'A fiendishly twisty page turner with a story about who we are and what matters. Jane Corry's skill as a storyteller and natural empathy for her characters make this an unputdownable read. One of her best' Emma Curtis

Oh my goodness, I just love Jane Corry's novels! She is an excellent writer and always has the best storylines. Absolutely amazing and this one was a fabulous suspense novel. I really enjoyed the characters and had a great time reading this book.
WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK! FANTASTIC!. Another brilliant, addictive read by the amazing Jane Corry. A cast of fabulous characters and the tension ramps up the more you read. I was sucked into the life of Emily and Francoise who are two completely different women, but both have their secrets and they don't trust each other at all. Francoise cares for Harold Gentle, Emily's elderly father and when Emily arrives at her childhood home the secrets, lies and twists start happening and the book is completely impossible to put down. It's additive, skilfully plotted and heartbreaking at the same time. This will definitely be a bestseller and I will recommend it to everyone I no. Huge Congratulations to Jane for another compulsive, unforgettable read.
Really this author can do no wrong. Loved this book. No surprise really as the author really has a knack to write. I think I found it believable and kept me enthralled right to the end
Such an intriguing read, which ended up being completely addictive with many twists and turns. I loved it! Emily returns home to her father's after a stressful situation in her job as a midwife.. She finds a beautiful french woman Francoise looking after her ailing father...all is not quite what it seems and hereon in unravels quite a tale..who is telling the truth and what is the truth? I loved the fact that interwoven is the story of Harolds life...
A great read. Highly recommend. Kept me hooked.
What a wonderful story about life, love and loss!
I was hooked from the start and loved being able to explore the different characters and their lives/perspectives.
Wow! I was hooked right from the start, as Emily, a busy midwife, was coping with her shift and her love life until it all started to unravel. As she sought solace with her father, she met Francoise, his new carer, a woman with a hidden agenda.
I really enjoyed the way the story flicks between WW2, Emily and Fancoise, and the story of each character is gradually revealed. Highly relatable, likeable characters, who I really started to care about. Well done Jane Corry, 5 stars from me!
Emily is a midwife in London, overworked and under-resourced. Her widowed and aging father lives alone in a beautiful house in Cornwall where she grew up, but she doesn't have much time to keep an eye on him, despite his frailty and health problems. Unknown to her, he places an ad in the press for a 'companion and carer'.
Emily arrives home after a 4 month absence to find an attractive, young, French woman answering the door and inviting her in! The plot is set. Suspicion, lies ,jealousy and deception take over. There are things both women wish to remain hidden. But there is so much more to be revealed, below the surface. Tense and suspenseful, I read this in almost one sitting over a weekend. Superb.
