Sometimes you've got to leave your heart on the field

Gretchen Harper has always been practical. Dependable, solid, predictable. She’s never taken risks, and she’s especially never bought coffee for gorgeous professional athletes in airports. That is, until she meets her favorite baseball player on the worst day of his career.

Being sent to the minor league is just the first of Joshua Malvern’s many worries—he’s got an injury that won’t heal and his entire career and future are on the line. When a beautiful woman offers him coffee, that simple kindness is exactly what he needs to lift him out of his funk. He asks her to join him in first class, not expecting to end up joining her in bed.

What starts as a one night stand ends up holding the promise for so much more. And while stepping out of her comfort zone has never been Gretchen’s style, for a chance at true love she’ll have to decide whether she’ll swing for the fences, even if it means striking out.

Any book that involves a hot baseball player and a fling, you know is going to deliver! Out of His League by Caroline Richardson was so good I couldn't put it down. This is definitely a one sitting read! This book makes you laugh, warms your heart, and shed a few tears! Hands down this was an out of the park home run!

Love it its a definitely not a book you can put down I read itbin one day! I love that the characters in the book kinda love at first sight and it's so sweet and and special

Out of His League is a romantic and flirty sports romance that I adored! Caroline Richardson writes a cute page-turner that I just couldn't get enough of.

Gretchen is a sommelier who is on her way to Vegas. When she sees one of her favorite professional MLB players, she decides to take a risk. She knows that isn't having a great day because he is being sent to the minor leagues so instead of asking for an autograph she buys him a cup of coffee. It's bold and Josh approves.

Josh is a professional baseball player who is dealing with an injury and being sent to the minors. He is normally in a mood when it comes to fans because he doesn't like all of the attention, but when Gretchen buys him a cup of coffee he can't help but feel the attraction. She is kind, sweet, and sexy. They are boarding the same flight and he buys her a first-class ticket sitting next to him. They bond so quickly on the flight and when they land neither want to say goodbye. They decide to spend time together in Vegas and one thing leads to another. Neither Josh nor Gretchen are the one-night-stand type of people and yet they are anticipating spending the night together. One night will be enough right?

I give Out of His League 5 stars. I love sports romance and as I am watching the World Series it just reminds me of my love for baseball romances. And it made me love this book even more. The chemistry between Josh and Gretchen is fantastic. This is a bit of a quick love but it feels so right. I loved the whole journey they took personally, professionally, and together. If you enjoy reading sports romance, then you NEED to read this as soon as you can!

I really loved this book, and hoping the parallel characters get a spin off sequel. I thought the descriptions and story line were really great

I really enjoyed this book. It was well paced and the characters were fully formed. I would enjoy reading other work by this author in the future.

I really enjoyed Gretchen! I love that she treated her favorite baseball player (Josh) as an actual human. She saw his bad day, and wanted to make it better.
This was a very fun contemporary romance, that I look forward to rereading in the future!

i really enjoyed this book! it was so cute and sweet, and refreshing! None of the usual tropes here - the couple was communicative and good for each other. I was entralled in it from start to finish, and definitely believed the story.

Any book that combines my big love for both wine and baseball has me at hello. This one grabbed me from the first few paragraphs and did not disappoint.

Gretchen, a late twenty-something sommelier happens to spot her Major League Baseball crush, Josh, in an airport bar while waiting for her flight to a wine convention in Vegas. She has a bit of time, and noticing that he looks rather down, throws caution to the wind and buys him a cup of coffee. That uncharacteristically bold gesture on her part turns into a few days of fun, or perhaps even more.

Josh is headed to Vegas, because his Big League team is sending him down to the minors at what could be the end of his major league baseball career. He's not very optimistic about his future in baseball, and unlike so many of his colleagues, he's really not the hook up kind, so when Gretchen walks into his life, he's really not looking to hit any home runs, neither personally nor professionally.

I really enjoyed this book because neither Gretchen nor Josh are stereotypical. They have interesting careers, and despite the glamorous worlds that they run in, they are both just good, likeable people with nice friends.

This book had some twists and turns that kept my pages turning and my wine glass filled a I read this book in a day. It' a great beach or vacation read and if you like sports related romance, it's a lot of fun.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book in exchange for my never-held-back opinion!

I really enjoyed this. I do think that feelings happened a little quickly, but I don’t fully mind since it is a romance. I think romances with athletes are some of my favorites and I want to read more. This book was cute and made me laugh and smile and the cover is super cute. I can’t wait to see what else this author writes.

This book is exactly what it says on the tin, in many positive and not-so-positive ways. It reads as fun, lightly developed fanfic, because that is exactly what it is. All the favorite romance tropes are there: insta-lust, one night changes it all, focused hero meets the right woman, wallflower steps out...this hits many of the classics. The “romance” is really more sexual attraction, and that is fine. Books can be pure escapism, it isn't against the rules! Honestly, this book is exactly what would expect to happen when you take a solid, long-form fanfic and smoosh it into book form. I am 100% here for it. Fanfic has tons of talented writers and if this starts a trend of people getting paid for that work, sounds great. This is a great read as long as you know what it is meant to be: a fun, sexy story with a cheery HEA.

Gretchen and Josh….can I say wow! Typically I’m more of a slow burn type of romance reader, but the chemistry that was shown between Gretchen and Josh was strong from the beginning, I understand why they moved as fast as it did. I think they’re definitely for one another. Personally I think the conflict was a bit unnecessary considering the short time they knew each other before hand. The supporting characters between Starla, the coach, Neptune, were a joy to read. I also loved that this touched into what many athletes don’t talk about, which is when retirement is among them. The pressure of being a professional athlete is unimaginable, but this author gave some nice insight and wrapped it up with a HEA.

thank you so much for the ARC of this book and getting a chance to give my input on it.

