The Allure of Power is the second book in The Travellers series and boy is it a good one. This one starts off where we left off with Henry going to Chrysalis school, Aiden headed to the Morktalis Academy, Mel off to the School of the White Lady, Hugh traveling about, and Julia missing. The schools were really cool to read about and I loved how they are set up, even if Morktalis seems violent and White Lady extreme. I am not sure how they will mesh with Chrysalis since it seems a bit of a good Vs. evil situation, but that will be fun to see play out. The story really belongs to Julia this time around. She ends up in a place that at first she thinks is alright, but soon it's obvious things are not what they seem. I never really cared for Julia in the first book, she was really a tough character to like, so the story kind of dragged a bit until my feelings about her changed (she definitely becomes more likable as the book goes on). Thankfully, Hugh was around to make things more interesting until then. We also learn a lot more about the Bronze General in this book and get a quick glimpse at the Yellow General. He seems like a real piece of work. I was pleasantly surprised at the White General but it makes sense. There is so much more I want to say about this story, but I don't want to ruin it for you. The story is a fantastic adventure with a wonderful atmosphere and really great characters. I look forward to the next book.
An enjoyable sequel from a very impressive and talented Aussie author.
Julia's character development was the ultimate highlight, followed by the rest of the characters as they evolve and grow. The world continues to expand and grow, written in rich and layered descriptions from a very brilliant mind.
The jump between different dimensions and differing characters was a bit disorientating and didn't flow as smoothly. Whilst the start was also a little slower to begin with, the plot rapidly picks up, leading all the way to another enticing cliffhanger. The cover for this sequel is infinitely better than the first, making it that more eye-catching.
The author has such an abundance of imagination and creation that E. P. Bali is definitely an author to look out for! If you like magical schools, good vs. evil, and some good ol' reminiscing (here's to the 90s), then this series is the one for you.

I received this Arc from Netgalley. Thank you for the chance to read this book early. My review is honest and 100% my own thoughts about the book.
This is the second book of the Travelers. Although I did not read the first book. It read really well on its own.
I enjoyed the “powers” that the characters received and found out the fact that certain people who follows certain “generals” are willing to use the MCs “powers” to gain standing within the world they traveled to. This book kind of reminds me of the multiverse and traveling to another world from that of earth, a “fantasy” world.
I really enjoyed the adventures that the 5 friends went on and the lessons they learn abou themselves and their friends.
I didn’t realize this was a sequel when I requested it on NetGalley, but even without reading the first book, it worked really well on its own.
I enjoyed the unique powers the characters received. Also the story gave me major multiverse vibes, with characters jumping between Earth and a fantasy world.
Overall, it was an interesting read!
