Description
This small book by Peter Morris is packed with primarily translated Dutch verse – humorous, romantic and based on historical events – from the period 1200 to 1650. These include the most well-known examples, notably the 14th-century Song of Halowyn. The originals were written in a straightforward and unembellished style, making accurate yet metered translations possible. There follows a lesser number of Norwegian verses – mostly from the nineteenth century – and some 'youthful ditties' by the author.