What can I say about this book? It is a.m. romance novel that has such a great backbone! I thoroughly enjoyed being wrapped up in the storyline. Also, I didn’t hate any of the characters in any point in the book so that’s saying a lot lol I would definitely love to see this one translated in into the big screen because the characters are so dear to me now. I love everyone from Gretchen and Josh to Neptune and Travis! I think if you are looking for a good romance novel you will enjoy it. I definitely give this one 4 1/2 stars which for me is a big thing!

I LOVED THIS BOOK! It was such a cute and easy read but also deep enough to make you feel invested in the characters and the relationships. I have never been super into baseball but I loved reading about the ins-and-outs of how the clubs work. I also loved the sommelier aspect and learning more about their career as well! I devoured this book in one day. This was my first read by this author but will definitely not be my last.

This book is HOTTTTTT! I enjoyed it but will admit that it did drag on a bit at the end. This was the perfect read since baseball season just ended and I'm already missing it so much. I recommend it though even if you are not a sports fan. It has plenty of romance and spice. It's a nice, quick read and I enjoyed it very much.

A hot baseball player having fling in Vegas with a beautiful young lady? Yes, please; sign me up,. This was a super fun, hot romance. Definitely a quick read and one that readers will enjoy (especially if you have a couple if free hours, because you're going to want to read this all in one sitting)..

When you meet your dream guy buy them coffee. If I had half the guts and luck the main characters did I be on my way to an airport coffee shop. I absolutely loved the best friend and hopes she gets a novel of her own as well. You don’t have to be a huge sports fan to understand this book but if you are it stays true to the sport. Super grateful to have read this book and definitely count this as a pick me up happy romance book. Has a different POV writing style at time of review which is refreshing to see events via both characters.

At this point any book that faces a cover that looks like this is an automatic read for me. To begin off with sports romances are always a top. They never fail to amaze me. And this one my friends made me laugh, and cry, and i don’t know it was just so heartwarming that I would willingly be reading this again! It was such a fun read and an adorable romance!

This is definitely an insta-love romance, which honestly I didn't think I was going to like at first. The smut is front loaded at the beginning which made it feel like their relationship didn’t have a lot of substance. Which, to be honest I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to.
I really enjoyed this. I do think that feelings happened a little quickly, but I don’t fully mind since it is a romance. This was a SUPER cute and quick, easy read, which I ended up reading in one sitting!

I would say it was almost an insta love romance, however in this setting there is nothing wrong with that! Gretchen and Joshua have chemistry from the start, and also - who doesn't love a sport based romance?

You will both laugh and tear up with this, but you will leave feeling like your heart is full!

I can't wait to see what else Caroline Richardson has up her sleeve, as I love her writing style!

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

"Gretchen Harper didn't expect to meet her favourite baseball player, Joshua Malvern, on her way to Vegas for a wine event, especially seeing as he's not headed there by choice. Having been sent down from the major leagues, Joshua is worried about the future of his career, but as they get to know each other over the course of one weekend, there's no denying the fire between them burns hot. But they're from completely different worlds and their affair isn't meant to last. With his career up in the air and her job her primary focus, can they find a way to round the bases towards love?”

Thank you to Wattpad Books and NetGalley for the eARC!

The plot of this novel is my dream scenario (falling in love with your favorite baseball player after a hot and heavy weekend in Vegas, okay??), and I was actually pleasantly surprised by the story! We’re not winning any literary awards with this one, but I thought it was enjoyable for what it was - a quick, steamy read with a premise that I loved. The relationship between our two MCs actually had more depth than I was originally anticipating which was a pleasant surprise. If you heart insta-love, steam-on-the-verge-of-smut and celebrity/athlete storylines, give this one a try! If you're not into sports/baseball, this might be one that you skip.

I was given the opportunity to arc read this book. I really enjoyed reading this book. I did not want to put it down. I loved the main characters. It had steamy parts throughout the book. I felt like it was love at first sight at the airport after Gretchen gave Josh a cup of coffee. They were both Conveniently going to Vegas. Gretchen was going to a wine convention and Josh was sent down from the major leagues.

Very cute rom-com. I started this while sitting in the airport when my plane was delayed. I loved the meet-cute at the airport and the will-they, wont-they of the story. It was a light, fast read with plenty of cute moments. Thank you NetGalley and Wattpad for the free e-galley in exchange for an honest review.

I’m getting on a plane to Vegas right freaking now. The second I opened this book I could not stop until I was finished. It has everything. Baseball butts, best friends, wine, heartbreak, and SPICE. Joshua and Gretchen have undeniable chemistry which makes you want to buy a flight to vegas and have a whirlwind romance that starts with coffee. It is a must-read, definitely something I will be recommending to everyone!

As meet-cutes go, Gretchen Harper wins the prize while waiting for her flight to a professional conference. Offering her baseball crush a cup of coffee leads to opportunity and opportunity leads to love in this sweet romantic story. Out of His League by Caroline Richardson is an excellent quick read and worth the time.

What is better than a sweet, enjoyable romance? Combining that story with two enjoyable subjects: wine and baseball! Joshua, a professional baseball player, is a bit down on his luck in his game when, perhaps, he has the most lucky encounter of his life…a chance meeting with Gretchen, a sommelier, who happens to be about to board the same plane to Vegas. He just so happens to be her favorite baseball player, though this is not divulged upon first meeting. The two have almost instant chemistry and this story follows them initially through a few days in Vegas, but later through several months as their lives take typical twists and turns. I enjoyed the writing style, the delicious descriptive scenes, and the way the characters fell in love. I do recommend this as it is fun and enjoyable, offering a welcome escape from anything that has you down! Fair warning…it gets a little spicy in scenes…and there is some language. Nothing over the top, but rather the perfect accompaniment to their romance!

