Description
Gathering inspiration from a life of travel, hope, long-distance relationships, healing, and adventure, Frayne invites readers into her world. The Gravity Inside Us is an ode to whatever it is we carry that pulls us in and out of place, and speaks so insistently of fate. Through writing about her own experiences, this book is a reach into that space.

A beautiful collection of poems! I had a great time reading them and really enjoyed the entire collection overall.
*Thanks Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
This book had some really wonderful poetry. It made you think about everything after every page. You should not read this book 1 one setting but take your time and think about everything you think it is saying to you
I haven't read an anthology in a while and this was such a good and interesting one, it was really beautiful. Author did a good job !!!
There are some really beautiful poems in here and if you enjoy simple, lyrical poetry, I think you'll love this collection. For me, it was a hit and a miss as it is with many works of poetry. There were a handful of poems that I really loved and would read over and over, but then there were others that felt very generic and I just felt like I wanted a little more out of it. It's a really quick read though and I had a good reading experience with the book!
I LOVED THIS. So many beautiful poems and so many I just felt inside my heart. Even if I didn't have the same experiences as the auhor I could still reasonate with them. Also finally a poem about "her" and that was just nice because all poems about "hims" just hit different for my lesbian self.
My favorite:
I hope
the light
is finding you
even (especially)
when you do not
have the strength
to go
looking for it.
Humans can sense magnetic fields.
Theres something that starts inert but ignites.
"Stop holding your humanity like a failure" becomes so powerful when you can externalise your condition.
Hope, Courage, Dream.
There's diametric feelings in the same poem. The certain setting sun Vs those who have not fallen into place. softness vs strength.
A good poet will convince you to go on their journey and make you feel what they feel. With minimalist lines, you still follow the poet to big feelings.
Earth when moving is fickle and stable when it stands still.
Trying to forget loves, still hoping that the virtue melts the disheartened.
Without titles, theres a run along feeling of no demarcations from one poem to another, from one feeling to another..
With April right around the corner, here's my prompts:
1. When you like some good imagination like the " I want to be a field of wild flowers.." add or remove the "I want to be" to see its effect on you.
2. "If a mind is a museum.."
3. "I lost but remained". Nice unpunning.
4. "Still me". Even after love gone sour. Could this be a beginning for your poem?
5. "Fear is not a second language". What if fear is a second language? Like you are not doing it right.
I really enjoyed several of the author's poems, especially ones that were sea or nautical-themed. I enjoyed the beginning and ending most. The middle was a bit slower for me to get through. I found the use of 2nd person to be tiring, even though it totally works for poetry, it just began to feel like she was speaking to the same person over and over again.
Overall, it was enjoyable and I would recommend it to someone who is maybe going through a breakup or experiencing their first breakup.
At its center, this book is about following your heart. Gravity draws things down to where they belong and that is what each of us are tasked with in this life- to allow the falling, to awaken to the journey, and to see where it leads,
This poem was a rollercoaster for me. Some were just okay and I didn't have a reaction to them. Others filled my eyes with tears and I saved the page so I could return to them again and again like a spell. Though there were some points of disengagement throughout my reading, Chloe's poignant meditations on what it means to love and let go of both people and places was extremely compelling. I felt like I was invited into Chloe's heart as she asked herself the BIG questions that we all ask, but are often too afraid to admit. I especially resonated with the themes around what it means to be a person who loves hard and fast. I also was super pleased to discover that this had LGBTQ representation.
If you need a poetry collection that can help you to let go, heal, and reflect on your past experiences with kindness and grace then this one is for you.
Think we’ve all had a love that ended, but as forever stuck with us. Beautiful set of poems about love and that forever feeling towards someone our heart will never fully let go of.
This poetry collection was poignant. It reaches out to share the heartbreak of lost love without beating a dead horse or sounding defeated. Chloe is an artist with her words and invites us to experience life alongside her in a way that few poets can fully capture.
One thing - this book needs to be proofread for grammar. The inconsistency of the capitalization was a bit distracting once I realized it was a problem. Are we capitalizing on the start of each sentence? Each new line? Only specific words?
This was right up my alley. I love poetry books like this and the writing is beautiful. I look forward to more works by this author!
The Gravity Inside of Us was my first foray into poetry collections and what a wonderful introduction it was. In this book the author talks of love, of lose, of heartbreak, and of the struggle of finding a singular place to stay. Through it all though you get this underlying question of what connects us to each other and especially to one person when we fall in love. Is it magic or something unknowable and un-understandable or maybe is it something as simple as gravity.
