"Debra said ""I seldom have time to indulge in my favorite pastime -- reading, so when I do finally get a bit of time to pick up a read, I want it to be good. ""Mildred In Disguise: With Diamonds"" did not disappoint. In fact, I couldn't put it down.""
A kindle reader from UK said, ""After reading this I shall definitely be learning more about Mildred, the feisty seventy-one year-old undercover security officer. What a hoot! Left in a diabolical financial situation due to her husband's gambling debts, our witty heroine finds a way to solve her problems and have fun along the way. I loved Mildred and this book, and look forward to reading the rest in the series.""

Mildred finds herself widowed after her husband passes away unexpectedly, taking his secrets to the grave and leaving her with large debts and more questions than answers.
Mildred, a 70 something former meter maid, finding herself at a loss as to how she is going to make ends meet, comes out of retirement, taking a job as undercover security at the very casino that was her husband's downfall.
Solving minor crimes and handling disturbances becomes Mildred's everyday routine as she assumes several different undercover disguises, changing personas as one would change underwear, Mildred searches for answers regarding some of her husband's secrets.
Mildred, over 70, yes, washed up and down? No way. She is a feisty plucky g-ma, and she can hold her own. I loved Mildred's character and her alter-personalities. She is one entertaining senior citizen. This is a quick, easy read, with enough intrigue thrown in to keep you guessing and laughing out loud till the end. I look forward to more of Mildred's capers, as they are sure to bring a smile and a laugh. Highly recommend for a quick weekend fun read.
Thank you to the publishers at Books Go Social and to Net Galley for the free ARC, I am leaving my honest review in return.
I just loved this book. Mildred in Disguise is a book I thoroughly enjoyed reading and I can't wait to read more from this author.
The book is about Mildred Petrie who thought she was getting a comfortable retirement. Well, obviously that did not happen instead her husband died and his secrets changed everything.
It kept me guessing until the very end!
A quiet retirement? Not so for Mildred whose husband dies unexpectedly. Mildred is an interesting, lovable quirky grandmother who is not ready for a quiet life. Love her! The story flows nicely. It's well written with lots of red herrings! I so want lots of Mildred time! Thanks #netgalley and #BooksGoSocial for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
Mildred In Disguise With Diamonds (Mildred Unchained Book 1) by Toni Kief. BooksGoSocial, 2017.
This delightful, entertaining, and very easy to read book describes life after retirement for recently widowed, feisty Mildred, unexpectedly short of money, back in the workforce, undercover in casino security.
Aside from some eyebrow-raising Elvis details, the story moved along quickly for me. I enjoyed it. Three and a half stars rounded up to four.
Disclosure: I received a review copy of Mildred In Disguise for free via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. #MildredInDisguise #NetGalley
I want to be Mildred. It's simple really , as a person of her age bracket I envy her life - the adventure, the stimulation, the interactions with many people. But not the reason for having to work at all. Thankfully, my husband and I share all financial information and jointly own our property. And there's no casino in walking distance of where I live!
All that aside, I really enjoyed Mildred's adventures and her world but thought that the storyline got a bit strangled and too wordy around halfway through. Several chapters could have been chopped out to give the story a better pace. (Drops the star rating for me, editor be a little more ruthless)
I Look forward to more by this author.
