Especially when it's from the critically acclaimed author of The Boy Next Door... Tense and twisty, this tale explores obsession and mental health' Woman's Own

A well deserved 5-star from me. I was hooked right from the first page. A claustrophobic menacing thriller with plenty of twists and turns. Excellent.

EXCERPT: I can't believe I didn't realise it before, that what I really wanted all along was to write to you. So that's what I'm going to do. A memoir, perhaps. No. A confession.

Kristina, I'm waiting for you. I pray that you'll come. I'm alone and I'm afraid for the future and I want to use this time to put everything I want to say to you into some kind of coherent account. I want to tell you everything myself, I have it all planned out in my head - you'll come here and you'll sit across from me and we'll light the fire and I will start from the beginning and I won't stop talking until there is absolutely nothing unsaid between us. If you can't or won't come or if something outside of my control happens to me, you'll find what you need here. Either way, I need you to know the truth.

ABOUT 'CABIN FEVER': You are her therapist.
Kristina is a successful therapist in central Oslo. She spends her days helping clients navigate their lives with a cool professionalism that has got her to the top.

She is your client.
But when her client Leah, a successful novelist, arrives at her office clearly distressed, begging Kristina to come to her remote cabin in the woods, she feels the balance begin to slip.

But out here in the woods.
When Leah fails to turn up to her next two sessions, Kristina reluctantly heads out into the wilderness to find her.

Nothing is as it seems.
Alone and isolated, Kristina finds Leah's unfinished manuscript, and as she reads she realises the main character is terrifyingly familiar...

MY THOUGHTS: I read Cabin Fever by Alex Dahl in one sitting, unable to put it down and now, four hours later, my heart is still pounding, my breathing ragged.

The main characters are all onions, multilayered, and eye-wateringly devious. I was shaking my head in delighted disbelief as the truth was slowly revealed, and I mean slowly, one nugget, one gem at a time until the final crescendo.

Alex Dahl has once again written an unsettling, unpredictable, extremely clever and very dark novel full of tension and suspense.

Alex Dahl has long become my go-to Scandi noir thriller writer, and this book further cemented my appreciation of their talent. The story of a therapist plunged into the emotional darkness of her client’s obsession is a great one!

An intense and claustrophobic story about trauma and obsession. There are signs from the start that the relationship between Kristina, a therapist, and her client Leah, a successful publisher author are a bit “off”. When Leah disappears and asks Kristina to come to her cabin in the forest, things start taking an even darker turn. Leah’s disappearance seems to trouble nobody other than Kristina, but her investigation into Leah’s life reveals darker secrets about Kristina’s past, suppressed memories about a tragic event that has traumatised her and scandalous revelations that someone is prepared to kill in order to hide. There is something of a slow build up but the climax of the story in the snow stranded cabin were as intense as anything I have ever read. Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy.

Thank you for giving me the chance to read and review this title.

I'm not always a fan of Scandi Noir but having read the intriguing premise, I decided to give it a go.

I didn't find the story too dark, or at least no more than it needed to be! The plot was absorbing and full of mystifying twists that I certainly didn't foresee ahead of time.

What more can I say other than this book contained all the necessary ingredients for a great psychological thriller. I loved it!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading cabin fever. It is somewhat of a slow burner, but I did find it enjoyable and intriguing throughout. It has a few twists and turns and managed to keep me guessing until the end.

There are a few characters with a lot of trauma in their pasts, and snippets are revealed throughout the book. It keeps you guessing, trying to work out who is lying and where the truths lie.

The ending was dramatic and ended fairly abruptly but in a very satisfying way, with justice prevailing in the end. I would thoroughly recommend giving it a read!

This book was such a great read, it’s pacy and definitely had me raving through the pages. You think you’ve worked out the twists only to realise you didn’t have a clue.

Absolutely fantastic book that kept me racing through the pages and loving the unexpected twists along the way.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.

This was not my usual pick up and read, but there was something about the description that caught my eye and sold itself to me. Its started off quite differently than how I had imagined it may, but soon the book began to take a serious steep set of turns, that leaves you wondering where the story will be taking you next.

For fans of dark, twisty, suspenseful books with a hint of Nordic noir about them, then this is a book for you!

Kristna is a respected therapist in Oslo and is happily married to a politician. However, her seemingly perfect life seems to crumble when her client Leah who is a successful novelist starts to act strangely and then disappears.

I was absolutely gripped by the novel and following Kristna trying to help Leah and work out where she is once she goes missing and what happened was riveting. The deeper into the novel I got the more the twists and reveals came to light I was shocked; when Kristina's past come to light I couldn't put the book down until I knew what had happened. A tense and gripping Scandi Noir novel that I would recommend to anyone.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review

A great read! This is your typical Scandinavian Noir thriller, and although I'm not a fan of the genre (because it's too gory), this book had me hooked. I loved the forest setting, the therapy thread, and the twisted plot.

I received an advance reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is one of the better Scandi thrillers I had read in a long time. You grow so fond of the characters, even the “bad guy”.- these ladies really stay with you. One of the more unique subplots. Beyond five star