I absolutely Love this author, been following her work for years. I've read with equal pleasure her other books and was not disappointed by this one. Great collection, beautiful images and thoughts. Loved it!
this was such an emotional and raw book. at times i could also relate to it. i do recommend reading this one. an easy read but so beautiful!

A poetry collection with focuses on love, hope, adventure, and longing, this anthology is lyrical and demands that the reader reflect on the words to allow the depth to truly set in. Frayne writes about her own experiences and seeks to connect with those on the other end of her words. Chapter titles include "a beckoning," "saltwater words," and "a home for an ocean."
I found myself connecting with many of Frayne's words, but this in particular stuck with me:
I have given love
every chance
I've ever had.
I won't spend
a moment
of my life
regretting that.
I find that this poem also portrays the driving forces behind the anthology. With that said, I absolutely recommend this, especially to those who enjoy lyrical poetry and seek connection through words and literature.
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this one, but the description I read had me thinking it would be the type of poetry that I usually enjoy, and I was right. Frayne uses beautiful language and imagery in each piece, some varying from a simple few lines to full prose. Most of the pieces were centered on love, both finding and losing love - with special emphasis on long distance relationships. I really enjoyed the flow and progression throughout the collection and how the themes shifted over time as the author discussed the wide range of emotions that are twisted into any relationship.
There is a beauty in grief.
I'm not a huge poetry fan, but I really liked Chloë's collection. It explores an angle of grief that isn't normally seen. Gravity is inside everything, and is a natural feeling. I loved how Frayne explored the themes of gravity and love through her own feelings from her ex and tells a powerful story to her future and her future partner.
Frayne's verse was so beautifully written, and it shone a bright light on grief and gravity. There was at some points where I thought it was slow, but it was so powerful to read.
*Thank you to Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the chance to review this ARC."
I really enjoyed most of these poems, but at times some really felt like a loose collection of ideas. I felt like so many of the poems were too short, and I would have liked to see the author explore their thoughts a little more, and add more depth to some of the poems. With that being said, these poems are well written and there is a nice collection of poem lengths and genres explored.
Thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book has something in it for everyone—every poem or piece of encouragement may not be what you need, and so could seem trite or cliché. But the pieces that do resonate with you will do strongly, and you'll be glad you read it for that.
There were so many soft and beautiful love poems that made my heart melt. Some of them reminded me of Tyler Knott Gregson, who was the first poet I ever fell in love with.
The poems flow together very well; at many points it seems like several pages are one long poem. The collection overall is also very aesthetically pleasing. Its style (black text centered on white pages, short lines) works well with the themes of the poems.
Some of my favorite lines were "I thought of all the things I wanted to say to you and I swallowed a sea," "there is always on my hands," and "how contagiously alive you are."
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who is in love, who has been through heartbreak, who likes seeing their emotions played back for them in soft and beautiful ways.
I found this poetry collection to be quite beautiful! Most of the poetry focused on love (sapphic one, YAS) and the inability to forget about a past love after it's over! Therefore they were quite sad and some lyrics were pretty wow! However, they got a bit repetitive and too similar at times!
I love any poetry so maybe I am not the best person to be telling you that this book is worth the investment. The thing is.... I only review what I believe 😀 and I have enjoyed every part of the book.
The first section remains my favorite. Most of poems captured my imagination and left me thinking, which is what all good poetry should do.
The middle selections of poems I would recommend taking your time reading. I read them one after another one morning over breakfast and then found that I spent the rest of the day a little sad-ish. It could have just been the day but the poems got me thinking of people and events from my past, whereas the first selection had left me pondering life.
The last third of the book perfectly wove every ounce of the book together and I was left pleased to have been given a copy of The Gravity Inside Us.
I think I will always enjoy poetry and I am thankful to my year 13 English teacher for introducing me to genre and the treasure that every word holds. I was given gift by that teacher (unfortunately I don't remember her name, I can still see her but her name is gone). She showed me how to take piece of literature and read between the lines. Before being introduced to poetry I hated reading. That particular teacher gave me one genre of literature that I could love and treasure for the rest of my life.
Anyway..... before I go any further down my schooling years, I will give credit to Chloe Frayne for the words, metaphors and thoughts that she has connected together into beautiful pieces of poetry for the world to enjoy.
I really enjoyed this collection of poems. Beautifully written and very wistful.
Id have liked a bit more of the hopeful poems then the heartbroken despair but would recommend.
Thank you for the arc.
