story down I had to know how it would end for Alice and what really happened. Great thriller read!

Paris produced another freaky read. It’s not as frightening as a few of her books have been, but it will still make you have the urge to look behind doors at night. How would you feel if you moved into a home where the previous owner had been murdered? Alice and her partner have moved into a secluded neighborhood but it all quickly falls apart. Sensations of so,some being in the house, unanswered questions, creepy people. Paris gets the reader to doubt everyone living in The Circle. I locked up on one important clue early on but was unsure how it fit until much later in the book. I kept asking myself why is no one else mentioning this?? The real culprit was obscure and I kick myself for not seeing it. I like to think I’d be a super investigator in real, life, but actually I’m a good detective in fiction only. Read The Therapist and see who is to blame and the real story. You don’t want to miss it and you won’t need a therapist.

I loved this book, lots of twists, lots of who can be trusted, even the narrator. Alice finds out about a crime that has happened in her house and she becomes obsessed with finding out what happened. Her need for juistice for the victim and her sister and husband takes on a life of it's own and leave us wondering about Alice herself. Read this book

Well, that was very good. Talk about a quick, addictive read. I have loved BA Paris. Behind Closed Doors is to this day a favorite. The Therapist....it was pretty darn good.
.
I love the premise. You have this gated community in London and basically....you suspect everyone. Technically the murder case has been solved so it runs through your mind. Are we dealing with an unreliable narrator? Who should we trust? I really enjoyed it. It had a readability that kept me completely invested. I’m going to recommend it. I would compare it to...if you like Girl on the Train. Or even Lisa Jewell. Pick it up!

Hold onto your hats for this ride! I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping thriller that had me guessing right up to the very end.

Leo and Alice have been long-distance dating for over a year and Leo buys a home in the exclusive gated community known as The Circle in London where the homes are built around a park/square area. All the neighbors seem to spend a lot of time standing in the windows spying on everyone else. Leo and Alice settle in quite well until Alice discovers that the previous owner, Nina Maxwell, a therapist, was murdered in the home and Leo knew about it when he bought it, but did not tell her. Their relationship begins to unravel and Alice becomes obsessed with the murder partly because her dead sister's name was Nina also. Alice questions the neighbors every chance she gets about the murder and strange things begin to happen in the home at night. Lots of twists and turns in this very interesting and spooky story with an ending I did not see coming.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC of this very interesting whodunit.

I absolutely love domestic thrillers and B. A. Paris excels in this genre. I really enjoyed The Therapist. There4 were so many secrets and liars in this novel, and a couple of very engaging twists.

Another zinger from BA Paris! Talk about a twisty mystery!! Kept me glued to the book, completely mesmerized and eagerly anticipating the end. This is a slow burn psychological mystery thriller that builds until it reaches an explosive ending.

Alice and Leo move into The Circle, a gated high end community near London. Leo is only able to afford the house because a young psychotherapist named Nina was brutally murdered there by her husband several months earlier. Alice, who is unaware of this fact when she first moves in, discovers it shortly after hosting a housewarming with neighbours. After learning about the murder, she becomes emotionally drawn into Nina’s life and tries to determine if Nina’s husband was really the murderer?

The plot was well crafted. Many plausible suspects were presented. The writing flowed well. This author has a way with words that keeps the reader hooked. As always, the first person perspective added a layer of tension and foreboding. Worth the read!

A gracious thank you to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was full of twists and turns, and kept me thinking. I don't know who had more theories about Nina's murder; me or Alice!
The book follows the main character Alice, who is in her new house with her domestic partner Leo. Leo found the perfect house for them to move to in a gated community with 12 houses. The tight-nit community called "The Circle," since all the houses are arranged in a circle around a middle square section, which has a playground for the children. Alice reluctantly agreed to move there with Leo, and leave her family cottage, for Leo's work travels. What Alice didn't know is that Leo hid from her that a murder had taken place in their house where a woman named Nina was brutally murdered. Her husband Oliver was presumed to be guilty of the murder, as he committed suicide during the police investigation.
The way Alice finds out about all this is when a private investigator comes to see her about the murder. It seems he was hired by Oliver's sister Helen, who is terminally ill, to prove Oliver's innocence. Once Alice gets involved with the investigation she starts to see that everything is not always as it seems. She starts to suspect everyone around her is covering something up, and the only way she can go on is to find out what really happened.
As I said in beginning, there were many twists in the stories of all the occupants in the Circle, and I started to suspect everyone, just like Alice. I would never want to ruin the story for anyone else, so I guess you will just have to read it to get to the bottom of it!

