Fae's Ascent

I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for this sequel. Ok, it hasn’t been that long but I can’t help it. I absolutely love these characters and the world in which they reside!

In the sequel to her debut novel, Clover, Author Nicole Kilpatrick rewards her readers once again with Fae’s Ascent, in which our main character the plucky Clover struggles to free and then master her powers as she learns to balance and accept both aspects of herself: the human and the uh, not so human side. The battle continues between the Seelie and Unseelie armies and with time running out she has to make a choice With the Seelie and Unseelie armies on the verge of war, the clock is ticking, and Clover has a very difficult choice to make.

I just love the clean, YA vibe of these books and don’t get me started on the Irish lore. I have long been waiting for a contemporary book like this that celebrates Irish history, legend and lore and has so much fun with it!

Clover is still adjusting to her new life and discovery. A death in the faire Court. Clover and Finn Ryan are having to go through alot together.
Unseelies of course he now king. It's a mystical magical adventure. The story grips you in and you cheer the guys along the way.

I really enjoyed Clover so I was thrilled to get sent a copy of the sequel.

Being the holiday season, it unfortunately took me awhile to find the time to sit down and read this, but I'm so glad I finally got the chance; because I really enjoyed it.

I just adore these characters and this world and the lore is so compelling to me. It's really the type of book you can get lost in since it's such a captivating read that it's hard to put down.

Overall, it was a great follow-up that exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it.

Fae's Ascent By Nicole Kilpatrick is a fantastic face story. Book 2 in the series.
This story is about Clover. She escaped Allstar . The author wrote a very detailed strong discription story . Clover is a human but she is stuck in a war between the unseelie ( dark forces ) and the seelie . Grab it and see how she fairs out in the war . I highly recommend this story

Fae’s Ascent closes out the Clover duoligy with the same fun, fast paced story filled with memorable and lovable characters as the first book.

We pick up shortly after the events of the first book. Alistair is still scheming for power and determined to take it whole Clover is trying to understand and harness her Fae heritage and the new powers it affords her.

With a fast pace that keeps you reading well beyond a reasonable hour the plot is fun and action packed. I loved the way the story unfolded and where it went. While a bit predictable the ending was satisfying, even with a few choice decisions made by the author that I would have liked to see done slightly differently.

While the first book mostly centered on Clover and Finn, this one really brought many of the supporting characters from the first book into the spotlight. Garrett and Andie in particular became favorites. Some of the choices made by Clover throughout the book did irritate me making her less likable than she was in the first book. In particular how she handles conflict with Finn. One character in particular gets redeemed at the end that absolutely did not deserve a redemption. The handling of that particular characters multiple betrayals was one of the biggest disappointments with the ending to me.

Overall I love the world inspired by Irish folklore built in the Duoligy and the characters that filled it. Both books are fun, and quick reads.

Due to an act of betrayal and the fact that Alistair still wants Clover, the Unseelie & Seelie Courts are dangerously close to an all-out war. An elaborate plan and an age-old secret may rock the very foundation of this world. What part will Clover play in 'saving the world' and will she be up to the task?

Can writing be called fresh-faced cause that is how I feel about Kilpatrick's? The narrative grabs your attention and is inviting, and especially with Clover's POV makes you feel you're going along for the ride. The multiple POVs give you a well-rounded aspect of the story. The musings are well presented, different and distinct for each character. Some of the switches between them might be a little abrupt, then the storytelling finds its groove. These frequent switches actually make you feel like you're in a movie.

The mythology and magic system are well thought out and explained nicely. I like how Clover's powers evolve and are portrayed, how all the magic is portrayed. The action scenes are properly exhilarating.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Alistair is a great villain, calculating every move and treacherous.

Something that bothered me was that some characters were given more time in the forefront than needed, their POVs often quite wordy while in my opinion more interesting characters didn't get the exposure they deserved. Also these POVs sometimes interfered with the otherwise great flow of the story.

Getting back to the good which there is a lot of like the so many smile and chuckle-worthy moments. Awesome, realistic and powerful in the feelings department dialogue. I adore the love and respect, even cuteness of many of the relationships, especially Momma Ruths's with Clover.

All the numerous threads lead to an exciting final battle and unexpected conflicts that have you cheering. A finale that is both touching and thrilling and will have you smiling ear to ear.

This is the second installment in the series following Clover. She's a half fae, half human in the fae realm who meets her Mer family and gets stuck in the fae realm when the wanna be Unseelie King takes over and closes the portal between realms.

This was the second in the series, but could very easily be read as a stand alone. There are some relationships that maybe wouldn't have as much depth but you probably would understand the story well enough.
This was very much a YA. There was kissing and blushing and that was about it for romance. Clover is 18 and, yeah, very much 18. The whole story wraps up without a lot of dramatics. The main characters seem to be separated and the real hero of the story only recounts his telling after the fact and how he <spoiler> got the Berserker to follow him was very anticlimactic. </spoiler>

I'm rounding up to 4 stars, but probably more like 3.5. It was ok.
