Description
When your best friend is a unicorn, every day is a stroll down the red carpet. Phoebe Howell’s unicorn BFF, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, is happy to provide the celebrity treatment—teaching Phoebe fancy new spells, giving her a ride to school so she doesn’t have to ride the bus, and even negotiating with the tooth fairy on her behalf.
But when Phoebe starts noticing that unicorns have become a trendy fashion statement, she doesn’t feel quite so unique. Fortunately, she’s distracted by adventures including a visit to the unicorn community and a trip to the woods to see her friend Dakota receive an unusual honor at the goblin award ceremony. Unicorn Famous is filled with amusing examples of the extraordinary lengths friends will go to make each other feel special.

This unicorn book is so cute! Kids love the graphic novel style and unicorns are more popular than ever right now. It had a good storyline and the pictures were colorful and awesome! I know this book will be a definite hit!
Sparkling! This series highlights the friendship of Phoebe and Marigold, and refuses to rehash the same stories and jokes. This installment was hilarious and full of unicorns (not just Miss Heavenly Nostrils herself) and my fav part was the visit to the water park!
I downloaded this galley for my 10yo who has loved all of the previous Unicorn books. This one is no exception! He literally shouted with joy when I told him he could read an advanced copy, and then immediately devoured it in a matter of minutes. The slightly rude humor and larger-than-life characters of this series have always been a huge hit. Thank you!!
A fun and easy childeren book. Im gonna buy this one cause my daughter loved it so much. She wants me to read it everynight for her
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.
Dana Simpson's Phoebe and the Unicorn series is a favourite in my house and in my classroom! The latest instalment is no exception - it is a must have. Phoebe is back and as hilarious as ever.
Thumbs up from my 7 year old reader. She's a big fan of this series and said this on was the best yet. Kids love this series, and I will continue to recommend them to library patrons.
I absolutely love everything related to Phoebe and Marigold. These are my favorite comics and I’m so happy every time a new one comes out
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The cover of this book is great.
The illustrations are fantastic.
The storyline was interesting and fun for my two kids and I.
We had a blast reading this together.
I'd definitely read others by this author!
Dana Simpson is one of my top 3 favorite web cartoonists, I loved Ozy and Millie to pieces, so take a Unicorn and add her wit and you're on to something. This volume does not disappoint.
Perfect for fans of comics, unicorns, and on point, yet kind humor.
Phoebe and her Unicorn is such a fabulous comic series for young ones. I get such a kick out of Marigold Heavenly Nostrils character and how all unicorns find themselves to be utter perfection. Despite her vainness, Marigold cares deeply about imaginative geeky Phoebe and is quite proud of her human friend. Full of wit and charm, readers of all ages will enjoy the interactions between the two. I enjoyed how most of the arcs were a few pages long and though separate ideas went together quite nicely. Unicorn Famous is a great addition to the Phoebe and her Unicorn collection but also a lot of fun for first time readers. If you enjoy classic comic strips this modern day strip will take you back to fond memories of Calvin and Hobbes and Peanuts.
Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. I love this whole series. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.
Lovely read. My mum's been trying to improve her English. This book certainly helped her with vocabulary. It warmed my heart. It has lovely illustrations and the writing is amazing. I did chuckle a few times myself. Amazing!
Another fabulous book from Dana Simpson. Though the stories show the life of a grade schooler, she doesn't talk down to them and even includes a glossary in every book because her vocabulary might be above their reading level.
Phoebe and Marigold are back again talking about unicorn fashion and going to the goblin awards as well as a water park. We learn more about unicorn lore including what unicorns used to think about thunder and a story about caring what others think.
One of my favorite storylines is the relationship between Phoebe and her frenemy Dakota. I'm loving seeing how they went from mean girl and the person she bullied to both of them slowly growing.
Four and a half stars

Opinions are my own
After having a best friend who’s a unicorn for quite a while now, Phoebe discovers that unicorns have become popular and she’s not sure whether she’s okay with that or not. I, too, was into unicorns before they were cool so I understand where Phoebe is coming from.
Marigold employs her skills as a tooth fairy negotiator. Like all parents do, whether they want to admit it or not, Phoebe’s dad attempts to customise her. Phoebe and Marigold enjoy a day out at the water park.
Dakota receives a Blarty Award but she’s not entirely sure what the award is for since she doesn’t speak goblin. Marigold proves she has great taste in movies.
Dakota and Phoebe settle on being kind of friends. Phoebe makes her own Halloween costume without any magical unicorn assistance. And my personal favourite, Claustrophoebea and Pointyhead make another long overdue appearance.
I can’t believe I still love this series so much! This is the thirteenth time I’ve been allowed to see what lies beneath the Shield of Boringness and I’d hang out with Marigold and her human, Phoebe, again tomorrow if Marigold was inclined to magic up the fourteenth graphic novel by then.
There’s a great blend of comics that explore things we already know in a new way, like Marigold’s obsession with her reflection, and entirely new, very important unicorn related information.
“Unicorn sneers will make 62% of your freckles fall off.”