Gretchen usually plays it safe until the time she runs into her favorite baseball player, Josh, in the airport. He looks miserable so she decides to buy him a coffee. The chemistry between them is undeniable from the moment they start chatting. What turns into a one night stand just might become something even more.

This is a steamy one! I got completely sucked into Gretchen and Josh’s mess of a romance that I stayed up way too late reading. Thank you Netgalley and Wattpad Books for the egalley in exchange for my honest review.

Quick read, fun and sexy. Could have been shorter if they cut the needless drama that was too drawn out. Perfect holiday read!

Cute and fun story! Gretchen was a very relatable character, and the chemistry between them was very sweet.

I really enjoyed this romance. It was a cute meet, had some tension between the lovers as well the difficulty the characters had to overcome individually. I appreciated that this story showed time passing and it wasn't just a week- or month-long love at first sight and they are married a few months later.

Last book of 2021. Cute and spicy romance. Enjoyable even though some of the baseball terms were incorrect.

A good, very fast read. Loved josh, Gretchen cried a lot but also loved her. Thought it was a good representation of how to make a relationship work.

Now hoping there’s a sequel for Sharla!

I had read this book before when it was on Wattpad and i loved it then and i love it even more now! The chemistry between Gretchen and Joshua is amazing, with the dialogue a solid 10/10. I also loved the baseball aspect, i'm not an avid sport fan but i like the mix of romance and sport in this context! Definitely looking to read more books by Caroline Richardson!!

Do you need a romance with lot of sex and longing? This is for you. Starts with the hot weekend fling, ends with an HEA. You can probably guess where this goes, but it's still fairly satisfying if you're looking for that style of romance. Who wouldn't want Gretchen to wind up back with her hot baseball player?

I saw this cover and read the blurb and totally wanted to check this book out. It starts off cute with Joshua and Gretchen meeting at an airport. Gretchen is your average take no risk play by the rules women. She decides to do something out of character and approach her favorite baseball player with a cup of coffee. It is insta love with undeniable connection. I think its started off well but I feel like some parts where not realistic. It's a whirlwind story where a famous man sweeps the MC off her feet. I also feel the story was missing some key aspects in plot. I liked it a lot and feel if your in the mood for some spice and insta love than this would be a great book to read. Overall its a fun sports romance read.
Thank you to Netgalley and Wattpad books for allowing me to view the arc for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this story so much! I loved that it took no time to get to Josh and Gretchens story. I felt they had great chemistry and loved that against the odds they came back together each and every time. The sex was 🔥 too! I gave this one an easy 5 stars!

A cute story of taking a chance and falling in love. I found my self rooting for them and wanting to know more about their rollercoaster love story.

Brave wine sommelier and baseball fan Gretchen makes a bold move when she spots her favorite player en route to Vegas, and buys him a cup of coffee, fully knowing he's just been "sent down" post-slump. They connect and then, their one-night stand turns into a real but challenging relationship, with job insecurities on top of the long-distance romance. Set in Canada and the US, with plenty of sportsball and inside baseball to captivate readers who swoon over passionate pro-athletes, and culinary and wine details that are enticing to foodies. A solid read - Good Read reviewers note Out of His League was published on Wattpad, and kudos to Richardson for a solid novel with a broad appeal.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK. I finished the entire thing in one night and I regret nothing. Gretchen and Josh are perfect and I loved their story. Thank you to Netgalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a lovely, feel good sports romance with the right amount of heat and an interesting set of side characters. The pacing is good, it’s tightly edited, and all of the settings and characters feel realistic—from the start struck woman who buys a cup of coffee for her baseball hero crush to his grumpy but looking-out-for-his-client’s-best-interests agent.

I am not typically a fan of insta love but this book made it work. There was just enough sports to be interesting, not too much to be tedious and I really enjoyed reading about the heroine’ s life a a sommelier—something not many women are successful at given the male domination of that business.

It’s a book that will make you smile and feel happy for the characters, and a story that will make you wish for your own random encounter in an airport.

Gretchen is a sommelier on her way to Las Vegas for a wine conference when she sees her favourite baseball player Joshua Malvern at the airport.

She decides to buy him a coffee as he appears to be having a bad day and strikes up a conversation. To say thank you, Josh invites her to sit with him in first class on the way to Vegas, and they hit it off.

Will their love spark in Las Vegas? Will it last once they get home?

Overall, I found Out of His League to be a sweet sports rom-com with a cast of fun characters. I enjoyed how much sports info was packed in the book without it being overwhelming, and the banter between Gretchen and Josh was great.

The only downfall for me was that pace of the story moved a little fast, and because of this I found the plot a bit under-developed.

I really enjoyed this super cute book. I loved the way it was written and I was able to finish it one day because it's such a easy read. As I continued reading this book I got really connected with Gretchen and Josh. I just love their characters! I think everyone should read this book.

Very cute sports romance story. Not my favorite baseball rom com that I have read but the story
line was intriguing. I got lost in the middle of it being a little bored and the story line moved a
little slow for my liking. The best friend, Sharla, overstepped a couple of times in the story and I do not agree with how Gretchen handled the situation. I also do not like how Josh never addressed his problems with his
manager, Harvey, and just let him keep bashing him. Josh is 32 for gosh sakes. Stand up to the
man. But overall if you are looking for a baseball romance, this is a quick and easy read.

It's completely cheesy illogical fan fiction nonsense, but it's a good time, it's fun to read, the characters are likeable, and it has an appropriate amount of spice (enough for the intended romance addicted audience, but not so much that the plot suffers).

