The games are over and the stakes are higher in this action-packed conclusion of Kingdom of Curses and Shadows, a Minecraft-inspired YA romantic fantasy series for readers who love enemies-to-lovers dynamics, witty banter, adventure, and girls kicking ass.
When darkness takes over the kingdom, there’s only one solution: fight it. Even against sinister magic, a shadow realm, and impossible odds.
Desperate to save the one she loves and to break the curses plaguing her land, Zora joins unlikely allies on a journey to find lost secrets about ancient magic. But when the dangers become much more difficult and the enemies much more powerful than she ever expected, she’ll have to find extra strength, resilience, and courage.
And when everything seems lost, she’ll have to latch onto her hope. Hope and fury.

The third book in the Kingdom of Curses and Shadows, The Dawn and the Prince is a wild, adventurous ride filled with danger, tons of action, and many moving parts. The story picks up where The Curse and the Prince left off. Griffin is separated from Zora, and he finds himself in the most dangerous position yet. Zora, with the help of some unlikely allies, searches for a way to help Griffin and the kingdom, and her quest proves just as life-threatening as Griffin’s.
The story is told from multiple perspectives, which works well in this story. A lot is going on, and reading things from different points of view offers a clarity that you probably wouldn’t get with only one perspective. Since different characters’ paths are going in different directions, the varied points of view give a well-rounded view of what’s happening with each of them at the same time, and their experiences are all dangerous and intriguing!
The major characters in the story continue to grow and change. Zora, Griffin, Riadne, and Larzen have all been through so much, and they continue to face insurmountable obstacles. I like how they’ve all become more confident in themselves and each other. They all show such strength throughout the story and prove that there are many different ways to show one’s strength and heroism. Each character is well-developed and layered, and I enjoyed their individual and collective stories.
In the last book, the focus was on trust, and it continues to be a focus in this book. Zora has tentative allies, whom she doesn’t fully trust, and her allies don’t trust each other. Griffin is on his own with no one to trust. This all makes for some tense situations. However, another focus of the story is on hope – the hope of reuniting, the hope of a better future, the hope of finding keys to the past, the hope of survival, and the hope of a better future. Each character goes through extreme internal and external conflicts, and they cling to hope to see them through. I like that, even in the darkest moments, the main characters never give up on themselves or each other. However, they don’t rely solely on hope. These characters take action!
There is no shortage of excitement and suspense in this story! It is so intense, and there are moments when I wasn’t sure who would make it out alive. Zora, Griffin, Riadne, and Larzen face shadow creatures, villainous enemies, curses, and other deadly threats, and there is never a dull moment!
Another strength of the story is the immersive setting. The world-building in this series is fantastic and takes the reader on an amazing journey. Each place in the characters’ journey is unique to the others and is described in a way that is easy to visualize. Leitao created a vivid and original world that I found fascinating. I couldn’t wait to see what happened in each new place the characters went to and was excited when they returned to some of the places they traveled to in past books.
As this is the third book in the series, I would recommend reading the first two. It is not a standalone. It is a great series for readers who like YA fantasy with tons of action, well-developed characters, and two love stories! I’m so thankful to NetGalley and Day Leitao for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
This is the third book in the series and is a wonderful conclusion to the characters' journey.
.
From the first book where we mainly followed the story of Zora, this brave girl from the Dark Valley, who tries to prove to herself and others everything she can achieve with strength and hope, to the cursed prince who tries to protect her and one of the few survivors of a magical town that tries to take revenge. The story begins to open up and show other voices that broaden the image of the story and intertwine to reach a good ending
.
It was a very fun trip, a true adventure where the characters found the trust in themselves and in each other. I really enjoyed this story a lot throughout the three books and I don't think it's wrong to get sad about having little Zora and Griffin at the end, I'm going to miss those two and the good vibes they bring
.
It is a book full of princes improvising around brave women determined to make their wishes a destiny of their own. Dark creatures, curses, winged witches and warriors are the ingredients of this story
.
Thanks to Day Leitao and sparkly wave for give me this amazing book in exchange for honest opinion
It was a really good ending to Zora and Griffin's story. It continues from book 2 and follows the journey of Zora, Larzen, and Riadne. I loved how the three had to work together and learn to trust each other with their differences. Griffin is now in an unusual place, where he has to find himself and go through challenges to get back to Zora.
I loved how the relationship between Raidne and Larzen grew while facing challenges. And that they also go their happy ending! Their little arguments were so cute and funny. It went so well with the rest of the story. Riadne's character development was really good, while she tried to find herself and what made her happy. In conclusion, the story was really good and I loved how each of the characters got their ending!
This is the third book in this series and is just as amazing as the previous two. Day Leitao has done it again with another fantastic story. In this one we follow Zora and the gang as they try to prevent the Shadow King from merging with their world and taking over. For atrocity of the book Zora and Griffin are separated, so we get to see just how strong Zora is on her own. Riadne and Larzen have much bigger parts and become essential to helping stop the Shadow King. I loved getting to see more of them in this story, as well as getting another glimpse at Mauro.. This was the perfect conclusion to the series.
I love Day Leitao’s writing, especially the Portals to Whyland series. The Cup and the Prince series was excellent too, but this book really stood out among the other works in the series. Day doesn’t disappoint!
Thanks NetGalley for my digital copy.
Finally, the moment that I have been waiting for has arrived, the conclusion of the Kingdom of Curses and Shadows trilogy. A huge thank you to Favorite Pages and Day Leitao for allowing me to be a part of this journey. I have become deeply fond of Day's writing, her characters, and the world she has managed to build. This trilogy has without hesitation become one of my favorites and I think it is an excellent introduction to the fantasy genre for teenage readers.
The Dawn and The Prince has been an excellent conclusion to the trilogy and has resolved all my doubts about the origin of the Dark Valley and the curse of our favorite prince. I started out hating Riadne and Larzen, but in this third book my heart was rooting for them. Really reading Larzen's concern and love for her siblings took me by surprise, I loved him. This installment begins right where The Curse and The Prince ends and I can't help but comment on the anxiety I suffer to think for a moment that we would lose Griffin forever, but he and Zora recieved the ending they deserved. And although I am a sadist who loves bitter endings, I wished with all my heart that this one had a happy ending. Day did not fail me.
The plot was fast, as in the two previous books, in some parts one can feel confused -especially it happened to me with Griffin's parts- but finally everything is resolved. Zora is, as always, my favorite character and I can't help but love her bravery, loyalty and the love that she professes towards her valley and her people. I hope to read new work from the author soon. Do not hesitate to give it a try!
