Great Book! I love watching Anime and I always wanted to learn how to create all the fun unique faces and different styles. This book broke down in detail exactly how to create all the faces. It was a good read.

Pretty cool book showing the fundamentals of the anime/manga art practices. I remember when I was young, anime style was still very popular! A friend was quite good at drawing them and I always tried but never could get it right. This book shows the fundamentals, but it can also serve as a training tool for those interested in drawing as a hobby broadly. Learning skills like these can be translated across other types of art, so that’s pretty cool. Overall, I believe this is a good book for a beginner artist or anime/manga fan just wanting to draw for fun!

*DISCLAIMER* I received a free copy of this book for review purposes. I only accept books I think I’d like because life is too short to waste on bad books. That said if I don’t like a book, I’ll say so, free or not. With that out of the way, onto the review:

This isn’y my favorite book and drawing in an anime/manga style (that would bd Chibi Art Class by Yoai), but this one is really solid. And unlike my fave it shows both a standard anime/manga style of each character as well as what that character could look like in chibi style..

It’s more of an overview than a detailed step by step as each face only has about 4 pictures. If I had the printed copy, that would be too many details for me in each step, but in the digital version where I can zoom in, I didn’t mind that.

Great tips for painting your drawings, but I’d say the focus is more on the drawing aspects.

My 9 year old daughter loved this advance reader copy. She was engrosed with the information and tips given and learnt many basic terms for drawing in this style. Starting with an essentials chapter, this book eased her into this drawing style and gave her the confidence to explore the 25 Anime and Manga characters in the book. She felt very successful due to the easy to follow steps and really enjoyed reading / drawing / reviewing cycle. It helped that the copy was a digital copy and she was therefore able to zoom in and see the fine detail in the sketches. She was engrossed in this book and has returned to it many times for more inspiration.

Thank you NetGalley or this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I requested this title to preview it to see if I should put it in my YA library collection. It seems very informative and straight forward. I think the teens will enjoy using this title as a way to learn to draw manga/anime style characters.

4 stars!

I have recently started watching anime, and so when I saw this book I immediately wanted to check it out. I love drawing, and it was pretty helpful for a beginner like me. Previously I used to face a little difficulty drawing the faces and especially the eyes, but now with with the help of this book this has become easier. I would hundred percent recommend it if you love anime and want to draw the characters. This was easy and fun.