Instalove to extreme that only works when you remember it's the daydream about a celebrity crush. Gretchen runs into her all time celebrity crush in the airport and decides to approach him. They take a little, he's instantly obsessed with her. When you do the math on how much time these two characters have spent together, I'm pretty sure its under 96 hours total - and less than 48 hours before friends are asking questions about forever. There definitely should have been some passage of time montages.

I really enjoyed this read. Very cute and sweet romance. I liked the main character and love interest.

2.5 rounded to 3 ⭐️

I really wanted to love this one. Seeing as how it’s a sports romance and is supposed to be a spicier read, I had decent (not high) expectations.

Gretchen and Josh meet in an airport after she buys him a cup of coffee. Gretchen has had a celebrity crush on josh for a while as he’s her favourite baseball player. I was immediately turned off by HOW insta love this is.

I don’t mind books with instalove, but like another review mentioned, this is EXTREME insta love, as in theyre falling in love in chapter 7.

I suppose you could consider this a spicy read depending on what you consider a “spicy” read. I would give this a 1.5 🌶. The sex scenes were short and rushed.

This book was just not for me. The writing felt poor and the dialogue was a bit too cringy and repetitive for me.

* Thanks to NetGalley and Wattpad for an arc. This is my honest review. *

This story has one of the best meet-cutes. Makes you want to be a little bally and just talk to that hot guy to see at the airport. Loved the story and the characters!

This was a solid 3 star rom com. I loved how it kicked off with Gretchen approaching Josh in the airport and how she followed her instincts with him. The story moved quickly and the MCs had great chemistry. It was a bit predictable and unrealistic but I didn't mind because it was an easy, breezy, book.

That's why just three stars. It all felt very surface level and a little too unrealistic. And I wished there was a little more to the characters. The break-up half way felt a little extreme for the circumstances and could have been easily solved but both MCs got in their own way.

Overall, it was an easy read and enjoyable.

This was my first Wattpad book and for some reason the format was really off when I downloaded it to my kindle - not sure if that's the reason?

Thank you to netgalley and Wattpad for the eARC of this book,

THIS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER! I absolutely loved being engrossed in the plot. It was a beautiful and cheerful romance that had everything I wanted in a romance novel. I also didn't dislike any of the characters, which is unusual for me because I typically dislike at least one character. I think if you're searching for a decent romance story, you'll appreciate this one. It's tough not to love Gretchen and Josh.

what a fun fast paced book! I love anthing with romance and with baseball players. I was instantly hooked and i feel like i read 50% so quick! I really enjoyed this one so much! Really enjoyed this book! Such a fun read with great character development! Such a fun one and great to grab!

This book started out really fast and it felt like the story would be over in no time but like any good romcom story there is always twists and turns. I read this book in no time as I was hooked on it. The Story line is something I've not come across in romcoms and I have read a lot so it was a nice change to have my favourite genre told in a different way. I think the only downside is I would have liked a paragraph at the end from a few years down the line, with both the main characters stating they would like to start a family, I would like to read a little bit about that happening at the end. This book is definitely worth a read!!

A charming, fun story for anyone looking for a read-it-in-one-sitting novel with very likable characters and steamy scenes. Richardson sets up a meet cute by the newly bold Gretchen with Joshua Malvern—dreamy baseball player—and thrusts the reader right into the action. These flirty fun main characters fall in love with each other and will make you fall in love with them along the way. I rooted for them throughout the book! The supporting characters are wonderful and I hope there is a sequel featuring them specifically. Hope to see more fun reads from Caroline Richardson. 3.5 stars.

SPOILER FREE REVIEW
3/5 STARS

I had a lot of hope for this book, even as a Wattpad graduate the premise and synopsis sounded right up my street of a cute sports romace. While it defiantly delivered on the romance and more intense stuff, the overall storyline fell pretty flat for me. The world could have been expanded and embellished more and the general writing style was not my favourite.

An easy to read romance that doesn't quite make it passed all the bases. Our central focus of Gretchen and Josh carry the bulk of this story, with their attraction perhaps a little rushed and rapid but still cute and enjoyable. As the book went on I found myself more invested in their story and enjoyed the ending.

I mean get me a baseball boy and a job that involves a shit ton of wine tasting and I would be one happy camper.

As a frequent traveler, you have no IDEA how often I spot swoon-worthy men in airports and wish I had the nerve to do something about it (and yes I have shot my shot before, no it has never progressed outside the doors of the airport), so the fact that they got an AIRPORT meet cute is fantastic.

I love a good sports romance as well, and have been reading an awful lot of books lately with a male love interest named Josh so this book was right up my ally. It was ridiculously sweet and had some good spice to it as well. (I read some dark romances though so like my perception is probably pretty off so I'm totally just assuming that this is what most people would consider good spice. Like it is very much not a closed door romance.)

The only thing I didn't like about this (and this is totally just a personal preference) but it has some very strong instant-love vibes and it's just not my cup of tea. I like seeing characters struggle with understanding their emotions through a spicy romantic slow burn. Nothing wrong with instant-love, plenty of people love it but I just don't believe in it.

Anyways, this was fun and sweet and yeah if you like sports romance and instant love and baseball and wine then I think this book is right in your league (hehe)

I’m a huge fan of sports romances and Gretchen and Josh were adorable! I do have to say that throughout the book I did find some of the transitions a bit confusing. I don’t know maybe it was just me but at times I was going back a page to reread and make sure I didn’t skip anything. I also feel like this book could’ve been shorted a bit because there was no drama really ever continually occurring so it just felt like cute scene after cute scene was happening without any ups and downs. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I personally enjoy for this to be points of tension, etc. when I’m reading a romance book. I do just want to say that I really did love Josh he was always aware of when he would make mistakes and would own up to them which is so refreshing to see in a romance book. Overall this was a super quick read and I really enjoyed it and would most definitely recommend it!