Alice and Leo have been in a long distance relationship for two years and have decided to move to the next step, and Leo picks out a beautiful house in London in a gated community called The Circle. The neighbors seem to be a close knit group and as Alice and Leo become acquainted with them, secrets come to light. Nina Maxwell and her husband Oliver lived in their house prior. Alice finds out that Nina was murdered in that house and her husband, Oliver, was suspected of murdering her and ended up killing himself. As Alice begins to ask questions, the neighbors begin to get aggravated and really do not want to discuss the murder. Alice cannot seem to accept that Oliver murdered his wife. She begins to suspect various people in the neighborhood and tries to find out what really happened to Nina. Is the killer living among them? Was it someone else? The twists and turns make this book a quick read and will have you guessing until the end about what happened to Nina! B.A. Paris is one of my favorite authors and did not disappoint once again! Thanks to #NetGalley #StMartinsPress for the ARC. #TheTherapist

B. A. Paris has quickly become my top 5 favorite authors. The books are guaranteed to keep me on my toes questioning every single character's motives--including the main one who seems innocent of any of the random things that are happening in his/her life. It is so difficult to put down books by this author. (Fortunately my husband doesn't mind cooking dinner now and then. )

I loved the character development in this book. It certainly adds to the story as most people do things that are questionable now and then, but in a story of this caliber, the actions throw in quite a number of red herrings. While one of the people I guessed might be responsible, was, that person was one of the many I suspected it could have been, and I was never sure. There were also some totally unexpected developments along the way.

This is definitely another 5-star page turner.

Another great book by B.A. Paris! I will say that it had a bit of a slow build up as we learn the characters and dynamics of The Circle which is the neighborhood this story takes place in. Once I got toward the middle of the book I realized the time that was given to learning the characters was necessary to fully understand where the story was heading. I looked forward to reading each day that I had a chance to pick up this book.

A couple (Alice and Leo) move in together into a home that is in a gated community with only nine homes in it. Apparently, with a community so small, everyone knows what is going on with each other. The cliques are already in place as most of the residents have lived there for some time now. They all knew the previous residents of home Number 6. A tragedy happened at that residence before the new couple bought it, unbeknownst to Alice. Leo knew about it before buying the house but failed to tell Alice. Once Alice finds out about this, she is on a mission from day one to find out who killed the previous female resident. She is told the killer was the female resident's husband but she is not convinced.

Due to Alice's psychological issues with a past trauma she suffered with her parents and sister she is even more propelled in the direction of solving this crime she knows was not investigated properly. Throughout her investigation she runs into roadblocks and angry people. People who do not want this revisited. The story moves forward and does not really lag in areas which is always enjoyable. The ending was satisfying and gave good closure.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Nina was a therapist. She is dead, murdered by her husband Oliver who then committed suicide.

Of course, when Alice and Leo move into a dream house on The Circle, an exclusive gated street in London, Alice doesn’t know this. Leo hasn’t told her. He thought she might be upset to learn that a woman was tortured and killed in their master bedroom. He’s right and soon Leo is spending his nights either with friends or on business travel and Alice is sleeping on a couch in the downstairs study. While Alice begins to obsess about Nina’s murder, creepy things start to happen on The Circle. If Oliver, described by all as loving and kind, didn’t kill his wife, who did? Was it one of the neighbors? Was it a mystery attacker? Why did he/she cut off Nina’s hair? Could they all be targeted. And…who does Alice hear in the house at night?

All questions will be answered before the explosive conclusion of The Therapist. Dark, misleading and intense, this thriller is B.A. Park’s best. You won’t be able to figure it out and you won’t be able to put it down. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and B.A. Parks for this ARC.

When Alice finds out she is obsessed to figure out which of her interesting neighbors might be the murderer. They all seem to be harboring secrets.
This psychological thriller kept the pages turning to the surprise ending. B.A. Paris is a master storyteller and she made all the characters seem like suspects to me. I love anything written by B. A. Paris, and this was no exception.

Have you ever awakened in the middle of the night thinking someone was watching you? If so, then THIS is the book for you!

Paris has this way of confusing the flip out of me - mostly because her main characters are also confused. Their minds race, they invent theories, and they accuse, accuse, accuse. And as they do it, so do I.

I will admit that I suspected every single character in this book, but I had my mind set on one particular one for most of it. I thought I had it alllll figured out. I even told my husband what I just KNEW was going on in this small, creepy neighborhood.

I was wrong.

I was so wrong.

And the instant when I realized I was wrong was a spine tingling, heart racing, stomach dropping moment!

Paris does it again!!