We also discover what’s to blame for us not being able to get negative comments out of our heads. It was peanut butter all along. Who would have suspected something that’s seemingly innocuous was capable of something so dastardly?!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to fall in love with this graphic novel early.
This book was received as an ARC from Andrews McMeel Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I have to say by far this was my favorite of the Phoebe and Her Unicorn Adventure series. This really opened up my eyes on the relationship Phoebe and Marigold had with one another and Phoebe realizes how special and unique their relationship is. The dialogue and humor in the conversations with Phoebe and Marigold are so humorous and relatable which I believe is the reason why this series is so popular with our young reader community and the fact that Marigold is a very pretty unicorn thanks to the magnificent illustrations.
We will consider adding this title to our JGraphic Novel collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
Received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
"I shall read it through horn osmosis." That line made me laugh pretty hard! As always, the comics follow Phoebe and her best friend who just so happens to be a unicorn. The sense of humor is great and the artwork simple but easy to follow. Marigold is sassy and self-centered but she's really entertaining and has some great one-liners. She can get pretty dark too which makes the comics even funnier!
Highly recommend for any comic book fans!
I have to admit that I requested this book from NetGalley in hopes that my daughter could read this. But it was only readable on my Netgalley app so she didn't get to read it. I read it and I have to say, there were some really amusing points. I've never read any of these books but I did find that Phoebe and Marigold the Unicorn's banter was really funny. And Marigold's super ego is hilarious. I thought some of the parts were disjointed but honestly, it may be something that kids gravitate towards. The book seems to take 2-3 pages to go through one skit and then start a new skit. For my daughter who loves unicorns and humor, I think this would be a huge hit.
This book was cute! I loved reading it as an adult and thought it was very funny. As a 5th-6th grade special education teacher, I thought some of the dialogue and conversations between characters were too advanced-almost as if this book was written for adults or teenagers. I am not sure I would choose to read this one aloud to my class. However, I do have some students that I know would still find this story humorous. I loved the message of self-acceptance and the encouragement that we can be whatever we want to be! That is definitely something I want all of my students to believe and understand. Thank you for this ARC!
Good book. Both of my girls (ages 6 and 10) liked it as a bedtime story. Fun characters. .
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with an ARcC copy in exchange for my honest review.
Unicorn Famous is an excellent addition to the Phoebe and her Unicorn series. It brings the same great relationship between Phoebe and Marigold, but with new scenarios. I found this one to be particularly funny and on point, although I have enjoyed them all. Phoebe’s relationship with her frenemy was a high point of this one along with the realization of unicorns being trendy. A must read for elementary/middle school graphic novel enthusiasts!
I have read all of the Phoebe and Her Unicorn books, and this latest does not disappoint. Dana Simpson's fun illustrations and clever writing make this story that I want to keep coming back to. It is really great for all ages to read. I love following Phoebe through each year and I hope there are many more volumes to come.
Phoebe and Marigold hit the right notes once again. From unicorn t-shirt trends to water parks to Halloween costumes, they are friends through good decisions and bad, with and without flaws. Readers don’t have to have read the other books in the series to love and appreciate this one.
Another instalment in the Phoebe and her Unicorn series, I've only read another one out of 13 so far, but I liked this one better. I already knew these comics from online, but having the bind up makes the comics instead of a being single strip, some stories take more than a strip, and it gets deeper into the relationships. Marigold, the unicorn, is so sassy and wile her humour suits the middle grade readers, whom are the intended audience, she says some things that I think adults will appreciate as well.
It's a fun comics series for kids, that adults can enjoy as well.
I thank Netgalley and Andrews McMeel publishing for the digital ARC
It’s always cause for celebration in our household when Dana Simpson announces a new release of the Phoebe and her Unicorn series. The latest in the series, Unicorn Famous, yet again, kept my daughter and I giggling. This one was harder to put down, and the phrase, “just a few more pages” was heard often at bedtime. In fact, Unicorn Famous had my daughter attempting to covertly skirt bedtime as she hid the book under the covers.
Simpson has an amazing talent of creating unique and relatable characters. My daughter can see her own Dad in the video gaming father, and she has classmates who remind her of Max, Phoebe, and Dakota. For this reason, my 9 year old adored seeing more of Dakota, but she lamented that there were less parts with Max. Which just goes to show, the more you read the series, the easier you fall in love with all the characters (even minor ones). We will eagerly await the next release of Phoebe and her Unicorn, and, until then, we will continue reliving Marigold’s adventures through rereading.
I wanted to extend a huge thank you to Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for our honest review.
Another excellent addition to this series that my unicorn-loving children absolutely love! They laughed their heads off reading this book.
For a lot of comic serieses, such as Big Nate, Fox Trot, etc, the jokes start getting old, and repetitive. When you're cycling through the same characters, and they never grow any older, it's inevitable that plot lines are going to start sounding familiar.
We're 13 installments into the Phoebe and Her Unicorn series, and I'm still marveling at the number of insane ways Dana Simpson has Phoebe and Marigold interact.
In fact, even when we get throw backs to prior plot points, they're hysterical Easter eggs for the people who've been reading and re-reading the previous volumes.
I fear I will never get tired of this series. I hope it goes on forever.
