Description
He’s done fighting his attraction to the sexy vampire…
To say former firefighter Colin Zhang is struggling to accept his new life would be a vast understatement. He’s bound to a vampire he didn’t choose, living in a house filled with creatures better left to the imagination—there’s a lot to resent. As much as he tries, he doesn’t resent Evan—far from it. But he needs to know that what he feels is real and that requires breaking their bond. No matter the cost.
Vampire private investigator Evan Fournier is more than willing to explore his connection with Colin, but the crisis at hand keeps getting in the way. Their bond makes it dangerous for them to be apart, so he’s forced to put the other man at risk while he investigates the latest in a series of murders. If he doesn’t find the killer soon, the paranormal community will seek retribution on all humans, not just the guilty ones.
As the tensions escalate, Evan and Colin find solace in each other and their growing attraction. But if their bond is broken, attraction—even love—might not be enough to keep them safe.

Jenn Burke never disappoints. House On Fire is another poignant installment in Evan and Colin's story you won't want to miss. Full of laughs, mystery, and angst—it's the kind of book you can't put down until it's over.
So so good!!
I read the entire Not Dead Yet series so I was fully prepared and had background knowledge of all the characters and events that occurred for this spin-off series, and I'm SO glad I did!! It just made this book 100x better than it would have if I went in blind. This series is perfect for spooky season but make it romance and MM, and I am here for it!! I was hoping I'd find a spooky romance novel for October and to stumble on these books, it was fate! I'm so beyond excited for the third book of this series to come out. So many questions I need answered!! I can't wait till 2022!!
I love this series, and I whole-heartedly recommend it! It's perfect for people who are wanting to start paranormal romances, I'm also a newbie in this genre, but I want to read more after this!
Highly recommend it!
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for the earc in return for an honest review.
Promises
Wow, so much to unpack with this heartfelt and moving book. First, my brain and heart are still recovering from the emotional rollercoaster it took me on. Second, I need the next book soon as that ending left me clamoring. Third, if you love angst, this book is your newest best friend. “His fiery eyes held mine. ‘Don’t doubt me. I’m here, with you.’” Gah, my heart, it’s twinging again. Evan and Colin are both extraordinarily strong people dealing with overwhelmingly difficult and strenuous moments. I don’t envy either of them but did love seeing them turn to each other, even as they’re still navigating their way through the unexpected bond. I still don’t know how to feel at the end of this as it really threw me for a loop but I do know I want more. Amazing friendships, suspenseful action and mystery, intense angst—I know I already said it but really it’s true, it’s a journey you don’t want to miss and happily we’re not done yet. I promise.
A fantastic spin-off for the Not Dead Yet series. The characters were wonderfully well-written, as always, and the storyline grabbed me from page one. It was so easy to become wrapped up in the story and I had no problem reading it all in one go, it was engaging from beginning to end.
