A secret of steel sleeps in Taumeiryale, the legends tell, and he wants to uncover it. When Kitt comes to the city by the river Meira, he finds that he is the only blacksmith there.

Maiat, the Higher Order of things rules in the person of the Sunlord, a ten-year-old boy. Tempted by the dark secrets, the boy befriends Kitt and brings them both into open conflict with the priests of the Temple of Eternal Light. Soon, the great, winged serpents slither through the streets to devour who they find, and not even the golden palace is safe.

Two great secrets of steel surface, a fallen star and iron from distant shores. Magic comes within Kitt’s reach as it never has before.