I am such a fan of B.A Paris. I love suspense stories focused on secrets & relationships and The Therapist brings this in spades.

Leo and Alice move into their dream house in The Circle, a swanky, close-knit gated community. But as Alice gets to know her neighbours, she finds out that what she thought was a dream turns out to be more of a nightmare and the people closest to her are hiding some serious secrets.

I won't lie, Alice can be a frustrating character- the kind you want to shake some sense into as you watch her make one bad decision after another as her paranoia builds. Nina is a very interesting character and I was drawn to her story.

B. A. Paris always delivers with sharp writing and deftly written domestic scenarios. Go into this one knowing it's much more domestic suspense and you won't be disappointed.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an eARC of this title!

I've been B.A.Paris' fan for many years and always looking forwards to her new novels. When I received an advanced copy of "The Therapist" - I read it right away. B.A.Paris always intrigues me with her unique twists, and this novel was not an exception.

"Do you know what Henry David Thoreau believed? Happiness is like a butterfly, the more you chase it, the more it will elude you. But if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder." said The Therapist. A famous quote to live by, and in the case of The Therapist - to lure new clients into their web.

The novel was nothing that I expected of it. The main character Alice who has struggled with her past and an obsession over the death of her family, and mostly her sister finds an interesting fact about the new house she and the boyfriend recently moved into. The obsession with the woman who lived and died in the house grew over Alice's desire to make new friends from the gated neighborhood. It blinded her to the point when she overlooked a very important detail that almost cost her the relationship and most importantly - her own life.

The novel is full of million and one plot twists and secrets. I loved the story and mystery that surrounded the gated community. It was hard to put the book down. Thank you St. Martin's Publishing Group for a free and advanced copy of this novel and B.A.Paris for yet another great novel.

I found this book very readable! I was hooked early on and enjoyed the slow buildup to the final conclusion. I really enjoyed the neighborhood feel of "The Circle" and learning about all the residents. This thriller definitely kept me guessing. I can see how this will be a really great summer read, as its pacing moves you right along. If you have enjoyed B.A. Paris's other books, you will definitely enjoy this one!

Thank you for the chance to read and review this book by one of my favorite authors. This one did not disappoint!
A couple moves in together in a subdivision in London. The homes are all the same and built on a circle. This is a gated community but a murder has taken place here.
The male part of this couple negected to tell his female partner that a murder had taken place in their beautiful new home. As she gets to know her neighbors, she suspects they are lying to her and about her.
There are so many twist to this story that I read it in two sittings and could not put it down. I do highly recommend this as her best book yet.

Another amazing novel by B.A. Paris. The Therapist has everything a good thriller should- amazing characters, twists and turns, and a dramatic ending. It was hard to put down and had me guessing until the very end.

Thank you, Net Galley, for an advanced copy of this book.

Quite enjoyed this whodunnit thriller! I am a big B.A. Paris fan tho. I kept trying to figure out who did it, but I was thrown in so many directions I never got it until it was revealed. That’s a well written book in my opinion!

I have read all of B A Paris’ book and have enjoyed them all.
This one had me on the edge of seat at various points throughout and had me guessing until the very end.

Intriguing from the beginning, Paris’ manages to weave a story that like the main character has you second guessing “who did it”. There is definitely some creepy moments that stayed with me but the major plot twist at the end was nothing but pure brilliance!

B.A. Paris does it again!

This was a wish for it book and I couldn't have been more excited. I'm an immense fan of Paris' books.

The Dilemma was less than I had hoped for being it was more drama less thriller so I had my fingers crossed that The Therapist would make up for it and it did.

The Therapist went far and beyond my expectations. I couldn't solve it before the reveal but not for lack of trying. I was all over the place in my theories of what was what and who was doing what and once I got there I was floored.

A brutal murder in a gated cul-de-sac community. You know full well the murder was committed by someone in The Circle but who and why?

Paris' characters are strong and easy to attach to as always. You're immediately sucked into the story right from the get go. The Circle is described so vividly described that I could see everyone's house while I read. The story twisted and turned and I couldn't stop reading. Paris has a flair for intensity. She leaves you gasping for breath on nearly every turn and makes you excited for the next one.

I'm not giving anything away on this one. You are just going to have to read it, enjoy the ride and try not fall off. When the reveal comes you'll bolt upright and scream, "Oh...my...gawd."

I am so honored that I had my wish granted on this one. I've been lapse in my reading and this was the perfect book to bring me back. I finished it 24hrs. I rarely give 5 stars to a book but I am on this one.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for granting me a chance to read this before so many others get a chance. Also a big thank you to B.A. Paris for her amazing talent.
