This is a great book for a kiddo who's into soccer. It discusses a few basics at the beginning but then delves into the history of the game, ball design, names for the game all over the world, and the superstars on each continent. There's even a section about variations on the game based on location (beach volleyball), player physical abilities, or just mixing it up for fun. The book closes out with some ideas for soccer based games.
The graphics are bright, fun and engaging. I like that they did only talk about men's soccer, but included women as well, particularly since the US women's team is so awesome!
The book even *tried* to explain offsides. I'm sure most people get it, this soccer mom is just permanently confused about it.
I did receive an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley for review.

My sport obsessed child adored this book and could not put it down! As one would imagine, it is bursting with football related history, facts and information. Children (or adults) with little or no knowledge of the sport to those who play the game regularyly will enjoy this book. The illustrations, photgraphs, colours, fonts and layouts are captivating and it bursting with fascinating details. My little one espcially liked learning about the adaptations that the game has had (motorball and futsal for example) and enjoyed transferring the game ideas to the playground with his friends. We had many discussions about why the book is called Soccer Atlas instead of Football Atlas (we are based in the UK) and the term soccer is used throughout the book (there is a section acknowleding the various ways football is referred to, around the world).
This book would be perfect as a special present (for a birthday for example) or when there is a football tournament coming up, but equally could be given at any point in the year.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