I LOVED this book. I read it without 24 hours and could not put it down. The book caught my attention from the first page. If you like a steamy romance story this book is for you.

This was my first fanfic/wattpad book style so maybe I missed the picture, but I felt like it focused too much on Josh and baseball. I would have loved more wine and Gretchen content. But I also really love baseball so who amI really to complain about it?

I really liked the character dynamic, it was filled with lots of funny, steamy, light hearted interactions and a nice HEA.

I would definitely read a book two that focused on the Sharla and his lordship pretty please make this happen Caroline Richardson

Thank you Netgalley and Wattpad Books for the egalley in exchange for my honest review.

This book is fantasy inducing hot! AND the plot line was enjoyable. These two things are not always found in the same book, so it was quite enjoyable! The hero of the story is the all-American dream: professional baseball player, gorgeous, thoughtful, focused, and not a playboy. The heroine is living this girls dream: tastes wine for a living (also known as a sommelier), and travels to amazing locales to do it. And when they meet it’s fire! Sprinkle in some personal crisis and a quirky best friend, and I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommended!

One of the cutest sports romances I’ve read! I was definitely give this book a chance! It feels like it starts off really fast and I usually like more of a slow burn, but this is definitely still worth it !

I always get a little scared reading Wattpad books but this one did not disappoint! I'm a total sucker for a sports romance and then with the meet-cute at the airport. Ugh. I feel like every, single, person has the fantasy of meeting the love of their life at the airport, whether in passing or on the same flight. You can't tell me that when you travel, especially alone, that you don't scope out the other single travelers. Anyways, Josh and Gretchen have a cute story. It's a simple as that.

I am thankful to NetGalley for providing me an ARC to read! If you are looking for a cute, light hearted romance look no further. This was a very fast read and I would definitely read other things by this author.

This book came at the perfect time for my reading mood. I absolutely loved it! If you don't like spice in books, skip this book. It was definitely insta-love, but it worked. I loved all the coffee lines in the book. The scenario that split the couple was a little weak, BUT I loved that the roles were flipped in which the ladies were the ones with a "bucket list" of men to be with and the male MC was not about said list. I also really enjoyed the different friendships and family avenues this book gave. Oh, have I mentioned...GREAT spice!?!

Romance

Better than Most!

Gretchen Harper has always followed baseball. It was a way to connect with her dad. When she walks to her gate at the airport and sees her favorite player in what seems to be a dejected mood, she spontaneously buys him his coffee. Surprised by the sweet gesture Josh Malvern chats with Gretchen while they wait for their flight to be called. Josh enjoys her company so much that he upgrades her plane ticket and they continue their lively discussion. By the time they reach Vegas Josh and Gretchen both know that they want to spend some time together and that they seem to have chemistry in spades.

What they both think will be one night only, turns into a weekend with both of them wanting more. Unsure of how to make it work and both feeling insecure in the relationship they allow a misunderstanding to come between them. Can't have a love story without a bit of angst, right?

The sex scenes are steamy and this relationship while sparked with chemistry has Gretchen and Josh taking on some major hurdles. Was it perfect? No. I still really enjoyed this romance and look forward to more from this writer.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for my ARC of this novel.

Out of His League by Caroline Richardson

Genre: Rom-Com
Rating: 3 stars

This book was a sweet & spicy quick read. It didn't WOW me by any means, but it was a easy read to get me out of a slump.

Things I liked:
-Dual POV
-Sports Romance
-Writing Style + Easy to read
-Spice!

I didn't love how Gretchen and Josh initially met. It was a bit creepy, but other than that the book was fine. No fireworks here, but I enjoyed it alright!

QOTD: Have you been to Las Vegas?
AOTD: I have been to Las Vegas more times than I could count. Even got married there in May.

Book Description (from Amazon): Sometimes you've got to leave your heart on the field

Gretchen Harper has always been practical. Dependable, solid, predictable. She’s never taken risks, and she’s especially never bought coffee for gorgeous professional athletes in airports. That is, until she meets her favorite baseball player on the worst day of his career.

Being sent to the minor league is just the first of Joshua Malvern’s many worries―he’s got an injury that won’t heal and his entire career and future are on the line.

📚Review: I went into this book with a clear mind, knew nothing about it. I thought it was a quirky read, super cute. I felt the character’s connection with each other. This book is a good reminder to us all to get out of our comfort zone from time to time, you never know what’s on the other side of it. I think Out of his League checks off all the top things we look for in a romance novel.

I love a good sports romance!

I saw the cover of this book and fell head over heels!! I'm a sucker for a cute cover and that title just hooked me! As a sports romance lover, I was very intrigued and excited for what was in store! And holy steam!! I love steam as much as the next person and this book had that in abundance! If you're a steam lover that's a fan of falling fast and hard romances then you'll enjoy this one!

Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad books for the earc in return for an honest review.

This was definitely a super cute enjoyable quick read, perfect for holiday reading.

This was another okay read for me.

The premise was great and the synopsis drew me in but the book fell a little flat from my expectations.

Josh and Gretchen meet in an airport when Josh is feeling his lowest. Gretchen is a fan of baseball and Josh happens to be her favorite baseball player. Gretchen sees josh might be having a bad day and decides to buy him a cup of coffee. The two hit it off and decide to spend some time together.

There is a minimal amount of chemistry between these two individuals.