Very cute, this is the kind of book I would have loved when I was younger, and still do! I haven't read Dana Simpson's other Unicorn books, but the illustrations were adorable, and I would definitely recommend or buy it for the younger readers in my life. I may even check a few of the others out for fun!
4.5 stars...
My ten-year-old loves this series and enjoyed this book. It was very fun and creative. This book fell in line well with the previous books in this series.
If I had children, I would definitely pick up this series. It is fun and cute with an interesting plot that is easy to follow! The illustrations are great and made me want to pick up the previous books as well!
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC of this book.
Read and reviewed by seven-year-old Amy.
Unicorn Famous is a graphic novel in which Pheobe has a friend who has turned into a unicorn. Pheobe also rides the unicorn. There are many funny instances, and the story is highly engaging. There are no confusing or boring parts.
The cover and illustrations of this book are great, and I loved the friendship between humans and unicorns.
I recommend this book to children six years and above.
I will be glad to read more books by this author.
These Phoebe and Unicorn collections are always sweet and charming. They show the best of childhood without being overly saccharine. I’d recommend them even to an adult reader who just wants a few minutes escape from all the less pleasant parts of life.
The latest in the Phoebe and her Unicorn series does not disappoint! My 7 year old and I have been reading these books together since she was about 3 years old, and we get so excited when a new one is available. For anyone who is a fan of unicorns this is a must read. Don't we all want our very own unicorn best friend? I sure do, and reading about Phoebe and Marigold Heavenly Nostrils is a good substitute.
Such a fun and adorable graphic novel. I totally get why it is one of my 8- year- old's favorites! Dana Simpson has built a really entertaining world, and I love her sly commentary on modern culture. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a new series for middle grade readers!
This was such a wonderful read!! Just love Pheobe and her unicorn and their stories, they are always so fun! My daughter loves this series.
The adventures of Phoebe and Marigold always bring a smile to my face and I adore sharing this series with my seven-year-old! There is alway relatable moments that have humor which appeals to both of us. This volume focuses on the need for acceptance and once again shows readers the value of real friendship!
Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Unicorn Famous is scheduled for release on April 6, 2021.
Yes, this series is great for kids. But it's great for other people too. Everyone in our house -- that's two teens and two middle-aged adults -- loves it. This book is as good as all the others; I laughed out loud again and again while reading it. In a typical four-panel spread, three panels advance the plot, talk about the interpersonal problems of grade school life, or give background info on unicorn society. And then that fourth panel just kills me -- making me snort or burst into laughter more often than not, and nearly always carrying a clever surprise. This volume will be joining all the others on our bookshelf -- though to be honest it will be found in the kids' rooms an awful lot of the time. Or on the floor. Or the sofa. Or in the bathroom. Because it's going to be read and enjoyed everywhere in the house.
This is another adorable addition to the Phoebe and her Unicorn series. This series does well at my library and this will be a definite must buy for my patrons.
Dana Simpson did it again. I just love this series, The vocabulary is challenging and it has the normal Phoebe and Unicorn humor. I love all the characters and the goblins as well.. This is my favorite graphic novel series and I just never tire of their antics.
I had to get this one for myself so I could see and read for myself one of the books in the series I keep sending to out of state granddaughter at her request. Now I know and can recommend it to all and sundry! And now I want my very own Unicorn for my friend!
A must read for elementary/middle school graphic novel enthusiasts!
I requested and received a free temporary ebook from Andrews McMeel Publishing via NetGalley. Thank you!

I have been following the Phoebe and Her Unicorn page on Facebook for years (back when it was called Heavenly Nostrils)! I loved the page and the comics! I'm so excited that I got to read this book!
This was so cute and a fun read! I loved the humor. I actually laughed out loud several times!
I'm so grateful to Dana Simpson, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.
My 9 year old daughter read this one because of her love for this series. The review will be in her words.
I absolutely love this graphic novel series and was so excited when my mom received this one. This 13th installment was just as good as all the others. There wasn't anything different in this one from the others in the series, as it followed the same format but I was never left bored. I love Phoebe and Marigold's adventures and their friendship is something that I treasure. This graphic novel series is one that I would recommend to any middle grade reader who loves video games, adventures, unicorns and friendship!
Another silly and entertaining installment in the Phoebe and her Unicorn series. These Calvin & Hobbes-esque mini-adventure graphic novels do super well in our library. I know my students can't wait to get their hands on this one!
Absolutely lovely addition to the series, with occasional dips into more 'serious' subject matters, but by and large the same Phoebe and Marigold we know and love.
I thank the universe that I live in a world where the Phoebe and her Unicorn series exists. Whenever life is too rough I escape into the world of Marigold Heavenly Nostrils and all is right for a while. This book was no exception.
Mini Review: This was so fun! Anytime I read a Phoebe and Her Unicorn book, I know it will make me happy, and I'll laugh quite a bit! As always, the art is fun, the jokes make you laugh, and it's just an really enjoyable Graphic Novel. Overall, I highly recommend this series of books!
I received an e-ARC from the publisher.
Another great book in an amazing series. My daughter loved catching up with Phoebe and Marigold and is anxiously awaiting the next book.
