Description

A moving, uplifting novel about motherhood, starting over, and an unexpected summer romance…

Kit Blakemore is ready to live again. After her husband died while serving in the military, she was in a haze of grief. Now she wants to reclaim her former self—finish her degree and find a better career to provide for their sweet little boy, Oliver. To do that, she’ll need to sell her late husband’s dilapidated Victorian in Seashell Harbor. But first, Kit intends to give Ollie the kind of unforgettable seaside summer she had growing up, making lifelong memories and friendships.

Of course, nothing goes exactly as she planned. Ollie is struggling with his confidence, and frankly, so is Kit. But everything changes when her husband’s best friend, Alex de la Cruz, returns to town, offering to help her renovate. She doesn’t expect Alex to temporarily move in…or for him to bond with Ollie…or for her numb heart to begin thawing. Slowly he’s helping Kit and Ollie heal, and it scares her to death.

Kit swore she wouldn’t leave herself open to the pain of loss again. But if she’s going to teach her son to be brave and move forward, Kit must first face her own fears.

Miranda Liasson you have written yet another very special story. I loved Kit and Alex’s story. It’s so heartwarming how they come together. They both learned how to move on after a devastating loss. Thank you for allowing me to read and review this moving story. I highly recommend this beautiful story. Although it will make you cry….It will also make you happy. So don’t miss this great read.

I love this story. What Kit had to do through was horrible, but unfortunately so many folks have had to go through the same situations. What Alex had to overcome was just as traumatic, and unfortunately again very much life like. I was right there with them. I loved reading about the two of them and how they dealt with their ups and downs. Who wouldn’t love Ollie? I just want to hang out with him and maybe read a book or five. These friends and their stories are wonderful. I didn’t want to stop reading about them. I want to go hang out with them some more. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.

Love by proxy; heartache; passion; like a phoenix; get your tissues!
Oh. My. Word! I devoured this book once I began reading it. This story of love and loss will break your heart but wait for it…love conquers all!
Kit Blakemore has decided that for herself and her 5yo son Ollie she needs to start living again. The tragic death of her husband Carson has monopolized her life for two long years. The “ball and chain” aka the McKinnon House that Carson inherited is dilapidated and is 35yo Kit’s ticket to a future but trying to figure out how to go about fixing it up is beyond her. Ironically her future in that house may become true.
One day she goes to check out the house and finds Carson’s BFF, 35yo Alex de la Cruz working on HER house! What?! Alex hates her even though he obviously loved Carson. After some soul searching, Kit and Carson begrudgingly come to an understanding about the house. For Carson Alex will renovate it to the point where it can be sold and he’ll move on. What happens when Alex becomes more important to Ollie or Kit than she expected? Can she let him in? The revelations will astound you. The pain is palpable but the chemistry between Alex and Kit is magnetic. Ollie is adorable. You will find that Carson is a de facto cast member of this beautiful story. Lovely prose, witty humor, so good!
If you want your romance to have acceptable angst, witty humor, poignant moments (lots of those) and friends that everyone would love to have, read this book. This is a 10-Star story. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through NetGalley and highly recommend it.