Some of the subplot was unimportant and it made it feel like the book was dragging on in some parts.

"Out of His League" by Caroline Richardson
Release Date: 4.5.2022

Gretchen Harper is predictable and dependable. She keeps to her routines and doesn't take risks. However, she sees her favorite baseball player at the airport, and Gretchen buys him a coffee and asks for his autograph.

Joshua Malvern is having a bad day while at the airport. His injury isn't healing as quickly as it should. He's afraid of being sent to the minors will do to his career. When a gorgeous lady offers to buy him coffee, it lifts him out of his pity party. Joshua invites Gretchen to sit with him in first class. Later, they get more personal while exploring Vegas.

What a cute, light-hearted romance. I love baseball, so I definitely thought this would be the perfect read. Gretchen and Joshua's love as quick; their chemistry is fantastic. I do wish there was a bit more buildup surrounding their relationship, but it wouldn't fit with them meeting on a whim.

This is the kind of whirlwind romance you can’t help but enjoy. It’s a little far fetched but you know you love it all the same.

CONTAINS SPOILERS!

I found the pacing to be a little off with this romance. While I loved the juicy scenes, I felt the initial meeting of the two characters was hard to believe, and moved SO FAST! I also didn't like the scene with Sharla exposing Gretchen's list, and Josh falling for thinking she was some crazy girl. This, for me, should have been a deal breaker for Gretchen. I would've loved to see her say, you know what, I'm done!

Out Of His League is a baseball romance involving a chance encounter with a star player that leads to more than either of them could have imagined. When Gretchen takes a risk and offers a coffee to one of her favorite players who happens to be on her flight to Vegan, she's immediately drawn in by his wry personality and very apparent need for a distraction.

After chatting the whole flight, neither is ready to just let this go and they start down a path where they quickly fall hard for each other.

This wasn't quite up to par with the romance books I usually read - it was heavy on the steam but put any emotional connection to the characters to the side. Without that piece, I couldn't get into their relationship and found myself skimming through large parts of the book.

First off, thank you NetGalley for this eARC!!

This was a super cute read!!!! I really enjoyed the relationship between Gretchen and Josh. The spice????? Don’t let this cover fool you, the spice had me blushing not gonna lie.

I feel like it was a very fast timeline. Very instalove. I didn’t mind it but if you hate instalove you might not like this so just keep that in mind.

It definitely kept me intrigued enough to finish the book and if there was a second book based off Sharla and Kevin I wouldn’t mind (I love forbidden love)

Overall this was a cute book. 4.25 stars!

If you love a good sports romance, and don't mind an insta-love type plot then this is the romance for you. Gretchen is a sports fan, and is particularly a fan of Josh's. Josh is having a crap day, as he has just been sent down to the minors. When Gretchen decides he looks like he needs a cup of coffee rather than a beg for an autograph, the sparks fly pretty much instantly.

This book has a quick turn around for the spice factor, if that's what you're looking for, but it still has a good plot with charm and memorable side characters. Don't let the cutesy cover fool you, this book is high on the smut factor (and I definitely don't mind that). I'm not sure what the opposite of a slow burn is - but this book is it. :)

I thought it was a fun and quick read, with more plot than usual for books with this many sex scenes. I'm always down for a good sports romance, and this was a good one. I'd definitely read more from Caroline Richardson!

Thanks to Wattpad books and to NetGalley for providing me an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I think i read this book in one sitting both because it felt shorter than others I've read recently and because it was so easy and fun. From the meet cute to the HEA the story moved quickly and was full of surprises and fun. I enjoyed seeing Harper and Josh take baby steps out of their comfort zone through out the book so that she could realize that there might be more to life than just work. They meet at a pretty low moment for Josh but it turns into one of those perfect moments where their entire lives change for the better and I enjoyed reading it thoroughly.

One small act of kindness can have huge ripples! When Gretchen sees one of her favorite baseball players having a bad day, her offer of a cup of coffee changes their lives forever. Josh's career and path forward are in flux, but somehow a stranger's compassion makes it better and stirs things in him he hasn't felt in years. Life isn't always so simple, though, and the combined challenges of fame, uncertainty, and two demanding jobs may prove impossible to overcome, no matter how much chemistry these two might share.

It was interesting to get a peek into the worlds of both baseball and wine distribution. Both Josh and Gretchen are nice, decent people, and it's easy to root for their happiness (though I might not have been as forgiving as Gretchen after one of their early conflicts!). There is definite steam between the two of them and watching them find their way is an enjoyable ride. Pick this up for a spicy, fun romp!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

While sitting at the airport, Gretchen sees her favorite baseball player coming towards where she’s sitting. He looks upset sitting there, so she decides to go out of her comfort zone and bring him a coffee.

Usually I’m not a huge fan of insta-love but their instant chemistry was AMAZING. These two had an instant connection that I absolutely loved. The only thing I didn’t love about this book was the epilogue. Personally I enjoy when an epilogue is years ahead and this one was only a few months but other than that I really enjoyed this book!

Thank you NetGalley and WattPad Books for this advanced readers copy!

First of all…thank you so much NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for a review! I am new to reviewing books and I was so excited to be approved for this one! That feeling hasn’t changed now that I have read it!

This was so cute! This isn’t popular opinion by the looks of it but I really loved this one! Out of His League had it all for me. I loved that the male role was a baseball player…because who doesn’t love baseball? Come on people!! Also he plays for the Toronto Sixers and I’m from Toronto so I was all for a book that gives a little shout out to my hometown!

Josh Malvern is a left fielder who loves the game but doesn’t really enjoy being in the public eye. He is careful to avoid the tabloids and doesn’t draw attention to himself. Meeting Gretchen in an airport and deciding to take her home for a weekend of steamy sex is completely unlike him, but he’s been sent down to play in Vegas and you know what they say about what happens in Vegas. As the weekend comes to a close both of them realize that they don’t want this crazy adventure to end. It started with a much needed coffee, was fuelled by baseball and wine but it’s too good to end; so how will Gretchen and Josh manage living their separate lives while following their hearts about how they feel for one another?

I loved that Josh and Gretchen were both very independent people who were truly enjoying their lives. Fate brought them together but it’s not enough to keep them together. Real love takes work and I loved that this couple had some real struggles with finding a balance between who they were as individuals and who they were becoming as a couple. Also I really enjoyed all of the little iconic Canadian tidbits, especially the true Toronto ones that were thrown into this story to make it feel genuine. This was so much fun for me to read, it was fast, it was sweet and wow does Caroline Richardson know how to write a sex scene (or two…or more) in her novel.

One thing I didn’t like was that Sharla (Gretchen’s friend) had some issues of her own that I didn’t feel really got resolved. My hope is that there will be a sequel that follows Sharla and Kyle and that we find out more about Coach and Felicia. I just felt that there were loose ends…but it also made me feel that it left room for this to become a series rather than a one off. Fingers crossed! I don’t like unfinished business in my novels so if it’s not going to be a series I will be pretty disappointed in the ending for some of my favourite characters.

When Gretchen finds herself sitting next to her favorite pro baseball player at the airport, her first impulse is to ask for his autograph. But she can tell from his posture that he's feeling down, so she buys him a coffee instead to cheer him up. They strike up a conversation, which leads to attraction, which leads to…more. But her business is located in Toronto, and he's in the US. If he wants to stay in the major leagues, he has to go where his career takes him. Can they find a future together?

This is a cute, well-written, emotional story with likeable characters and enough conflict to keep the pages turning. It's super steamy, and the intimate scenes are well done.

The cover looks like a rom com, while this is solidly steamy contemporary romance. The cover should be a shirtless guy wearing a baseball glove or something. This cover appeals to the wrong audience.

The pacing is off—the breakup should happen at about the 75% mark. Instead, it happens at 50%. As a result, the climax comes too soon, and the last 25% or so of the book is denouement. The last half of the book is engaging, though, and includes some poignant moments.

Overall, this is an enjoyable story for readers of steamy contemporary romance.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

⚠️SPOILER ALERT⚠️

I wasn’t really sure what I was expecting going into this book… and I’m still not fully sure what to think about it. I enjoyed it enough that I finished it quickly and I spent hours at a time reading it. But, I don’t think I would read it over and over again. I might read it a couple times, but not to an extent that I would other books.

My main problem with this book is the instant infatuation the two main characters, Joshua and Gretchen, have with each other. I’ve never been much of a fan of insta-love and this wasn’t very far off from it. From the very beginning when Gretchen first buys a coffee for Josh- they have this instant connection that, at first, I found interesting. But, within the first couple of chapters it very quickly becomes what I can only really describe as the closest thing to insta-love without actually being insta-love.

I am not a huge fan of baseball, neither am I a fan of wine… but the moments when Josh was focused on the game and his teams, and the moments when Gretchen was focused on wine and her business- those were my favorite parts. Throughout the book, there are a lot of times (most of the time really) when all Josh and Gretchen are thinking of, is each other. It got pretty frustrating when all they were thinking about was having sex. But, when Josh got into his game, when he was coaching players and when he was actually playing… he was focused on that and you could tell just how much he loved it. And when Gretchen got into the role of sommelier and she was working to make perfect pairings for her clients- you could feel her love for her job. I admired that about them. Their love for their jobs and their dedication was something that I inspire to be like one day.

This book was a genuinely good book, and I enjoyed reading it. But, I can only give it 3.5/5 stars because of the insta-love like relationship they had. It didn’t feel like there was much growth between them- it felt like they jumped into the deep end before really knowing how to properly swim.

This was SO FUNNY! I loved the chemistry between the main characters and the fact that neither of them was perfect. I loved it.

I am going to be completely honest.
I couldn’t care less about real life sports.
But give me a good sports romance and I am INVESTED.

Gretchen Harper spots her favorite baseball player, Joshua Malvern, at the airport looking like he’s had a less than stellar day and decides to be bold. She buys him a cup of coffee and, will later confirm, it was the best cup of coffee she ever purchased.
This was a super enjoyable, fast paced romance read and you will likely want to binge it in a day so DON’T start it at 10 pm. Gretchen and Josh were so cute and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of their story. Fair warning, this book does include a pretty heavy case of insta-love but it was exactly what I wanted to read so it did not bother me one bit. :)

Out of His League will be out April 5th and if it's not already on your tbr, it should be!

A meet cute romance!

Baseball player Joshua Malvern was at the airport because he was being sent down to the minor league Las Vegas team to rehab his injuries because he wasn’t ready to retire yet when he run into Gretchen Harper when she bought him a coffee. Gretchen Harper was on the way to Las Vegas for a wine competition when she ran into her favorite player Joshua Malvern who looked like he needed something nice.

Out of His League is a good meet cute romance where Gretchen and Josh meet at the airport and he upgrades her to sit next to him on the plane and they spend the weekend together in Las Vegas. But things don’t go smoothly because that make it a really boring romance.

This book was exactly what I wanted out of a Friday night read! A very quick read (I finished it in one evening), that immediately drew you in with the chemistry between Gretchen, a sommelier who normally is a very practical girl, and Josh, a professional baseball player who has come to a tough spot in his career. When they happen to be on the same flight to Vegas, sparks fly and both of their worlds are suddenly rocked by the other. Overall, I enjoyed the way the story played out between Gretchen and Josh. There were some parts that I wish would have been more fleshed out (such as Travis’s plot line, and why Josh was so untrusting), but I did not go into this read expecting a deep plot so I was not bothered by it. There are some definite spicy scenes, so if you prefer closed door romances this book may not be for you. I hope to see a sequel to this book starring Gretchen’s BFF Sharla. If you’re looking for a fun weekend or beach read this is a great choice!

This was a good, quick book for anyone who just needs a dose of romance! Gretchen and Josh had really good chemistry and their love story was super believable! I also liked how the side characters added to the plot, though I felt like there was something missing when it came to the Harvey storyline. Also, I want a second book about Sharla!
Overall, it was a fun, quick read!

No, seriously. This book is everything a little rom-com book should be. The story was so cute and sweet. I typically do not like books that feature anything sports related, but this one was done so perfectly. The chemistry between the two main characters was great and it had such a stellar list of supporting characters. I absolutely adored it from beginning to end.

I really enjoyed Out of His League. The book follows Gretchen who is away at a wine competition, when she meets Joshua her favourite baseball player. The first encounter was very must an insta-love which is stated to be very out of character of them book. Although it seemed quite unbelievable at the time, it still gave me all the love vibes I look for in a book like this. Obviously, I knew there would be some sort of misunderstanding that would drive them apart, as is standard in these stories, but I do wish it was a bit more of a believable of a scenario, however it wasn’t enough of a bother to change my feeling on this book. It was a quick, fun, cute book that had me not wanting to put it down.

"Don't wait. If it feels right, then do it, figure out the future later. Go watch the sunrise."

Out of His League is a story of two people throwing caution to the wind for one day. Allowing themselves to put their guards down & get swept up at the moment. But what was supposed to be one night turns into something neither Josh nor Gretchen were expecting.

Gretchen Harper is a Sommelier who isn't much of a risk-taker. She prefers the predictable, dependable things in life. Well, that is till she finds herself buying a cup of coffee for her favorite MLB player Joshua Marvin. Joshua keeps his eyes on the ball, never letting his guard down, and definitely never letting a fan get close... that's it her.

If you are looking for a flirty, give you all the feels, kind of sports romance, then look no further. Grab your favorite wine and cozy up with Out of His League. You will swoon over Josh with his mischievous eyes & charming smile. Gretchen will warm your heart with her compassion and sweet demeanor. You will find yourself rooting for our OTP as a simple cup of coffee turns into the best decision Gretchen has ever made"

I absolutely adored this book. The chemistry between Josh and Gretchen is instant. Although I normally enjoy slow-burn, sometimes insta love hits just right. The journey through their relationship and figuring out what it is they have felt real and honest. Their attraction may have been instant but there was a journey to actually trusting and being with one another. I felt like Richardson did a great job with the secondary characters as well. I was invested in each of their parts of the story. I especially hope we get to read about Sharla & Kevin one day!!!

If you enjoy sports romances & cute reads this is a must!

Thank you NetGalley, Wattpad Books and author for an ARC of this book.
This review may contain SPOILERS.
My first thought as I started was that it was too much of an instant love thing which isn't necessarily bad but not really for me . it starts when Gretchen meets her favorite baseball player Josh in the airport
HOWEVER,
34% into the book, i started liking it with the problem arising between them and i wanted to see how the problem is dealt with.
Again, there was so much potential to how they overcome the issue but without addressing the problem they jump straight into smut.
there was no palpable tension between Josh and Gretchen even though they had a conflict between them. the conflict was also a bit mediocre which had potential too.
the extra stars i may give is for Sharla because i REALLY liked her and i would LOVE to see her and Kevin's book.
i would love to see more of this author's work. <3

A fun insta love sports romance by a debut Canadian author. I really enjoyed this insta love, dual perspective love story between an MLB player sent down to the minors and the sommelier he meets at the airport on the way to Vegas. The two have a hot one night stand and then have to figure out if they can make a relationship work despite their very different lives. Enjoyable and steamy and definitely recommended! Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my advance review copy!

I usually don't care much for the love at first sight with a famous person trope .. but this book was really cute! You can feel the chemistry between Gretchen and Josh and the obstacles they had to face were pretty realistic and not far fetched. I finished this book in one sitting! Easy and fun read.

I love a good rom-com book and definitely enjoyed the characters in this book. Gretchen seems to live by the rules, but throws those out when she is at the Toronto airport on her way to Las Vegas and sees her favorite baseball player Josh, "Mr. Sunshine". One cup of coffee changes Gretchen's whole life in a span of 48 hours.

While some of it seems not likely to happen in real life and you have moments of saying no way would that ever happen. However, you never know it may happen. I was definitely rooting for Gretchen and Josh the whole way through the book!

I am huge into baseball, so this was a fun plot to dive into. It is an easy, breezy read and I love the instant connection between the MC's. It can be hit or miss on instant connections. Sometimes they just feel forced, but this one was natural and made sense!

Not a huge fan of the language or the explicit content. It was easy to skim over, but closed door romance would have done well here! Five stars for plot and characters, 2 stars for explicit content. 4 overall!

A chance meeting at the airport between Gretchen a sommelier and Josh a MLB player. No matter that he happened to be her favorite player and he just got some bad news. She bought him cup of coffee and just gave him some conversation not acting like a fan and they were on the same flight and sat together and just kept finding reasons to see each other again.

This was steamy and quick chemistry and I always love a baseball romance. I enjoyed going to Vegas and going out dancing and eating and going to ball games.

This book got such mixed reviews and I read a bunch of them and I am not sure I agree with any of them or maybe I'm not picky about certain things.
